I am updating my review here after the company responded to my first negative review back in June. Following the written complaint, the company called me several times trying to remedy the situation. After a few more visits, they did indeed find the primary rat infestation, treated it properly, and we are now rodent-free. The team's response was admirable during those secondary encounters. But I still cannot justify a full 4-5 star rating here because their response only took place after I provided a 1-star review here on Yelp. In fact, their customer service rep came to my home and he explicitly stated that the company was concerned about the low review, and asked that I consider updating my review - the emphasis was not on truly rectifying my rodent issue but rather was on maintaining their reputation. Ultimately, had I not submitted the low review, the company likely would have ignored the severity of the problem and taken their time in responding weeks later. We first used Alley Cat when we purchased our house in 2023. Our pre-purchase home inspection noted evidence of rodent activity in the crawlspace under the house. Alley Cat sealed all access points, replaced damaged insulation, sanitized and set traps. We haven't had any rodent activity in the crawl space since. At the time, there was no evidence of rodents in the attic. Fast forward 3 years and we found evidence of rodents in the attic. :-( Alley Cat came out and provided the same service. They found several openings that would allow rodent access and sealed them, removed damaged insulation, vacuumed, sanitized, installed new insulation and set traps. I expect our attic will remain rodent free just like the crawl space. Kelvin and his crew were great. They were professional and a pleasure to work with. They came to do an inspection and wrote a report. Quote was around $1500 for a remediation and year warranty. That was fine. They seemed professional. Sadly, like most people in the Bay Area who work on homes the actual work is less than to be desired. They show up, no call. Strike one. We have no doorbell so they were supposed to call when they were on their way over. Luckily our upstairs neighbor had the garage open so we didn't miss them. The team lead and workers barely able to communicate in English. They are asking us questions that are supposed to be covered in the report. They didn't read it. I figure it's because they likely could not, it's in English. The company should translate it for them or read it to them before they get here. Very unprofessional. We had to call the company to ensure they knew wtf they were supposed to be doing before we started and wasted a ton of money. Meanwhile our whole house is ripped apart in preparation. They are supposed to be closing entry holes in the property. I have zero faith they will do what they said. I have a feeling this is the beginning of a hellish year getting them to do their job if this start is any indication of the work to come. They oversell and under provide. Typical Bay Area contractor BS. I am sick of these men in these companies seeing women and thinking we are just push overs. I'm pissed off at the unprofessionalism of their execution of our contract. Not looking forward to seeing how they uphold the warranty. Editing to add: These brilliant work people lied while they were here and said they didn't turn off our water valve. Spent an hour and a half talking with various agencies to find out they turned off the house water and lied about it. Awesome! They also didn't do half the job and didn't do the garage. They were supposed to per their quote but just didn't do it. Amazing. The lies saying they didn't do the water shut off is insane. Had to call support twice to get help with the water as the first person hung up on me. WTH is wrong with this company? Support person got into it with me saying they *did* call this morning. Turns out they had the wrong number listed to call. Left hand doesn't know what right hand is doing. Support also said maybe I just spoke with the wrong person and it wasn't a lie, just someone else turned off the water. Seriously? This is the level of professionalism they expect us to deal with? The person who showed us what was done didn't know why the water was off. Note that you need to interrogate each person on the team, according to support, because they don't talk amongst themselves. Insane take by a company that claims to conduct a professional business. Final result on the first day is Management said they would call then chickened out, didn't call and we had to track down support. Support called us back after we called back an hour later and said we were out of luck, they would not do anything to rectify turning off our water. They denied any action or doing anything to our water line ... big surprise. Support accused us of doing it to ourselves. Amazing. Why would we ask your workers about it before they left and then follow through for hours with PUC / Water Department if we did it ourselves. Worst company ever. Do not use these people. The red flags were there when they didn't call or read the report/know what they were there to do. They seemed like they wouldn't do a good job and sadly we let them run around our house without watching them close enough. Disgusting management and disgusting workers who clearly did this to mess with us as we're are just women who live alone. I hate this is the world we live in now. Shame on this company! After several of my neighbors complaining of having either roof rats or sewer rats, I decided to get a free inspection. Over the years some of my vents leading to my crawlspace have been damaged and needed repair. Alley Cat came out and gave me some suggestions on how to make my crawlspace more secure. Calvin and his crew came and went to work. Calvin was the go to guy if I had any questions so that was nice to know who to go to. After the job was completed they left everything clean and fresh. They use a biological liquid that they spray to kill any left over bacteria etc. A couple days later when I was preparing for another job in the crawlspace I notice a few spots I thought needed to be addressed. I called Alley Cat and they sent out Anoldo and he fixed the items. No problem. I also selected to get a 3 year plan that includes Alley Cat coming out once a year and inspect and address any issues. I had treatment 6 years ago and it was positive, professional, timely. It held strong in that time and they were great about coming out for re-inspections with easy booking. However, after having some suspicion of return I reached back out, NOT expecting warranty coverage since it's out of warranty. My inspector found some new evidence and showed me. I had questions about the process. Every one I asked him lead to confusingly long answers almost like we were having two different conversations. So I asked clarifying questions. It was frustrating for both of us. I remained professional as did he, but still was clearly misunderstanding me often. I am a clear communicator. However, post-estimate, having another question after realizing I'd requested a previously performed proactive service of sealing and cleaning an area (interior) that was potentially still holding and not in need of cleaning. I asked the company about whether it would be necessary again. I wanted it inspected rather than including on the estimate for now. I *asked* if I could pay a discount to include it in my new service warranty *if no work was actually performed*. I didn't necessarily expect a yes, but figured it was worth asking and was ready to accept their answer either way as long as they understood the question. He replied with a misunderstanding, so I called the office, and asked to be called back. He didn't call. I tried by text as the company gave me his number. I reworded essentially the details above. After a couple exchanges with him still misunderstanding while I remained calm and professional, I subsequently received a highly condescendingly worded, lengthy reply that demeaned my supposed expectations of perfection (not true) for the work overall, told me to go to another company, implied he was wasting effort on me, and said I was asking for free service. I was not. I was asking if maybe I could pay slightly less if they did nothing. I was not aware of it being difficult to tell if it was still in place and possibly needed to be replaced (if that's what he's even saying). Obviously I would pay for that if he said so. This was shocking after such a great previous experience. This company does good work, but their inspector Lee is demeaning, confusing, and dismissive. I am extremely disappointed and honestly baffled. I am leaving two stars since I got 5-6 years of no rodents, but I can't in good conscience keep quiet about this outrageously unprofessional behavior. ***Our conversation so you can see the condecension:*** Me: I think you're still misunderstanding. My understanding is it was previously performed and I imagine is still in place. So there might be nothing to do Him: Clearly. Let's just remove the line item Me: Okay. I'd still like them to inspect and make sure it looks good tho in case we need to add back on. Or I'd be willing to pay a fee to have it included in the warranty but I think it would only be fair to not have the full fee if you only inspect and don't actually do any work on it. Him: Standard interior seal cost is $250. Your proactive cost was $125. So I not sure how you derived "full fee" determination, yet alone assess a means to rate Alley Cat's pricing as fair. If the assertion is that previous interior seal costs are your metric, then I counter that in 4 to 5 years Alley Cat has adjusted to what the execution of interior Seals coasts Alley Cat in terms of time & effort, particularly when clients insist that Alley Cat should execute interior Seals " gratis" due to our efforts stimulating rodent migration into the homes. We have assuage many such clients by doing exactly that at the self absorbed cost of sending technicians to placate clients who are rightfully upset by their new squatting housemate(s). To neutralize this undue burden, we proffer a proactive option, mainly to minimize the blowback of when such interior migrations occur because despite our best efforts, such an event remains unpredictable. You express a lot of confidence that a team can directly witness obscured or hidden gaps around penetrating utilities, when it simply is neither practical nor plausible. All to say, that this situation you have perceived as possessing finite outcomes is far from. It is rather a risk mitigation outcome. You either risk that rodent lack the spacing, the numbers, or some combination there-of to achieve ingress OR you hedge your bets and tolerate $125 proactive service NOT in the service of discerning guaranteed openings, but rather to covered under warranty in the event that our in seals are circumvented. It deeply concerns me that I have to expend so much effort on this minute aspect as it suggests Alley Cat's metrics for a successful Abatement will have little to no relevance or value to you. If this is accurate, we'll graciously hope you find an outfit that can align with your metrics for success & we'll part ways wishing you the best results. read more

These guys are great! Highly recommend! Very professional and very good attention to detail including making sure they did not leave a mess behind. They did a thorough inspection on my older house. I decided to have them do an attic cleanup, crawl space cleanup, rat extermination and attic insulation. They also set trap throughout the property. Luckily the rats and the attic have left or died prior to them setting the traps. I made sure to cut back any shrubbery and seal what holes that I saw. But I can only do so much and with their expert eyes I'm sure they did done much better job. At least when I called they did have a wait time to have the inspection and treatment. In the past I have used a couple company that said they would inspect for rat entry points and they sort of did. The second guy I called last year was not able to locate entry points but he did catch some rats. So when the time came when I heard another rat in her attic I called Alley Cat right away. I didn't want to Mickey mouse around pun intended with some other companies and I don't personally trust a lot of companies out there for pest control. After dissecting reviews I decided to choose this company and happy that I did. Yes the lead time for Alley Cat out was a little long but winter season can be busier for rat extermination. But I'm glad I used this company. A team of about five guys showed up in a truck. The crew was very nice and professional throughout the whole process and I feel that the amount of work that they did for the price was very reasonable and having a 3-year warranty really will give you peace of mind.
