Meh, The wedge salad was very good and the bacon lardons were fabulous. There is a great sear on the steaks, but any flavor is coming from the ton of butter that they use, the mashed potatoes were flavorless and the brussel sprouts were nearly raw. We were there at 4 pm on a Sunday and were the only people there, still the service was abysmal. See the photo of the stacked dirty dishes that sat on the table for at least 15 minutes before I finally got up to look for our server who was always on his phone. He never smiled, never filled our water or wine, never checked on how we liked the food and never came over to the table to clean up or take our order, unless we went to find him.The seafood platter was good but the shrimp tasted like iodine and we had to spit it out. read more

I don't consider myself the best cook, but the quality of the steaks doesn't beat the steaks I buy from ShopRite. We made a reservation for 8 pm and they were on time, although loud it's not too over crowded. Someone came right away to pop open our bottle of wine, slapped it on that table and said "Enjoy!" I had to pour my own wine which was good because I needed the rest of it to get through this meal. Their specials were sold out by the time we arrived so we ordered off the regular menu and got the seafood platter,porterhouse for one and a bone in rib eye. The seafood platter came out quickly and was fresh, so that was the highlight of dinner. Our steaks came out soon after but no one bothered to replace our side plates so we had no where to put our creamed spinach. The steaks are obviously precooked and then thrown under the broiler. I know this because my steak was precut, and char broiled on the top. The bottoms was barely seared. I had to taste the cream spinach out of the dish it was served in which was basically just a frozen creamed spinach you could buy at the grocery store. I could say say more about the poor quality of the steaks but I will let the pictures speak for themselves. We were in and out in one hour, which I guess was good but it was probably only because we looked so unhappy. The redeeming quality was the free "desert" from the server who never checked on us. It was a huge scoop of home made whipped cream with fresh berries. Honestly for the price I could've cooked at home for $30. I had to apologize to my husband profusely because I suggested this place. read more

We just moved to Wyckoff (next town over from Allendale) from NYC and tried this place for the first time. Full disclosure: coming from the city, we can be steakhouse snobs. We have been everywhere - Luger's, Sparks, etc. this place is right up there with some of the best steaks in the city. The meat was buttery (in a good way) and with just the right "sweetness" that a good steak should have. Full of flavor. The mushrooms side was ok, wedge salad above average (the bacon bits were great), and the home fries, well done, were terrific. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. What a great find. My husband got the steak it was okay, not bad, not great just okay. I got a lobster tail it was horrible, overcooked, dry, and they put some kind of spice on the top that overwhelmed the flavor of the dried out tail. I thought maybe we ate there on a bad night, however I met someone who had the same Lobster Tail experience. I hate putting bad reviews ups, but I really hope they read this and get rid of that spice and cook the tails better. read more

Did not hit the mark for us. Based on the prices we expected a great dining experience. I got the filet mignon and my husband got the NY strip steak. We order the broccoli and spinach sides. They brought us complimentary salads - but dressing was bland. Both of our steaks arrived cooked beyond our order request. They were on the dry side with not much flavor. They did offer to give us replacement steaks but we declined due to our available time. We did not order dessert, but they gave us a free dessert - I guess as an offering for our overcooked steaks. Totally reminded me of Peter Lugar's and it was just as delicious if not better. If you are in the mood for a great steak done right, this is the place to go. Also, BYO saves a lot of money and there is a liquor store with a great wine selection a couple doors down. The bacon is a MUST for appetizer. So, so, delicious and a very generous portion. We were a party of 4 and the 2 slabs were totally satisfying. We also split the porter house for 2, an excellent decision, and the cottage fries were pretty good but they are homemade thin potato chips. Should have gone with the steak fries or mashed potatoes, but there's always next time. Only negative was the extremely noisy drunk table close to us. Made the room extremely loud and a bit irritating at times. Not really the place to be passing around endless bottles of vodka and taking shots, but that isn't the restaurant's fault. Didn't know this place existed until a family friend told us about it and so glad it was introduced to my family! We came here for my dads birthday on a Friday evening at 8pm with a party of 6. We sat down promptly upon arrival even though the restaurant was packed. It's BYOB so we had a few bottles opened up while we looked at the menu. We split the seafood tower for 4 ppl (lobsters, crab, clams, oysters and shrimp) as well as 2 wedge salads to start. All of the seafood was incredibly fresh. The wedge salads had super thick cut bacon on them that was delicious! For mains each pair ordered the porterhouse for 2 ranging from rare medium. Our rate steak was cooked perfectly. It has so much place and came pre-cut and was then served to you. The steak sauce was fantastic...wish they sold it!! We also had a bunch of sides to split for the table...broccoli rabe, spinach, mashed potatoes and hash browns. For dessert, we were able to bring our own birthday cake, which was cut and served. Great dinner and would definitely come back. Recommend it for a special occasion or when in the mood for steak! read more

It's an Allendale institution. Deco is slightly colonial, slightly dated but comfortable. Menu is familiar and appeals to just about everyone. We have only had the burgers and steaks so I can't speak to the whole menu but everything we have had has been consistently good. No big standouts here, just good and consistent plates. Living in NYC, I have grown to love Peter Luger's in Brooklyn, but Eddie and the team at the Allendale Steak House have matched it here in New Jersey. This is the best steak house in New Jersey! We started off with the Seafood Tower (included lobster, fresh crab meat, oysters, and more) - All the very best, fresh seafood. For our main course, we got a couple Porterhouse's for the table and they were spectacular. I actually think the porterhouse here is better than Peter Luger's. The service was also top notch. Max and Dan were our waiters and did an outstanding job. The dessert menu was spectacular as well...I highly recommend the Pecan Pie and the Ice Cream Sundae (with a cappuccino on the side). Hubby and I came here for a date night. Cute outdoor area and with a reservation we only had to wait a few minutes. Saturday night prime time. Love that's it's a byo which is pretty standard in this area Bergen County. It was very loud. People are definitely having a good time lots of laughter and chatting. We both discussed how this is a place to go with friends for a great dinner and maybe not so much date night. In fact we were the only couple as we looked around the room. Maybe it was just an off dating night but definitely an observation. Let's talk steak. Hubby and I split the porterhouse for 2. I mean WOW. No need to travel to NYC for a steak! Allendale is on par with all of the greats! They make you feel at home. They will make you feel at home and to top it off they are BYOB. You must try the bacon! Came here for a special birthday dinner the other night. At first I was a little worried because the restaurant was empty at 6pm but the restaurant quickly filled up within a half an hour. The staff is wonderful and super attentive. Such a wonderful experience and the meal was not too shabby! We started with the stuffed mushrooms and seafood platter for one. The platter is gigantic! Then we ordered the porterhouse for 2, medium rare, with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Steak was a little more on the medium side and could have used just a tad more salt but we got wonderful table side service. When it came to dessert, we were stuffed but saved a little room for the old fashioned apple strudel. We saw something on the menu that we weren't familiar with, Schlog with berries, so we asked the waiter what it was. He explained to us that it was a thick German whipped cream topped with fresh berries but we decided to go with just the strudel despite the Schlog sounding delicious. To our surprise, the waiter brought us a tasting, a very generous one, and it was GLORIOUS!!! IT WAS AMAZING!!! Giving this place 5 stars because of their top notch service. I came here for a post Christmas Dinner with my fiance. I just yelped the place so did not know what I was getting in to when I was served with their food. What I would like to let people know that this place is BYOB. Yes, that means that you are able to bring your own wine of your choice to match the fantastic steak that they serve here. I do believe that the steak is a little bit more expensive but not ordering the alcoholic drinks make it up for it. We were first served with the bread. Yes, it is a simple dinner bread but wow it's perfected. It was not lukewarm but almost hot to touch. It melted the butter very well. The taste? I'd just "eat this and call it a day" good. Now for the appetizers, we had classic Caesar's salad and oysters. Yes, needless to say, they were all good. I think anyone can make a good salad, but the oysters were fresh. We had our taste buds thanking us for treating them with something so good before the real main course was delivered. We had porterhouse for 2. I really din't care if the chef was from Peter Luger's. I took the steak as how it was served. Just wow, came out perfectly as how we stated (Medium Rare) and the char on the steak was perfect. The skin of the steak had a slight salty taste with dry aged inside, flavors bursted. I did like the steakhouse that was close to where I live for the longest time but I am sure Allendale Steak House was better. Everything was good but one thing that might create a problem might be the valet parking.
