I came to Weston Lakes Animal Hospital years ago with my own little chi and I still remember how I was treated and taken care of. This time around, I had to come to bring my family dog which she's obviously more than just a dog. She's the little queen of the house. She wasn't feeling good at all, whimpering, whining, panting. We knew something was up! The only place I could think of was instantly WLAH! So I made a quick call, the next day I was able to get in for an appointment. When I arrived, the place seemed immaculately clean especially for a veterinarian practice. Upon arriving, we were instantly greeted and placed in an exam room. One of the technicians came, listened to what was going on and already knew a lot of it since the receptionist surely had great communication and left plenty of notes. She was then taken to the vet to be seen, examined and evaluated. Dr Rivera came back with my little chihuahua in a very speedy manner! I have nothing but great things to say about her. She listened, was very compassionate and extremely thorough in explaining everything to us. A very reasonable estimate was given to us for what she thought would be best recommended. The staff nor the ver were pushy at all. That's the best part, you felt right at home, with a family that is just trying to do what's best for the most special little dog in your life. Since the treatment would take some time, we left her and came back after a couple of hours. X-rays, bloodwork and medication were sent home for her to feel better. It's only been a couple of days and we're already seeing so much improvement in her! From the moment you walk in, Weston Lakes Animal Hospital makes you feel like you're in a familiar place. They truly have my trust and I will always and forever recommend this place for my fellow Floridians. Thank you Dr Rivera, Shilo and all the wonderful staff! You all are amazing!

Our family dog's health declined rapidly within just a few hours, so my mom called this practice…read moreahead of time to explain the situation. She was told they would be able to help. When she arrived, however, she waited over an hour and 15 minutes. During that time, she repeatedly asked when the doctor would be available and was continually told that other emergencies had come in and that the doctor would be "right with her." I completely understand that emergency clinics can become overwhelmed and that critical cases may arrive unexpectedly. What was frustrating and heartbreaking was the lack of honesty and communication about the actual wait time. Had they been upfront and told my mom the doctor would likely be delayed for a significant amount of time, she could have immediately taken our dog elsewhere for treatment. What made the experience even more upsetting was that while my mom was still waiting -- without anyone having assessed or treated our dog yet -- the receptionist approached her to send someone to discuss payment options. It felt incredibly insensitive given the seriousness of the situation and the fact that our dog still had not been seen by a doctor. After waiting over an hour, our sweet girl Luna had declined even further and was no longer able to walk. My mom made the difficult decision to leave and drive 20 minutes to another emergency hospital. The moment she arrived there, multiple staff members rushed to help her and informed us that Luna was already in critical condition. She was diagnosed with sepsis and pancreatitis. Sadly, despite their efforts, she passed away later that night. I understand that veterinary staff work under immense pressure and that emergencies can happen at any time. But honest communication and urgency matter in life-or-death situations. I truly wish this clinic had been transparent about the wait so Luna could have received the care she needed sooner.

I really want to bring attention to Melissa. She has made every service delightful by interacting well with Armani and also having a warm and welcoming spirit to me as an owner is very appreciative and reassuring that my pet is in the best hands possible. Even when I call the office for certain medications or question/concerns, she has always been there to reassure me with any questions that I may have that she answers them to her best capability along with getting the doctor involved if I ever need something done. I truly appreciate Melissa so much. The great reviews you see are not for the new owner, Dr. Rivas. I've been a client of this practice for 20+ years. I inherited the new vet and planned on remaining with this practice. It's much easier to just stay where I'm familiar and comfortable and where my animals are familiar and comfortable. Unfortunately, the new vet does not warrant the high ratings that Dr. Sam Straus worked so hard at achieving. I've taken my records and have left this practice.

I was nervous about anesthesia but the procedure was essential for his health and comfort -- he had a fractured tooth and an infected gumline abscess. From the very first consultation, Dr. Elizabeth and her team were thorough, gentle, and patient, answering all of my questions without making the visit feel rushed. I left feeling informed, supported, and confident in my decision to proceed, and scheduled his procedure for the following week. The day of surgery I received timely updates, including when he was placed under anesthesia. Once asleep, they performed detailed X-rays and CT images to assess all teeth. Dr. Elizabeth personally called me from the operating room to discuss additional findings and procedures. It's simply impossible to fully evaluate a dog's mouth during the initial consultation while he is nervous and squirmy. Cooper ultimately required three extractions and a cleaning. I was notified when he was taken to recovery, and he was discharged after two hours of additional monitoring. I was given a comprehensive booklet with photographs, charts, postoperative medication instructions, and recommended products to maintain his dental health moving forward. That evening, Dr. Elizabeth personally called me to check on him. Lastly, I want to address the topic of cost, which I've seen mentioned in other reviews. This is not a standard veterinary office. While many clinics offer surface-level cleanings, Dr. Elizabeth's team provides comprehensive advanced dental medicine. A tooth that visually appears healthy on the outside can be unknowingly be diseased within -- and without advanced imaging, you simply cannot know. In my opinion, it is best to address everything once than potentially multiple future procedures, compiling additional repetitive cost. Our pets deserve the same standard of care we expect for ourselves. This level of medicine is an investment, and when you view your pet as a family member, the peace of mind is priceless.

After two rounds of antibiotics and nearly $600 in treatment costs, the problem is still unresolved and Rex continues to have discomfort and odor. When I called today to discuss next steps and whether the office would be willing to work with us given the repeated visits for the same unresolved issue, Dr. Sobol immediately responded, "If you're asking for a discount, the answer is absolutely not." I understand veterinarians deserve to be paid for their services. However, after multiple unsuccessful treatments, I expected a more compassionate and collaborative response rather than an immediate dismissal centered around payment. My concern is not just the cost, but the lack of empathy and professionalism in handling an ongoing issue for a returning patient.

Over the years, we briefly tried other veterinarians due to rising costs, but nothing compares to the care, compassion, and dedication we experienced when we truly needed it most. One of our three beloved kitties, Katy Pury, was recently diagnosed with feline triaditis. We don't have children--our cats are our babies. When our previous vet said he would "look into options" and never followed up, we were devastated and scared. We knew we wanted to do everything possible for our girl and didn't want to live with regrets. That's when Jodi and Dr. B stepped in--and changed everything. From the very first conversation, we felt heard, supported, and hopeful. They offered a truly integrative approach using both Western and Eastern medicine, including acupuncture and herbal therapy. Katy Pury was treated immediately during our first visit, and we are already seeing encouraging signs of improvement with her follow-up care. Instead of being told to prepare for goodbye, we are now filled with hope that our girl will be with us longer because of the thoughtful, proactive treatment she is receiving. If you ever feel that your current vet isn't doing everything possible for your pet, I cannot recommend strongly enough that you seek a second opinion here. Extra Care Animal Hospital goes above and beyond--not just treating pets, but caring for families. Thank you, Jodi and Dr. B, for your compassion, expertise, and for giving us hope when we needed it most. You are truly helping save our baby, Katy Pury.

From the very beginning, the team at Extra Care was incredibly kind, patient, and compassionate as they helped us understand and navigate our options. We ultimately decided to move forward with amputation. It was a frightening and unfamiliar journey, but one we knew we had to take for Chloe. Less than a week after her diagnosis, she underwent surgery and recovered quickly. Throughout that time, the hospital took wonderful care of her and helped us adjust to our new normal. Most importantly, Chloe was happy and no longer in pain, and for that we were truly grateful. She went on to live two more wonderful years. Although the cancer eventually returned, even after amputation and chemotherapy, we would not trade those two years for anything. We would make the same decision again without hesitation, especially now that we know how much love, support, and hope this process can bring. We are so thankful for Dr. T and her staff at Extra Care. They were there for us through every high and low, and they made an incredibly difficult experience feel a little less overwhelming. This is truly a special place that felt like home to us. Chloe was always happy to see Dr. T and her amazing staff, which says so much about the love and care they gave her. They are simply wonderful.
