After reaching out to multiple places during one of the hardest nights of my life, we chose this establishment based on the reviews, which I now question entirely. I was told I'd receive an update within 24-48 hours. At 72 hours, nothing. I called on day 4 and was told they had no updates and would call me back. They never did. I finished an entire work shift waiting. When I called again, I was sent straight to voicemail, called back two minutes later and finally got through, only to be told "I left a message but haven't heard back." From who? Their own staff? There's no clear answer. When my cousin called shortly after, she was told the office was already closed for the day. Mind you they "open 24/7." And we called them at 1am and was answered. The next morning I called twice around 12pm, no answer. Then, 5 minutes later, I receive a text from Mariela (see photo) that went from "I'll update you tomorrow" to "we're backed up" to "you can pick him up @2:30pm." In 2 hours. That kind of runaround is unacceptable under any circumstances, let alone this one. And it didn't stop there. I purchased the Complete Package, which is supposed to include an engraved name tag, wooden urn, paw mold, and death certificate. I also paid for a second paw mold for my sister. Every single thing was wrong. The birth and death dates were switched. "Your presence will be missed" was misspelled "precense." The name tag wasn't engraved correctly (just an outline of his name WIDEN). One paw mold was weirdly done, the paw print was better. And the second mold was never made. I just wanted to lay my dog to rest with dignity. This place couldn't even deliver what they promised, let alone the care and respect that moment deserved.

I was invited to this show by my brother and his girlfriend who rescue stray cats and help them get…read moreadopted. As a cat-lady-in-training myself, we were surprised that we had no idea that this event existed even though this is their 61st year. Tickets were relatively inexpensive ($9.50 for adults) and it is held in the GRB. Though it is a smaller event than other events held in the GRB like Comicpalooza, I was impressed by the ample size and attendance. I parked at the meters in Discovery Green and only paid for an hour-and-a-half, but I had to run out and pay for an extra hour because we ended up staying longer than I thought. There are plenty of vendors in attendance, as well as booths by local animal shelters with kitties for adoption and informational booths by the veterinary schools (like A&M's) in Texas. I bought a couple of new toys for my kitty that were recommended to me by one of the vendors -- I tested them out on the kittens on display and they work! Haha The real stars of this show, of course, are the cats that are up for competition. Since I'm an amateur, I wasn't exactly sure what the rules were or how the competition works, but from what I can tell you enter your cat into a category based on its breed and age. There were several partitioned areas where a judge will examine each cat competing in a specific category, with spectators watching and applauding as the judge interacted with the cat and the audience to explain what they're looking for in a winner. Afterwards, there's an "Agility Contest" where the owners try to get their cats to run an obstacle course (by having them chase a toy) that is pretty hilarious -- because cats. It was also fun interacting with the various owners and watching them groom their cats. A rule of thumb though, is never to pet a cat unless the owner gives you permission, because you'll either mess up their grooming or you might transfer diseases from cat to cat. This event is definitely like heaven for cat lovers, and I'll definitely be back next year with my posse of cat ladies.

I took my little dog to have a mass removed from his back and they left two holes on each side…read morewithout closing them with stiches and he developed an infection the next week. My husband took him and waited from 9:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and they said he was licking the wound so it developed an infection. It was on his back and there was no way for him to reach it. In any event, they took off the two stitches and wrapped him up. We decided not to use them anymore. There is not a lot of saving on going to Safe Haven. You may save $10.00 on the office visit from other places, but it's not worth the wait or the service.
