His Dr.'s were trying to keep him as safe as possible and out of the hospital, understandable... Out of the blue, Lyda from Instrumental Speech Language Pathology, called me to see how my husband was doing. She had worked with him a few times in the past. His G tube had just been inserted and we were dealing with a new reality. She immediately eased our fears and arranged to see him upon his arrival home from the hospital. From the first day she began working with my husband our lives changed in ways you cannot imagine. First, she educated herself on his medical condition and put a plan in place for his recovery and the possibility of him being able to eat again. Lyda gave Steve exercises to strengthen his swallow and stretches that enable his neck and throat muscles to work at their maximum capacity. She implemented techniques to use so that when he could eat again his risk of aspiration would be less. Lyda has worked tirelessly with Steve, arranged a swallow evaluation, posted the test on facebook for other professionals make suggestions, spoke to his Dr.'s , and never allowed us to loose hope. She is such an optimist but always errors on the side of caution. I truly do not know what we would have done without her continued guidance. Steve is now eating and life is returning to normal. We are following her suggestions, doing exercises daily and using her suggested techniques. We cannot speak highly enough of Lyda.
