I was told one price which of course was an estimate but then after learning that I owned the place and wasn't a renter, all of a sudden the prices changes and they tried to sell me stuff I didn't need. The basic items I eventually paid for because I needed locks asap cost about $450.00!!! This was a HUGE jump from the $300 I was initially quoted over the phone. Called to get further explanation twice and both times they said "we'll get the tech who did the job to call you back to explain". Guess what - never got a call back. Joey was a knowledgeable professional who quickly solved my problem. I was having problems with the mortise lock on my front door and expected that I would have to get a whole system. I sent Joey pictures via email and ended up taking the lock into Joey's shop and after giving the whole thing an examination, Joey discovered that whoever had installed the mortise lock had used the wrong spindle. He cut me the correct piece, oiled up the whole mortise lock, and gave me a tutorial on how to easily reinstall it. After about an hour and just about $60 bucks, my front door is totally functional and working like new. read more

Just moved into a new building, and needed to replace the non-working deadbolt, and a busted knob/latch after accidentally locking myself in my new apartment (which required taking the knob off and breaking myself out of my apartment). Setup an appointment for Monday morning, he called and said he could come early, and did come 15 minute early. He worked quickly and installed new locks and mechanisms which should last for a long time. Tried to up-sell me on some higher quality stuff, I didn't bite (but I don't begrudge the guy trying). Great service, quality work. Of course it isn't the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. read more

The locksmith (Chris) showed up relatively quickly and gave me a full explanation of the locks etc. He even gave me a little info on the neighborhood & Brooklyn (since I'm new.) I was cat sitting and locked myself out of my friends apartment with nothing but my cell phone. I figured the best course of action would be to call a locksmith. I had originally called a different locksmith. $300 later, that locksmith popped open the door, damaging a very expensive Medeco Mul-T-Lock in the process. My friends were unreachable and they weren't going to be back for a few days, so I was naturally very distressed at the prospect of not being able to lock their door. All Star is located just a few blocks from the apartment so I thought I'd try them and see if they could get it working again. I spoke with Joey and explained what happened. He asked me to email the photos and videos I had so he could get a better idea of what the lock was doing. He told me to come by the store the next day and he'd come back to the apartment with me and take a look at it. He worked on it for a while and he managed to get the lock working again. It's very stressful and upsetting to be locked out of an apartment particularly when you've been entrusted to mind it. It's hard to feel like you can trust someone to not take advantage of the situation when you find yourself in such a vulnerable position. Joey is just such a nice guy. He was beyond helpful, kind, and professional. I wish I had called him from the get-go. If you should ever find yourself in this unfortunate situation, do not hesitate to give All Star a call. Honestly this company is a lifesaver. We got home tonight at 3 a.m. only to find that our dog sitter for the day had locked us out. We called this company and someone showed up in 20 minutes. The man that came was the definition of cool, calm, and collected. He opened the door without even having to drill it. Our dog inside was barking the whole time and jumped on him out of excitement when he opened it and he didn't seem startled in the least. This process was so quick and painless. If you do any local research at all, you will find a litany of terrible reviews about this awful company. I recently had my first (and last) experience with this company via my landlord (who will not be hiring them again either). Extremely poor service (no shows, slow, shoddy work), no follow-up (they disappeared after doing a bad job and never pickup their phone or call again), no return of phone calls requesting that they fix the job they botched (despite claiming that they return calls in 10 (!) minutes after you leave a message (I left three and have yet to hear from them - two weeks later)) - all just as described in many places online. If by open 24 hours you mean you call at 10am, get forwarded to voicemail after a few rings then go directly to voicemail when you call back ... then yes they are open 24 hours. This is the worst experience I have ever had with a business and its owner. Because we had security concerns in my apartment, we asked him to install a new deadbolt and replace the current lock with a more secure one. After we inspected the work that evening, we found that the door handle was extremely loose where it jiggled and a screwdriver could easily fit between the door and handle. It never did that before. We were very concerned that it wasn't installed correctly and someone could break in. We called the owner Joe to come back and fix his work. He refused to even come back without charging us another $45 service fee. What kind of customer service is this?!? Bottom line, we weren't happy with the work and as a locksmith who stands behind his work, he should at least check on the lock and reassure us the work was done correctly. Not only did he not do that, he said we were to blame for the loose door handles and that "we were living in a fantasy world" and hung up the phone! Absolutely unacceptable. Now we need to hire another locksmith to fix it. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

Totally overpriced. stay away. said the bolt was going to cost $125 per lock, then added this and that and in the end it came out to over $900 for two locks. Charged me alone $150 for just putting a metal plate which should have cost more like $25. Outrageous. read more

I called several locksmiths in the area for help unlocking a small safe. Many locksmiths tried to rip me off and charge me $200 to unlock it, or they didn't have a store for me to come to, they insisted on traveling to my home unnecessarily. Joey at Allstar was the ONLY locksmith in the area that charged me a reasonable price ($25), and had a location I could travel to. I made an appointment, and he was very helpful and was able to unlock my safe. Just as I had given up hope, Allstar came to the rescue!! read more

I needed to change the cylinder on the lock in my new apartment, and All Star sent Chris the locksmith. He was great - on time, super nice, did the job quickly. A few days later I found myself locked in my apartment (something malfunctioned on a lock that he hadn't worked on), and I called them back up. Within about 10 minutes, Chris called me and tried to talk me through dealing with the lock myself. I didn't have the right tools in my apartment, so in about another 10 minutes he came over - on a Friday night in the rain, no less - and fixed the lock and got me out. I would definitely recommend All Star since they were so quick and Chris kept me from going into full on panic mode when I got stuck! read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I should have payed attention to the reviews, but I actually had success with this company once, only to find return business isn't always a promise of good things to come. A very rude and condescending service person showed up to our place for an appointment made days in advance. He quoted prices that were grossly inflated from our last purchase, tried to sell us security when we kept trying to keep him on track for re-keying locks, told us he didn't even have the proper equipment to do the job (????) and said it wouldn't be available until Monday, which is a holiday, so he was wrong about that, and when we told him we had receipts showing his price quotes were outrageous and very inflated from the last service, he rudely told us to "fine. get them". I thought to myself "that sounded a bit confrontational" I mean we are talking double the last visit and I'm sure he smelled money and sized us up as being able to afford it, which is why he inflated the cost. Feeling distrust already, I thought who cares if I get a better price, I STILL don't want to do business with this guy. He seemed very sketchy. At this point we'd had enough and I told him to "hit the road". He promptly left, then sat in his van for 5 minutes on the phone before returning. He then informed us his boss said we owed them $45 for the visit! Now, we would totally pay any visitation fees quoted at the time the appointment was made, there was never a discussion of a visitation fee. EVER. As a matter of fact we never even spoke to the owner, we called the number for the last techinician that came by and got the one that showed up that day. So if it WAS policy, he didn't do his job to tell us about the fee when we called. This guy was so mad we told him to leave that he called his boss and he decided we owed him. He even threatened to call the cops, so I did it for him. And he even said they would believe him over me because he was a locksmith!? I called his boss after calling the cops and from speaking to his boss, I was sure he decided to charge us $45 because he thought I was rude. Turns out the employee quoted me to his boss when I told him to "take a hike". When I said he never told me about a fee for the visit, his reply was "well, you were rude". I told the owner his karma would be bad for trying to sell off a lie to the cops. No business in this economy should be in the business of dishonesty. Needless to say, his worker drove off minutes later. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE "FRIENDLY RESPONSE FROM THE OWNER I spoke to him directly today and he was so very rude. I had a very interesting experience with All Star Locksmith. It's not worth going into all the details but let's just say we had a disagreement on the price of some work that was done on my car ignition. Joey the owner spent a couple of weeks dealing with my insistence that the charges weren't correct. In short, I was a pain in the ass. I believe we both had valid viewpoints and I feel that we both felt pretty strongly about it. In the end Joey returned the money I felt I was owed and did so with professionalism and dignity, the kind of dignity that makes you believe that people are inherently good. In my case I believe it wasn't actually Joey's fault but the guy who came out to service the call. It could very well be that Joey contracts jobs to independent locksmiths, I'm not entirely sure. This guy was a bad egg, he saw an opportunity to overcharge and went for it. So the lesson here is to be very specific in what service you are ordering and be vigilant about paying attention to the work being done. Joey is a stand up guy and All Star Locksmith and Hardware is an asset to Brooklyn. read more
