this is my 2nd review for Doree as for some reason my first one isn't on YELP. I am going into my 1 year anniversary with DOREE and my hair is BEAUTIFUL! i have curly hair and since i started seeing Doree i am getting more compliments on my hair from color to texture. i have tried tons of salons and was never 100% happy. they all said that they are experts in curly hair from cut to color and the proof was in my hair. after reading some reviews on Doree, i figured let me check her out and she sat with me for almost 45 mins describing how she sees my hair and future hair. Before going to her i had some really dry patches on my scalp that i believe came from the products used at the previous salon. After my first visit at Allendale my scalp was healed. she uses Tocco Magico and it works wonders! I just trust Doree in all her decision - from cutting to what new color enhancements to my hair. when I've gone to other salons i would tell them what i want. which wasn't always the correct thing for me, my complexion or type of curls. With Doree, I've learned that i what i want isn't what goes best for me. She gradually changes the color that would best fit my complexion. Recently, I was surprised by this salon's lack of flexibility, professional communication, and overall disregard in respecting and valuing their costumers. I never have written a review on any place before, but I really felt something needed to be said. This was my fourth time coming to this salon and I asked for a brown balayage, only to receive coppery highlights that I was not satisfied with. Long story short, the colorist and I went back and fourth on Instagram messenger, not even a phone call (and I had called the next day to try to speak with the colorist to no avail.) After, 2.5 weeks, she finally got back to me with a day to see me. I had called the salon to respectfully explain the situation and my discontent. I was hoping they would at least give me a gift card with the value of what I paid, not even a full or half refund. To my disbelief, the manager stated that the owner was not willing to compromise, and in the end I am not receiving any form of compensation. Their only solution was for me to see the colorist again, and at this point, I am taking my business elsewhere. Allendale Hair Studio, although having some talented stylists, charges high prices for poor customer service and a lack of professionalism. read more

My sister just moved to Jersey and found this salon. I decided last minute I wanted to go with her and decided to call and see if I could get a last minute appointment. I was expecting them to say no because I wanted a long color process done and only called 4 days ahead of time. The receptionist (Kristen I believe) was one of the nicest receptionists I have ever talked to. Even though there wasn't time available for me, she said she would try and work something out and call me back. Not even an hour later she calls and she changed the schedule around and got me in and also at the same exact time as my sister! She was so nice and accommodating so after talking to her I wasn't nervous at all about trying a new salon. I had my hair done by Kristen and my sister saw Doreè. Both of our hair came out AMAZING and not only that but they made the experience so much fun and we laughed the whole time. We both left with exactly what we asked for and couldn't be happier. Even though I don't live in the area I will definitely be making the trip back and forth so Kristen can do my hair. If you want your hair to come out exactly how you ask for it and have a fun/relaxing experience while there, then I highly recommend this salon!! read more

Olivia was more professional and personable than I could have ever expected. I had not received a professional haircut in about a decade (I am a man who has clipped his own hair for years), and I suffer from OCD, making the entire process something that I avoid at all costs. Convinced by my wife to finally get a professional styling, I was really nervous about it. Olivia made me feel comfortable, respected all of my particular wishes (including my discomfort with the washing of my hair and the use of straight razors), and provided a wonderful conversation about a number of subjects. I left happy and with a great haircut that my wife also loved. I can't say enough about Olivia's professionalism and demeanor. I will recommend her services to anyone I can, male or female, and I have no doubt that she will provide them with the same wonderful experience that I had. Like most people, I used to have a phobia about getting my hair cut/colored after having my share of hair disasters. With that said, after meeting Olivia I am absolutely confident I've found a hair dresser who actually listens to AND understands what I want. She has taken me from flat, dead, lifeless hair to full and vibrant flowing hair. I was recently torn between wanting to cut it off, doing something extreme and wanting it big and full with vibrant color. She recommended doing something in between and I am so in love with it! Being up to date and well versed with the latest techniques, she used balayage(if youve never heard of it look it up, she killed it) to blend my rich dark roots with a beautiful, funky pink at my ends. She also added more dimension with some layers and I couldnt be happier with the result. It's exactly what I wanted and she executed it perfectly. I am confident I have found my forever hair dresser. I have been battling my hair for YEARS. As a natural blonde, I made the mistake of dying it box red (ew) and the first person to ever bring it back to life was Olivia. More often than not when I got to get my hair done, the hair dresser is unfamiliar with the style I want or just not up to date on the latest trends. Olivia is young, energetic, and the type of person you want to talk to for hours. She knew exactly what I wanted and executed it perfectly. At the time I had never heard of Olaplex and with her recommendation, we were able to go from brass to blonde in just one day! She gave me a ton of advice for after care and kept me well informed throughout the entire process. Olivia is a life saver in my opinion. This is my 3rd visit to Allendale Hair Studio and I wanted to share what a great salon it is! The salon staff are so gracious and welcoming! It's very well managed, with a warm and unpretentious atmosphere. I followed my stylist Jen there from her previous salon, but I would follow Jen anywhere. Jen is truly a master artist when it comes to styling and color. She always gives me a great cut, color and highlights. My hair looks healthy, sleek and beautifully styled. Allendale Hair salon is comfortable and all the stylists are always friendly & in a good mood. Front desk always makes an effort to accommodate my work/travel schedule. Center of town so can get errands done before/after appointments. Plenty of parking options. I searched for close to 30 yrs for a stylist that had the expertise to cut long curly hair properly. Doree is truly a gem! Honest and so incredibly sweet! She is so talented and amazing at what she does. She truly knows color and the products she uses are so gentle. Nothing ever burns or smells like what has happened in the past at other salons. When someone googled the best colorist in Bergen County for me years ago, Doree was it and they were spot on with her.
