You'll know you're getting close when you start to see people walking around with massive sandwiches in hand. The line was long but moved surprisingly fast. Know what you want by the time you get up there - the intense man behind the counter will waste no time watching you make up your mind. I decided on a panino with mortadella, pesto, and sundried tomatoes. The first few bites were heavenly. The bread was nice and crispy yet fluffy at the same time. However, the more I got through the sandwich, the saltier it got. Like almost unbearably salty. The ingredients weren't distributed around very evenly so one bite would be a mouthful of sundried tomatoes and the next bite would be way too much pesto. Obviously, the folks making these paninos make hundreds a day and are rushing to go as fast as possible to keep up with the lines. I think I could taste that in my panino. Or, maybe I just picked something from the menu I wasn't a huge fan of and should've gotten something else? I'm not sure. Easily the most hyped sandwich shop EVER. One of those places where you have to stop by, taste for yourself, or the FOMO will kill you. Guaranteed that you will wait in line, but on the plus side, they have 3 shops, so it moves rather quickly and they route traffic as needed. As for the sandwhich... don't kill me... but it was good, but not really special. I haven't thought about it again after eating it. They offer a very vast menu. I got the "Le Paradiso", the ingredients independently were fresh & tasted good, but just felt like it was missing something. Perhaps I should have asked for add ons? Over 400+ days of Duolingo didn't help when looking at the back wall at the menu and when we inched pretty close to the counter we saw a QR code for the English menu but being stubborn I opted for "the Dante" (hey, Italy's greatest writer - the sandwich should be memorable, too) while the rest of the family all got different items. The sandwich experience of a lifetime. This place is SUPER popular and they have four storefronts located in the same spot to handle the crowds. The lines looked intimidating, but things moved fast. You might think this place is just a tourist trap, but the sandwiches are lights out amazing. The bread is PERFECT and I'm pretty sure anything you get will be amazing. One was literally just focaccia bread cut in half, a few slices of prosciutto, mozzarella cheese, and 3 basil leaves. That's it. It's literally a sandwich anyone can make at home. The second sandwich was focaccia bread sliced in half, prosciutto, mozzarella, fig spread, and honey. It was so sweet, I couldn't finish it. Once again, typical sandwich anyone can make at home. On top of that, they hardly put any prosciutto or meat in there. Overall, really disappointing and underwhelming. The ambience is overly crowded with tourists and locals eating and walking around. They had three different lines for each shop, and each line was so long. And because the workers had to work super fast to get everyone's orders, it felt very rushed and unpleasant. Especially if you're a foreigner who doesn't speak Italian, these workers will give you a nonchalant and careless attitude. I suggest you make your own focaccia sandwich. One of the top Italian sandwiches we had in Italy. We also later found out they operate in the US as well. They are very busy and lines are long. Once you walk in you place your order at the counter and you can see them cut the meat and build the sandwich. All the sauces, delis, and other toppings are on display. Was able to get there early and had to wait 20-30 minutes. There is no tables but you can see other people eat the sandwich through the street. We got the Roast suckling pig but it was dry. So a contrarian review of this much hyped place. Yes it all hinges on my sandwich which was a let down. We went to 3 sandwich shops during our trip here and this was a least favorite of the bunch. So you may have seen this place already if you are contemplating a trip to Florence. Its super popular and judging by the lines I do not doubt it. As far as the lines go do not be put off. Its a pretty efficient operation, there are literally 3 stores right next to each other so pick the shortest line. Beef Carpaccio Sandwich: Yes I knew it would be raw. The issue was the meat was sliced so thick it was like biting down on a chew toy and inevitably you would have to pull a whole slice out of the sandwich, then beging a long journey of chewing it relentlessly to avoid choking on the wad of meat. Like 5 minutes a bit it seemed. Quite a pity because everything was super fresh, the bread fantastic, and everything on the sandwich could have complmented each other perfectly. Had it been sliced thin like you expect in a Carpaccio it would have been glorious. Instead it was 25 minutes of gnawing a chew toy We got in line and after a 25 minute wait (we had about 50 people ahead of us) we were at the counter. You order your sandwich, they make it right in front of you including slicing the meat etc and then you pay. Forget about eating inside as there is very little space. So just eat it standing up outside. There are tons of people doing exactly the same thing. Had I ordered something else this review most likely would have been 5 stars read more

Over the years, All'Antico Vinaio has become a bit of a divisive topic in terms of the quality of their sandwiches. One can't help but feel that their success (with locations now open in NYC, Las Vegas, and Venice....California, among others) has caused a bit of a backlash among the Italian sandwich cognoscenti. Some reviews and remarks have even gone so far as to deride them as the "Subway of Italian sandwich shops." I can only go by my own visit at this particular location, but my experience was superb. After spending less than 5 minutes in a fairly long but briskly moving queue, I opted for "The Boss" as my sandwich, consisting of Prosciutto crudo, semi-aged pecorino, truffle cream, and arugula. Very informal walk up atmosphere, beverages on hand to accompany your food, wise cracking, hardworking, friendly staff. My sandwich was a very large portion, on excellently prepared focaccia bread...chewy with a slight crunch, seasoned lightly with salt, and just a hint of olive oil, and pecorino. The arugula was fresh and the prosciutto was lovely...not too salty, trimmed and cut lean with just the right ratio of fat. I loved the sandwich so much that I returned for a followup visit a few days later, which was every bit as good. My expectations were met and then some. read more

All'Antico Vinaio has pretty much taken over the street they are on. There are actually three store fronts next door / across from each other. They are all the same which was confusing at first so just pick the one that's least busy. The sandwiches are huge and all very cheap (prices were around 6-8 euros in summer 2023) and I can absolutely see why people go nuts about this place. All the ingredients are flavorful and delicious combined together, and the cheese spreads were the absolute standout. Sandwiches that don't have cheese cream however end up quite dry. I couldn't finish my sandwich and saved for later. Could easily split one for two people for a super cost effective meal. There was no wait at all when we came right around opening time (~10:30am) but otherwise every time we passed the entire street was absolutely mobbed during the day all the way through their closing time, and the surrounding few blocks is filled with people eating the sandwiches. We had never heard of All'Antico Vinaio before wandering by it on the way to another place and seeing the long line to acquire one of their famous sandwiches. We're suckers for a line with something awesome at the end of it so we gave it a try. Pro-tip, this location has three store-fronts, all next to each other, that all serve the same thing. The long line tends to be at the left-most store, but if they don't have someone managing the lines, feel free to get in one of the shorter ones at the right-two store-fronts. Same sandwiches...shorter wait. That having been said the line moved super-quickly so don't let the long line deter you. They also have a great vegetarian selection. You can get similar, and maybe just as good, sandwiches at other nearby places. (That's not just conjecture...we had a really good, very similar sandwich at a no-line place in the same block.) But this is the only place with multiple, unique, creative and tasty vegetarian options. They've got 5 different vegetarian sandwiches (whereas at a "regular" but just as good place usually there's a cheese sandwich.) We got the #2 (Pistachio Cream, Stracciatella, Dry tomatoes and Basil) and the #4 (Cow Cheese, Mushroom Cream, Zuchini and Rocket lettuce.) Both were really good...my wife preferred the pistachio cream and I liked the strong cheese flavor of the #4. You can also get a blue cheese or pecorino cream based sandwich...so if you're sandwich-a-holic (help is available) you can go back multiple times and have something different. There's no seating here so you'll see people spread out on the streets in every direction, by the river, around the corner, sitting on curbs, enjoying their All'Antico Vinaio sandwiches. Came here by recommendation of a friend and were here at 10am. There were a couple of people in line ahead of us, and as the day went on, the line got longer. There are four storefronts and they're all the same, so if you see a shorter line at one of them, go there. There's counter seating available in one of them. Credit cards are accepted. You order first and pay, and then receive your sandwich after it's made. The Il Boss was my pick, and is a great option. It came with a copious amount of meat and truffle spread. The Inferno wasn't too spicy and was a little too strong on the anchovies. The Joe Bastianch is another good option but note that there may be too many sun dried tomatoes concentrated in the center of the sandwich.
