Never mind the line outside the door around this holiday time once she got inside, it was a very efficient process. They also had nice signage outside the door so people knew while they were waiting in line to deal with the holiday menu. They have a really cool train zooming above you when you get inside so keep an eye out for that and signs everywhere and delicious pastries everywhere the food looks beautiful. The people working there are happy and helpful. I was able to get two chocolate cake, donuts, and two cinnamon sugar donuts for my holiday breakfast. Everybody else is picking up orders and then adding onto those orders once they got there. But they have plenty of tasty treats. I was very stressed out getting the party ready that morning and seeing this did have me in tears briefly. Great privately owned Italian Bakery! Located in a strip mall off of Lawrence Ave in Norridge, this bakery is a reminder of the past. The sales area is tiny but large enough to accommodate the typically quick transactions at the counter. For St. Joseph's Day, the place was packed most of the day selling traditional red colored bread and zeppole. They kept the line moving and made sure to give every customer proper attention. The ladies working were all pleasant, even during a hectic day. The cases are filled with premade cookies and pastries while other items (cannoli, zeppole, etc.) are made fresh behind the scenes. Fresh, crisp cannoli shells are stacked and placed up high on a shelf in front for the workers to grab and bring to the back to fill. They were all wearing gloves and put on fresh ones in between transactions where they touched something other than food. Pricing is fair $3-$5 per pastry item from what I saw. It was very crowded when I was there so not much chance to look around. They box everything up in white cardboard bakery boxes and tape shut on all sides. They then place in a clear thick plastic bag. Very nice! The cannoli and zeppole were excellent. I went with almonds on the ends of my cannoli and really enjoyed the flavor and texture of the filling. They filled up the shell to capacity and covered the ends perfectly with almonds (you can get pistachios or peanuts as well). I got a traditional zeppole (custard and cherry) even though I don't love custard. They offer a bunch of flavors, if you don't like traditional. The flavor was excellent and again, filled with lots of custard and cherry. They are famous for donuts but I didn't try any this time around; I will soon. They have all the traditional bakery items as well (bread, focaccia, cookies, cakes and more). There is no where to sit inside and you should be prepared to stand outside for a bit, if it gets too crowded. They don't charge a fee or percentage for using a credit card to pay which is nice. They accept all credit cards but no Apple Pay or Google pay. The credit card reader is behind the counter, so you will need to hand them your card to pay. This is an excellent Italian bakery with pleasant and helpful employees. Try it out when you get a chance. read more

When I googled "Chocolate Cake Donuts in Chicago", this wonderful bakery popped up. So before I committed to a dozen, I was to test drive the CCD's. I also tried their Glazed Cake Donut and their Cinnamon Roll. What a wonderful CCD! Now it's not as good as Dinkel's but pretty damn close! The staff were super friendly and helpful as I wanted to try a few of their other donuts. I really enjoyed the Cinnamon Roll as I'm not a CR type guy but it was fresh and tasty. The Glazed Cake Donut was ok and not my fav. Next time, I'll try the other donuts as you can see the wide variety. Love the dainty specialty cookies, chocolate donuts and cannoli's made to order. They have an impressive array of sweet rolls, apple, cherry and other slices, cupcakes, brownies and other treats. They have specialty desserts, eclairs and other opulent treats. Bread, pizza bread and dinner rolls. Birthday cakes and party cakes that need to be ordered ahead of time. They also have cake and pies, but they sell out quickly. They have a great staff and can get busy at times, especially around the holidays. Love this place. read more

When I think of a bakery I think of a happy place, a place where no matter what there will always be someone happy and smiling. Not this place, majority of the people working are mixed young and old. The young ones look as if they are walking on eggshells and the older ones are rude and unpleasant to even speak to. Denna seems to be the manager, you barely see her and when you do she's definitely rude, she doesn't care what anyone seems to think! If that's the one managing this bakery, I refuse to spend one more penny at this location. Forbid you ask for something done right and you will be attacked with words and attitude, the customer is never right at this location and it's sad. To hear that many have been spending their hard earned money at this location for 10+ years to be treated like absolute trash is sad. This famous local bakery has been around for decades tucked away in a small strip mall off of Lawrence Avenue in Norridge. This small bakery makes fresh pastries and donuts daily. They are famous for all of their pastries, but they have a cult following for one donut in particular their chocolate "crack" donut. My first visit was on Halloween. The bakery had about six customers and a couple women working behind the counter. This place is extremely old school Everyone is so nice, but be prepared to wait if there are more than three customers. Everything moves somewhat slow. I waited for about 25 minutes for my turn in line. I simply asked for the chocolate donut and they knew exactly what I was talking about. No clarification needed. I double checked and asked if this the "Crack" donut. The worker smiled and said yes and that this was the famous chocolate donut. I first heard about this bakery on Chicago's Best show that was on a couple of years ago, but has since been cancelled. I always wanted to try these donuts because people said literally that you cannot eat just one. I waited to get home to fully enjoy the donut. I sat down to open the box to review six gorgeous donuts perfectly frosted. My first bite was extraordinary. The frosting was almost a fudge consistency. The donut itself had a slight crunch. I was in pure heaven. My only thought was I wish I bought more than six. I found myself after the donuts were all gone dreaming of going back and getting more. A week later I went back to get a dozen of these chocolate donuts. I must say this time the service was much faster. These are hands down, in my opinion, the best chocolate donut I have ever had in my life. I am in my 40s and this tasted like a chocolate donut I used to get as a kid. I cannot remember who made them. I think it was Heineman. We used to get them at Dominick's grocery store, which is now closed. If you were on a diet, I do not think you could eat just one of these donuts. They are that good. I truly could say I love these donuts and I cannot wait to go back to get more. Trust me when I say the hype is real. These are the best chocolate donuts in Illinois. On my next visit I'm going to try their other pastries and coffee cakes. I give Alegretti's a rare rating of 9 out of 10. read more

Amazing local bakery in an area full of amazing bakeries. I would say the have the best doughnuts hands down of all the places in the area. Don't be fooled by the chains with their super fancy custom doughnuts. I have had many and none were as moist and fresh as Allegretti's They have a limited amount of styles but when you make the basics well you don't need to dress up with other flavors to cover up that the basic doughnut was not up to snuff. The staff is great doing there best to get you what you need while dealing with large crowds on holidays. read more

I would have given 5 stars because they baked goods are that good but the women working there have major attitudes. I asked for a second piping bag to fill cannolis that i was taking to my daughter's college for her birthday. we were going to have cannoli on her birthday and then she would have some a few days later with her friends. I didn't want to fill them at the bakery because they would be soggy by the time she would eat them. They lied and said they gave me the last piping bag - when i could see a whole bunch of them on the shelf. the baked good are good - but we will not be going back to being waited on like that. read more

Cake donuts are normally thick and the kind of dry where you need a glass of milk to wash it down. That is NOT the case here at Allegretti's. The cake donuts are light and addictive. I can honestly say that my mental health is way too dependent on those cake donuts. Also, their other desserts are pretty good too, and cheap! Over the holidays I got two donuts and two or three cakes/custards, and the total price was under $10. Any other bakery would make you pay at least $20 if not more. Besides all of that, Allegretti's reminds me of my childhood neighborhood bakery. It was a small joint, no frills, wood panels on the walls, but damn good pastries. Driven past it many times but never stopped in until some folks on FB told me it's a nice place to get sliced bakery bread when my erstwhile favorite bakery was on vacation.
