Another deformed chicken wing exactly one year later come on guys in the kitchen take a look at what you're putting on the plates
    Jeff L.

I've been coming to Privateer ever since the second year they opened. They are always known for a very delicious dining experience. They do have some very unique items on their menu that are very good. The staff is always Pleasant and helpful. As far as Ambience goes I've always enjoyed the atmosphere there. But an interesting story last year when I checked in at Privateer I noticed one of my wings was really warped and dilapidated. I did mention it to the waitress and I took a picture and actually posted it. The general manager was very congenial with his reply. But now almost 1 year later to the exact day I brought my granddaughter there for lunch. I ordered wings knowing that they would be not bad. But low and behold they served me the exact dilapidated wing a year later. I showed my granddaughter and she said ooh gross. I didn't bother to mention anything to the waitress I left most of the Wings at the table. I cannot say I will ever go back to Privateer. But a word of advice have your Chef look at what you put on your plate that's the presentation you're giving to the public. The wings were very dry and not really edible anyways. But then to have that one loan puppy looking so gross just put it over the top. I'm sorry Privateer I can't come back and I also can't recommend your restaurant.

Cozy casual spot that appeals to all age ranges. Saw lots of young families and retirement-aged folks, and everything in between. One side is a bustling restaurant with a bar and open kitchen. The other is a quieter, brighter wine bar and market. We came for happy hour and sampled a variety of items. Caesar salad was overly dressed, but otherwise good. Note to self: ask for dressing on the side next time. Fettuccine with meatballs tasted more like a kids meal not in a bad way, just very basic. Cajun wings were delicious. Pepperoni pizza was also pretty basic, but that's what you want from a pepperoni pizza. Overall, solid spot for a chill night.

Privateer is a cool local spot in a small store complex along Coast Highway. They have three distinct seating areas. The patio with picnic tables, all outside so pups welcome, and essentially a part of the parking lot. Great for the wonderful SoCal weather. The main room, which is loud, lively and very casual. The "back room" which has a bit more of a wine bar feel with wine bottles for pick-up it is more open and airy. The star of the menu is their coal fired pizza. They have so many options from curated selections to build your own. Our first time we each got a pie, the chemistry and I think the cheese pie. This more recent time we opted for the Chemistry again, but did it half without the veggies. We got the roasted chicken wings and the Caesar salad to start. The wings had a really nice crispness and crunch even with the buffalo sauce and I had wondered if they perhaps were fried wings before I reread they were roasted. The service was great. Very attentive and friendly. I need to plan to come for one of their comedy nights.

Privateer Coal Fire Pizza is one of those places you stumble into once and then keep coming back to because it never misses. I found this spot on a trip with an old friend, and from day one it's been consistently solid. The pizza is outstanding--perfectly cooked with that coal-fire flavor--but honestly, the entire menu delivers. The salads are fresh, the wings are on point, and no matter what you order, it feels like care was put into it. This is the kind of place where it's hard to go wrong. Hospitality here is top tier. Friendly, laid-back, and welcoming, with that relaxed Oceanside vibe that makes you want to hang out a little longer than planned. Heads up on parking--it's tight, and this place gets packed, so you may have to walk a bit. But trust me, it's worth it. The food more than makes up for the extra steps. A reliable favorite that continues to deliver every single time.

If you are in the mood for delicious coal firing pizza with fresh ingredients and delicious toppings, Privateer Coal Fire pizza is the perfect answer to satisfy your craving. Their menu includes Charcuterie, salad, tacos, vegan toast, chicken wings, roasted cauliflower, mussels, mahi mahi Taquitos, meatballs, soup, various types pizza pie, burgers, sandwiches and more I ordered ; -Margherita Pies 5/5 The toppings were light and flavorful tomato sauce, Fior di Latte, fresh basil, extra virgin olive oil. The crust was perfect. The mixture between rich, creamy and delicate Fior di Latte cheese and the tangy flavorful tomato sauce made this pizza very savory. - Mahi Mahi Taquitos 5/5 It was really delicious, it had cilantro, pico de gallo, shredded cheddar and lettuce. I was surprised when I read that they were selling cookies from the famous Rustic Bakery. It is located in Sonoma County. They serve handmade high quality goods. It was amazing. I ordered Rustic Bakery Chocolate Nib Cookies and Rustic Bakery Pecan Shortbread. They were soft, flavorful and perfectly delicious. It was very convenient to order cookies with pizza. What a fun meal! Privateer is such a great. I was impressed with the quality and the flavorful taste of their pizza. It is the best pizza I have had in a long time.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of pizza, but my husband is, so we decided to try a new place. We came across this spot and ended up loving it way more than expected we would definitely go back. I will say, it's located in a pretty busy area and the parking lot isn't very big, so you may have to find street parking, which can be a little inconvenient. That aside, the location itself is really nice and spacious with a great setup, and they also offer outdoor seating, which is a plus. Our waitress was also very friendly and pleasent. The menu has a good variety of options, we tried the CLSICS pizza which has birria and it was amazing, we also tried the parm fries (not the best). Even as someone who doesn't usually gravitate toward pizza, I was pleasantly surprised. Overall, a great experience and definitely worth checking out.

Yo! Captain 619 here -- cruised into Privateer Coal Fire Pizza down in Oceanside and had a rad little sesh with their pies. The whole coal-fired idea sounded gnarly in the best way, and while I couldn't actually taste "coal," the crust had a cool, unique char and smoky vibe that set it apart from the usual spots. We tried a small cheese and tossed some pineapple on one for a Hawaiian twist -- tasty and fun, but next time I'm going big with a plain cheese to really see what their oven does. Vibes: chilled SoCal, good for a post-surf feed. Service was friendly, pizza came out solid. Score: 3.5/5 -- would definitely ride back for another round.

This is my second time ordering from them. Decided to give them another chance. Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza was not good. The crust in the center 1/3 of the pizza was saturated and mushy. This is due to their rushing adding toppings as most of the sausage was at the center of the pizza. The toppings are not spread evenly across the top of the pizza. Margherita Pie was a joke. The dough on the pizza was very dry and the basil on top was heavily wilted. Tasted terrible. The difference between what the menu shows and what I got was a shocking! I posted picks on my yelp page. Get it together guys. This is basic stuff! You are close to having a great pizza but your team screws it up every time.

This place is my boyfriend's favorite pizza place. We got a basket of garlic parm fries that were good but a little pricey. We tried the new Fig and Hot Honey pizza. Also good, but it was a bit too sweet for our taste. Definitely coming back to try more!

My husband and I love that we can usually walk right in and be seated and served right away. They have been a local favorite for years and can get quite busy, so be prepared to wait. Their parking lot isn't too big, so you can always find street parking instead. Our last server was very welcoming, kind, and attentive throughout our dining experience. We quickly ordered the SurfRide pie and the GF Cheese Pie with garlic roasted mushrooms. My husband and I enjoyed both pizza pies, but the SurfRide definitely stood out. There was just so much flavor in each bite. Next time I will definitely order the SurfRide as gluten-free for myself instead. I still loved the custom cheese pie as the garlic roasted mushrooms were just delicious. I thought their gluten-free crust was honestly amazing as I could barely taste the difference between the regular crust and the gf one. The only visible difference is the gf crust is flatter (as expected though). Honestly anything on their menu is delicious, and you can't go wrong with any order. If the weather is nice, I highly suggest sitting outside as it is worth it!

Came here on a rainy day. The parking for this place is small, but the food is so delicious. They also had an all day happy hour when we came. The pizza was very yummy and service was also good.

Privateer was a lovely find on a Saturday night. We went just before closing and it was pretty quiet. The restaurant has a retro feel to it. The red leather booths really feel nostalgic. It's a family owned and operated establishment, which made it feel that much more special. Our server was wonderful and made sure we had everything we needed. They were starting to close up for the night, but we didn't feel rushed to leave. The drinks were pretty good and the pizza was even better. Definitely want to come back and check out more of their menu.

My hubby and I have been eating to try this place every time we come to Oceanside and we finally did! The food was so delicious my only complaint would be I feel like my pizza needed more sauce. Strive was great and we really felt at home will definitely be back!

Honestly, my ideal spritz. Crudo: Highly recommend this starter! It featured thick cuts of yellowtail, watermelon, cucumber, ginger, thai chili, and thai basil. Really clean and fresh. I was surprised by the amount of fish we got! Local Catch: Another winner. This was roasted yellowtail with summer bean, tomato ragout, and Jimmy Nardello peppers. Absolutely no notes! Rigatoni: Our standout dish of the night! It featured summer squash, saffron butter squash blossoms, blistered tomatoes, and parmesan. I was pleasantly surprised by the chewy texture of the complimentary bread offered at Paon, and one bite took me back to the streets of Paris where I strolled along the Seine River munching on my baguette. Our waiter only offered one small piece each, so I had to ask for a second piece. If my meal were just the bread alone, this would have been a 5-star review. Unfortunately, my dining experience declined after the bread... I ordered the Organic Beet Salad, and it was a disappointing stack of 3 round pieces of beets, each 1/4 inch thick and 2 inches in diameter, topped with arugula and small pieces of pistachios sparsely scattered on the plate. My friend and I looked at each other and asked, "what happened to the rest of the salad?!" Seriously, $21 for 3 pieces of beets?? My friend ordered the French Onion Puree for $19 and got a regular sized serving so we continued to ponder what happened to my beet salad. It was the joke of the evening. This dish was an unconventional spin off the traditional French onion soup, and sadly, while it was a creative idea, it failed to deliver in taste. My favorite thing about French onion soup is the gooey gruyere cheese. There was a small dollop of melted brie on top and that was it. It was a disappointment, but not nearly as sad as my beet salad. For my entree, I ordered the Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass $55. The fish was very tender, but the dish itself was extremely buttery and oily. I ordered this dish because I wanted something healthy, but it turned out to be a very heavy dish. The basil beurre blanc was just too overwhelmingly rich. My friend ordered the Seared Rare Hawaiian Yellowfin Tuna $52. The execution on this dish was better than mine. For dessert, we shared a Creme Brulee $18. We did not like this dessert because it was room temperature and tasted like it had been sitting out for hours. We like it chilled but with the hard sugary glaze. The top wasn't torched enough. Overall, while we enjoyed the ambiance, we did not really care for the food (except the amazing bread). Seeing how much we enjoyed the bread, it would've been nice had our waiter been more generous and offered us more bread. A good server would be more proactive and not wait to be asked.

You can truly taste the quality and care that goes into every dish. And the desserts... INSANE! Seriously, do not leave without trying dessert. Everything we've had has been amazing from beginning to end. What makes this place even more special is the service. It is exceptional. The owners are so personable, welcoming, and genuinely wonderful people. You immediately feel the warmth and hospitality from the moment you walk in. I also love that this is a truly authentic Italian restaurant, owned and operated by Italians who clearly have a passion for great food and making their guests feel at home. Amazing food, incredible desserts, outstanding service, and wonderful owners -- this place is an absolute gem. We absolutely love it and will continue coming back! Because I'm a Fighter IYKYK

We were seated in a small room off the main dining area, and we were the only ones in the room. Our waiter was friendly, but he was also taking care of tables in the main dining area, so we were often left on our own without anyone checking in on us. It also took quite a while before we were able to place our order. I ordered one of the mushroom pasta dishes, and unfortunately, I found it to be lacking in flavor. Someone else in our party ordered one of the specials, a steak, and that looked absolutely delicious. Overall, I was hoping for a better experience, especially since we were celebrating a birthday. While our waiter was nice, the slow service and lack of flavor in my meal left me unimpressed. Based on this experience, I don't think I would return.
