Bit disappointed with my time here. But I'll start with the positives. The interior and exterior dining areas are great. Especially the outdoor. There are so many seats and it is under a cover to block the sun. Great to eat outside on a nice day and there is a parking lot right outside this restaurant, which is in a strip mall. The servers are also attentive and the food comes out quick. However, the food left a lot to be desired. The bread service was a bit disappointing. It tasted quite plain, which is quite surprising considering it was garlic butter as well. The surf burger was also okay and the deserts were underwhelming. Overall a bit blah. Would love to elaborate more but my takeaway is just that: eh. One thing i will add is the cookie in the ice cream sandwich did not taste fresh which is very disappointing. I did not finish it. They have both indoor and outdoor (heated) seating. The outdoor may get chilly especially during the winter so I'd advise wearing something comfy and cozy. The service was pretty good; our server was a sweetheart. The hostess did awkwardly ignore me when I went back inside to speak to her. Otherwise, it was a good time. Unfortunately, they were out of the burrata and steak frites, but we think we were on the later side for dinner reservations. They serve their bread with a candle of herbed garlic butter in the middle. It was delicious and nice to look at. We enjoyed the ahi tuna appetizers and tacos. We also loved the crispy artichokes. For an entree I had the ahi tuna salad. It was very good! The portions are reasonable and not overwhelming. Everything we tried was very satisfying! I would definitely come back. For a brunch/lunch menu it did not have many breakfast options. I had attempted to order a matcha latte and was told they ran out of match, understandable but a bit surprising. I then ordered a flat white which I'm pretty sure was a latte but it was fine I drank it no problem. For our meals my friend ordered the cafe burger which he absolutely recommended this place based off the fries that come with the meal. WOW! Their fries are thinner, crispier, and seasoned with old bay which was phenomenal. I ended up ordering the crabcake sandwich as it came highly recommended by our server. I will say there is a great amount of crab to breading ratio for the price and the crab cake was good. The coleslaw and Remoulade on the sandwich were very watery so it made both the cake and bun very mushy and less enjoyable but it was still edible. I would recommend getting the coleslaw and Remoulade on the side. Again the fries are outstanding and beyond flavorful. The inside of the cafe is beautiful, clean, and modern. We were very disappointed with the Mother's Day buffet. First of all, they didn't mention it would be a buffet style when making a reservation which they should have. The price was much higher than expected for the selection offered. When charging $59 per person for brunch, the least they could have done is include drinks (juice and coffee) with the meal. Children under 12 were $25 which I think should have been the charge for all patrons considering the limited options. There wasn't even fruit as a brunch option. Unfortunately, the food also did not seem fresh. That should be a given. The pastries were stale. The omelettes were not cooked through and runny. The seafood was water logged from being frozen. Overall the quality was not what we're used to here. That said, we've had many good experiences in the past, which is why this visit was surprising. The restaurant usually serves very good food and has been a place we've enjoyed before. Hoping this was just an off day due to the holiday rush, because we know they're capable of much better. Went here for lunch the other day on a gorgeous day and was able to sit outside. I have been to the cafe for brunch over a year ago, but at that time they were just starting to building the outdoor patio and it's lovely and tucked away on the side away from the bush parking lot. I ordered the Baja fish tacos and was blown away. The cod in the tacos was massive and fried in a light airy batter. The batter was insanely crispy and the cod was still perfectly tender. The mango slaw in the taco was also juicy and flavorful. For dessert I shared the chocolate chip bread pudding, which came in two triangle pieces (perfect for sharing) and oh my gosh it was delicious. The top was brûléed and have the most amazing crunch. The bread pudding itself was so incredibly moist on the inside and had so many chocolate chips. This dessert was everything and I wish I could have it every day! The staff was also so nice accommodating. They didn't bug us and let me and my friend chat we'll past the end of lunch. I love this place and love that I can get a more casual version of the amazing Saddle River Inn food here. If I could come here everyday I would. Highly recommend! read more

They were clearly cooked together, but I'm guessing the cook did not rotate the pan. The short rib had a boiled texture and had a flavor similar to a classic pot roast. The potatoes were not under cooked, but just barely done, good for those who like a firm texture, but I like my potatoes quite a bit softer. My wife ordered the Crab cake Benedict. She liked it. However this was the first time we've seen a crab cake with a burned crust. Only one side was burned. The menu sounds better than it tastes. Perhaps it was a new cook, but it seemed lazily prepared. It was close to opening and the restaurant was almost empty. Perhaps they were still doing prep, but our meals did not taste like they were given the proper attention. I don't plan on returning. My wife stated that she would not go back either. YUCK! Three of us went to the cafe for a friend's birthday. I was looking forward to the Wedge salad with steak. The menu CLEARLY that there is avocado on the salad. Sounds great! BUT.... What a wonderful evening - we were warmly greeted upon arrival, and the owner (Peter) came to welcome us as we were seated (and even opened and served our wine!) (BYOB). The food was outstanding. For our starter, we shared the "Flat Bread of the Day" which was a traditional Margherita - a simple preparation, however the high-quality ingredients made it a special treat. For mains, we had the Salmon Special - miso-marinated with grilled asparagus and citrus-kissed wild black rice; and the Prime Short Ribs over Polenta (with a delicious brown gravy). Here's the bad news: It's not the Saddle River Inn, though the same people own both. Here's the good news: you can actually get a reservation at the cafe, without getting up at midnight a month in advance like you do to reserve a table at the Inn. The food is good, although not comparable to the Inn's, and the menu is quite limited. The "wedge" salad is very good, with an unusual presentation. My truffle burger was excellent, and my wife's tuna was good, although she said she wished the portion were bigger. Service was prompt and cordial, and the chef was very accommodating in modifying his usual preparation to meet my wife's dietary needs. Overall, very good -- if there were a few more choices on the menu, it would be 5-star. BYOB. Any credits or gift cards you have from the Inn cannot be used here. read more

I have been for brunch/lunch three times, and have been consistently underwhelmed. Today the eggs Benedict came room temperature, probably sitting for some time. The English muffin was not toasted. And they forgot the salad. When the salad arrived, the tomatoes were not fresh. So. For the cost, I think lunch/brunch needs to be somewhere else. So sorry read more
