The previous owners had used a mishmash of galvanized iron, plastic, and copper pipes to expand the water system which was troublesome, prone to leaking, and full of rusty crud. Two years ago, I decided to remodel the downstairs bathroom which involved cutting the entire floor out so we could put marble tile in the bathroom. At that point, when I got under the house and saw how bad the pipes were, I thought I'd bite the bullet and have a real plumber bring the entire system up to building code standards. I understand an "estimate" is just that--but it's always nice when a service under-promises and over-delivers I've now hired him for 2 jobs: first to replace an ancient water softener with a new whole-house water filter system (the whole-house filter is something I found on my own). Next to replace the majority of our galvanized pipes (anything he didn't need to open walls to get to). Replacing the galvanized pipes is turning out to be a bigger job than anticipated, so it's taken an extra visit and I anticipate this invoice will be at least as much as the estimate, but that's the way it goes sometimes. He mentioned he's been doing plumbing work for 18 years. He's a nice guy and clearly knowledgeable, capable and motivated. I'd recommend Sewer Line Survey for all your plumbing needs!
