To celebrate a friend's birthday, we made a reservation for a Wednesday at 6 p.m. simply because they have many gluten-free options for an Italian restaurant. Here's our experience. 1) Food: Before our ordered food came out, a small plate of bread came out. Some of it was soft and other pieces more hard. To start, we ordered the Caesar salad, which was flavorful. It had a more anchovy taste compared to other ones I've had, but it was still good. For our main, we got the lasagna for my nine-year-old daughter, cacio e pepe (which is made at your table), lemon chicken, and gluten-free tagliatelle, lemon, and burrata. Everything was good, but the most impressive is their gluten-free pasta. 2) Drinks: Their menu includes many wines, beer, and cocktails. Enjoying more sweet drinks, I loved the Farfalla Rossa with lychee. It was very refreshing! 3) Service: It was a little hit or miss, but that happens. We've been to the Olio e Più locations in NYC, so we decided to check the DC location for an early dinner. We started off with the Tagliere Napoli focacce (topped with tomato sauce, basil, and mozzarella), the Arancini Tartufa (prepared with arborio rice, mozzarella, and black truffles), the Sicilian Eggplant Caponata (with cherry tomatoes, corstini, and agrodolce), and a Burrata & Figs Primavera salad (with figs, prosciutto crisps, fava beans, and dressed in a fig vanaigrette). I had brunch at Olio e Più last weekend when I was visiting DC for the day. The restaurant is pretty, large, and was not at all busy when I arrived around 10 on a Sunday morning. The service was also great throughout - welcoming, friendly, helpful. However, the food was just okay. The menu is larger than what is on the website, but the dish I tried to order was actually not available. Then I ordered the Omelette Posillipo (diced tomato, mozzarella, and basil), which was unfortunately not a very good omelet. It was very dry - the eggs overcooked, the tomatoes not very fresh, the mozzarella just shredded mozzarella that didn't add any much needed moisture to the dish. French Fries with an omelet wouldn't be my preference, but the fries were better than the omelet. I also ordered a Pinamenta (N/A; pineapple, mint, lemon, lavender, and club soda). It arrived well after my food (something about how they'd had to find the mint), but it was refreshing and a great brunch mocktail. I am a huge fan now of balsamic glaze. A club sandwich was ordered, and they thought it was good. The piccata limone which was terribly overcooked, but my daughter would not mention it to the staff. I rate restaurants within their category and concept. I am not comparing a casual Italian spot to a Michelin star dining experience. If a place charges upscale prices, I expect the food and overall execution to match that level. When it does not, that factors heavily into my rating. We ordered takeout from **Olio e Più** and tried a wide range of items, including the crudo di hamachi, minestrone soup, fritto primavera, two tagliere Napoli, carbonara, cavatelli, branzino, piccata limone, cacio e pepe, and lasagnetta al pesto. The total came out to around $400. I will start by saying this was takeout, so I understand that some dishes do not travel as well. That said, at this price point, I still expect strong flavor and quality across the board. Unfortunately, this meal did not deliver. The crudo di hamachi was particularly disappointing. For $23, it came with four extremely thin slices of fish that lacked depth and flavor. It felt underwhelming and not representative of what you expect from a crudo at that price. The minestrone soup, at $15, was very basic and lacked the kind of seasoning and depth that should come with a well made soup. It was forgettable. The pastas across the board were just ok. The cacio e pepe, lasagnetta al pesto, and carbonara did not stand out and did not have the richness or balance you would expect. The cavatelli was probably the best of the group, but even that was simply decent, nothing memorable. The tagliere Napoli was also very basic, especially considering the pricing. It did not feel curated or elevated in any meaningful way. Overall, that was the theme of the meal. Nothing was outright bad, but nothing justified the price point. When you are charging upscale prices, the food needs to deliver an experience to match. This felt closer to diner level execution than what the menu suggests. To be fair, the service during pickup was friendly and smooth, and I appreciate that. Also, since this was takeout, it is possible the dine in experience is better. Arrived 15 minutes early to see if they'd accommodate, but no luck. Waited 12 minutes to get a drink at the bar. Was seated almost 10 minutes into our reservation. Antipasto Server A eventually arrived with menus and a cold demeanor. After a bit of a bobble ordering (that was on us), the wine charades began. Server B kindly informed us that the bottle we ordered was not available. We chose another, only to have Server A inform us that it was not available -- but that the previously ordered wine was. When we asked why the bottle he returned with was labeled differently he went into explaining that all Sangiovese is Chianti, which we politely accepted without argument. After asking for distinctions between our choice and others and settling on simply characterizing the wine we were hoping for, (Manager?) A showed up with the same bottle, opened it, poured for the taster, filled half the glasses, placed the bottle down, and walked away with hardly a word spoken. Primo Appetizers -- quite good -- came and went without too much drama. There was a mix-up among Servers C & D as to what shaved parm was, while Server E seemed intent on swiftly removing a replacement of table bread that had literally just been set down. Server X removed one person's plate mid-appetizers, leaving them nothing to eat from, though Server Whoever eventually replaced it. Somewhere in the mix, a drink order was forgotten. Not impressive -- and we started to wonder if they were closing soon given all the rushed energy -- but not dramatic. Secondo Maybe the first high note of the dinner: the mains. Branzino was decent, vongole dreadfully bland, with the ravioli and lamb ragù stealing the show. Of course, it had to coincide with the night's nadir, when part of our party witnessed (Kitchen Manager?) A questionably handling dishes while photographing them. I can't verify that what others saw was linked to food that was run to tables -- I'll just say it's something to be mindful of. Contorno With that behind us, the night opened up. A new server arrived -- the first woman of the evening -- to collect remnants for boxes, and was an absolute delight. In barely a minute, she'd broken the cycle of icy non-reception that had defined service thus far, and we perhaps held her at the table a bit too long. Dolce Server A reemerged, chipper now -- thanks, She-Server -- to handle dessert orders (do NOT skip), and tried his best to answer questions about non-menu digestifs. A trip to the bar yielded a similarly vacant response from the bartender, but I had a cognac in hand soon enough. The frenzy fading, the swirl of servers scattered to the wind. Except Server A, who we eventually found having a laugh with one of our party at the server station -- which drew the rest of us over to joke around and say our goodnights. By the end, he was warm, funny, genuinely present. It was the experience the whole evening could have been. Conto I entreat the team leading this place: take stock of the people and moments that make it worth returning to. They revealed themselves, but only just -- and mostly at the end. This "sister restaurant " of La Grande Boucherie was a disappointment. We thought we'd try to pop into La Grande Boucherie for a late lunch at 2:00, but still faced a 35-minute wait so we took the hostess's suggestion to try Olio. It's a charming light-filled space with lovely cherry blossom accents over the bar. We were seated immediately, but then had to wait 10 minutes to get menus and water. The waiter came back fairly quickly to get our order - an appetizer of mortadella and cheeses, and three different sandwiches. The appetizer and drinks came out 10 minutes later and then we waited at least 30 minutes for our sandwiches. My special espresso cherry blossom martini was excellent and the appetizer was good. The sandwiches were ok - all three were dry and not terribly remarkable. Perhaps it's better to order pasta here. In an attempt to end the meal on a good note, we ordered dessert - two Valrhona hot chocolates and lemon sorbet. Again, took an eternity to come out. There was some sort of confusion with the sorbet order; the menu says three scoops but they only brought one. When I attempted to talk to the server about it and make sure they weren't going to charge us $13 for one scoop, he was short with me and kind of snarky. I assume he was tired and overwhelmed because the restaurant was packed and they clearly needed more staff. Still - not the best way to handle a customer question. We made a 6pm reservation for a Thursday evening before a show at the National Theater. (Convenient location, theater lovers!) The restaurant was beautifully decorated inside and out for the holiday season. I forgot to take pictures of the outside, but I looked like a high-end hotel with huge wreaths over the windows and white lights. We noticed it even just driving by looking for parking. Inside, they had white lights, evergreen bows, fresh greenery, which was just warm and inviting. We were just a trio, but I did see long family style seating for large parties of 8 to 10, plus some bar seating, in addition to traditional four-tops. I had the mocha espresso martini, which was a little bitter like other reviewers had mentioned, but I actually liked it that way. My friend brought her daughter with us, and she ordered the nonalcoholic "NON IL FARFALLA ROSA" cocktail made with lychee, cranberry, lemon, and nonalcoholic Prosecco. (See pic with floating flower.) She said she enjoyed it. We started out with the bruschetta as an appetizer. It was two large pieces with burrata, tomato, garlic, basil, and a balsamic drizzle. I think they use a touch of sea salt to make them burrata really pop. It was very tasty. My friend had the TAGLIATELLE DI BOSCO, pasta with mixed mushrooms. Her daughter had the TROFIETTE AL PESTO E FAGIOLINI, pasta with pesto. I was torn between the SPAGHETTI CACIO E PEPE and the PICCATA LIMONE E SALVIA; based on another Yelp review, I ordered the latter. I think I ended up with some "diner's remorse," because it was fine but it was nothing to write home about. The chicken medallions were not very lemony, and the veggies were overcooked and limp. Portion size was OK, but I was glad I had an appetizer because I was still fairly hungry by the end of dinner. My friend and I both had a glass of Pinot Grigio to go with our meals, which was light, sweet, and paired nicely with our entrées. For dessert, my friend and her daughter shared the chocolate mousse and I had the tiramisu. The tiramisu was a good portion, but it wasn't as espresso forward as I personally prefer. But the mascarpone cream tasted a very fresh and fluffy. Our server Christian was friendly and attentive. He fixed our uneven table for us so it stopped wobbling as well. The only true negative would be the noise level inside the dining room. It's an open kitchen and an open dining room and an open bar, all in one space, so it was very loud at times. Difficult to have a quiet, private, or intimate conversation should you want one. We had already gotten excited about the good weather outside so decided to stay there. I went in knowing I'd love to try the carbonara and then probably a salad. I'm not sure what happened, but things felt off with our waiter. I'm not sure the best way to capture what I'm trying to describe, but it felt a little rushed and unwelcoming. I had seen a lot of good things about the pastas on Yelp. My fiancé and I shared the insalata di spinaci and the spaghetti alla carbonara. I really loved the salad. It was simple, but delicious. The carbonara looked really pretty! I wish it had a bit more flavor. At some point the egg began to cook and was too eggy in the wrong way (even with mixing it in beforehand). I came on right when they opened for lunch during RW. I was greeted and seated quickly but there is where the service kind of took a turn. Once seated, I was there for nearly 10 minutes before even getting water. A little bit later, my server came to take my order. They were friendly. No problem there. However, a lunch should not have taken an hour and half. There were delays with everything. For my meal, I chose CRUDO DI SALMONE, SALMONE ARANCIO E PISTACCHIO, and CROSTATA DI ARANCIA SANGUINELLA for my three choices. All were pretty good and made the experience semi-worth the visit. The fennel in my entree was a bit overcooked to the point that I couldn't eat/chew it. So, I discarded that. Disappointing because I love fennel! I did get complimentary bread after sitting for a while but, hey, what could I do. I wont say that I'll never return but I can say that it wont be anytime soon and definitely not dine in during lunch. I've been wanting to try Olio e Piu ever since they opened and we finally got a chance to for weekend brunch. I was especially intrigued by the bottomless mimosas :) The ambiance is wonderful with a sort of modern Italian family bistro type of feel. We started our meal with cheese and charcuterie, which were great. The tallegio was the favorite...so creamy, buttery, and tangy. I also liked that they served it was a indulgent organic honey and olives. The bread was also so good and our server even brought us another plate of bread as we couldn't stop with the delightful cheese and olive oil. After reading copious Yelp reviews we stuck to pasta for our entrees and wow, that was definitely the right move. The carbonara was superb with handmade noodles, a creamy, but not overly heavy sauce. This is a must order! The ravioli was equally delicious and I thought was a more generous serving than expected. I also saw someone order the pesto, which looked great and will be on the top of my list for our next visit. The service was good (not great) due to feeling a bit uneven. At times our server was attentive and helpful and other times absent (when I had an empty drink glass). We paid with Inkind, which was super easy. Overall we had a great brunch and would definitely return. Although it is in a highly touristy location, the pasta dishes are definitely worth the trip! read more

Ambiance: old Italian charm that takes you overseas to a nice Italian restaurant Service: company lunch. We came in at 11am so we were the first table. It got busy around noon and by 1pm most of the restaurant was pretty full. Excellent service! We didn't feel rushed and our water was never empty. Our waiter came by after we got our food and see if everything was ok. Food: there were no complaints of the amount of quality of the food. I got the ragu and the panna cotta. I would say, I had no idea what panna cotta was but I ordered because of the vanilla bourbon, pineapple and passion fruit puree. Let me tell you - this was the BEST DESSERT I've had in a LONG TIME. It was light and the tropical fruit puree was spot on. My coworker was like "you don't look like you wanna share.." I didn't LOL. Love olio e piu and have gone frequently since they opened this DC location. I often crave their carbonara, so this is my go-to suggestion for a work lunch near the office. I've also come on my own dime for dinner before shows at the National Theatre, which is just a block away. The aesthetic is always lovely and can confirm they add an elegant christmas-y touch to the decor for the holidays. For food, I usually get the carbonara and split a bottle of white wine; I also enjoy their Cacio e Pepe that they prep tableside in a cheese wheel, and recommend the chocolate mousse or tiramisu for dessert read more

Came here a few weeks ago for my boyfriend's birthday. The service was amazing. They were very friendly and helpful. The ambiance was beautiful for the holiday. We ordered the charcuterie and RAVIOLI DI SHORT RIBS AL RAGÙ. The charcuterie was good. The short ribs Al ragu were amazing. The short ribs were tender. The dish was flavorful. Christmas decor was beautiful! Do yourself a favor and skip the octopus appetizer. It was honestly a joke for the price. Paper thin pieces of octopus lined tv plate, making for a grand total of about 4 bites for a whopping $27?? Menu should've mentioned how it would be more carpaccio style. The carbonara was not great considering how it's their signature dish. It tasted mainly of pasta water and we had to ask for extra cheese and pepper flakes to get some flavor in there. The red sauce pasta was way better and fuller bodied. Chocolate mousse was presented beautifully and tasted good to end off the meal. + points for gifting us a lovely signed coffee table book for our anniversary but food could use a little work read more

Not sure if it's because of the time we went but unfortunately was not a good experience. We were hoping to get the end of the lunch deal which advertised as cutting off at 4pm. We arrived around 3:35, they gave us the lunch menus and dinner menus but when we tried to order from it and asked about the lunch prixe fixe they said it was too late actually and took away the lunch menus. Most place cut off orders by the time advertised but not a big deal - but weird they even gave us the lunch menus in the first place then. We knew we were close to the cut off time so not a big deal and we ordered off the dinner menus. Throughout our entire stay though, even though there were barely any customers it was hard to find our waitress to even place our orders and get our check when we finished. Honestly, I'm more into food so even if service was not great, if food is good I don't really care. But even the food was just very eh.. Crudo di salmone - sliced extremely thin and tiny portion compared to the price. It tasted decent though but since it's thin you're not getting much salmon flavor 2.75/5 Polpo in cassetta - also sliced extremely thin but that kept the octopus tender and the octopus had a pretty strong flavor. Pretty good but oily 3/5 FUSILLI CINGHIALE E FUNGHI - best of 3 pastas but still just eh. It comes warm.. not hot. Some pieces of meet were nice and some were too chewy. 3/5 RAVIOLI DI SHORT RIBS AL RAGÙ - like room temp when it came out. Not bad but nothing special either. Sauce is not that flavorful and filling the same 2/5 SPAGHETTI CACIO E PEPE - it said it would be prepared tableside so we were looking forward to that. They asked us before any of the pasta were served if we wanted all 3 to be served at once or since the other 2 were ready but this one would take longer, we would like the other 2 to come out first. We asked for the other 2 first and basically less than 2 minutes after they gave us the first 2 they dropped off the spaghetti with no explanation at our table. We were confused since we were just told it would take longer and also it's supposed to come with presentation so we flagged down the waitress to double check and she said that actually the guy who does the presentation was not here yet but it's ready to eat . But if we wanted to be show we can wait for him but since cheese was already mixed in it would be extremely cheesy. I wish they asked us before making it so we could properly decide and it sounds like he was only going to take a couple minutes to come which wouldn't have been an issue at all. Five stars for food but one star for service omg! The service was so slow and horrible between every single course and even when we were waiting for water, it was a Sunday night before 6 PM and it wasn't even that busy although they had a few tables, but there were many tables that were open and we were waiting just forever! The interior is very cute for the holidays, but the lights were so bright until they dimmed them. The food was excellent! I absolutely loved the focaccia appetizer with the tomato sauce and mozzarella. It was like a mini pizza and you will definitely have leftovers and you could tell that it was homemade and so fresh! I also love the Caesar salad, simple but delicious. I also tried the Pasta with truffles which was a gnocchi dish. This dish was very rich, but delicious pillows of pasta and you could tell that they also were made fresh at the restaurant! I could only eat about half of this. I also shared the chocolate mousse dessert, which was incredible! I would totally be back, but I hope that they improve their service. read more

Olio e Più was one of the most pleasant surprises i've had in a long time. truth be told, i was eyeing the french restaurant next door. i don't know if you've ever experienced this or not but the second i opened the doors i knew the place wasn't for me. so i literally went next door to this italian spot and found a gem! so much so that i ate here three days in a row! there's a wonderful electric energy to this place. the music is great but the staff are hands down amazing. the service manager was exceptional as she handled the crowds with grace and understanding. i struck up such a great bond with the bartender that she ultimately decided to what i was eating over the course of the days i went. everything was amazing! from the salmon, to the pasta, to the wine/drink pairings. it was all 10/10! next time i'm in DC i absolutely MUST come back. read more
