Bottom Line: Local pizzeria in the Navy Yard that we were hoping would be our go-to spot for great pizza, drinks, and apps, but All-Purpose unfortunately disappointed us in its most important category: pizza Food: Sadly over-priced pizzas that we we expected would be out of this world for a whopping $20, but sadly, the heavy breaded pizza (as soon in every photo) left not a whole lot of room for toppings and by the time you end up at the end of the slice, you're left with a dishearteningly DRY and space-y crust that makes you crave a dip in some marinara, which costs an additional three whole dollars ($3). We ended up stuffing our face with the crust just because we were still left hungry from the size of the pizza. - BUONA PIZZA: added mushrooms for an additional $2 -- from the part of the pizza that had toppings, it was actually a solid 5/5 flavor, but were wishing it extended further into the slice. -EGGPLANT PARM "New Jersey" style -- this was a solid appetizer with loads of cheese and great tomato sauce. Solid 5/5! Highly recommend. Service: Gotta give them a higher score simply because of their great service! Quick to seat and take order. Do expect an automatic 20% service charge on your bill (I think it may be 20%). Final thoughts: Sadly, my fiancee and I will not be returning back to All-Purpose Riverfront. There are more affordable, larger, equally tasting, and more filling pizzas around the area that we expect to frequent in comparison. My Partner In Munch and I love the pizza at the first location so we decided to give the waterfront a try. We order hummus, garlic knots, beer, Buona pizza & dreadful Titos & pineapple. The feel in the restuarant is cold, nothing like the other location. It is crowded, staff in not the best at providing items (we were reached over quite a few times). The WORST part of the night was when we ordered Tito's and pineapple..... the first batch tasted like seltzer water, yuck ! The second batch was a literal SPLASH of Titos & pineapple.....1oz of each. The server was so eager for the receipt that I moved to add a cash tip, she walked around me to pick it up & bought her way out of a tip. They charged for the pineapple juice by the way in that "drink", please ! We shall not be returning to the Water Street location, disappointed. read more

Absolutely one of my favorite pizza restaurants in DC. I had the Sedgewick pizza which was delicious. It was wood fire and the crust was charred perfectly. The Sedgwick has a delicious whipped ricotta top with truffle honey - AMAZING. I also added pepperoni to us. My husband had the Buona and it was also very good! I couldn't decide on a drink so I described to the waiter something I was feeling and the bartender whipped up just what I wanted! The atmosphere is very fun and inviting. You could sit inside or outside. If you're there at night, I recommend sitting on the roof or on the patio. The river view is so relaxing and beautiful! We've never had a complaint for service. All Purpose is absolutely worth a visit. We came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon--- it was pretty packed but we were seated right away. I really loved the ambiance and the decor of the place. The service was super friendly and attentive. We ordered two different pizza which was the best pizzas I have had in a while. The pizzas are thin, but the dough is chewy and perfectly cooked. You can make your own, but they have some classics and twists that you should give a try. We also ordered drinks and they were absolutely phenomenal. This place has a lot of great things going for it. First, it's in a great spot. The new waterfront development is inviting and actually provides for some great views on a nice day. Second, it's a great stop pre-Nats game. Check out the happy hour. Third, the beer is awesome and the bar has a great design. Fourth, the food is good. And more than just the pizza. I highly recommend the eggplant Parm. The lemonade was also homemade and tart. I particularly liked the Sedgwick. I was not super pumped about the standard pizza, I will say. It was a bit bland. This is one of my and my wife's favorite places, we love going here! As a native New Yorker their pizza reminds me of home, and we've enjoyed their eggplant parm for years. After the pandemic, we've made sure to keep supporting them - we've gotten take out and also dined on the patio. We've found the service, food, and experience are as a great as ever, and they practice excellent COVID-19 procedures (the staff wears masks, guests wear masks when not dining, tables are spaced six feet apart, and the restaurant is continuously cleaned). Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we also had to postpone our traditional wedding celebration. But we were tired of waiting to get married, so we decided to have a small, socially distanced ceremony with close family and friends - and All-Purpose was happy to help! There staff was extremely responsive and went above and beyond to make our day special. We got married there two weeks ago and are so happy! Disclaimer: I've never been to the original AP in Shaw. We popped into the one behind Nats Stadium on a walk for lunch, no waiting and loads of available seats. I ordered the egg and sausage skillet, which was essentially an Italian shakshuka. Tangy and flavorful, it was just the right size for a mid-day meal. I was a bit surprised that it didn't come with bread for dipping in the abundance of sauce, but the wait staff jumped on my request to provide a few slices. I didn't eat pizza due to a dairy allergy, but those at my table loved the pie dough. Much better than the Shaw location, they said, with a great flavor and bit of spring to the bite. The brunch pizza with capers and anchovy's was a big hit--and less "typical" than the other pies. read more

Great pizza here. The crust is an absolute winner -- best in DC?? Thick enough that it's not droopy when held, nice and crisp crunch, and a crunchy crust border that is nice and raised. We ordered the Childish Bambino pizza and were very happy with it. We also ordered the Fried Mozzarella (great flavorful marinara dipping sauce with a bit of tang) and the Crispy Calamari (the pickled chilies are the star here). The House Salad was big enough to share and they offered to split it up onto two plates which was an appreciated suggestion and nice touch. 4.5 stars. The only reason I can't give this five stars is the price. Spending almost $30 for a pizza just hurts too much. That said, the pizza itself is awesome. I ordered the Sedgewick with added sausage, and it was delicious. I'm a sucker for honey and truffle on pizza in all circumstances, but it is especially well-balanced here. Note that if you call in an order, you don't need to wait at the host stand with the long line of folks waiting to put their name in. Just walk by and tell the folks inside that you're picking up. (They have a really nice patio and roof space! I just didn't feel like waiting/having to add a tip to my already egregiously priced pizza.) Chef Mike if you're reading this, I NEED the recipe to that smoked fish dip. My recommended pizza is to get the white pizza(sedgewick), and get prosciutto(or whatever similar meat they have) baked into it! Don't miss out on the garlic knots with that cheese spread! Our server, for some reason, had the worst attitude I have ever experienced. He seemed to be angry to be working in the first place. Late 20s early 30s skinny guy with dark hair. Never gave us his name ( i wonder why).We came ready for fun and some bottomless drinks, from the moment we sat down he was rude and condescending towards us. One word responses every time we tried to order anything. He seemed upset every time we would order another round instead of ordering dinner. I think he was more concerned with flipping the table instead of providing good service to us. I understand people can have bad days (and i hope this was one of those) but it's unacceptable to put that on your guests and make them feel unwelcome I guess thats what you get when you make $15 an hour and gratuity is included :/ read more

Had an awesome brunch here on NYE with two girlfriends. The deal is $21 for bottomless brunch drink (Bellini, mimosa, bloody, or aperol spritz) with the purchase of a pizza or brunch special. We got in before things got too busy but there was so much staff around greeting people and making sure everything was going efficiently. The pizza was incredible, the mimosa were perfectly made. My only complaint is that it got a little busy so in our two hour time slot I feel like we could have had our glasses full more often. My thanks go out to the Washington Post for their rave review of All Purpose. Without it, I might have gone months or years without knowing that All Purpose was not a Navy Yard area pizza spot like Wise Guy or Oath, but was instead fine Italian dining disguised as a casual eatery. I went with one other friend and at the suggestion of our waitress, split a pizza and an anti pasta. We went for the Sicilian Marinara - a pizza with Anchovy, capers, garlic and tomato (note: no cheese). This particular pizza is a bit salty, but with anchovy and capers, it is expected (and if you like capers and garlic and anchovy - you'll love it). The crust has a flavor all it's own - it's not just a vehicle for pizza toppings. Fried Brussels sprouts in a tahini sauce is so insanely tasty that I'm convinced I'll never ever be able to attempt a recreation in my own kitchen. I don't know how they make a green vegetable taste that good. read more

We were seated in their outdoor area of the restaurant where you enter. The view we had of the river was great! Their pizzas come in one size, which appear to be 12". We ordered the Sedgewick and a plain cheese pizza. In addition, we ordered the meatballs. Ww had two waters and a lemonade to drink.The meatballs we're prepared with a red sauce and cheese in the middle of the grouping. The meatballs we had were some of the best we've ever had. The pizzas were less desirable. Although the Sedgewick had a descent flavor, the bread was dry and made up 80% of the pie. The server was pleasant and fairly responsive. The totalcost was $59.xx. Overall, I would not recommend the place based off our experience. The value of what we had did not come close to what we paid. The good news is that you can sit along where the outdoor eating is located and enjoy the same view without the cost of eating there. read more

We arrived just as they were closing (oops), but they were still friendly and didn't rush us to finish our drinks. We LOVE All Purpose and have visited regularly over the past two years. It's our favorite pizza and I dream of the Buona! We were really bummed to see they've recently made the pizza selection smaller to add charcuterie and pasta to the menu. I'm not sure why they're experimenting here - the Shaw location's menu remains the same. When I want pasta, I go to Red Hen (their sister restaurant, which is fabulous) - I go to All Purpose for pizza. We were really sad to see the garlic knots kicked off the menu as they were a highlight. We'll still go to All Purpose but with a smaller pizza selection and our favorites getting kicked off the menu, we'll visit much less often. read more

Having been to the Shaw location, I was pumped when I discovered they also have a navy yard location. With a sprawling outdoor patio and large indoor space, this location is spectacular especially in the summer when you can relax outside and take in the river views. The bf and I ordered the calamari fritto and were pleasantly surprised by the subtle spice that came through. Definitely recommend ordering if you're a calamari fan-- theirs is a step up from what you'd expect (not to mention it's a generous portion for an appetizer!). We also split the standard pizza. I've always loved All Purpose since I had it for the first time at their Shaw location, so I was super excited when I found out another restaurant opened up close to where I work. I came here with a group of colleagues, and we were pleased to find that there was plentiful indoor and outdoor seating. Their outdoor seating is right along the river, and is really pretty - perfect for every occasion. The best part about All Purpose is obviously the FOOD. Our group of 4 started with 3 apps, and were surprised with 1 complimentary app from the kitchen. We had: Whipped Ricotta, Fried Mozzarella, Prosciutto and Melon, and Cauliflower Fritti. My favorites were definitely the Fried Mozzarella and Cauliflower Fritti. You can't really go wrong with fried cheese of any kind, but you can tell that they use really nice mozz. The cauliflower had such a nice flavor - spicy and tangy with a nice creamy yogurt sauce to balance everything out. If that wasn't enough, we ended up ordering 3 pizzas. The pizzas at All Purpose are too big to be considered personal size pizzas, but are small enough that you won't feel #guilty for being a little greedy. We had the Standard (cheese pizza), Buona (pepperoni pizza with honey and basil), and the Garden State (white pizza with corn, bacon, tomato, chives, basil). All of them were fantastic, but the Buona really stuck out to me. I loved the play on both sweet and salty flavors. I also love how hearty the crust is on all of the pizzas. If you're a crust lover like me, you'll find that All Purpose does them really well. I'm definitely going to be a regular here. We sat on the patio (during a rare break in the DC summer heat) and it overlooks the water and reminded me of chic little outdoor seating in Europe. We were there on a weekday date night, and I saw others like that, but there was also a good mix of groups of friends and families - The food! Good lord, it was all so delicious. We started with the garlic rolls and an order of olives. The garlic rolls were huge and had a slight crust when you bite into it, but then the insides are soft and pillowy. Amazing. The olives were plump and had a delicious olive oil marinade, with hints of citrus and rosemary. We ordered a regular pepperoni pizza (bc my boyfriend is not as adventurous as I am haha) but then ordered a side of feta ranch sauce and a chili aioli sauce and they are to die for. God, I'm drooling now just thinking about it. We ended with the baker to order cookie, which came out warm in a small skillet with some vanilla ice cream. Absolutely delicious, warm and chocolately and melty - The service was great, our server was attentive and friendly, we always had our drinks filled and actually, when we first sat down, he asked us if we preferred sparkling or still water, and added that both were on tap. Had brunch here today and everything was perfect. Service was great. Bloody Mary was the best I've ever had. Spicy and flavorful and the glassware is so simple and classic. Food came out very quickly. I got the baked eggs in tomato sauce in a skillet and partner got prosciutto and cheese pizza with an egg on top. All-Purpose may be my new favorite restaurant, and I plan to bring everyone I know here! I came here for brunch one weekend with a couple of my friends so we could eat on their dog-friendly patio with my friend's pup. The inside was crowded but there was still plenty of space outside and we were seated right away. We decided to order bellinis to start, in addition to sharing an appetizer and a pizza. We went with the Sicilian disco fries to start- they're a bit like patatas bravas but with spicy tomato sauce and fondue cheese, and they were absolutely delicious. We also tried the Jersey Special pizza, which came with sausage, fresh roasted corn, basil, and an egg baked on top. The pizza was also great, and I was a huge fan of the crust. Finally, we decided to top it all off with dessert, as I had heard a lot about their skillet cookie topped with ice cream and sprinkles. It was warm and gooey and everything I could want in a cookie. Our servers were also great, and they were very attentive even though we were seated outside away from the more crowded areas. Additionally, while it was not a casual lunch, the price was fairly reasonable split between three people, though we probably could have also ordered a second pizza and had a few leftovers. Once they arrived, we were able to get a table on the patio, which has a wonderful view of the Potomac. The menu has a nice array of artfully crafted pizzas.
