I think this does NOT deserve the hype it has. They're all over the place, and in some areas, they have 4 shops in a block serving dozens of customers at each location. Lines out the door usually imply great food or novel food experiences, this is neither. You order an expensive sandwich and they make it for you. So it's an expensive deli - nothing new. I tried the Dante, the Numero 1, Numero 4, and Numero 5 - of those, the only one I would get again was the Dante. All their sandwiches have the same focaccia base, and it's way overcooked. It should be crispy then soft, but instead it was just hard and crunchy all the way through. The Numero 4 was a glorified ham and cheese sandwich. The cheese was good, they went very light on the ham, and there was a truffle cream sauce with a very mild truffle flavor. I love truffle, but the cream was sort of sweet and it wasn't my favorite flavor combination. The Dante was the best one, but even then, it had the same bread shortfall. It's a prosciutto and arugula sandwich, very basic, so it wasn't bad, but certainly something you could easily slap together yourself. It was also the only sandwich out of 4 with any kind of vegetable. read more

My quick review: Delicious but not worth the long wait. My longer review: This is such a well-known establishment globally (there are a few locations outside of Florence) that there is constantly a long line outside their 4 stands (all side by side in Florence). If you're in Florence for a short time, I think there are other places with a panino that is just as good. They do have staff monitoring the lines which helps the efficiency so if you're willing to wait, it's a fun experience to order (just go with the pre-made options off of their menu- they have QR code menus while you are in line) and the paninis are pretty big. For two people, we shared the la paradiso and tartufo 2. We could've shared just one but we wanted to get two because of how long we waited in. There isn't anywhere to sit so you'll have to walk and sit or I recommend walking a few streets away and sitting in a quieter area. Get a drink to go with your panino! read more

Both my husband and I got sick with horrible food poisoning after eating this sandwich and missed out on 1.5 days of our trip and had to cancel much anticipated pasta making class. My coworker mentioned this place but she didn't give me any deets. Just said the sandwiches were out of this world . Glad I listened to her! I had planned to grab lunch here after the Uffizi. Walking up we saw the line. It was crazy! But very well Organized with the "traffic controllers". Mind you this was at 11:45am, maybe the worse time to come. I really wanted to like this place and I can see why some people do, but for me it was a major disappointment. Maybe I got the wrong one the pistachio iv but it said it had cream but there wasn't any cream and when I tried to buy a side of cream they wouldn't let me. I did have a bite of my friends which was better. The other thing is they should offer half sizes, I'm one person who can't finish a whole one. Maybe it's silly to go to a place like this when we have two locations in New York now, but I just wanted to confirm my suspicions that the ones in NYC are not nearly as good as the original, and I'm very confident of that now. If you've done any research on what to eat while in Florence, I'm sure this sandwich place has shown up for you. It's an extremely popular place for university students, mostly because not only are the sandwiches massive and tasty, they also happen to be pretty affordable. We waited on quite a long line and it took about 20 minutes or so before we were at the counter and were able to place our orders. This place seems to run like a factory with multiple workers taking orders at the same time. I got their vegetariana 5 which had tomato, eggplant, pecorino cream, and a pistachio cream in it. Now, our sandwiches were made fairly quickly, but we saw what was causing the bottleneck - a very inefficient checkout system. It took us almost as long as it took us to wait on the line to order as it did to actually pay for our sandwiches. It was an overwhelming experience and we were very happy to finally step out of the very crowded interior to be able to actually enjoy our sandwiches. We followed suit with many of the other patrons and ate by some steps by the Duomo. Once we were able to dig in, we definitely felt like the wait and chaos were worth it because man, these were some delicious sandwiches. It was a little bit of a struggle for us to finish our sandwiches, but we managed. The bread was absolutely what made the sandwiches as delicious as possible, and just writing this review is making my mouth water. I got the Viola sandwich and a coke for $17.05. It was pretty good, but I'm not sure if it was worth the Tik Tok hype. I got there around 11:00 am and there wasn't much of a crowd yet. I only had to wait about 5 minutes before ordering and then I got my food basically right away. However, I passed by later in the day and there were multiple lines out the door, wrapping around the corner of the building. Seating inside the actual restaurant was very limited, but it was easy to find a place outside nearby to sit, as it is just a sandwich. While I was completely skeptical whether sandwiches could be amazing, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the one that I had at All'Antico Vinaio. They make schiacciatta meaning they use Tuscan flatbread that is a little more plain which allows the meats stand out. I had ordered the L'Inferno which was recommended as one of the more popular items on the menu. It is made up of primarily porchetta with a spicy nduja spread that really brings the heat. With a layer of arugula, it gives a nice freshness that breaks up the heaviness of the meat. Moreover, the sandwich was huge! Even sharing, it took two sittings to finally finish. They ignored people asking questions and the queues to the point that most looked like chickens without heads.
