I'm in town for a wedding, and my girlfriend needed to get her hair done the day of the wedding. We called in and set up an appointment for the day of the wedding, and thought everything would be fine. All my girlfriend needed to get done was have her hair curled (NOT washed, NOT dried, NOTHING ELSE. JUST CURL). After the stylist was done, my girlfriend was charged $75 (that's SEVENTY FIVE FREAKING DOLLARS)!!!! I cant believe the absurd price of having her hair curled only. And the stylist didn't even do that great of a job, as my girlfriend had to repeatedly direct her how to curl it and add volume to the top and back. Definitely would NEVER go back, just for the sheer absurdity of their prices. read more

I had my highlight done my Doree. Words cannot express how amazing she was with me. After having my twins (4 yrs old now) I lost a significant amount of hair. I don't even know where to begin. I have had years of damage in my hair and very bad cuts. I had what I thought was somewhat curly hair, but it never seemed healthy. I went to Doree looking for a specific color. She was amazing from the start. We did an online consultation and she was confident that she could give me what i wanted. When I arrived, she explained that I would have to wait for the color blocking because she did not want to damage my hair anymore. I agreed. She studied my skin tone and my eye color and said she was going to match my eye color. I was thrilled it was exactly what i was looking for. Then she explained to me that she would cut my hair to showcase my curls without sacrificing length. i was skeptical about the curls because it has always been some crazy waves to no waves, no curls. Well, when I was done....i was astounded. The color was perfect....i had curls i never knew existed....AND then she blew the cut out straight and I was amazed. I truly don't think I have ever been happier with my hair even weeks later. She is truly an artist who could work anywhere in the world and I feel so fortunate to have found her. 1 Stars for inflexible policy, bad, uncheck color. After being a loyal customer, a new hairdresser made a mistake with my teenage daughter highlights. After being sent home with wet hair, her hair dried to an unnatural brassy yellow with a green tone. Previous colorist checked on finished, dry hair color. We went back and a kind experienced, colorist tried to correct it - the color was shifted to darker, slightly red tone, covering all highlights. We were told we could come back as many times as it took to correct the unwanted odd, coloring. that this color correction might take time. But the damage was done and my kid could not go back to this salon for multiple visits. Her hair had previously only had very light, natural highlights. We went to the original stylist, who was now at another location, HARU, and the situation was corrected for half the costs at Allendale and my daughter was happy. After calling the Allendale Hair Salon 6 times to speak to the owner to request a refund or partial refund, he return my call and said, if he gave me a refund, he would have to give everyone a refund. That I could come back as many times as it took to correct the color. I explained that this was a kid, who would not return multiple times to have her hair color corrected from the original natural high lights. I asked if he would exercise his discretion to give a partial refund. I appealed calmly to him that the $180., including the tips was a lot of money, that went to the original colorist at another salon and did have what happened corrected in one session for half the price. He said he did not believe it and asked me how I found this other colorist who had worked for him, it was odd. The HARU salon my daughter went to in Ho-Ho-kus was a younger, better fit for my daughter, more up to date, as well as better financially, and they did not add on extra procedures to raise the price. This is the first time I have ever posted, I understand making mistakes, it was that this man would not even consider a partial refund for his stylist errors, that coming back several times was not an option in this case and I did spend quite a bit on previous visits to this salon. read more

I just recently started going to AHS after my sister raved about Doree and her unbelievable talent when it comes to coloring. I was so happy to see that my younger sister knew what she was talking about. My hair was washed out after coloring and hilights that I had been doing for years. Doree spent time with me, asking me questions about my hair and what I was looking to obtain. I just wanted my deep brown, shiny hair back that nature gave me, well little did I know that Doree was able to mimick nature, but she did. I left there thrilled with the color and softness that had eluded me for years. After my great experience with Doree, I decided to try a facial with Enza, which was unbelievable. Enza is not only a sweetheart, but so proffesional. She had my skin, looking great after only one visit. I was so happy, that I went back the following month and received a Glycolic facial, which was amazing. I walked out of there feeling like I glowed, which I apparently did, according to family and friends. I wouldn't go anywhere else. It is so refreshing to find a salon, that raises the bar in all the areas. It is too common to find one place that does hair well and another for skin care, apparently AHS employs competant professionals in all areas. After attending a fundraiser for a very sick friend, I had won the prize of multiple gift certificates to this salon. I was involved in a move at the time so I had misplaced them. Recently, I have been going through a very stressful time and needed some R&R. I came across the gift certificates which I thought was a blessing in disguise but I was wrong. The salon refused to honor any of the gifts. I would have been more than happy to tip accordingly and be gracious of their time but unfortunately I did not get the chance. As someone that works in the Spa and Wellness field, I recognize that as bad business. Next time they shouldn't bother donating their time.
