Long time ago Oak Mill Bakery was really exceptional, that is not a case anymore. Husband bought me a cake which was really good, but their cheesecake squares were simply awful. It tasted like some sort of glue mixed with who knows what, but definitely not with cheese. The worst part of the experience- they added $ 10.50 -TIP ? I am new to the area and was looking to try something new, The store front is nice and the cakes in the display look amazing. I picked out a cupcake and a few little cookies. The service was nice and they were friendly. I got one of the available cakes with chocolate and raspberry on the top from display what sals associate recommended. In addition to that order I got small cap cake. This was an amazing birthday cake. I ordered this for my moms birthday on a recomendation from a dear friend of mine, Nancy. I actually never thought that the combination of fruit, nuts, chocolate and vanilla pudding in a cake with whipped cream would be this scrumptious. I took a bite and I knew I would be going for a second serving! I highly recommend ordering the "Ambassador Cake" it was sure delightful. She asked in a defensive tone, "Are you sure it is misspelled? I have never heard of this spelling before." I was stunned and did not know how to respond. What an ignorant and rude way to respond to a mistake. I was more upset with the way she spoke to me rather than the mistake by itself (thank you for the $2 refund by the way). I have been a life long Chicago resident yet somehow have never had paczki on Fat Tuesday. How I managed this, I don't know. Regardless, I was on a mission this year and based on a friend's recommendation, stopped in here to pick up some jelly filled deliciousness. I expected it to be a madhouse but it wasn't at all and the staff were super friendly. They were all out of the cream cheese filled paczki which was incredibly sad but what can you do? I got paczki filled with apricot, custard, strawberry and strawberry whipped cream. They were all amazing and I might have to stop in again soon to sample some of the other beautiful creations that were on display. read more

I came here for a desert and a cup of coffee. I looked at the Napolean and noticed that the custard was cracked which told me that it must be old. This is my 2nd favorite location- the first one located along Milwaukee ave in Niles, and partly because i havent been to the other locations yet...I guess you can say im particularly fond of the cakes that are made here at this bakery for the ingredients are fresh and the cakes are spot on(although i like sweets sweet) the sweetness level is just right! The cake selection can vary from day to day so if you want a particular cake flavor/variety you should order it in advance which is what i usually do! My niece and husband really, really, really wanted to try Paczki Polish sweet treats. I don't know what Fat Tuesday has to do with Paczki sweets, but I guess it is the fact that these are "Fat" Treats. Whatever (oh snap)! There was already a line forming at the front door 30-minutes before opening. I thought "OK, are they giving away free cupcakes today?" No, everyone was lining up to pick up these high-calorie, sugar-loaded sweet treats (not to mention loaded with lots of fat since they are deep fried). I guess a lot of people order these in advance and pick them up super early in the morning. My husband and niece loved the Paczki sweet treats and really enjoyed them. I ordered a half-dozen which is more than enough for two people. I placed an order and got to this small bakery shop 30-minutes before they opened. Wow, a lot of early birds like me were lining up to pick up their Paczki or other sweet treats. I don't do "sweets" so I didn't have any, and took their word that these Paczki treats were awesomeness. My niece and husband both agreed that these are 4-star worthy sweet treats. This bakery is small, but their goodies behind the sparkling clean glass windows were like sweet pieces of fine art work. My niece said her favorite two were the strawberry and cream cheese, while my husband really enjoyed the custard and strawberry. They described them as little puffs of heaven. The employees at this location were very helpful, and despite how busy and crowded the bakery shop was all the employees provided service with a huge smile. This isn't a bakery joint where you can hang-out because it is very, very small. This place is no where near our home-base, but ordering and picking up those Paczki sweets for my two favorite people made it priceless. I didn't mind the drive. I recommend this bakery shop if (a) you live close to this joint (b) are looking to order Eurpean sweet treats. The price-point here varies -- depending on what you order -- however, the final cost for six these Polish Paczki treats were definitely worthy of 5-stars. Sweet Baby Jesus, come to mama! The parking lot is large. This bakery shop is located in a strip mall with a grocery store by the name of Rich's Grocery & Liquors. There is also an Office Max, a Hair Cuttery and an Italian restaurant a few doors away from the Oak Mill Bakery. Service was efficient, hospitable and kind. I was in and out in under 15-minutes. Horrible experience. Ordered a cake for a Girl Scout Gold Award ceremony. Frosting and edging was suppose to be yellow. It was ORANGE. The Girl Scout trefoil was on the cake UPSIDEDOWN. Would not have been so bad but the invitation was attached for an example to follow. When i called they told.me they would.give me a store credit for 25 dollars and NO MORE. No manager, no owner since thy make whomever answer thenphone to be the sounding board. They even confirmed that they saw the information. She said the scanner chanes pictures. I said it clearly states on the paperowrk in ENGLISH yellow frosting and edging. So how does that happen Maybe they need someone who can read english. What a waste if $140.00 . I'd always meant to try the original up on Milwaukee ave., but never managed. So when we ended up outside the bakery, almost by accident, I suggested we stop and see what it was like. I was under the impression that the original is a German bakery, but this particular satellite shop is heavily weighted towards Polish customers (this is a very Polish/Eastern European area.) The gals behind the counter all spoke Polish as did all the customers but us, and a lot of the pastries apparently have a Polish origin or twist. We opted for a pumpkin pie, more out of deference to the fact that we were on our way home to decorate the house for Halloween, and a plum, apricot and cheese kuchen. There were dozens of things which looked good but we couldn't buy everything. The pie was good, not great, and the whipped cream was heavily stabilized so it had that solid, rather oily quality you get with cream treated in that manner. The kuchen was excellent. Nothing on it was too sweet, so that the flavor of the fruit really came through. I thought it was a bit pricey for what we got, but I'm not going to complain because it was that good. I noticed that they had a "day old" section, though we didn't explore it. And there were tables set up for anyone who wanted to enjoy a pastry right there in the shop. I didn't notice any coffee or tea, but then I wasn't really looking for any since we'd just finished brunch. The sales clerks were pleasant enough, and willing to explain what things were to us non-Poles. No problems with the service. I can't say it's the best bakery I've ever been to, but it's a good, solid place with very nice pastry, and I look forward to trying it again. read more

Worst experience I have ever had. I waited 10 minutes to be assisted while employees walked around. I had to ask an employee to help me. Then I the employee asked me what I wanted and barely had any customer service skills. She finally threw the paczki in the box and then proceeded to tell me she didn't have a bag for me when there were bags in plain eyesight. When I asked to speak to a manager I heard laughing in the back and I was told the manager was not on duty. When I finally made it home to enjoy my paczki, they were not fresh and a waste of time and money. I will never go there ever again. I do not recommend this bakery at all. read more

There are two fundamental problems with this bakery. #1...perhaps the most important...is that the pastries are HORRIBLE! They taste terrible and i will never return here for that reason. #2, the prices are outrageous! I could not believe they charged so much money for small pastries that taste disgusting. If you have anywhere else to go for baked goods, do it. Oak Mill is bound to disappoint!!! Yuck. A representative from Oak Mill contacted me to suggest that perhaps I didn't like the pastries because they are European. I am 100% Polish and have been eating Europeans and Polish pastries my entire life. These were simply disgusting...there was nothing redeemable! I had a horrible experience at this bakery. I came in looking to place an order for a cake. To start of, the staff was very rude. Each time I had a question, I had to talk to a different girl because each one kept walking away instead of trying to help. They were not friendly at all, they had an attitude and didn't even smile once! It was quite frustrating. My simple questions weren't even answered. They all looked confused. After spending over 30 mins trying to leave with a cake order and a bad experience, I come to find out that the whole time, I had to place an order via EMAIL! To top it off, I couldn't even get a quote or even an estimated price for what I was looking for which was a simple birthday cake. Seriously? How can the staff not provide prices? I was told they "didn't have that kind of info." I was literally just handed a business card and told to email the office with what I was looking for to see if they could make that possible.
