Run! Run! This guy is a big rip off. I took my car to him after it was diagnosed at another shop because he specializes in Honda. I told him I wanted the air conditioner unit replaced and a new serpentine belt. He called with a price and I authorized it and when I went to pay I discovered he added 600.00 for diagonistic. He never told me about this charge when I dropped my car off. I should have got it in writing before I let him work on it I am an elderly women and he saw me coming and took advantage. I offered to split the difference with him but he refused. Lesson learned Watch out for this guy. I asked him to check out the dash that was not working he didn't even look up the codes and told me to take it to a dealership. I wished I had done it from the start. 600.00 is a lot of money for a senior on social security.Shame on this business read more

Munson's independent Auto It actually pains me to write this review because I've been a customer for over two decades and have had really great service. However, that has all changed. I will never bring another car back to this place and they will not get one more dollar. We brought our pilot in for a parasitic draw. We literally left that on a note for them to check out. They said they tested everything (battery/alternator). I said did you drive it around? turn it on turn it off, etc. they said yes they even kept it overnight tested in the morning and they said everything came back good. I showed up just before they closed at 4 o'clock and had my son drive the car 3.5 miles to the rental car place (straight down 4th plain) because we were dropping off a rental car only to have the car (pilot) die right there in the parking lot and not even being able to be jumped. This was extremely frustrating, especially after I told them that there was an issue so basically from what I gather all they did was charge the battery which I did at home and it was able to start one time. I don't think they did any relevant/ or proper testing on the car which I basically just burned up $100. That's fine living and learning I guess. What's very frustrating is trying to find a good honest shop that does good quality work and like I said we have brought all of our cars there going all the way back to the early 2000s And even before that so they have lost me as a lifetime customer and I would recommend if you have any electrical issues to not have the shop do it unless you want to be stranded and have your car towed to another place that can figure it out. There was no communication there was no Customer service... Not even a call that would apologize or willing to take care of the issue after they said that they had tried to fix it unfortunately, Munson's is no longer a top shop. Don't go here... read more

Munson's was very knowledgeable and diagnosed my problem quickly! Unfortunately it was out of my price range which is not their fault. My van needed a new ac compressor. I had them vacuum the refrigerant and they did a great job. So they diagnosed and vacuumed the refrigerant for me from my ac compressor. I'll always check th them first before doing the job myself. They know their Hondas! My AC is back to being ice cold just in time to take the family to Sun River! Thanks Munson's for figuring out the issue quick! read more

I took my Toyota in for a door lock repair. The mechanic, Brad called me with a estimate of $700. Apparently Toyota only sells the entire door lock assembly and the price is nearly $500. I told him I could live with the inconvenience of the door not locking rather than spending that much money. When I picked the car up I was told "NO CHARGE" What a pleasant surprise. If I had taken it to Vancouver Toyota, It would have cost $110.00 for diagnostics! read more

I had taken my car to two other repair shops to diagnose the problem. I had a terrible shimmy when I broke. I was told two different things from the two shops. Both quotes were hundreds of dollars, one nearly $1000.00. I decided to check out Munson's and they got me right in this morning. By noon I received a call that they figured out the problem and could do the work. (My front rotors were warped and needed to be replaced). The quote was reasonable and much less than the other two. One place told me I needed a new front end... I was very pleased with the service and the price was more than fair. I drove home and was delighted to know the problem was fixed! Well, Autumn - of Autumn's Auto Lube - recommended this firm to me, and since Autumn has done a spectacular job with all my cars for the four years I've been here, I should have listened. Instead, I took my car to a nearby shop, which shall remain nameless, to havee my air conditioning in my 2004 Toyota Solara repaired. The next day and about $400 later, it seemed to work well, and they gave me a five page recommendation that I have about another $5000 dollars worth of obviously overpriced and strictly future maintenance work done. Three weeks later the A/C stopped working. Here's where Munson's comes in. I went there and they replaced the "cheap" part the earlier shop had used with a better and more reliable one, and viola! the air is cool again. They were pleasant and kind, and, ready for this? They charged me for the part and taxes - about $30 - not even labor!!! The only wait was for the arrival of the new part and out the same day! I guess I know where all my future repairs are going. When you find someone you can really trust you stick with them - like Autumn's and Munson's - and I'm recommending Munson's with a 5-star(+) rating. read more

Been using Munson's for the last 15 years on multiple Hondas. Had my 2008 Accord freak out on me and had to have it towed. Munson checked it out and informed me of a class action lawsuit decision that required the dealership to extend the warranty of my car. They made my car driveable enough to get it to the dealership where I had over $2,000 worth if warranty work done. They even printed off the lawsuit info for me to take with!! Munson's could have just diagnosed the problems and fixed them and I would have been none the wiser. Highly recommend these guys for any Honda or Toyota repair. read more

They've done routine service and major repairs ( transmission ) flawlessly. On one occasion there were problems with the power steering. I was surprised when they said it was only a belt because there was no squealing to suggest it. They adjusted the belt for NO CHARGE! I even asked whether a new belt was needed and they said they thought the old one would be fine for a couple years. Owner called me, but to ask why I wrote the review I had. I'm never disgruntled without cause. I took my car to a nearby shop and got a second opinion. I was told to get a power steering pump, a power steering rack, a serpentine belt, and new filters by Munson's Automotive. Upon the second opinion, with a local shop in Vancouver, I was told I didn't need a power steering pump, nor a power steering rack, that the belt was tight, and the filters were clean. The second shop topped off the power steering fluid, and that got rid of the whine. Sure, there's a small leak from the rack, but I was not about to pay repairs the quote I got from Munson's - $3600.00 Come the F%#$ on. I dropped off my car at Randy's Tires and got the second opinion I needed. I'm not okay with high padded estimates and that's what I received at Munson Automotive. I'm a very honest woman, and expect to be treated the same. Invariably, when shopping for a good, honest mechanic, tech, they see me and all of a sudden the dollar signs go up and through the window. Not happy with the dealerships and my local mechanics since Honda of St Johns sold out. Rough idle on my low miler 2001 Odyssey, engine occasionally missing. One Thursday the engine light came on while on the freeway and it began stalling at stoplights. Found Munsons on angies at 4 PM, checked them on Yelp, they got me in to read the computer codes at about 4:50, reassured me that it wasn't anything major. Car ran reasonably well over the weekend They got me in right away Monday (van now running smoothly of course) and then took the time to reproduce and fix the intermittent EGR valve problem. I also had service done. They made sensible service suggestions taking into consideration both the age and low miles. I trained as a mechanic many years back and am reasonably knowledgeable about modern engines. I prefer to use a mechanic who specializes in a particular make. Munsons was straightforward, sensible, did not upsell, and clearly knows Hondas very well. Those other reviewers were right. Munsons is outstanding. I live a long drive away in Portland. I will continue to use Munson's as long as I own Hondas and Toyotas (the only cars I own.) read more

Worst customer service ever. Argumentative, condescending, rude and completely unwilling to admit any wrongdoing on their part. Put spark plugs in without authorization and would rather argue and lose a customer over $40 then take a positive customer service approach and realize maybe there was a miscommunication on their part. The receptionist actually yelled at me and is one of the rudest people I have ever encountered. And conveniently they "cannot find" a receipt to honor a warranty. Unless you enjoy rude people and overpriced work, do not use these people. I find it funny that now all-of-a-sudden after our honest review there is a "good" one. Hmmm wonder who wrote it. read more

Last year we dealt with the owner who we had a great experience with, unfortunately this time we dealt with a receptionist who was the rudest person we have ever seen. She refused to listen and understand our point-of-view and just argued with us. She sets a bad example for the mechanics and when we asked the mechanic why he did not get back to us like he said, he proceeded to argue too! She needs customer service training because she has no clue how to work with the public. It was more important to her to be right than to listen and her approach was almost unbelievable. She sets a negative tone for the entire business and instead of working with us over $40 when we have spent over $1600 in 9 months at their establishment, she would rather raise her voice and lose customers. read more

Munson's has serviced all of our Honda's for years. One of our first experiences was with a noisy power steering pump which he diagnosed as a loose belt and which he tightened for FREE! They didn't even try to sell us a new belt. Since then, we've had him do a variety of jobs ranging from transmission repairs to bulb replacement. Each time, the work is done right the first time and there are never any surprises. They specialize and have years of experience on Hondas and Toyotas so diagnosis is fast and accurate by drawing on their extensive knowledge. I contacted Munson's by phone because my 2013 Honda CRV was showing a maintenance light and an error code of B1 ( The Car has 13,000 miles ) I was quoted $40-$50 over the phone for a "B1" service, so I made an appointment for the following day. When I showed up for my appointment the receptionist ask if I would need my tires rotated (part of the B1 service) I said yes. I waited in the waiting room and about an hour later they called me to say the service was finished and that the charges would be $162.06 for an oil change, tires rotated and a transmission service. When I asked why a car with only 13,000 needed a transmission service they said that the computer reported an error code of B13. I had looked at the code just before I brought the vehicle in and the code was B1 NOT B13. I complained that they had not asked me before doing the service and that it was a big difference between the $50 I had been expecting to pay and $162.00 that the computer said I needed. The receptionist said that she would take off the charges for the transmission service .... and only charged me $82.06, what a deal. I would not ever take my car back to Munson's and would not recommend their service to anyone else. read more

Poor workmanship and customer service. They replaced the wrong turn signal/light switch on my car, which unfortunately I didn't realize before I drove off. I returned 15 minutes later and explained the mistake. No apology for mistake nor inconvenience. I understand that mistakes happen, but I have no respect for a business that won't take accountability and treats me as if it's my fault. They did reverse the charge, but now I need to find someone else to do the work right the first time and take additional leave from work. read more

1st Honda repair in 1992 which was the timing belt replaced. I called the dealership and received a quote of over 600.00, then I called Munsons and I still recall the price was 185.00. I brought the car in and the repairs were great, fast, and no problems. Since then I have owned 5 Hondas and I am proud to say Munsons has completed everything more serious than an oil change. I am proud to recommend this shop for their honesty, affordability, quality of repairs, and commitment to their work. One last point about negative "customer service" reviews. Mr. Munson has always been polite and respectful to me and my wife. I was 20 years old when I brought my first car to Munson and a week ago I tried to get Munson to repair my 20 year old son's Dodge truck (not a Honda obviously). He has always been respectful. Since one of my Hondas will be passed down to my daughter soon, I will be taking it in to get a timing belt and brakes completed.
