Two days after I got the truck back, I started cross country to the Midwest. The truck performed better than it ever did since new, going across the Rockies. October 23, 2019 Sad to report I am VERY unhappy with the work done by Cottman. Had to have it back in the shop a second time. This time I'm in Toledo Oh at Earl Brothers Transmission. They found the work done at Cottman with several problems 1. The bolt holding internal filter was an SAE thread instead of metric. Had to drill out and tap new threads. 2. The bolt was loose so the filter was loose. Filter seal had to be replaced. 3. Transmission pan was almost impossible to remove because of excessive sealant, far beyond factory specs. Stay tuned for further problems as I do a REAL road test in the following weeks. I'm pessimistic!!!

I don't remember who I spoke with, but you'll certainly know him as he has the biggest nose in All of the state of Washington. He goes on to do a preservice, which involved using the OBD2 scanner to diagnose the issues. From that alone he was able to deduct that I needed a whole new transmission. The genius with "35 years of transmission experience" was able to conclude with one simple computer scan that I needed a whole new transmission. The issue? I had to drive to Las Vegas that night, which entailed 900+ miles straight. I was told that I would never make it home to vegas and that this was something I needed to do. Yeah my ass. Long story short I end up driving home and the check engine light goes away. While researching the issue on my own, I was able to conclude that the codes my car gave me showed zero signs of a fatal transmission error. The problem was actually quite simple. I would go here if I had the quoted 9 grand to spend, but otherwise, you are better off doing your own research or trusting a business that intends to take care of you. And this is absolutely not one of them.

As I said, I'm not a mechanic in any way so Mike helped me and explained that the pickup did need a new transfer case, but that the transmission looked good. I was quoted a price of $1700 to replace a bad transmission in my old Mazda 323…read more After dropping my car off and putting $1000 down on the repair in advance they removed my old transmission and then informed me that it was going to cost $4000 and I needed to give them an additional $1000 for them to order a new transmission for the vehicle. I paid a total of $500 plus registration for this car and it wasn't worth $1000 in running condition. I decided not to go forward with the repair. The suddenly nasty woman running the place refused to refund any of the money I had put down, threatened me about removing the car from her property within 72 hours or else I would face charges for something vaguely legal sounding and tried to tell me she was doing me a favor returning this vehicle to me with the old transmission in a box in the back of the car. I wish I had the time and the money to take her to court at the time. I was polite, professional and kindly throughout our entire interaction and ended up getting ripped off for $1000, had to arrange a tow for a nonoperational vehicle and got to listen to a ration of crap from an incredibly nasty wretch of a manager for my trouble. This was several years ago and I am still furious with AAMCO over this incident. Other people I have talked to have been ripped off with bait and switch incidents similar to mine and had experienced similar attitude from employees once you stop handling your credit card over without questions. I will NEVER go to AAMCO for anything and if anyone needs ammo for a lawsuit I'd be happy to testify about my experience and I can provide invoices that back up my story. AAMCO is terrible. Take your money elsewhere.

The guys are always quick to get you in and started on your oil change. On one occasion, I needed a headlamp light bulb replaced and the manager told me they did not carry light bulbs but that if I secured the light bulb they would be happy to swap out the burned out light bulb. After my oil change I popped over to the Auto Zone and picked up the light bulb and returned to the Grease Monkey location and they quickly replaced my bulb free of charge. Now that is great customer service! What impressed me the most is that they perform the services you ask and are not trying to up sell you on services you don't really need. With inflation and rising costs everywhere it is good to know where to get honest reliable service for your vehicles.
