This is a Greek bakery I asked a friend about before trying (he said it was good) so I decided to check it out. Went in to see if I could get a piece of baklava cheesecake and try a couple other things out. I also got a piece of orange cake and a piece of souvlaki (the authentic style). The place was empty when I arrived and the owner popped out of the back to serve me my order, a few other patrons entered as I was finishing up with my order. It's a pretty nice and clean place, pricing is a little high but what isn't nowadays. I love trying new things and other than souvlaki, I've never tried either of the other two items before this time. Recommend stopping in for fulfilling a sweet tooth. read more

Upon walking in, you can immediately tell this bakery takes pride in what they do. It smelt like freshly brewed espresso beans, baked goods, and everything was so organized and perfectly placed. Baklava goods rested gently in clear containers and it was clear that everything was baked fresh this morning. I ordered a Greek coffee and it was probably the smoothest I ever had! New Greek bakery and wonderful addition to the neighborhood. Zymi Bakery is the best bakery I have ever been to in my life...no exaggeration. The owner, artist and creator is clearly talented. All you have to do to know that is come in and try a few of the delicious pastries, pizzas, breads, cakes, coffees, smoothies and the list goes. There is a huge variety. Hands down the best carrot cake and baklava I've ever tasted. This place is so awesome we're here on Memorial Day chillin' outside, drinking our mocha & frapé, eating our pastries in their beautifully decorated outdoor space...and I am writing this review. Beautiful flowers, succulents & shrubs and the indoor/outdoor sound system with cool dance transforms this right on Milwaukee Ave. space into a chill spot. Love this place, new Greek bakery on Milwaukee. Great coffee, fantastic pastries just a nice place to come and relax. I like the savory puff pastries filled with cheese and spinach. Disappointed to say the least. I was looking forward to better Greek deserts. We ordered several pastries. They were not fresh, actually stale. Also a bit pricey. I don't mind paying a buck or two more for something that's good and fresh. This wasn't the case here unfortunately. Disappointed. read more

One of my favorite bakeries! He has two kinds of spinach pies - traditional with phyllo dough and BEST EVER ---his very own homemade with a completely different dough! He runs out quickly so you'll need to ask him if there's any in the back. A MUST!!!!! He also has ham, cheese and tomatoes "pies" that are outstanding along with homemade cookies, custard, chocolate cakes and wonderful greek breads (go early and they're still hot!) only $3 - $6 each and one loaf can feed a family! PLEASE NOTE: They're are some pastries that are obviously purchased and mass produced from elsewhere. I've been to Chicago Sweet Connections in the neighborhood and fairly certain this where some of the cakes (i.e. - Napoleon (goes by a different name), berry and black forest cake) from here. They taste horrible! I threw out the Napoleon because it tasted like chemicals! I am a baker and can easily detect these disgusting ingredients. You can easily tell the mass produced items so - just so you know. Despite this I highly recommend this wonderful place which now has a dine -in area w/tables and sofas. Go! Get the good homemade stuff! read more

This place is absolutely amazing! I had to pick up a last minute cake for my partner. As I was trying to enter, the owner was closing up shop a little earlier (holiday), but he still took me in without me even explaining anything to him. He was so nice and so kind. I stopped for bread today, my second visit and the bread was disappointing and nowhere near the quality of my first visit. The first time I went here the bread was freshly baked and still slightly warm--a great loaf of Greek bread. Today I bought two loaves that did not have that same freshness. One sesame loaf was hard and chewy--it did not taste fresh , and the other loaf was a round white loaf that lacked freshness and did not have the same taste as previous loaves. It totally lacked that fresh squishy consistency. Quite honestly I tried each loaf at home and ended up throwing them away--what a waste of money! I refuse to use up carb calories on bad bread! read more

Stale bread sold that was probably never very good to begin with. Their desserts were flavorless. No place to sit and dine in.

Don't waste your time going here. If like eating thee day old bakery goods that's fine. A total waste of money. Rating is probably a negative ten. read more
