I friggin love indian food. Wandered around Old town Pasadena and started to feel hungry so we stepped into All India Cafe to try them out. The vibe was authentic and fun - and the servers were friendly! We ordered the dahi potato puri (4/5) it's a crisp shell with cold potato, chutney and yogurt. Very sweet appetizer and I wished it was hot, but it was still delicious. We also ordered the butter chicken 10/10 which was so so good and a garlic naan. The garlic naan 4/10 was burnt on the bottom which was very unpleasant and super disappointing. And lastly we got a Frankie with chicken 10/10 - super yummy wrap with a yogurt sauce on the side. I've been here twice and both times I've had delicious food and excellent service. All India Cafe is not fine dining. Very nice and accommodating staff welcome you into a homey family restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating.They have two relatively clean restrooms. I enjoyed the chicken Frankie, chicken biriyani and chicken Marsala lunch specials. Marsala fries are a yummy appetizer to share with the table. Delicious fresh naan and fluffy rice comes with some meals. If you like experimenting with Indian flavors, the street food menu offerings are fun trips down the spice road! read more

I have been coming to this restaurant since 1999, but had a six year pause (Pasadena is a bit of a hike from where I live). I just took my family to All India this weekend and it was every bit as good (maybe even better) than I remembered. We ordered from the lunch menu (4 - chicken tikka kabob, chicken tikka masala, chicken tandoori, vegetarian). Everything was incredibly good. Not only that but it was a lot of food at a very reasonable price, and the owner plus staff were friendly and gracious hosts. It's now our go-to spot any time we get near Pasadena. read more

Very difficult to find good Indian food in LA. They have maintained very good test and flavors for last 10+ years. Samosa, paneer dishes, and tandoori shrimp are really good. Their palak paneer is one of the best ones. Dessert menu also good. read more

This place is awesome! My go to for Indian food once upon a blue moon. We love ordering the meal for 2, which includes a full course meal minus drinks. I keep ordering here because the reviews are great thinking that I'm just not getting the right dish or ordering on the main chefs off day but so far it's been disappointing every time. I've gotten way over salted dry aloo gobi, bland saag paneer, and thick chewy dosa. The masala filling had been dry, the paneer was good, the sambar is so bland it's like watered down daal and now today the bhel puri I ordered is missing half the ingredients. No puffed rice, no crispy noodles or wafer just mini panpuris filled with chutney, a piece of onion and a piece of potato, 1 chickpea and some cilantro scattered about. The only thing that has continually been good here is the dessert and I think it's worth coming here specifically for that. But I'm on my 4th try now between this location and the other one and at this point im gonna take it for what it is and not going to try again. read more

I ordered delivery via Postmates recently, and the food is solid. I've also eaten here in person once before. I had the chicken tikka masala and lamb vindaloo. The dishes were flavorful. However, they were both on the salty side although they worked when eating them with rice. It would have been nice to have rice included with the meal. Overall, it still falls short of the best Indian food that I've had in Southern California (which has been multiple places in Artesia), but this restaurant will do in a pinch when I'm craving Indian food and want to stay local. read more

Another one of the few decent Indian restaurants in Pasadena. Came here once a while ago for takeout and then again recently with some friends for their dineLA lunch. The first time I ordered shahi paneer, rice, and onion naan. For dineLA I got Indian chai tea, a samosa, lamb Masala, and garlic naan. My friend got all the same, except aloo tikki instead of a samosa. I don't have any complaints with the taste of anything I've tried here, but I do feel like the portions are smaller than they are from the other nearby Indian establishments. However, the dineLA lunch was an amazing value, though they only do that twice a year. It was $15 for a drink, small appetizer, lunch platter with rice and salad, choice of curry, and naan. The stuffed naan is obviously more flavorful than plain, and they've been fun so far so I think I'll continue to try these when I want naan. I like the consistency of the paneer here, and the lamb was fine but not stellar. Everything looks, smells, and tastes fresh, so again, no complaints. The employees here aren't too talkative but not everyone needs that when they go out for food. read more

Wanted curry, as that's also from my background, we love curry, won't staying to far from here, cute little restaurant. Ordered the tikka wings for appetizer which was divine, like OH EM GEE kinda good. It had pickled onions and carrots on top which was even better than the wings LOL. The naan, mixed with the lamb masala yummy yummy in my tummy, there biryani was just ok. Needed some flavor! The chicken tikka tasted just like marinara sauce. Literally just like it. Lamb botie kababs first time trying it, which was also great. I just think the portions are definitely small for the price. For the couple things I ordered I spent $165. But food was good! Did some shopping in Old Town Pasadena and had dinner at All India Cafe because I was craving Indian food. The ambiance is casual, but cozy. We got the dahi potato puri, chicken tikka masala thali, tandoori chicken, and mango lassi. The dahi puri was refreshing, as it's crispy on the outside and tangy from the yogurt inside. The chicken tikka masala's portion was pretty small for the price. It could use more flavor and spice. Sadly, the tandoori chicken was so dry and hard to chew. Would of been great if it was grilled better. The naan and mango lassi was good though! Service was okay. No one came by our table unless we flagged someone down for assistance. Yesterday I was in Pasadena for work when I was craving some Indian food. I went on yelp and I found all India café so I thought to myself I need to try this place. This restaurant was very busy during lunch so come early or call ahead. The food was absolutely amazing. It's so much art and decoration inside this place felt like you were in India. The food is really good. The server recommended me a few items so I took pictures of all of them. I really love the garlic nan. Next time I'm in Pasadena I will definitely come back. Service: 5 stars. The tandoori grill was unforgivable tho. Chicken was dry as the Saharan desert. It was so dry, it was hard to chew. Both my friend and I got the tandoori grill. It came with naan and 4 tablespoons of mint chutney. The naan piece I ate was great. My friend said that his naan piece was dry and charred on the back. I told him that's how it is, you press it against the wall of the ove. He said "no, I got one piece that was good but the other I e was not." So he thinks consistency if the naan was subpar. But I was fine with naan. Now the meat. The tandoori grill is $22. It is approximately 12 oz of meat. There's lamb sausage, chicken thigh, and a piece of other chicken that came from the breast. I could not eat this as it was too hard. I asked for tamarind chutney. Extra $1. Chutney is a condiment so I feel like I was being charged for ketchup. Why? I have been here another time years ago but this visit solidified that I really should never come back here. I crave Indian food even more after coming here which means the food really is disappointing to me. read more

I don't know what my problem is, but I'm incredibly picky about Indian food. With other restaurants, I cut all kinds of slack. Mediocre tacos or pasta, fine. Lame pizza or a burger, whatever. But when I end up with bland Indian food, or Indian food that's over-salted, or undercooked rice, or a temperature less than piping hot, I just can't. Maybe it's because Indian food is my favorite cuisine and I can't stand to see it disrespected. My Indian co-worker is convinced I was Indian in a past life because of my Indian grub obsession. The sad thing here is it takes me FOREVER to find an Indian spot that I love and trust on a regular basis, and in this case, I had lived in Pasadena for over a year before finally getting to All India Cafe. Now that I've found it, I am home. First off, they have a pile of vegan options, clearly marked on the menu. And All India Cafe is more than happy to make other items vegan wherever they can. The veggie korma, for example, is traditionally prepared with cream. No problem, swap out the dairy for coconut cream and BOOM, you've got yourself a vegan korma. I could take a bath in that korma it's so tasty. Can't get enough of the samosas of course. And we get the Sev Puri, or as my toddler calls them, "Fancy Crackers," every time. We've worked our way through as much as the menu as possible and I've yet to have a complaint. The single not-so-perfect thing about All India is that the spiciness-level can be like the wild west. There are no rules. Asking for "mild" can mean pretty much anything. Let's call the spice range a 0-10. "Mild" is like a 0-2 mostly, but sometimes it's a 4. Which if you don't like spicy food, a 4 is a lot. Or like last week, our "mild" food was a solid 7 for sure. I love heat, gimme that spice all day, but my wife is not a fan, and she could not eat the Gobi Aloo or Baingan Bharta at all. I'm talking one bite of each, turned red, choked a little, and it was a samosa-only dinner for her from there. All in all though, we get food from here every one or two weeks. The inside is bustling and has pretty cool decor, but I can only vouch for the to-go experience as we've never dined in. Right when I found this beauty of a restaurant, we had take-out four times in one week. It's that good. Me, my wife, and my nearly three-year-old love the spot. Came here on a busy Friday night and was floored by how incredible the food was! Our server was extremely friendly, and helped us decide on which dishes to try out. We had an amazing Indian street food slider, and some lamb masala, chicken Jalfrezi, saffron rice, and garlic naan. Everything tasted 10/10! It was a little busy, and it was clear they were understaffed as it was also Diwali, so we felt it was more than understandable given the holiday & the fact it was Friday night. This cafe was listed on DineLA and I knew I had to try it! On their DineLA menu, I chose the samosa appetizer, lamb masala, garlic naan, and Indian chai. The samosa that came out was huge! It was filled with potato and peas. I always forget the names of the dipping sauce but I believe one was a mint chutney and the other was a plum sauce. The lamb masala was so flavorful and the lamb was tender. The plate also came with lentil soup and potato curry. Both equally delicious! The garlic naan came out fresh baked. Probably the best naan I've ever had. I had to stop myself from eating the whole basket. I haven't eaten at very many Indian restaurants, but I have to say this one is up there on my list. Plus, soo many locals were already coming in within an hour of opening to dine and for pickup. If you're ever in this area, I highly recommend dropping in! read more

I had the chicken tikki masala thali and it was a lot of food. I added $1 for the garlic naan as well. The 2 larger sides dishes tasted very bland, almost like a veggie soup with very little veggies nor protein. The yogurt cup was better but the veggies in it made it watery so the texture was a little weird. Rice was alright. The chicken tikki masala had flavor but the chicken was obviously cooked separately cause it didn't have any other flavor. The sauce was very creamy and lacking spice. The garlic on the garlic naan was just sprinkled on top, so you barely taste any garlic. Quite disappointed. read more

This place has a very small interior. It doesn't smell good inside, almost like it gets stuffy because there isn't good ventilation. Their outside dining area on the sidewalk also seems slightly intrusive and unfair to non-patrons, especially to pedestrians with accessibility needs who need to use the sidewalk. Other restaurants with outdoor dining in Pasadena, like the ones on Raymond, have a much better configuration with their outdoor dining on a designated part of the road instead of on the sidewalk itself. read more

Unless you're reaally craving Indian food, this wouldn't be the place to pick out of all the spots in Old Pasadena. My friend and I came here Thursday for dinner at around 5:30 and were seated immediately. They have indoor and outdoor dining options. Service was great and our food came out within 15 minutes of ordering. Props to their menu for being huuge. They do both North and South Indian food, though the focus seems to be North Indian. I was especially happy to see they had dosa, as in my experience its hard to find that on the menu without going to a specifically South Indian restaurant. We both wanted to try something new though, so we ordered the chicken and lamb frankie. From what I've heard the frankie is a popular street food, similar to a burrito. Granted I've never had this before, but there was no way what we got could be casually eaten on the streets given that the tortilla was soo soggy--when we tried to pick it up it immediately collapsed. I wish they had wrapped it in foil or something to give it some structure so we could hold it, because it also wasn't easy to eat it with a fork and knife. The sogginess also didn't make for a great texture when eating. I enjoyed the lamb, but the chicken was too dry. The raita/yogurt and the pickled vegetables on the side were delicious. Overall we were both satisfied with our meals, but considering all the other options in the area, this place felt a little lacking. read more

The batter was rather thick and the vegetables overcooked. We got both the lamb masala and chicken tikka masala. The lamb masala was far better- very tender and tasty. The clean was a little overcooked and dry. Don't order wine. I hesitated - it was a reunion of sorts so we splurged. Terrible. I don't know how you get such bad bottles but my goodness the Pinot noir was almost undrinkable. We had a lot of trouble getting our check correct. Even when it's extremely busy, Simran always gives us the best service, going above and beyond, making sure we're doing okay, as well as everyone else in the entire restaurant, including his workers. It was a nice rainy Friday night and this small restaurant was busy but not overly crowded where the four of us were seated within minutes. We ordered a glass of wine, tea, and two waters which never came. The food took awhile and the table next to us was served first but we arrived earlier than them. The food was pretty good and I ordered my favorite dish Chicken Tikka Masala. I had ordered it hot and it barely had any heat so anyone who loves spicy food make sure to order the top Very Hot level. I moved to Pasadena in September, I can confidently say this is the very first establishment I have received above and beyond service. The main guy in the photo is fantastic, very personable, very great salesman. He gave great recommendations for drinks, and apps. You can tell that he along with the few service members are really enjoying their jobs, they seem to have a team that is fond of eachother. I didn't take any photos of the food because I was so excited to eat it, I got a vegetarian thali which came with two veg entree choices, bread, daily dal and raita. This is the absolute perfect option for me, I really appreciate a variety. It was all delicious, I had a cauliflower and potato entree and butter paneer. Yum. Yum. Yum. I also really appreciate the tupperware after the meal, it has spots for every item, ensuring separation, another small detail I really appreciate. We enjoyed an an amazing meal in this gorgeous, historic building. Everyone was warm and welcoming. I had some of the best naan I've ever had. We had the chicken Vidaloo (sp?) and curried shrimp and saffron rice. Thumbs way up for the All India Cafe. We popped in today after doing some volunteer work in Altadena. We were greeted warmly and provided the best and friendliest service by Cimaron the owner's son and new manager. He recommended his new Street menu items which were fantastic! We had these crispy cups with a wonderful minty ginger sauce that exploded in your mouth! They've also got some sliders that are beautifully presented on a small colorful cart. Delicious! This is also a great place for cocktails with an Indian tasty twist! I had the Mumbai Mojito and my fiancé had a Serrano infused margarita- oh so fresh!
