We've been a Sharp family for a very long time. I have utilized 1-800-82-Sharp to select a new Primary Care physician over the years as my health condition has morphed with age. I selected Dr A because his practice focuses on old people. I visited him for the first time for a "getting to know you" visit. I was 5-Star impressed! The Doc walks into the exam room, mature, confident, and warm as a Burt Lancaster in Field of Dreams. We quietly chatted and Doc says "You see this Dr. You see this other Dr., Piece of cake." He didn't order a follow up, no blood work, no physical, no colon probing mentioned. I could have hugged Dr Allen. I should've, next time. I had a new patient visit today with Dr Russell Hays and WOW! This is actually the first time I've actually felt HEARD. I'm not even kidding. Dr Hays listened to every single one of my concerns and really helped me feel at ease. He was very knowledgeable and you can just tell he actually CARED, which is a really big deal to me after being seen by other doctors who I felt were very dismissive and made me feel like just another patient. I never felt rushed, he addressed all of my questions and concerns, and left me hopeful that together we would get to the bottom of what was going on with me medically. My first words when I called my husband to tell him about the visit were "Wow.. I love this guy!!" Thank you Dr. Hays! Incompetent staff. Doctor might be good but his staff is useless. Apparently they only have 1 person doing referrals it takes her 5-7 business days to submit anything. You could be in pain unable to walk and it doesn't matter because you have to wait until she gets to you to even submit a referral and then wait for the next specialist to have an opening. Unacceptable and ridiculous. Also they only open for 5 hours a day? They close at 1-2pm and Fridays at 12. What kind of medical office has such limited hours? Changing PCP not going back. read more

Due to a staff turnover my last review was not very favorable. However, Dr. Allen has a new staff and they are awesome. Dr. Allen is on time 95% of the time, unlike some other doctors where you have to wait for sometimes up to an hour or more in the waiting room. He takes his time listening to your problems and treats you with care. I definitely would recommend Dr. Allen as your primary doctor. read more

Average doctor office experience. Took my insurance back in the day so I went there. Doctor was kind of old and crabby in my opinion. I told him I use cannabis to help my sleep and was abruptly cut off with "well there is no sick thing as medical Marijuana". Absolutely the rudest person on the phone I have ever spoken with while trying to schedule an appointment. Called to see if I could get an MRI done and the women behind the phone said to call back later. I asked if anyone could help me schedule something and she repeated herself if a very rude manner and said that's why I told you to call back later. Told her I'll take my business elsewhere because of how rude she was and she hung up the phone. Not sure about the service at this place but they for sure need to look at the people answering the phones. read more

I have been going to Dr. Allen for YEARS and he is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. My mother and brother also are patients in his office. Dr. Allen's smile and his calm demeanor help to put anxious patients at ease. When I need something, he does not hesitate to help me. I am 100% comfortable referring people to his practice. The office is VERY BUSY with tons of phone calls and such, but Scott and crew juggle them brilliantly. I am extremely grateful to Dr. Allen for all he has helped me with. After CVS contacted Dr. Allen's office twice, and I called their office twice, they didn't respond to approve a simple refill on medication I need. They had from Tuesday until Friday to do it, and just didn't. They're closed on the weekends, so this left me without medication I need for several days. They now use a calling service to answer their calls, so the receptionist I talked to twice wasn't actually able to talk directly to the doctors. To me this feels absurd and unacceptable. read more

I see Dr. Allen when Fassett is out of the office. I'm a long term patient, by long term I'm talking 20 years. I would say our relationship started out a little forced, rushing me in and out of the office. I will say in the last year or so Dr. Allen has grown on me. He was very proactive when I came in recently for a skin check and he removed the questionable mole for a biopsy... good thing he did, as it was pre canercous. Thanks Dr. Allen! One other thing,I am so happy he got rid of the nurse with long hair and glasses. We just moved to the area and my daughter injured her lip. I was referred to the doctor by my insurance. I made an appointment for my daughter to come in and have it looked at. We got there 15 minutes early and still sat there for 45 minutes before being called in. The nurse checked my daughter's vitals, with no apologies for the long wait...then left us in there for another 30 minutes. I went to the nurse sitting at the desk and asked what the hold up was and she could not give me an answer. 3 people that got there after me were seen before us...again, no explanation. PLEASE READ: This office NO LONGER DRAWS BLOOD for labs at their location. I just paid $50 for a "how do you do", a blood pressure read, temp check and a referral. They really should inform people over the phone when making an appointment, this was a complete waste of my time and money. It is inexcusable to be asked over the phone what you are seeing the doctor for, to tell them "for a blood test only", and then to be told to come in without mentioning that they no longer draw blood. I have been with this office for years, I would have hoped they would have had enough respect for me, and all those years, to at least offer my money back. read more

I previously only saw Dr. Allen for annual exams. So, never really had a good or bad experience. I must say, I hate going to the doctor unless I'm dying. Unfortunately, last week I ended in the ER for breathing difficulties. I followed up with Dr. Allen twice since the incident. He was very knowledgeable and within days of my ER visit, I was finally breathing more than 50% of my lung capacity. He is very personable and kind. His staff is very friendly, especially his nurse. It really does feel like a "family" practice. I am delighted to have him as a doctor...and now less hesitant to wait if there is something wrong with me. read more

Extremely knowledgable. Diagnosed me with compartmental syndrome correctly in the first five minutes of seeing me. It's Extremely rare he knew what it was right away. Dr. Allen rates TEN STARS for competency, kindness, listening, providing multiple solutions and dignity. Besides being completely "up to date" on procedures, the true beauty of this man is his ability to "calm you down" and assure you that any affliction...really...can be handled. He'll say, "really, that's not so bad; there are multiple solutions/procedures for that issue, and new ones every day". Frankly, he provides the BEDSIDE MANNERS sorely missing from some physicians today. This man has never...never let me down. In fact, when I leave his office I feel better already! (That's real-time doctoring!!!) I trust this man with my life, AND the life of my wife. (She's his patient too.) In a pinch, we see his partner, Dr. Fassett, who is wonderful. The front desk staff (we're definitely on a first-name basis) is great and can handle a lot of details (insurance, referrals, out-of-state x-Rays/MRIs) quickly and correctly. If he feels that he needs to refer you to a specialists - he has a network of top tier physicians who can get you the treatment you need so you can get on the mend as soon as possible. * The entire office staff is friendly and professional: Scott and Eric run a tight ship up front to make sure that all the medical "red tape" is complied with so you don't have to deal with your HMO/PPO/POS after you leave. All of the the techs are skilled and certified as to put you at ease before seeing Dr. Allen. In a nut shell - Dr. Joseph E. Allen is one of the smartest and talented physicians I have ever met. They take like 2-3 hour lunch breaks, they close earlier than other offices, and they still try to fine you after you've paid a fine. I missed an appointment, paid the 50$ fine only to have them mail me several more times saying I still owe them 50$. Joseph Allen didn't once make eye contact with me, barley talked to me, barley gave me any time. The nurses were nice everyone else in this office is terrible. Good luck getting an appoitment, they always try to schedule me like 2-4 weeks ahead of when I call. Never going here again. read more

Just got some insurance and Dr. Allen was made my primary doctor. Dr. Allen was pretty good, quickly tackling a list of needs. No complaints. Where the office really shined however was the support staff. I had some blood work done and proceeded to pass out. The four support staff were super sweet and kept checking in as I collected my wits. While I definitely left feeling a bid bad for inconveniencing them, they were all so accommodating and nice. :) read more

WORST DOCTORS EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! PROS: The receptionist was warm and friendly. CONS: Office is super small, and not very well equipped. My appointment was for 11:45 Dr. Allen sashays in at 12:36 almost a freakin hour after my appointment time. During this wait no one came in to say "sorry the doctor is running late" or even the causal "just a few more minutes" nope nothing. So he comes in and literally spent 15 seconds looking at my finger before deciding I need an X-ray and physical therapy all the while saying it looks like a sprain. He then goes on to say sprains usually heal within 4-6 weeks on its own. Ok, if that's the case why the need for the x-ray and physical therapy? To make matters worse I told him I had been experiencing this problem far longer than 6 weeks. If he would have spent more than 15 seconds after I had waited damn near an hour for his lack luster arrival, examining the problem maybe he would of actual come up with a medical diagnosis instead of an off the cuff assumption. NEVER AGIAN!!! Called my insurance company from the parking lot to complain. Seriously the worst doctors visit I have ever endured. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I called and made my husband an appointment well before open enrollment for a physical with Dr Allen. He went in and they basically let him ask questions and have them look at his knee (torn ACL from years ago) because my husband also didn't know it was for a physical. When I called the office after telling my husband to go back in for the blood work information, the nurse got on the phone and tried to tell me that blood work IS a physical. I work in the medical field and know that that is NOT all that a physical is. EXTREMELY disappointed that this office had no idea what he was there for and then tried to lie to me when I called. I made the appointment so I know I set up a physical with blood work. In addition, information he received about his knee was basic information we already knew- obviously he would need X-rays. We have a PPO plan and did not need a referral. AWFUL EXPERIENCE WITH RUDE STAFF. Find another!!!! read more

I visited Dr. Allen a month ago as I had a terrible rash on both legs. He and his staff put a medical wrap with ace bandage and did this for 3 weeks. what a miracle. The rash is 99 % gone. I owe a great thanks to Dr. Allen and his great staff. read more
