I have been dreaming of having bistecca alla fiorentina ever since I can remember. Back in the states, I always get strange reactions from the waiters when I order my steak "as rare as possible." That is what I was expecting in Italy. Am I the only one that thought steak florentine was supposed to be served this way? Maybe that's was my mistake but I thought that's how it was prepared in Florence. Anyways, I was immediately suspicious when our waitress asked how we would like our steak cooked and her suggestions were medium or medium well. Uhhhh what? That goes against everything I believe in! The steak came out on a hot stone slab on top of a wooden box. The slab obviously continued to cook the steak so I immediately took off a few pieces to prevent this. The steak was thick and tender with chunks of large salt grains. It looked nice all sliced up but that's where the compliments end. It lacked flavor and ended up cooking to be more medium rare when I grabbed my pieces and then even medium by the time my dad grabbed his second slice. Our waitress seemed annoyed when we asked for the truffle sauce to accompany our steak (my dad forgot to ask for it when we placed our original order) and walked away with a huff to go grab it. The fries came out cold and limp with flavorless truffle shavings on top. I'm not sure why this place has such great reviews. Maybe it got too big for its britches and the quality has declined? The one saving grace was the crema bruciata! And the very understanding hostess who gladly pushed our reservation from 7:30 to 8:00pm due to travel difficulties. Whatever the reason, this place definitely missed the mark. You can't walk three steps without seeing a steakhouse here in Florence. My recommendation? Try one of those. read more

I was a bit disappointed in the steak considering the price.. I ordered medium rare but most of it came out medium so it got super chewy! It was barely seasoned too so I got the peppercorn sauce on the side, which was actually perfecto. Came here based on Yelp reviews to try the Fiorentina steak. Made a reservation through The Fork (saw they had a 20% off promo by reserving). Hostess was nice and got us seated right away for our early dinner (5:30). We ordered a couple drinks as well as the aforementioned steak, rare... along with French fries and salad. They brought out some focaccia bread to start and that was good with the balsamic vinegar and oil. Moving on to the food... unfortunately this was probably my LEAST favorite experience in all of Italy and all of my Europe trip (Munich and Zurich included). Steak was brought out and it looked good initially but was not rare...more like a medium rare on a hot plate... so it kept cooking. My first bite or two was ok, then it just got to the point where it wasn't even enjoyable or palatable to eat. The fries and salad were also so mediocre. Probably the most popular steakhouse in Florence. We gotta try the Florentine steak. After consulting the server, we got the local Italian beef (forgot its name, but the fattier one). The steak came out with great presentation. Sizzling on a hot plat. Giant piece of meat. We easily finish all the meat, so it was good. The steak tasted normal though - not as beefy as dry aged beef, or not as flavorful at some other places i have tried (Porteno in Sydney), Just regular red meat taste. A little not salty enough. For sure not the best steak i have ever eaten. Probably due to the simple way how Florentine steaks are cooked. The tiramisu was also mid. Servers were somehow all non-Italian (Indians), so that gave me a touristy vibe. But whatever lol. Trattoria dall'Oste is a popular restaurant in Florence and there are multiple locations to choose from. Restaurant is known for its for its steaks and pasta. Since we knew we couldn't finish the gigantic Florentine steak, we opted for the rib eye steak. I was particularly impressed with the steak. It was surprisingly tough considering it was rib eye. Did not notice much marbling on the rib eye either. On the other hand, I did enjoy the Beef Ragu as it provided tender chunks of beef in a tomato and carrot based ragu sauce. Very tasty and the pasta was tender and good bite to it. The service was subpar and uneven for us. Nobody even acknowledged us for 10 min after we sat and I had to flag someone to help us. The waiter seemed disinterested and just asked whether we are ready to order. Seems like they didn't know who was supposed to serve my table. Oh well. Blown away by the Bistecca alla Florentina! You could definitely make a reservations because it gets very busy. We decided to have an early dinner and luckily were able to get a table right away. The restaurant is low lighting and very clean. The T-Bone steak was phenomenal! It came on a hot plate which made it fun to cook the steak to your liking! The amount of steak that it comes in is plenty to share. The side grilled vegetables we got were kind of cold and so we actually put it on the hot plate to warm it up and it was delicious! We came here our first night in Florence. This restaurant was highly recommended by our hotel and TripAdvisor. We did not have a reservation but at 8:00pm we had no problem getting a table. We were seated quickly and the service was excellent. The server explained the traditional Florentine steak and best options for ordering. We ordered a 1.2 Kg steak for 2 people, cooked the traditional style rare to medium rare. We added arugula salad and grilled vegetables. The steak was served on a sizzling hot cast iron serving platter. It was absolutely amazing, cooked to perfection. The salad and vegetables were also delicious and all were good size portions. We also ordered a nice bottle of wine and the service presentation was perfect. The waiter ensured we tasted the wine and that the glasses were perfectly decanted. We wrapped up the meal with tiramisu and dessert wine. Both were delicious and the portions were perfect. Overall this was a great meal and the ambiance was very pleasing. Service was excellent and not pushy. They seemed genuinely interested in ensuring that the meal was perfect. I would highly recommend a visit to one of the 4 locations in Florence. We were in Florence with a Tauck tour and one of our fellow travelers had heard about this place from a friend of theirs. He and his wife invited me and my husband to go to dinner with them here. We had an 8:30 reservation and the place was already packed. The restaurant has plenty of appetizers and pastas, but their signature dish is steak. I will say, we wished they would have shown us the cut beforehand, because it was a little fattier than we would have liked it. We went here for a nice steak dinner. It was recommended to us by one of our tour guides. The ambience was nice, but the food was not good. We ordered steak frites and fries. We asked for the steak to be cook medium well with only a little bit of pink. Unfortunately, it came out bloody and raw. We had to send it back to be cooked again. The fries and steak needed a lot of salt. Once the steak came out again, it was still pinker than we liked, but we tried to eat it. It was really fatty and rubbery. It wasn't because it was cooked that way. Our friends ordered steak and they like it rare. They said their steak was rubbery too. The service was also lacking. The server disappeared and never checked back with us on the food. Then, they tried to overcharge us by $40. I pointed out the error and they only partially fixed it. I had to have them correct it again. There was no apology for their error or food. We were disappointed with the quality, service and price. The next day we went to another steak place we saw two doors away from that place. It was called La Cantinetta Osteria con Cucina. It wasn't busy or fancy, but the food and service was amazing. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a real steak with good service. I would go there in a heartbeat if I am ever in Firenze again. read more

Immediately upon walking in, grabbing our reserved table was a little hard and to be frank kind of cold as we waited in that hallway with meats in the window. We got escorted to a table in the foreign people section I'm sure as all of them were Asian just like us so I wasn't sure if this was racial profiling or like just a foreign thing to grab a waiter who will try to fill our nights with jokes that we don't really get because he was very witty and very rude but somehow managed to make us laugh by the end of the night or maybe it was just the amount of steak we ate we just thought his comments were just insane and ridiculous. Definitely don't come for service. The Wagyu was the fave and honestly our waiter did good in recommending this as the Wagyu is from Venice Italy. We also ordered the porter from Italy as well to try it and the Wagyu was melting in your mouth like butter! The porter was good too I enjoy the fat parts here as they have a bit of a good crunch to the meat. The salad had no dressing just so you know, and the potatoes were soooo good but they're boiled so just precaution if you're an American searching for fried potatoes - it's not. HOWEVER I love these potatoes since they're boiled and buttery. Quite in fact suits the steak since the steak is already so heavy. I loved the steak here and since we don't tip I guess service doesn't matter here in Italy. Food is amazing and very worth while. While walking back to our Hotel while visiting Fienza from Florida USA, we stopped in Trattoria Dali Oste and glad we did. First we were lucky to get a table just walking in without a reservation. There were four of us adults. My wife got a pasta dish and my sister her husband and I got a group T-bone steak meal which included salad drink and meat and cheese appetizer for 41 euros each. This was meh at best.Biggest letdown was the $75 steak my son endured-not well seasoned and incredibly disappointing as he's an absolute steak nerd. This "apparently" top tier restaurant should be embarrassed for so blatantly pandering at the table for a tip that's already established in the menu prices and in the expected table charges already contained in the bill. So, if you wish to experience the only restaurant in all of Florence to behave in such an inhospitable, low class manner, then by all means give it a try. There are countless other options worth your time and money. We wouldn't return if they comped a free meal given the initial experience. It's a steak factory for tourists. Not an Italian in sight. We arrived at their address and a not-very-friendly host took us 3 doors down to another one of their locations. The steak was fine. Have I had better? Absolutely. And it's supposed to be served rare, but since so many tourists don't like that, it comes on a hot plate so it cooks away on your table. We took all the meat off immediately and put it on our plates to keep it rare. But the real turn off was when the wine arrived corked and the waiter tried to convince us it was not. To their credit, they seated us without a reservation at about 7:30 in the evening. we ordered the ribeye steak and seafood pasta. I've had the rib steak, it was just OK maybe even a little less than OK the external presentation of the steak had flaky charred things from the grill grate. It certainly was not a clean presentation, no garnish, just a steak on a plate. I've had much better steaks from Texas roadhouse in the US. My wife's seafood pasta she said was a five on a 10 point scale. The top steakhouse rating was certainly overblown. Pleasantly Surprised! Came by this place by mistake cause it was right next to our hotel, and we loved it so much we came twice. Be mindful that it is next to the train station and the area surrounding it is not great, but once inside, its WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY. The restaurant has great music, amazing staff and an insane menu. Florence aka Firenze! Italy back in June 23' and this restaurant was a "spur of the moment" decision because the original restaurant we wanted to go to was closed as were most of them during this time. Not to mention we were own our way to an Air bnb! Trattoria Dall'oste was located right near the train station at a high traffic area. We were there about 45 minutes before opening and some employees were inside. I asked if we needed to have reservations which was stated on their website, but they made accommodation for us (we did have luggage with us as well) which was very nice. We were first in like and as soon as 30 mins before opening come around the line was wrapped around the building. The first thing that stood out was that this restaurant was labeled Worlds 101 best steakhouse restaurant in the world & I definitely see why, especially after being around my fair share of steakhouses. The decor and ambiance on the inside was aesthetically pleasing and that of a typical steakhouse. We had to stop overindulging in the complimentary bread, balsamic vinegar and olive oil I ordered the Rucola e pecorino which is sliced beef steak with rocket salad and pecorino cheese. The meat was well seasoned, flavorful, and super tender. I ordered mine medium rare which was cooked to perfection. The addition of the salad (beneath the meat) and the pecorino cheese gave it just the right amount of healthy and saltiness that satisfied my pallet. My mother in law ordered a Spritz ( Aperol, Prosecco, and tonic water) which you can find on almost every menu in Italy because it is a staple drink. For her main dish she ordered the Tortellini Di palate Mugellani Al Ragu Toscana which is the spaghetti pasta noodles with Chianina meat sauce. She stated it was the best Spritz in Italy she's had and her pasta was great as well My wife ordered standard spaghetti which she thought was great. Our waiter was great! Customer service gets an A ! With a title, World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants, we had to check this place out even though we had Florentine steak the previous night at another spot. As soon as we sat down, my son leans over giggling. Do you notice anything funny and strange about this place? What, I asked? Look around you, mom. Most of the diners were 95% Asian. So much so that there is a separate menu in Korean, Japanese and Chinese. Here is what we ordered: - Florentine Steak (Black Angus) - spaghetti with clams - tripe stew - grilled vegetables We couldn't help comparing but we all thought the Florentine steak we had elsewhere was better. This was served on a sizzling cast iron platter which imo makes it more greasy. Still, we enjoyed it. For me, it was the desserts here that won me over. The Panna Cotta had a marshmallow texture without being too gooey. The dark chocolate on top was oh so yummy. We also got the Zuppa Inglese, a layering dessert of custard on top with ladyfingers dipped in a bright red herb liqueur. Omg, it was amazing. Italians just know how to do chocolate right. World's top 101 steakhouse for a reason! We had a reservation for this place. When we checked in, we were actually led to a different building just down the street. Apparently this place owns a couple of spaces in the area, not just the main restaurant that you see with all the steak that's getting aged. There are a ton of seating across all of their areas. Bistecca alla Fiorentina "Chianina"1.2 kg. - Minimum order is 1kg but it depends on the cut that you get, they typically go to 1.1-1.2 if you ask for 1kg. The steak is served on a hot plate and the cut is a combination of a NY strip and a filet mignon. I mean, the steak was absolutely divine. Cooked to utter perfection and was promptly devoured. Service was on point. The servers were very attentive and super helpful with explaining the menu for us. Overall, an amazing steakhouse. Would 100% recommend. read more
