Let me start off by saying: my furry feline compatriot and I had a way better experience here than I expected to have with a vet clinic and All-Pets Hospital, despite the drab name, made it so. I am ever thankful to the staff who helped me, Dr. Berge, Heidi, and Jasmine. My story starts with a kitten that was found outside, an associate of mine found a litter and I was lucky to meet a wonderful female domestic long-hair (I now know this thanks to the staff) with a coat of greens and browns, blacks and whites, that, while very common in domestic cat coloring, is still wayyy cool to look at. Plus, she is just the cutest. She was weaned a bit early when I adopted her, but she is outgoing and made my house her kingdom. When I got her, she had a slight eye infection that I thought would clear up by itself. So I made an appointment with the ARL for her shots (because it's cheap and they do a good job with their vaccines and microchips) the appointment wasn't for a few weeks and I thought she could wait until then. (Little did I know). I came home from work and her eye was red, swollen, and sealed shut from her infection and the poor girl looked miserable. I ended up calling 3 different vet clinics/hospitals near me, all during their work hours, multiple times, yet not one of them picked up the phone -- 5-10 rings, then voicemail. This was not what All-Pets Hospital did though, the fantabulous Jasmine picked up the phone before I even heard a ring (no joke!), finally someone can help my kitten. Jasmine got me the next available appointment -- 30 minutes from then, quick quick quick. I load up my precious cargo and head over to be immediately seen by Heidi who plays with my kitten and answers all of my questions, including the two biggest ones: 1) Is she going to be ok, (yes, she is, thank you All-Pets), and 2) How much will this set me back financially ($~70 for the appointment, and $25 for her eye drops. Which the wonderful Jasmine already let me know on the phone earlier). Good, about the standard for Vets in the area. Then the hero stepped in very soon after that, again, quick! This staff must have superhuman speed! Dr. Berge not only diagnosed and helped cure the eye infection, she also found ear mites, that she ended up cleaning from my Kitten's ear for free. That is right, gratis. She knew that I might not be the most financially secure, so she let me know many options of care before, and tried to save me money, while answering every mundane question I had about raising my cat. She did so well, that I went ahead and upsold myself (paid for them to do a blood test for "feline AIDS"), because this place deserved my money and so much more for all they did and the wonderful care they took of my cat AND me! I ended up leaving with healthy kitten, much more knowledge, a calmer feeling in myself. Oh they also gave my little kitten Missy Elliott some toys to play with. Score! Heidi said she is going to email me some more information about raising my kitten into a happy fat cat (my words, not hers) and she said she is going to personally call me in a few days to check up on her patient. Too Long;Dont Read: Not only did I set up a follow up, I will forever be a loyal customer to All-Pets Hospital and the team there that took service with a smile, to a whole new level. I will always be grateful for how they treated me and my kitten (regardless of the horrible attitude she had; they know that in the end, she is an animal controlled completely by impulse). from the phone call, to after care. I was headed out of town on a business trip to DC one week ago, when I noticed that my dog had an inflamed red spot on his tail, and was licking his stomach more than usual. I had to catch an early flight the next morning, and my husband is usually not the one who takes the pets to the vet, but under the circumstances, he would have to. We've gone to All-Pets for many years, but this time they went above and beyond. My husband was able to drop our dog off first thing in the morning (he had a busy day, so was unable to stay for a traditional appointment). The staff were nice enough to contact me by text message while I was out of town and let me know the diagnosis (two hotspots) and the treatment (steroids, antibiotics, and a topical powder), and my husband was able to pick Bubba up later that day when he was off work. I was so happy with the way the situation was handled, and how easy the staff at All-Pets made it for my husband to navigate Bubba's care while I was away. I'll never take my pets to another clinic as long as All-Pets is open. read more

Amazing is the word to describe the vets and staff at All Pets. I have taken my cats, dogs and parrot there for over 15 years. You get "above and beyond" service with this team. They take the extra time to talk to you, explain treatment, and help with behavioral problems. Dr. Kathy Berge also works with birds and it is difficult to find care for parrots in some areas. We have gone through puppy visits, neutering, minor surgery, wellness checks, and even euthanasia over the years and their service has always been professional with a lot of extra care. When you have pets, its about the humans as much as the animals and the staff here understand the human needs too. I would highly recommend them if you are in need of lifelong care for your pet. read more

I took my 11 year old German Shepherd for exam and to check her hips. She is in pain and has dysplasia, which is common in shepherds. I was impressed that the Vet checked Petmeds.com to compare prices on pain meds for her. She also checked her blood to ensure her liver enzymes could handle the pain meds that meet her needs. We found the Heartguard and Frontline had rebates that were not available online so they were cheaper at the Vet clinic. I was very pleased that the Vet took the time to talk to me about my animals and educated me on several things for their care. Plus, the Vet tech was very helpful and educated when it came to describing the particular drugs and side-effects. read more

Dr. Larson changed my dogs life! I brought him in after recently moving across the country. My last vet diagnosed him with mange but his treatment plan was wrong and my puppy was getting worse. After one visit, Dr. Larson diagnosed him with allergies, addressed the issue and he is a totally new dog. His wounds were terrible, coat was horrible and he had lost a ton of weight. I also had him bathed (to help with the state he was in) and they did a FANTASTIC job. Our follow ups have been extremely helpful and Elliot is almost fully recovered. All the staff recognize Elliot and you can tell they really care. A huge thank you to All Pets and Dr. Larson! read more

This was the best experience I have ever had at a veterinarians office visit. Not only did I feel welcomed but my dog Leroy did too. I could tell because he took treats right from the doctor. Our Doctor spent a lot of time with us to get to know him (Leroy) because it was our first time there. She did not "push" any thing on us and explained each option in detail. We are so pleased with the care and service our cats Tiffy and Teddy, and four others before them, receive from Dr. Berge and the All-Pets staff. They are top-knotch - knowledgeable, skilled, friendly, willing to answer questions, and keep us in on the decision making. Their compassion about animals shows in their interactions with them. I have been so impressed over the last two years with the quality of service they provide: I've brought cats in for everything from basic exams and teeth cleanings to surgery and end of life care. First time visiting and my cat was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease. They've been wonderful working with me trying to get my cat back to health. We really like All Pets. They charge us half as much as our previous vet, and they don't recommend costly unnecessary tests and extras. We really like dr. Kathy Berge, and she is very sweet and attentive with our dog. The front desk staff is easy to work with and good about things like picking up medications. Would definitely recommend. read more

Our snake got sick and we were desperate. Never had problems with exotic animals in the past. A lot of places in Des Moines no longer accepted exotics when we called and we took a chance on All Pets.
