In essence, I want to purr while I drink my latte. That would be why Alley Cats is my favorite coffee haunt. They get it right. Every time. Smooth. Rich. Decaf latte? Oh yea. Oat milk? Yeppers! Sugat-free sweeteners that taste real? Bingo! Roll all that into one perfectly amazing Latte and it's purrrfection. I'm totally ruined for anywhere else. Came back here to try the food and it was very disappointing. My husband ordered the blazing chicken wrap and it had mushrooms, didn't say anywhere on the menu that it had mushrooms so I asked them to re make it and kinda felt like they were mad but it didn't state anywhere that it mad mushrooms. We got charged extra for whip cream on smoothies and then they did have whip cream on them and also got charged for sf irish cream flavoring and it didn't have that in the coffee either read more

Stopped here on the way up North Saturday for an espresso, and ended up ordering a few things after looking at the inviting chalkboard menu. It's a cool, newer looking space with some cool local merchandise and local art work on display (regret not buying one of those pieces of rock art-I'll be back). I ordered the turkey bacon club, along with an espresso. My brother ordered the same sandwich, (except with a cheese substitute,) along with a fruit smoothie (it's very nice how they don't add sugar to the smoothies). It all came up to only about $20. The coffee was good, and the sandwiches and smoothie were both really good. I loved the turkey bacon club panini; it was the perfect ratio of meat to bread to toppings. Before coming in, I read a few reviews complaining about the sandwiches being small (it's offensive to me what is considering a "small" portion nowadays, especially considering over 30% of the country is obese now). I'm not morbidly obese, so the size of the sandwiches-especially for the price (7$ only) was spot on. I thought the sandwiches made here for the price were the perfect size; I could see complaining if they were $3-4 more apiece, but only then. The lady who took the order was very pleasant. read more

Me and my sister stopped here on our way through town to our cabin. In need of some dire caffeine, this stop was exactly what we needed! The menu is super extensive. They have everything from London Fog, caramel and chocolate espresso drinks, various regular and tea-based smoothies, a small bakery of muffins and scones AND different wraps and sandwiches! My family settled in NW Wisconsin and we've been just outside Spooner for literally, 4+ generations. We were badly in need of a real true espresso/bistro. The ambiance is very nice and it is a comfortable place to sit and work on the laptop. Fun and interesting art work to look at. Plus, the location is very convenient. Service is always friendly and the coffee is well done. Breakfast sandwiches are also very yummy. While I don't live in Spooner, I will certainly make a point to give these folks my business. This place has never figured it out. They have the worst system in place behind their bar. No flow, no assembly line. Just people falling all over each other to make these orders which are just eh. The Dock down the way earned our business since they opened. Alleycats made the poor choice to close on sundays so we switched to get our coffee at the Dock ever since. Hopefully their new location will be improved! We will give it a try. read more

So, I don't drink coffee so this review is just about the food, service and atmosphere. All of the aforementioned were great. I ordered a panini which was only about $6.00 or so. I was expecting to be underwhelmed but I was pleasantly surprised with a very good sandwich. I decided to get a bowl of their soup after the encouraging quality of the sandwich and it was very good as well. It pains me to give them 2 stars. At one point I would have given them 5+. I used to love Alley Cats and thought it was the best coffee house in the area. Ever since they changed owners, though, their quality has slowly gone downhill. Like I said, I hate to say it, because I'm sure the new owners are nice people, but the coffee and paninis are nowhere near as good as they used to be. Last time I was there, the coffee tasted like someone dumped an ashtray in it and the panini was dry with barely anything inside the sandwich. What a lovely spot!! Spooner is definitely stepping things up. We have a cabin just up the road along the Namekagon. We stopped here on our way out of town after closing up for the season. The almond milk latte was first rate, and the cubano panini on gluten-free bread was as good or better than anything else we find along the way between Minneapolis and the cabin. The new Alley Cats location is awesome! It is a great location with easy access and lots of parking. Our favorites include assorted soups in the winter and their baked goods are so so yummy! They have great wifi, adorable merchandise and the menu has gluten-free options and dairy-free milks. When this place first opened a few years back, we were SO happy. As a family of avid coffee drinkers, this was a god send. We visit our cabin in Spooner anywhere from 10-15 times a year and loved that we could finally get our espresso fix while away on the weekends. They used to have punch card which was awesome. We would go every Saturday morning when we were in Spooner. The building is not far from "downtown" Spooner. But it is far enough away where you would have to drive/take a special trip for it as it's not very near most other establishments. The staff is always super friendly! However, they need a new system. They always seem to be crowded behind the counter. It's clear they have no clear assigned duties or flow. Most coffee shops have someone making the drinks, one working on food, one taking orders. These people fall over each other all doing different things at once. This makes for a lengthly transaction. The ambiance isn't great. The tables are placed randomly and there's absolutely no feeling of comfort - it's pretty cold and impersonal. The drinks themselves are pretty good! We usually get a latte and an americano. The espresso is good - but not great. But none of this matters as much as the fact they are closed ALL DAY on Sundays. Considering this is a cabin town and the population nearly triples on Saturdays and Sundays in the Summer, this place should definitely be open on Sundays. I understand people are at church on Sundays, but find someone who is willing to work and make the money! For years we would complain every time as we left the cabin for home in Minneapolis that we can't stop at Alley Cats for a drink for the road. We usually stop at the coffee shop in Siren across from The Lodge instead, as they are open. Considering this was our only option in town for good coffee, this was a huge bummer. HOWEVER, now there is a better coffee shop in town! The Dock is centrally located and the coffee is even better than Alley Cats. And, of course, they are open on Sundays! We tried The Dock for the first time on a Sunday and haven't been back to Alley Cats since. The Dock also offers the best fudge and ice cream in town. Sorry Alley Cats, you lost our business. But at least our $20+ every Sunday of the Summer now can be spent at The Dock, since Alley Cats doesn't seem to want it. read more

At least twice a month, my partner and I head up to Spooner/Hayward from The Cities to visit our friends and her family - Alley Cats is the stop for our caffeine fix. Fantastic coffee and home-made bake goods - their cinnamon rolls are a must-try. The owner is never not there and he makes the one of the creamiest lattes a barista has ever made me. They have great monthly themed drinks, like "The Nutty Irishman" in March, and their flavoring with syrup isn't overdone. My only hang up is that Alley Cats, like almost every other coffee shop in a skinny-latte world, doesn't carry whole milk. If they did, I might have to swing by Spooner on my morning commute to Saint Paul. read more

Stopped in on way up north for camping-we were looking for anything besides burgers or bar food! This place was perfect. The cafe was very busy-in fact our waitress was quite flustered and rushed. The food was pretty good, not great. But service was quite fast despite how busy they were. Both panini's we ordered hit the spot. The beef soup was a joke though. I didn't have any beef in my cup and the not much flavor. I will add the prices are Very friendly here! For small town WI is nice to see joints like this. read more

I enjoy this spot. Good coffee, tea, etc. Also good sandwiches and soup. They also have free wifi. It is located on a corner north of downtown Spooner. Parking is mostly on the side street. Employees are friendly and helpful in answering questions about the menu. I highly recommend this spot for a coffee break or a lunch. I think you will enjoy it! read more
