I understand substitutions, but I didn't think that would be substituting a $100+ order with a $40 one. Here's what I thought I was getting. But I didn't. Written complaint to owner Tracy Callahan resulted in reply which was completely untrue. He indicated order had been completed in 3 minutes, 30 minutes before it had. I was there and he wasn't. Earlier this month, my husband ordered two arrangements for my father's funeral service, with a special note that lilies were not to be included because of severe allergies and reactions to lilies in the past. Of course, the arrangements ended up having lilies -- about one third of the flowers were lilies. When my husband called about the issue, the owner apologized and said that they had the note about allergies and clearly made a mistake. While the owner said most people aren't allergic to the type of lilies they used, they didn't look any different from the lilies I have reacted to in the past, and I certainly wasn't going to take any chances that I would have a severe allergic reaction during my father's funeral -- so we threw them out. When my husband offered to rush over to pick up something different -- whatever they had, since the service was first thing in the morning -- the owner said they were closing! We had to run to a local Giant to buy flowers. I normally don't write these types of reviews, but I can't even begin to word how upset I am at the lack of care in fulfilling our order and the additional lack of compassion for helping us fix the mistake they made, making a difficult time for my family even more stressful than it needed to be. read more

I sent a bouquet of flowers whose colors were pink, orange, red and all bright ones on the website. I chose this type particularly to cheer my friend up. She texted me to thank me for the flowers but her picture astonished me - it was a combination of greenish white and yellow and dark purple! There was just one red flower - no pink and no orange. They looked rather depressing and that was not the purpose for me to send the flowers to my friend. It is spring now and it would not even difficult to collect flowers that are pink in my ow garden! The discrepancy between the photo on their website and the flower that was actually sent was truly disappointing. If they do not have the flowers in the color choices that are shown on the website, they should let clients know. And the arrangement does not look pretty either. Terrible customer service post delivery. Flowers showed up to recipient without a card identifying who sent them. Recipient spent a day trying to ask who might have sent her flowers. Called customer service to let them know what happened (didn't ask for a discount or refund or anything) just wanted to ask what happened. Customer service rep blamed the recipient for losing the card because it's impossible to lose the card. Said the card is the only way the delivery driver knows who to give the flowers to because "has nothing else with him other than flowers and that card". Then he said the recipient signs for the flower and card....I asked what do they sign if the delivery driver has nothing else with him other than flowers and the card (yet the card supposedly had to be left with the recipient). Then the rep said, "well the recipient 'verbally signs' that they got the flowers." Never heard of "verbally signing". That apparently means they give their name to the driver (who has nothing to write anything down on because the card is all they have) and he goes back to his truck and remembers to write down the name. Rep said they've been delivering flowers for 20+ years and never delivered flowers without the card. I simply would have appreciated an "I'm sorry that happened, would you like us to redeliver the card." But simply due to the lying, changing excuses of why they couldn't have possibly lost the card, and the aggressive blaming on the recipient for losing the card was too much for me not to leave feedback so that everyone is aware of the customer service. But to be fair, the flowers I'm told were beautiful once the recipient figured out who they were from by process of elimination. Thanks for listening...this has been therapeutic :) read more

My sister & I have been ordering flowers for my mother from Bethesda Florist for literally decades, for Mother's Day and her birthday. They've always been extremely reliable and their flowers have always been beautiful. We had the Mother's Day flowers delivered two days early this time (they were beautiful, as always) - but last night (Mother's Day), my mother told us that some of the flowers were dying and others weren't fresh-looking. We were all really surprised and certainly very dismayed. First thing this morning, I called and spoke to the owner (Tracy). He was very pleasant and there was no hesitation whatsoever. Tracy had the same flowers delivered to my mother today and they took back the other ones. Considering his prompt/pleasant response and the fact that we've had such superb experiences with Bethesda Florist for so many years, I strongly recommend them. My mother also told me that the man who delivered the original flowers was very sweet-natured. Lastly, Bethesda Florist has been a family-owned business for more than fifty years. Ordered an orchid arrangement for our anniversary which was delivered on time as promised. Within about a week half of the plant began to droop and lose its petals. We love orchids and have had good luck maintaining them so this was a surprise. We called and spoke with a most cordial and helpful manager who said as soon as he got a suitable replacement he would deliver and pick up the original order. There's a reason I use this florist exclusively, not the least of which is the fact that I can walk there only five minutes from my condo. A couple of times a year we find ugly, poor-quality bouquets on our porch, delivered to us from Bethesda Florist because my husband does not have the heart to tell his mother, who lives in Seattle, that Googling "Bethesda florist" is not going to bring up the best florist to use in the Bethesda area (which is York Florist, by the way). The most recent bouquet my mother-in-law ordered from Bethesda Florist was full of flowers that were tattered, creased, and browning at the edges. Also, if you care about aesthetics (and isn't that a goal in flower-arranging?), you would wonder, as I did, whether Bethesda Florist put mauve, deep red, orange, and mint-green in the same bouquet because they thought it looked good or, more probably, because they were using up random flowers they had on hand. On 3/3 occasions this shop has delivered floral arrangements that bear no resemblance and are far inferior to what is purchased and as depicted in the photos. A house plant was delivered in place of an expensive vase arrangement, as one example. I just spoke with a friend who said the same thing happened to her with a very expensive funeral tribute - by guess who - Bethesda florist. So that's 4/4. They don't seem to get that these days recipients will send pictures of what they received to the sender. This company is utterly dishonest and I will never use their services. I do not like to leave a bad review as I know it can hurt a business but after so many incidents clearly this is not a one-off mistake and people need to be aware. read more

If I were a religious gal, I would say that God shed his light on this wonderful florist. Allow me to explain ... I ordered my wedding flowers from a wretched online vendor called bigrose.com. My flowers arrived the day before my wedding - in a box - and all I was supposed to do was put them in water so they would "plump up." It was roughly $400 and my priority was not my flowers so I was okay with flowers-in-a-box because they were WAY less expensive than some other places that I called and it included everything from Bride bouquet and boutonnieres to rose petals and centerpieces. Flowers-in-a-box arrived as planned, but when I cut open those flower coffins, I discovered quickly, why it might have been better to just order flowers in person. Not only were the rose petals and certain other arrangements - including wrist corsages for the Moms- missing, but the roses for my order were atrocious. Some roses were dead. Others were limp. I feverishly put them in water "to plump" and woke up the next day to no avail. That morning, around 8am, I went running through Bethesda for my "pre-wedding" jog. All along the way I thought, "Okay, there were no rose petals for the flower girl, but I can just buy those at Trader Joe's real quick. But what about the Mom's corsages? They didn't send them with a wristband. Should I just give them the "petite bouquets" that were clearly substituted even though the flowers are ugly and the Mom's will probably just throw them to the side? ..." My thoughts just continued streaming ... And then, as if the heavens parted to shine a light on this location, the Bethesda Florist came until full view - and they were open! Absolutely nothing in a 10 block radius was open at the time (trust me - I ran past all of them!). So I wandered in and inquired, "By any chance? Do you think you could make two corsages by 12pm today?" In time, it unfolded that I was getting married in only a few hours and my flowers were a mess. Thank goodness, not only were they able to do the corsages (I just wanted our Moms to have nice flowers!) but they offered to do my Bridal bouquet too! And without a huge price tag! (in fact, they gave me a "deal" which I attributed to their kindness at my misfortune, but I'm certain outside of that, their prices are still very reasonable) If there are angels on earth, Tracy and Kyle can easily be identified. While I was on the verge of tears at the excitement of having solved my flower dilemma, they smiled and showed me *exactly* how to hold my bouquet so that my flowers were perfect in pictures and they encouraged me not to create my own puffy eyes ("Don't cry!" they cheered). In the end, the bouquet was breath-taking (more beautiful than I ever could have imagined!) and the Moms enjoyed their lillie corsages. Most importantly, I didn't have to sacrifice an arm and a leg to pay for them. Knowing all that, I can quickly and easily suggest that you give them a call if you need wedding flowers ... even if you're like me and it's not the world's biggest priority. When I left that day, I told them that if I had stumbled across their venue when I first started looking, I would have hit the jackpot and bought ALL my flowers through them. Every now and then, I fantasize about what it would have been like to not worry about the pitiful state of some flowers for a day and a half. But the most important thing is that in the end, it all worked itself out and worked itself out because of the great service, wonderful personalities and kind hearts of the owner and workers at Bethesda Florist. In some ways, I write this review so that the whole world can know where to go, and in others it is my open thank-you letter because Tracy and Kyle will forever have my gratitude for removing my wedding stress so that I could focus solely on my vows. read more

This happened a year ago in May and had I discovered yelp I would have posted it then. So... I placed an order for the Morning Sunrise Bouquet. I did not get to see it until later that night. I'm so sorry, but it looked nothing like what I thought I had ordered. Some of the flowers were beat up and wilted, the colors were off as was the glass base, and it was much smaller than it looked on the picture. Essentially, I feel the bouquet that was delivered was not what was advertised or worth the dollar amount charged. I've left a few messages before finally getting a hold of someone yesterday. I took pictures of the bouquet and attached them to an email stating the above. Tracy Callahan replied and called offering half off my next order or to have it replaced (it was a surprise for someone...how can that be replaced?). I asked for half off this order given the circumstances. She replied: "If this would have been something we could have picked up in a timely fashion, we could have given you a full credit if we messed up. I will look up the order and issue a credit." Came in with my mother with pictures of my sisters bridal bouquet ready to place an order right away and buy some flowers in addition. Tracey, the owner, was extremely rude. At first he told us he didn't want our business and couldn't do the bouquet- then he changed his story and told us he could do it but we needed an appointment for next Tuesday and that the bridal bouqet needed to be circular and not cascade because it was not possible to have a cascade bouquet done there. When we tried to buy some of the flowers, he grew angry and yelled at us saying that he was oversold and everything in the store was already bought. Hate to do this but it's warranted. The owner Tracey is a stand up guy, and his staff are very polite and helpful. The flowers are TOP-NOTCH and last a good while. The problem is that they seem to be disorganized and have either missed my delivery or have forgotten it altogether 3 of the past 6 months. In December I got a standing order to have flowers delivered to my fiancé first Saturday of each month. Simple, right? Wrong. They continuously miss the delivery date or don't deliver altogether. Also their billing practices are kinda weak. They charge you 3 months in advance, then take two off, and only charge you once for the next three months. Why not charge my card once a month. That way I know it's on the bill and we don't have to overthink it. They have a 3rd party answering service who is feckless, incompetent, and have yet to get a message to them. I've told them about this numerous times and keep getting the same excuses "oh we're gonna fire them at the end of the month." Well...as a business owner...what are you waiting for? Long story short, I hate having to give them a bad review because of the quality of the product and their eagerness to please. But at the end of the day results matter and if I can't depend on them to deliver each month I don't see the use. Sorry guys. I'm sure there's lots of other florists who want my business. I'm an easy customer. Just deliver to me on time and we're all good. Or if there's an issue or discrepancies just pick up he phone. read more

These guys are AWESOME! I had a special request to deliver a gift to my girlfriend along with flowers. The gift was VERY expensive so I was concerned about actually leaving it with them not really knowing them or their delivery people.
