I think I was lucky because I heard the mechanic pretty busy. And ... hurray. It starts better, it runs better, and so far it hasn't stalled out again. And ... the cost was quite fair. Since I avoid big box stores when I can, I have only this simple comparison. Last year I needed pressure treated 2x4 sticks for firewood racks. They were maybe 25% less at a big box store but then I found out the cheaper ones are not rated for ground contact. Those that I later bought at Allerdice were. The difference was worth it to me. I'm not a fanatic about shopping locally. I do shop online, but when I can, I go local.

There is always friendly staff around to ask questions and they seem to know just when to ask if you need help. They even invited to be browse as long as I want. I personally like that the store has a sort of corner shop vibe although it's not exactly small. The store is airways well lit and aisles are clearly labeled, and again the staff here have been exceptionally helpful. The news BBQ section in the back atrium is impressive even if I'm not the biggest cook in the family. And I also saw a custom shirt section although by the looks of it, I may be able to customise more than t-shirts. I hope they keep improving and stay open for a long time.

On the other, it is bigger than smaller greenhouses and supply centers. You'll get a good variety at any Hewitt's, but sometimes not the cheapest price. Their Garden and Holiday Decorating Club Card helps there ($25 credit for each $250 spent). My visit today was way too early for outdoor plants to be available, but they good sales on seeds and bulbs, and a lot of Easter decorations available. They always have great holiday decorations. Near that you'll find all the yard and garden supplies you need. When the weather warms up, you'll be able to choose from a wide variety of flowering and non-flowering plants, shrubs, trees, bushes, etc. I've also been able to find items here which have been harder to find in big-box plant departments. For example, today I found a uniquely sized clay flowerpot, a size and shape I had not found at any of the aforementioned big box plant departments. And that's just the stuff I've bought over the past few months. They've got tons more stuff, most of which I don't even know what it is because I'm an unhandy city boy. Perhaps this is a small-town thing, but the staff here seems like they know...everything. They've got valuable advice if you want it, and I'm betting they can either come out and fix stuff, or know who you can hire to do so if you can't do it yourself. Some of the items can be a little pricey compared to a big box store or the internet, but you're also paying for expertise and convenience, and shopping local is always a good thing. Allen and Palmer has a variety of employees that are experts on in home problems and answering questions. They also have several guys on staff that are Master level plumbers. James Decker works on the plumbing crew there and seems to know his way around anything mechanical, plumbing, heating, etc.... There is undoubtedly a bit of mark up on items purchased here. This is because they have to ship things so far. And indeed it would cost you more than the difference to drive to somewhere more urban to purchase the same items. I would highly recommend this location for almost anything you might need in the Northville - Sacandaga Lake area.
