This is the home of my favorite donut, and cookie, and basically all of the things! I've been eating delicious items from Reuter's basically my whole life! Such care is taken with everything here - from stopping in for a box of donuts to a custom cookie or cupcake order - everything is seamless. Treats are tasty and I have to say, their frostings and icings are truly delicious - not the sickingly sweet toppings of some other bakeries/stores. Parking can be interesting as they're located on a busy street - but usually ok if you go early enough. This spot also gets busy - especially near the holidays, so plan ahead if you are looking for something very specific. Cake donut wi the chocolate frosting - the best!! read more

Absolute terrible experience. Family and I have been ordering from this bakery for 15+ years. We ordered a birthday cake for pickup on 4/4/26. Upon even ordering the cake they requested an EMAIL with a photo of the cake and description of what you wanted on the cake and what the cake itself would be. Ok no problem, sent all that. Then called an hour later to confirm all this was received and went over the description AGAIN. Picked the cake up. They cracked open the box, ok fine looked mediocre. Served the cake. The dough was incorrect, the filling was incorrect. Everything about the cake was wrong. And within cutting the first piece the cake collapsed. Mind you this was served to 12+ ppl and literally witnessed by guests. Went in person when they reopened on 4/7, and was told the manager was not there yet, called later on the same day and spoke to Nancy. They offered a credit. Declined as the birthday had passed, and I did not want to come there again. Offered to remake the cake. Declined as the event passed. I asked for a refund. Was told they'd call me back as they had to speak with the owner. Waited over 24hrs for a callback. Nothing. I called back. Asked to speak with the manager, she stated, oh let me ask the owner now. The owner offered to remake the cake for $30 AND provide a credit. Again I pushed for a refund as the event had passed and I did not want a credit at a bakery I had no intention of going to again. Allllll this wasted time and now I am filing a dispute with the bank. This was a horrendous, time consuming experience. If I could give zero stars I would. No one offered a genuine resolution given the circumstances. read more

Picked up a few items from Reuter's including a couple of cake slices (chocolate, apricot, carrot), and chocolate cake donuts. Everything was good. I really liked the apricot cake slice (not too sweet, light creamy filling, soft and fluffy cake-good even on its own, and icing layer is loaded with apricot pieces). A MUST HAVE: their Zeppole (light and fluffy with just the right "bite", custard filling is smooth and creamy and the fruit on top adds just the right balance of sweetness. Glad I got some before they ran out. Carrot cake was your usual so can't go wrong with it, same with the chocolate cake slice-very good. Chocolate cake donut was also yummy-it has a distinct taste I can't describe but delicious. Perfect with coffee or tea. Also to add-the lady at the counter was friendly and very helpful. Will definitely be back to try other things, including their fresh baked bread, cookies, other pastry. read more

I ordered a cake for a baby shower, three weeks ahead of time. I live in Milwaukee and drove an hour and a half to order this cake. The day before I called to see if the cake was ready and was informed that the cake was ready. I sent my daughter to pick it up due to my busy schedule. The day of the baby shower I was able to see the finished product. It was absolutely horrible! It should have been a picture of a baby girl dress. I'm going to attach a photo. When I called to complain, they told me to return the cake uncut but the supervisor had to be present. I drove back to Chicago to return the cake. The supervisor looked at the cake and asked me what was the concern. The cake was supposed to say a sweet baby girl is on the way congratulations Michell and Alex . They refunded me but not once said sorry for the inconvenience. I hope everything went well. It was a horrible experience. read more

This bakery makes great strawberry filled birthday cakes. The bakers tend to be a bit rude to each other. The pastries, however are good.

Do not trust this bakery with your special occasion cake. This bakery has been here for so many years and the inside of it looks like they never remodeled it or dusted anything inside of it. I ordered a cake for my husband's birthday. It wasn't even a fancy cake. It was just an 8 inch cake with a graphic sticker on it. I asked for three types of filling. The first one I asked for was custard. The second one I asked for was strawberry and the third I asked for was bananas. You would think that with that many moist fillings that the cake would also be moist. Well, you would be wrong because the cake was as dry as sand on a hot day. We only took one slice out of the cake at noon after trying it that it was not what we wanted. I asked for marble cake and I got yellow, and there was no custard to be found. When I asked for the cake to be remade they said, bring the cake in and we'll take a look at it and consider Making you another cake. I explained to them that the cake was dry and it wasn't the fillings that I asked for and they told me that the cake was not dry and that I don't get extra custard that the bananas are tossed in custard already. Well, that's not what I asked for because I know that the bananas are tossed and custard, but I wanted an extra amount of custard so that the cake wouldn't be dry. Also, how would you know the cake is not dry if you didn't taste the cake.? Then after that, they were rude and ignorant to me on top of the fact that their place is old and dusty, their cake is dry and now you want to be rude and ignorant to your customer. They told me that they would not make me a new cake and that they would only give me a $25 credit because the cake that I ordered is only $38. So not only are you rude and your cake is not edible. You also overcharged me for the cake that I ordered because I paid well over $50 for a cake that You're telling me was only $38 and I have the receipt to prove it. They refuse to make me another cake. I don't even want the money back that they overcharged me. I have ordered cakes that are better from some of the Mexican bakeries in the area that haven't even been around as long as this one has. They cannot compete with an actual delectable bakery. I would not advise you to give your money to people who do not care about their customers, and I'm surprised that they are still in business because they're not as good as some of the other bakeries in the area. read more

Great cakes and customer service is awesome. Went in last minute for a birthday cake, didn't know what to get as it was too late to pre-order. The lady suggested a cake that was already made. I have been going to Reuters Bakery for over 30 years. This was on of the best bakeries on the North West side of Chicago. The cakes and Strudels have become abysmal.. it has got a distinct East European flair. I am saddened that I will not be going back to my favorite Bakery again. i wrote about Reuter's in 2014, so this is an update. I was moved to write because I was given a large heart cookie with sprinkles on Valentine's Day. To be truthful, I thought to myself..."It's a plain sugar cookie, don't expect much". Well, was i wrong! i took a piece, then another piece...and well, only meaning to eat half, I finish it in no time flat. Where was the cookie from? Reuter's! I commented on how good the cookie was to my adult daughter. She also had one of these heart cookies, but hadn't yet tried it. The next day, she said the same thing...that it looked ordinary, but it was extra yummy. Because of the Covid pandemic, i had not been in Reuters for two years. It was a very happy day when I was back. If only i had known how good that large sugar cookie tasted beforehand, I would have bought some. However, I was able to get fresh strawberry donuts, chocolate covered donuts, custard donuts, fancy cookies.....you get the idea. Bakery heaven! Keep up the good work! :) read more

I've always loved this bakery but after what they did for my daughter's Bridal shower cake, they are now my favorite & I will not go anywhere else. I wanted a specific design for her shower and I walked in with 2 pictures on my phone telling them what I wanted. The girl that helped me said it wouldn't be a problem and even had some suggestions. The work that they did on the cake was BETTER than I could have asked for & expected. It was the hit of the shower & just made everything so beautiful. This spot is a staple in my neighborhood for over 30 + years and has been frequented by my family, friends, and parents. Today I was in with my wife to get an almond cake and butterscotch pecan cake which I have bought with no issues or complaints, ever. My biggest issue was watching an older white gentleman who I found out to be the owner of Reuters, rearranging the bread rolls with...his...bare...hands... I work in the food service industry and am certified by the state of Illinois to do so. I don't care if his hands were cleaned 60 seconds before, it is a health and food code violation.
