BEWARE!!! Don't trust these people! This used to be a reputable company. New ownership changed all that. Told me the parts needed for my 8 year old furnace would be thousands and with labor over $4,000 to repair. Then said they could not get the parts for ten days. Then tried to sell me a new furnace for $11,000+ which they offered to install the next day. After they left I went online and found the parts they claimed I needed for less than $500 deliverable in two days. Called Barnell Heating and Air. Ben Barnell needed no new parts and had my furnace running in less than an hour. Said all it needed was a little routine maintenance. I had a $14K Daikin HVAC system installed in 2020, fully warrantied through Daikin and Performance Mechanical - including a paid service plan with JR Putman. When the outdoor unit failed in May 2025, I spent the entire summer without AC. JR Putman stalled for months, then refused service--even though they acknowledged my valid warranty. Worse: Instead of honoring the existing system, they tried to upsell me on a new $18K system "available next day." I had to buy portable AC units just to survive. Clearlake hits 90s+ in summer. I've filed with the BBB, CSLB, and California AG. JR Putman took over Performance Mechanical but abandoned their obligations. If you're a past customer or expect long-term service, don't count on them to show up. read more

Do not expect the same friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable service you likely had from Performance. I had 5 mini splits installed in my home 4 years ago and had performance mechanical come out and maintain them each year. When I called earlier this year they had me wait on hold for nearly an hour before telling me it would be $800. When I called today to ask if I could have a tech come out they put me on hold before telling me they no longer service mini splits installed by performance mechanical and suggested I get a new system because it's almost more expensive to replace than get a new one. While they try to represent themselves as a local business, the main company is JR Putman in Rancho Cordova. Their service persons aren't properly trained. Including the install , they've been here over a dozen times to try to get the $19,000 unit to function properly. It fails regularly. Summertime it runs almost nonstop trying to cool the house, now in winter it blows mostly cold air. Absolutely, The most unprofessional company ever!! Spend the extra $$ and go anywhere but here. Spent 8k on a new A/c . The so called tech that added the Coil up in our attic.. was either hung over or had a bad attitude. He was cursing the f word..and kept dropping his putty knife and nicking our wall. I was in disbelief. Then he gets some putty and tries to fix it. ( what if my walls were gray or green ?? I don't live in a mobile home I have a custom made beautiful house.) Then several months later our ceilings caved in 2 room b/c they were so lazy and they didn't put the piping in the right way. IT LEAKED!!! I should of used sued them like my first thought, but the owner Phil..had good communication skill and we let them fix it. They promised they would fix it right. Well it looks like a 5 year old did the work. They were so cheap the used a whole gallon of paint for 2 rooms And RAN OUT!! I didn't even leave a bad review. ..But then now our blower motor went out ( that should of been checked by them ) We called them to get a quote and they wanted close to 5 GRAND!! My husband fixed it himself for less then $700.00 go to Jonas brothers like my best friend did. These clowns will rip you off and just take short cuts. Look at what they did to my house below. They couldn't even afford to paint it b/c they are so cheap smh. I would give them 0 stars if I could . If I owed the company and my workers did that to a house. Almost a year ago we had , what I thought was a new air conditioning system installed , a complete air conditioning system would have included a new blower motor as the old one was the same age as the AC condenser outside which gave out finally. Now while installing the new coil " as it's called" in the attic and a lot of swearing cussing and dinging up the wall near the ladder it was installed,, with the new condenser by Amana outside!! Great I thought !! I can fix the scrapes on the wall later. 6 months after the installation the first summer of really using it ? Our ceilings caved in because of water leaking from a section of pvc pipe that was coupled wrong!! My beautiful house wrecked ,, just like that!! Then I'm told a story by the owner Phil about how they're like a family and he added all the mistakes that the worker has made in the past and how they have never had to resort to they're insurance before,, usually they fix it themselves?? I feel stupid now because I bought it!! Didn't report it to my insurance and got the waviest hallway and spare bedroom,, NOT looking like nothing happened!! As I was told it would. By the owner !! This was a few months back. Now!! As a realtor came to list the house for me from Santarosa first asked,, what happened in the hallway there ,, looks like water damage!! Because of the waves in the ceiling!! And AND!! The blower motor quits the very next day on the AC ,, excuse me the NEW? AC? One year after installation almost. Now I'm no expert but I am an MMI and UTI Graduate also John Oconnell school of technology for aircraft wiring ,, it's where you start. Not a trained AC tech but shouldn't you install everything new as it was replacing a 16 year old system? Kinda like changing the water pump on a car and using the old timing belt or a brake job and using the old rotor (disc) !! No?? Now they want another 4K to replace the motor, of which I already did today!! Drove all the way to Redding for the motor and was instructed on how to put it in by the technician, very cool! The motor was 745$ So I saved over 3200$ Most probably can't just do this but it really was the easiest mechanical thing I've ever worked on? Even taught my wife! All I'm saying is this whole thing could have been avoided? If I had gone somewhere else! Should have gone to Jonas!! I also read what goes into a NEW AC REPLACEMENT in most companies!! 1 ac condenser and core! 2 clean and inspect all old air ducts if the system is over 12 years old! 3 inspect and more than likely replace the 12 year old motor! I guess in they're minds ,, one out of 3 ain't bad??? So we have a real contractor to redo our hallway and I replaced the blower at my own cost and time! One star is too many but can't leave a review without one. Making sure all my real estate friends beware of this company and anyone else that listens!! One tells ten and so on. read more

Failure to respond to my central air conditioning problem. I called them because they were able to do a good job on the house when the heating went out last November. There is never an issue about them being paid, as my landlord is very prompt when paying for work on the house. I am an elderly, disabled woman who has lived alone since my husband died in November 2022. One would think they care enough to try to give me a callback. This tarnishes the otherwise excellent service provided in the past. I called them about this issue early in the last week of June. Extremely disappointing and dangerous to my health. read more

Near the end of the last cold season, my kerosene heater Monitor 2200 was giving errors and not producing heat. Since I delivered parcels to this business and they seemed friendly, the place was clean and they seemed responsible I decided to check them out. The guy came out went, was on time, and explained the process if troubleshooting. He went through the machine, reviewed it and noticed the problem. He was able to fix it and teach me about the equipment. He showed me that it was working. At the beginning of the new cold season, which was this week, after resetting the device, it's working like a champ! I would hire this company again if needed. read more

Stellar service! Technicians arrived on time to replace the entire AC unit in Hidden Valley Lake. The old unit was hauled away. It was 68 degrees when they arrived at 8:00am and 100 degrees when they finished the work around 2:00pm. I am very satisfied with their timeliness, responsiveness, work quality, and quality of the equipment (let alone working outdoors in the heat!). They are professional and know what they are doing. All my questions were answered. It is very difficult to find businesses that will answer the phone (with live voice), respond in a timely manner to emails, and provide transparent work estimates. I had accidently drilled a hole in one of my house heat pumps that needed repair and the liquid coolant completely replaced. Jesse showed up on time and looked at the unit. He informed me that the whole unit would have to be replaced.. I didn't quite understand why it couldn't be repared and he also told me that the heat pump being built in 2007 there were no parts available and if I tried to order parts, the manufacturer would have to make them. He said it would take 6 month or so to get them. He then gave me a verbal quote of $13,000 to replace the unit with a new one. Jesse offered me a 10 year warranty included in the price. The price didn't seem right to me, so I looked into buying a new replacement unit myself. The new unit was quoted from the manufacturer at $3500.00 for an exact replacement match for the size of the damaged unit. The manufacturer said the 10 year warranty was included in the sale price, and that all units come with a 10 year warranty. So, Jesse was pricing would actually be asking $9500.00 just for the labor. When I asked him about the excessive labor charge he said it would be three guys to work for the day to install. So, if you figured 3 guys at 8 hours labor for the day, it would be a total of 24 labor hours. Twenty four hours devided by $9500.00 is $396.00 per hour for each laborer. So, the labor would be actually be $1188.00 per hour to install a total plug and play unit. No custom work would have been required. Just remove the old unit and place the new one in its place. When I called Jesse on this outragous labor charge, he refused to return my texts or calls. I really believe Jesse was price gouging and taking advantage of my urgent need to get the unit working due to the cold weather. Jesse was taking advantage of senior citizens and trying to rip me off. I contacted my neighbor who used to be in the trade of HVAC and he repaired the unit in a half hour by simply brazing the hole closed. This is a repair that Jesse said couldn't be done. It was actually a very simple repair. I also found out that the parts were indeed available and the damaged part could have been ordered for $1400.00 total cost, including delivery. Performance Mechanical is a total ripoff and all customers should review their quotes carefully, especially senior citizens. Remember, you can Google the price of most HVAC replacement parts and complete units. Don't let companies like Perfromance Mechanical rip you off because you live in Lake County. Simply, stay away from these guys. I'm pretty sure that the five star reviews here are fake. read more

Called to have my 2 ACs checked our due to them crapping out once we moved into our home. Initially they were booked out a week, but then I received a call back that they could come later in the morning. Jesse was our technician and he was very kind and knowledgeable. He was very respectful and punctual. He was able to quickly diagnose that our run caps were out for both ac units and quickly switched them out. Set us back $439 with a $129 diagnostic fee $155 for each run cap ($30 part part $125 labor each). So far our AC is nice and cold. They also have a 30 day warranty on their work and parts. They are a good company to work with, a little pricey but I'd recommend them. read more

Couldn't be happier with our experience with performance! We had a problem with our cooler and after inspection they went on a mission for parts for my old cooler. After finding the parts to be quite elusive due to the age of my cooler they gave us a very favorable option of full replacement at a rate that was too good to pass up. The workers were prompt, courteous and all business.i felt very comfortable welcoming them into my home and would recommend them to anyone with heating or air conditioning needs! 8/2/22 - I regret having to do this update but I have to put this out there not just for Perf Mechanical but for ANYONE getting a "seasonal checkup" service from ANY A/C repair company. As I took it, the "seasonal checkup" (done in April, pre-hot season) was supposed to be a complete check of the system to make sure it was operating all fine and ready for heavy duty work. Upshot: when I first turned system on in June, it blew cold for a few hours, then nothing. Technician came out, determined there was no coolant, it had all leaked out over the past year. Ok, tiny leaks maybe? Couldn't remember if the system was actually RUN sufficiently back in April. Diagnosis: system took (rare) R22 coolant, $1100.00 to refill system with it. Got some two weeks later, filled system, I ran it the next day and within 3-4 hours, zero cool. Technical came out. Upshot: ENTIRE COOLANT FILL HAD LEAKED OUT IN THE SPACE OF ONE DAY. Tech showed me the infrared picture of the cooling coil, the thing looked like swiss cheese with hole. No wonder, but WHY was this not caught at the seasonal check, with the coil in that horrible a shape? I asked this question in an email to them, and the question was dodged (of course, what could the answer be??). SO, everyone BEWARE of "seasonal checkups" and make sure the system is really tested, i.e. run for HOURS, or maybe a whole day? Too bad. I was fond of these guys, generally, but how can I use them again? I got a new home warranty and we'll see who they send out when it kicks in in a month. read more

My earlier review was based on my initial experience which was very favorable, but when I checked back and spoke again with Cory regarding the installation of my new heater he jacked up the price from his original quote of $1,200 to $3,000 plus! I reminded him he had quoted me $1,200 for a basic furnace, installation, permit, etc. He suddenly had amnesia and claimed he never quoted any price. There you have it. Wow! They were recommended by a friend and I am so happy with the performance. They came out for an estimate in a timely fashion and came back to install a short time later. My swamp cooler started making a loud knocking noise, and I called them to set up a appointment. The young man who was very nice that showed up went on the roof, and told me that it was happening because a bearing was going out. He told me he could fix it but I would have to get the replacement myself (huh?). He lubricated everything and got the noise to stop. I did ask this guy how much would a new cooler cost and he quoted me a cost of $3,500 (is he nuts?) Next day it started happening again. Called them to make an appointment and they could not see me for another three weeks! I made an appointment but cancelled it after calling a competitor who told me they could send someone out the next day. They showed up and told me that it was just the pulley wheel was slightly out of alignment, repaired it, and it has been working fine ever since. read more

Had a repair call for my swamp cooler earlier and Ryan the technician showed up to do it. We know him from a previous service call. The original diagnostic fee was $129 which we agreed on and he stated it was the motor in the unit that was bad. Ryan said the repair cost would be $495. I was a little taken back and I looked up the motor price and they were about $100-$125 online. Despite this, we agreed to the repair and he got started. Ryan discovered that he needed a different size pulley to complete the job and that it would only cost us the price of the part and not drive time, labor, etc. We agreed again and he went to Mendo Mill and purchased the pulley. He returned and I asked how much it cost. He said it would be $145 dollars and I about lost it. I looked up the price of the exact part and it was $14.95!!! I asked Ryan why and he said they have a book that they HAVE to charge what their markup book says, which is all outrageously overpriced. When I called the manager Denise. She tried to feed me some BS about how it was drive time and labor and some other factors, even though the Tech said none of that would be included. Ryan apologized and I understood as he was only doing what his policies tell him. I respectfully asked him to terminate the job, paid the $129 fee and we ended up getting all the necessary parts ourselves and completed the job for under $130 and in less than 30 minutes!! Also, before all of this. They adamantly tried to push their new $169 charge for an emergency callout. It was borderline harassment. This company is extremely shady and their prices are outrageously marked up. I highly recommend looking elsewhere for your HVAC needs. read more

My ancient Trane stopped working just as temperatures were rising in Lakeport. I called Performance and the owner Phil, came out personally within two hours. He was right on time and literally flew up and down his ladder to solve the problem ( which turned out to be related to stored acorns in the electrical unit by some enterprising squirrel). Phil had all the necessary parts to replace the breaker and condenser in his truck, Amazing considering my HVAC unit was about 20 years old. In no time Phil had the unit working and convinced me to have annual maintenance to keep local rodents at bay. The vent was a challenge and required it to go through the attic and roof. Other companies we called would not do the entire project. I was looking to replace my old Central heating and Air system for my 1,400 sq ft home. So I called Performance Mechanical. When Performance Mechanical came out, they explained I had some options. And they explained to me how there is a split system unit that would work for me because of the layout of my house. It is different then my current central heating and air. It is a more efficient and it comes with a 12 year parts and labor warranty. It is called a Daikin split system unit. So after their recommendation I had that split system installed. They came out and installed it in one day. I was really impressed on the two guys that came out which was Cory & Steven. They were very professional and polite. When they were done with the install everything was clean and neat. Really the best part of this, is with this new efficient system I saved over 63% on my PG&E Bill. Incredibly, these bums at PM actually believe they can rip off the elderly and still get 5 star reviews. When I unknowingly ran out of propane, they came out and attempted to replace an expensive $200 part ( without ever checking for the presence of gas ). When the part they had attempted to install would not fit, they put the original part back in. The tech left without ever checking the work he had just performed which was shoddy and dangerous causing 2 new gas leaks and making us sick. Next day a different tech came out due to our gas leak caused by them. It was determined that no problem existed with the heater. We ran out of gas! Now they are demanding $200 for the crap they had the nerve to charge us for. We are elderly and disabled and cannot comply with their attempted Elder Abuse. read more
