Best company - by far- in the Bay Area. AND they a the licensed too! Verrrrry important!! Many companies on Yelp are not licensed companies. AJ and his team went above and beyond to make sure everything was done 100% right. They were incredibly thorough, detail-oriented, and took the time to explain everything along the way. AJ especially stands out. He is a very reasonable guy, and transparent with what needed to be done, which sadly seemed like a rarity these days in the business world. Friday night and we get a faint smell of "rotting garbage" wafting occasionally throughout the house, just every now & then, fleeting. We do a cursory check of the garbage cans and anywhere there might be food. Saturday the smell is bit more pronounced, kind of more in the kitchen/dining room area. We had a party w/ lots of little kids recently, so we do a hard-target search for maybe an errant chicken wing or something stuck in an un-intended space by a kiddo... no dice. I start to think is smells similar to a dead mouse or rat, possible in the walls or crawl space; increasing smell, so I put out a Yelp! Project on a possible dead animal removal/inspection. Yami @ Honest Rodent Proofing was 1st to respond, so setup a Monday AM inspection. Sunday the smell is a bit stronger in that one area, rest of the house seems fine. da Work: The technician Sam arrives early to do an inspection, agrees there is a faint smell, but is not sure if it's a dead animal (and he'd know?!). He does the inspection of the perimeter, then the crawl space under the house, going directly under the kitchen/dining room area and did not see any sign of animal activity. He also peeked in the attic area and did not smell or see anything up there as well. FRUSTRATING! da Service: Sam said since he didn't find anything to remove nor did he see any tunneling near the foundation or entry along the roof, that there was no charge. He advised to see how it goes the next few days if the smell get worse or we see flies inside the house, to get them back; that it was possible whatever it is, is in the walls, but until we can pinpoint it better, finding it randomly is tough. While it's frustrating that we didn't find a cause yet, it's somewhat comforting that nothing was found initially; I was picturing a rat or squirrel rotting away under the house. Yami was quick to gets us scheduled and helpful, while Sam did his best to discover what was up. Excellent and quick communications will have me going back to them if needed and in the future. We knew we had rodent issues when our dishwasher stopped working, and the repair detected 3 connectors eaten by rats. Our neighbor referred us to Honest Rodent Proofing. After a free inspection, Josh and his team descended on our house for the best part of a day to get us rat free. From the roof to the crawl space they seal every external opening 1/4 inch or greater. They redid every outside vent. Josh pointed out places of vulnerability they had fixed, and helped educate us on rat issues they have seen and what we should avoid. After the sealing up, Rodent Proofing sets traps where rats may still be hanging out (and where humans and pets can't accidentally trip them). These are snap traps - they have never used poison. TLDR: Honest Rodent Proofing was honest and provided exceptional customer service. Been hearing skittering underneath the house for a long time, and finally decided to address it. Reached out to several popular businesses on Yelp for estimates. Josh at Honest Rodent Proofing came out and went above and beyond during the initial estimate (actually went in to the crawl space instead of just peeking in, etc!), which is what really convinced me to hire them. Big shout out to Josh! After getting the estimate and reviewing the numbers, I went ahead and pulled the trigger to hire Honest to do their residential proofing and seal everything, crawl space spot clean, remote old vapor barrier and install new one, etc. Two key things here: 1) I negotiated less than a 10% discount on the initial estimate, and 2) contrary to some of their competitors, Honest did NOT insist on a rat slab. Josh had explained it would be more secure to have one, but it looked like it would be fine without it. This kept the cost more manageable for sure! Josh and his team came out on June 24th, right on time as scheduled, and were complete professionals. They laid out and covered things in the area in plastic, and were minimally intrusive. While they were in the crawl space, they noticed a leak in a pipe and showed my a photo, and offered to fix it. Said it would be another $100... Fine, still cheaper than hiring a plumber! They went to Home Depot, got the parts, came back and fixed it... And then said "wasn't as difficult as they initially thought, so they would only charge $50 instead of the $100! Incredible integrity to save me money. It was apparent they were true to their name, Honest. Thank you Josh and team! After the job was completed, I realized I had forgotten to ask about the 10% discount as mentioned on the Yelp page. I asked their customer service about it and she told me she would look into it. I didn't have high hopes and while I hadn't signed anything officially, I had verbally agreed to the amount that I had proposed. Eventually they got back to me and said they could honor that 10% off the initial estimate! That saved me roughly another $150, thank you to Yami! The follow up inspections were completed by Sam and he was also very professional. I recommend Honest to any home needing to rodent proof their residence. And while I can't be certain there won't be additional rodents or vermin getting into my home's crawlspace, I can at least say my wife swears she's breathing better and we haven't heard any noise down there in the past month! We used Honest Rodent Proofing a few years ago with a serious rat problem and they were fabulous. They came out several times, once at 9pm when I called to say there was a rat lifting up the floor grate! Eventually they had blocked off every single entry point to the structure, both underneath and above the floor. Super friendly. competent, and determined guys. But I'm sorry to say this time with our mice problem, they were not so good. The partner who had been so good with the rats is no longer there, and the other partner came out and looked things over. He seemed disheartened by the task. The first guy he sent out didn't put any bait that I could see in the traps and no mice were caught, though mice were visibly running around in the garage, had been nesting under the hood in my car, and were audibly omnipresent under the floor in the living room, which was driving our dog crazy. The second guy seemed more with it, but he too failed to catch any mice. When the traps failed to catch any mice for the third time, I discontinued our one-month contract and they graciously did not charge me the $99 monthly fee. It should also be said that the office manager with whom I spoke on the phone was very nice, friendly, very understanding, and she had not charged me for the first month with the clueless guy either. My conclusion is that they're really, really good if you have rats. Mice, not so much. Probably mice, who can get through the tiniest spaces, are a lot harder to block, and no one really has the heart for killing them. I get that. Maybe I'll get a cat. :-) read more

Extremely responsive, highly professional. We used AlleyCat during quarantine because rats moved into our basement. 5 years later, more rats came back. Honest RP sent Sam quickly to inspect, & then James brought a 4 man army the same week. AlleyCat's quote for the job was not cheaper, but the work they committed to was far less thorough than Honest Rodent's. The Honest philosophy of *thoroughly* sealing the perimeter is quite powerful. As James explained, closing holes within the house is an endless whack-a-mole. We had a great experience with Honest Rodent Proofing. Their inspector Sam was friendly and informative, and pointed out a few areas of rodent infestation that other inspectors had missed. When it came to the actual work, Josh and his crew were fast, efficient, polite, and honest. The cost estimate was reasonable and in line with what other services had quoted (and less than we were expecting). They ended up having to dismantle a section of built-in shelving that had not been included in the original estimate, and they did this work (and came back a few days later to rebuild it better than it was before!) with only a small addition to the final cost to cover the extra hours. I had rats in my attic and crawl space. Honest Rodent Proofing came out to given an estimate. The estimator was very friendly. He did a thorough walk through of my property and went into the crawl space. He explained the options to me clearly. Even gave me some free traps. I ultimately did not go with Honest Rodent Proofing due to cost. The estimator recommended a rat slab due to evidence of tunneling. The rat slab was way more than I was willing to spend to get rid of a few rats, and much more than all the other companies I asked, none of which recommend a rat slab. To be fair, their exterior proofing and cleaning services alone were competitive to other estimates. The catch is, they will only warranty the work if you get the slab. I'm sure their slab work is very good and that it definitely keeps out rats. But so would encasing your whole home in a concrete block. It's about the most economical solution for me. I ended up going with another company for exterior proofing only and it has worked out well, no rats for months. read more

We had severe rodent infestation and we had tried catching rats using trap etc before we found about Honest rodent proofing, our neighbors had used them for rodent proofing and were extremely happy with their service. I am extremely happy with the service these folks provide, they came in and took care of it in a single day. 8am to 5pm, about 8-9 folks working non stop. They also installed two new sump pumps, AJ, Josh and the entire crew is tremondous. Yami at the front desk is very helpful as well. Don't hire this company! At first, everything when smoothly, but in the end, it was a bad experience. I hired Honest Rodent Proofing because I found droppings in my storeroom and a hole in the wall caused a rodent. A very bad smell was coming into my house, so I called for an estimate. I met with Anthony and his pricing seemed reasonable so I and hired him to do the work, which included plumbing, waste removal, sanitation and odor elimination. When the work was complete, after a few days, the bad smell was not gone, it seemed even worse. When I called to ask for someone to come out to check on the crawl space and perhaps do further sanitation, Anthony refused, became belligerent and started shouting, stating that he would not send someone out. He also said that my warranty was void because I declined to have a door replaced. The technician who did the work said the door was not necessary, and that I could add it at a later time, with no indication that not replacing the door would void the warranty. When I told Anthony this, he gaslit me and continued to become escalated in his tone. I've never had a business owner speak to me in such an unprofessional manner. Rather and fix the work, he said, if you're not happy, I'll just give you a refund. Although I explained that's not what I was looking for, he said, with hostility, "I'll just give you your money back". It's been 3 weeks. He canceled the rodent trap checks and my warranty. He has not followed through on the refund. NOT VERY HONEST. Don't hire this company! read more

We had a rat slab installed by Honest Rodent Proofing in 2018 and it has continued to work very well. But the house is surrounded by wildlands and the rats and mice are incredibly persistent. By this year they were somehow getting into the crawl space again so I called HRP last week. Martin carefully inspected the perimeter and attic for access points, and checked whether they were gnawing the ductwork. He sussed out and blocked spots where they were likely getting in. Then he cleaned up and set traps to nab any critters left inside. Super thorough, polite, did not stop until he'd finished every last task, great about putting on shoe covers when entering the house! Several return visits for checking on the traps are included in the service. I feel we got very good value for the price! read more

Horrible company. Small claims court ahead for them to pay the vet bills for my dog. Technician did not properly close the rat bait station in my backyard - admitted by the local manager when they came to pick up the opened bait box. I first contacted them in August and Chris came out that day to explain everything and give me an estimate. It was expensive but in hindsight well worth it to get the rats out of my crawl space. They worked with me on scheduling and Yonnie was so pleasant to work with....professional and personable. The crew came out on time (with a share location feature I appreciated). The guys did a GREAT job... looked for all the entry points and took care of business.!! The concrete trucks came out day 2 and they worked so hard getting everything done. They were drenched after spreading the concrete. They worked above and beyond on the side entry door before they left. A few months later during one of the big storms, my sump pump was in overdrive! The guys at Honest Rodent Proofing live up to their name. The owner AJ and Pablo came out to do the estimate and immediately found the problem (rat going up the AC line!) They showed "evidence" that this hole was the culprit, including grease marks, damage to the siding, and insulation that the rats had pulled out. I felt very confident that they knew their stuff and the problem would be fixed! To cut down on costs, I asked if they could do the job now, instead of sending out another crew (which drives up the cost for any business). AJ agreed and got to work. He was missing a few supplies since he normally only handles the estimates. He wound up calling in his crew led by James (JV). They were a well-oiled machine of 4 guys, quickly mixing quickcrete, sealing the hole, and setting traps in the attic. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY!... during their "rodent proofing" process they removed the skirt boards on the side of my house damaging them beyond repair, I informed them of this and they came back and replaced them with the cheapest product they could find.... which happens to not be suited for outdoor use. They do not have a contractors license and perform horrific patchwork repairs on your home, costing you much more in repair down the road. They did not seal any of the repairs, and not only do I have to replace the cheap skirt boards they installed but also the siding it is attached to because of the water seeping in during storms and then causing dry-rot later on. On top of everything when I reached out to "Honest Rodent Proofing" and talked to the owner there was a quite obvious sketchy tweaker vibe. read more

These guys have my respect. And my respect has to be earned - I do not just hand it out. They came out diagnosed our problem initially nearly 3 years ago. We put in the concrete rat-proofing under the whole house together with sump drains/pumps. The rats headed off to somewhere else.... However, 2.5 years later a few were back somehow. I called and they had someone out pronto. I was amazed when no bill came. Apparently there was a multi-year warranty that was yet to expire. I would not have known had they not told me. These guys are great. They care. They know what they are doing. They show up and good stuff happens. Rat season is here - if you're affected, Honest Rodent should be the folks you call! read more
