I wish I could give this 4.5 stars, alas. The food is good and I love the location, and service has always been good. I recently got the buona pizza and absolutely loved it- the spicy honey is perfection and the crust is great. Given that I don't usually eat a whole one (can make it into two meals) $22 isn't terrible, but if you're hungry you could easily kill it on your own which makes it a little pricey for what it is. Hence four stars because I do hesitate to go, because if you add a drink, you're gonna be paying $40 (w tax and tip included) for a very casual meal. read more

Great location that sits near the water. We sat outside and enjoyed a great breeze but the mosquitos were out feasting on my legs. Anyway, for the prices on the menu and added 20% gratuity I really expected better food. The arancini as well as the calamari was no bueno. No flavor with the calamari and breading was cornmeal which made the taste even worse. The arancini was stuffed with big thick rice and cheese. Not what I was expecting. I sent It back. The pizza wasn't great, but It wasn't bad. I can do without honey on my pizza from here on out. The pizza was also paper thin. We waited about an half hour for the pizza to come out due to our waiter never putting our order in. He did however comp our next round of drinks. A perfect mommy and son date consist of wood fire pizza and salad @allpurposedc down by the water in one of our favorite parts of DC, Yards Park. The staff was super friendly and very attentive. Even the boys complimented them on how well they were taking care of us. Next we finished dinner with one of my favorite desserts, a warm cookie skillet with ice cream on top. The cookie was cooked just right. Crispy around the edges but soft and gooey in the middle, the absolute best. Then we walked off some of those dessert and pizza calories by enjoying a stroll down the river and back. Lastly, we ended our evening at the movies with the Minnions and a movie favorite, a red and blue Icey. Good time with my favorite little guys! I enjoy All-Purpose. I've been to this location a few times and was surprised by liking their pizza, as I hadn't in the past. It's a great location with an awesome view. Staff has been excellent each time. I like that they offer covered, heated outdoor dining in the cooler months, but my favorite thing about this place is their roof deck. It's small but has excellent views (do note the roof has a few flights of stairs, so it's not accessible). Generally at All-Purpose, I'm drinking their Aperol spritz. It's one of my favorite drinks and they make a really good version here. That's all I've ever had at this location, libation-wise. I tried their Sedgewick pizza, which is whipped ricotta, mozzarella, taleggio, parmesan, black truffle honey, and chives, and it is excellent. It's super cheesy, but with a nice bit of sweetness for balance. I've also had The Standard, which is tomatoes, mozzarella, oregano, and Grano Padano. All-Purpose has an excellent happy hour, and this pizza is part of that (so is the spritz), which is great. This pizza has a great crust and great flavor. Amazing choice!!!! First of all the service was good. It was super fast! And they let us sit outside even though it was drizzling. I have no complaints. And the ambiance was great!! I loved the view. The outside seating is right on the river and you can see the river and the bridge. Great experience. Also, the pizzas were really good! I loved them. I liked the crust, the sauce, and the toppings. All Purpose is a great place for happy hour or to enjoy before a game at Audi or Nats Park! Location is right on the waterfront and has great people watching! They have an area within the outdoor patio that is just for their happy hour menu which is kinda weird, and it's first come first served, so even if you make a reservation, you won't be getting the happy hour prices unless you're in that specific section. You also HAVE to order off the QR code with no other options. Luckily I had my phone but my boyfriend was frustrated bc he couldn't figure out how to make it work (LOL). I saw another couple asking the waitress to please allow them to order through her because they didn't have their phones, and when she said no, they left! I get that it cuts down on staff and makes things easier for the restaurant, but not having another option is obviously losing them customers. Either way, they have good prices for happy hour wine and their pizza is pretty awesome! I'm sure we'll be back, and will make double sure we have our phones! read more

"All Purpose" is located along the Anacostia River and offers both inside and outside dining. I started with fried mozzarella and it was decent. At first I thought it might be triangle fish or hash browns because, well, it was a fried triangle. But it wasn't bad. I ordered the 12" BUONA pizza, which is basically tomato, mozz, pepperoni, grana padano,Calabrian chili honey, fresh basil for $22. I also added mushrooms for the simple reason of NOT wanting to order the exact same menu items as my buddy Justin. Overall the pizza was good, but not worth writing home about or doing cartwheels down the boardwalk over. No issues with customer service. Our waiter was great and we didn't wait too long for our food. But, why only three stars? The food was slightly better than average. What sets me off is a restaurant that automatically adds 20% gratuity. Personally, that's BS. I tip according to how well or poorly the service is. The bottom of the menu, in bold, states "There is a 20% service charge added to bills, 100% of which gets distributed amongst all of our staff. We appreciate your support and understanding!" Now here's the way I look at this. If management cared as much about their staff as they do forcing a pre-determined tip on their customers, they would pay their staff better. NOT expect the customers to cover staff wages. Restaurants do this (enforce tipping) because they're cheap and are looking out for their bottom line, not because they actually care about their staff. Although, the glass half full side of me thinks, I should be grateful for them saving me money because I would've tipped at least $20. Stopped in during a slow time to check the place out. Great salad. For me, simple is better when I order a salad with pizza. Just greens, a great vinegar dressing and Parmesan cheese. I loved it. The pizza I ordered was the bueno or buona pizza, something like that. I loved it. The honey and chili oil added sweetness to the bite. We went on Saturday afternoon on Memorial Day weekend. At 4p they were slow. That worked well for us. No waiting. Well, they were slow in the dining room, but they were busy on the rooftop deck. The host seated us promptly. It was difficult to get service. We waited and waited. No server. We had to approach the bartender to get service The bartender was great (and we were not sitting at the bar. He served us our soft drinks, and the manager served us water). Finally, a server appeared. Having already reviewed the menu, we were ready to order, and we did. The kitchen was not as slow as the waitstaff. The dining room was nice and pleasant. Quiet, but rather empty. I did notice what appeared to be some sound baffles in the ceiling, so maybe when the dining room is full, it still won't be too loud. No, let's talk about the pizza. One word...scrumptious. Wow, was it delicious. Holy cow. I wanted more and more. Take note that they only offer one size, 12". Pizza - really good. Service - bare minimal if you can call a server not saying anything just bringing food after ordering via QR code. Drinks - hot garbage. My Moscow mule had a gross mint leaf in it and it was very bitter. My wife got the French 75 and pictured is it full and it also wasn't good. Both drinks were $12 each ($10 happy hour special plus the INCLUDED 20% service charge) was way too expensive for how little you get and a surcharge for no service whatsoever is ridiculous. If your group is really hungry, I'd get one pizza per person, mostly so that you can try multiple pizza topping combinations. Make sure you read all the ingredients on the pizza menu--one of them does not have cheese (Sicilian Marinara). Their beer and cocktail list is amazing! One of their cocktails even has ube in it! We also had the Brussel sprouts and the were also flavorful and crispy. The location is awesome! Right on the water, with great views of the Frederick Douglas Memorial Bridge. We decided to sit under the tented area. The tent is fully enclosed with gaps still for air flow. Each table has a heater, which was needed on this chilly day despite the sunshine. Service was a bit slow to start but once other people joined us at other tables in the tent we got more attention. I had the Mt. Elna Mule and several eggnogs. Tasty! read more

Anyways, the service here was questionable at best. The server took forever to even come to our table and we almost walked out. Additionally, when we finally ordered, our meal came like 20 minutes before our drinks? I've never had that happen before except when The waiter generally forgot to put in our order and they would unusually comp the drink. Needless to say, they didn't comp anything despite really bad service. The pizza itself was okay. I went here with my boyfriend during winter restaurant week. We had such a good time! It is an upper-scale pizza restaurant that is family-friendly. They offered three courses for $40. My favorites were the Buona pizza and the chocolate chip cookie ( so warm and gooey). The Buona pizza was perfectly balanced with chili honey. We also got the feta ranch on the side which was not too heavy. [Coronavirus review] Here's a place that I think is really hit by corona. It's an expensive pizza, even compared to other highbrow personal pizzas in DC, and I suspect their selling points are ambiance and location. However, as a takeout-only business they currently have no ambiance and the location next to the baseball stadium currently bereft of our championship team isn't exactly helping. They've adapted by adding a grocery section and selling masks and hand sanitizer to the local community; I suspect this area has a decent number of car-free people who really value it. In the long run, though, it's going to be tough for this restaurant, and I hope they and many others find a way. The pizza I enjoyed, but I struggled to see it as being worthwhile in and of itself. Upon opening the box, it just looked small. The cheese blend had an appealing sharpness and complexity to it and bubbled perfectly in spots, and I liked it, but not more than a bunch of others I could name. I added a calabrian chili "dippie"; many places offer this as a topping but having it to dip was nice. Still, I couldn't convince myself that any of this was worth driving down here, finding a parking spot, and paying $25 for (a plain pizza plus a dipping sauce with tax and an included service charge). My other knock against them is the limitations of the menu; they offer a few pizza toppings but not much that impressed me, and their selection of non-pizza items is limited and vegetarian-unfriendly (notably, Sicilian hot sauce has anchovy in it); and really not much for other special dietary needs. The menu at the other location in Shaw has a tad more variety at present, but again, I see nothing that compares with Timber's killer salads or Frankly Pizza's house sodas or Menomale's cheese hummus and desserts. So I can only say that I hope one day the riverfront is vibrant and active again and I find myself drawn to stop by in person, but I don't feel that it's great takeout. read more

We ordered the Buono pizza, which was a thin pepperoni pizza served very hot. The pizza itself was good, but not large or filling enough to be worth the $26 charge for it (which includes a mandatory 20% service fee, and then tax on top of that). It could probably feed 2 medium-hungry people. The water they provided had something floating in it also. Location was very nice with access to the waterfront. Finally made it here for Birthday Dinner for the first time. Had dinner reservations with a couple of friends, we were sat immediately at our reservation time despite the restaurant being packed at 6pm on a Sunday. One member of our party was running late, and we still didn't have to wait for anything. The prosciutto & fried mozarellea apps were great. The specialty cocktails were delightful. I had the linguine with clams and the portion was exactly perfect for what i wanted, not too much that I needed to take some home. The Cap Riverfront location is pretty new and at 5:30pm, we had our table's pick inside in a quiet corner which was nice. We started with an Aperol spritz (so good), wine for my husband, a bruschetta app (a very fresh take on a classic with peas, etc) and then for the main had a Caesar and tried our servers recommendation for the Buona + bacon. The service here was great and the ambience was awesome. However, I did not love what I ordered. The pizza was very burned on the bottom which to me took away from the flavor. The frozen drink was just okay it looked a lot prettier than it tasted. I also had the arenchini and it was also just okay. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that part of my experience was that it was incredibly hot outside, and I chose to sit out on the patio and as someone who does not do well in heat that could've negatively impacted my experience. It was a very nice clean restaurant with friendly service. The food and drinks or just OK in my opinion not outstanding. I wouldn't rule it out for coming back to give it a second try as I've heard people rave about it and it is a beautiful patio. I would have to try it in the fall on a cooler day! read more
