My blinds were shot and I had the good fortune of going to Allied Drapery Services. Walking in, one get the feeling that this is a store and service center from a kinder, gentler time. And, for sure, it appears to be one with greater integrity than the norm today! Indeed, the customer service was superb. The owner, Randy, kindly fixed my blinds personally and at a very reasonable rate in spite of the fact they were an off brand (i.e., probably not the easiest brand of shades to fix). I asked him how long he's been in the business and he said, "Since 1979." He clearly knows blinds well. In addition, their showroom is really beautiful. It is likely that I'll be needing drapes for one of our rooms soon and my first stop will be at Allied. read more

Want drapes? THIS IS THE PLACE! (I'm sure they're great for blinds and other window coverings too). I worked on a kitchen makeover project this year that involved replacing some very old and worn out drapes as well as the rods. I first went to JCPenny's but couldn't find anything that looked good in the kitchen, even after going through 4 books of swatches. After consulting Yelp, I decided to try Allied Drapery. Randy first visited and we discussed options and took measurements. I then proceeded to check out numerous swatch books (probably over 20) from his store before finding the right pattern for the kitchen. (They have quite a collection of swatch books available and you're sure to find something you like). The drapes were made with fine craftsmanship and I'm completely satisfied with the finished result. They even went over and beyond expectations by making some additional alterations at the end of the process to suit the special needs of my situation. I needed a lot of drapes, lo ft. sliding glass door, double windows and a single slider. I had gone to Yelp and found this place. The first visits were great, we spent a lot of time looking at fabrics and Monica was very nice, extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We went back a couple of times because the order would be about l0K, so we wanted to make sure the fabric was right. We ordered on August 9th of last year. Did not hear anything for months. I called once in a while, but got no information when the drapes would be done. Finally the last week of October, I called and was told the drapes would be ready to be installed. I had drapes on the windows with huge valence box over the l0 ft. sliding glass door. The other windows also had large boxes. The valences had wooden boards in it that were difficult to get down. They only sent one man to take the drapes down and put the new ones up, He was an hour late, and no one called me. I was told he was on another job. then he showed up. I expected at least 2 guys with that kind of a take-down and draping. He was here for 7 hours!! He got here at l0, and didn't leave til almost 6 pM. At 3:30 I realized he had not had anything to eat the whole day, so I told him to go get something to eat, which he did for about l/2 hour. It was still the whole day! The rod turned out to be defective,( not their fault, obviously) but they ordered a new one and this time Randy came and helped put up the l0 ft. drape. The guy did come again and spray some kind of material into the rod so it would move the drapes, because the drapes would not open or close. The drapes are beautiful. Subsequently I had some kitchen drapes backed and that took another month. A small drape. Again no word on when things would be done. I was upset at the whole house drape encounter and I mentioned that I wasn't happy that no one called when they would be late and that it took 7 hours to get the drapes up. I wanted a swag made for the drapes on the door. I brought them a sample. It sat at the place for 5 weeks. I kept going back asking when it would be done. Monica was definitely not as nice as she had been. I guess they don't like it when you point out that you are not happy. I finally picked up the sample swag, figuring it wasn't going to happen. I will find someone else to do my bedroom. I can't say I had a good experience. I don't know what Stephanie T. got who wrote that" Randy and his asst. installed the drapes quickly" not in my case. read more

Randy and Monica worked with us for outdoor draperies around our deck. The biggest challenge was finding the track hardware I wanted. Other businesses were unwilling or unable to do the research, but Randy and Monica found just what we wanted even though it was not a standard item for them. They made my drapes even though I purchased the fabric from another store. 2. They helped me save money on sheers by selling me fabric that was over stock. 3. They assisted me with installation instructions so I could do it myself. And 4. They have a very quick turn around and do quality work. It doesn't get much better! read more

On my .. I have a sad story. I engaged these folks to replace hardwood shutters when my patio window was replaced under an HOA upgrade. My hardwood shutters did not fit the new windows. I engaged Allied on the basis of Yelp reviews. The owner handled the deal. I switched to an automatic pull down blind. I was pleased. I tried to give him a credit card downpayment because I put most everything on my credit card for miles. He said he had to have a check but I could pay the 60 percent balance on credit card. I agreed. The blinds were late in arriving, no a major problem, but on installation they were too tightly fitted to the window and did not have enough width to cover the window door handle opening. The owner said he would get an extension. I again agreed. About two weeks later the extension was installed by the company (not the owner). The extension still did not work. And the installer was extremely disrespectful of my hardwoods floors and did a bit of damage. I took photos for proof and called Allied. Nothing happened. Finally the owner said he had to drive to San Francisco and pick up the correct extension. He seemed irritated. I refused to let the last installer on premises. The owner came out and did the final fix. It sort of works, not really... But here is the nasty part and the almost unethical part. He demanded full payment at completion by check. I reminded him about the credit card.. He completely disregarded it and demanded to be paid in full. I sent him the full payment by check the next day. I have waited almost two months before I yelped this experience. I expected an apology. I expect perhaps an offer of a couple hundred dollars refund or any gesture of "we apologize", but nothing. I would not use these folks again or recommend this company to anyone. read more

I am giving them a single star because there is no option for Zero star. Our experience with their products and services have been horrible. Just few months after installation the rolling shades motor does not work. Some of the curtains are fraying on the sides already, the material is cheap quality and highly over priced. We realized that we could have saved a whole lot of money on our curtains.Find another company for your drapery needs! read more

I needed to have the lining replaced (due to sun rot) on vintage drapes from 1924. 3 other businesses would have nothing to do with them. Finally one of them referred me to Allied. I took the drapes to Allied and met with Randy who explained that they needed to be cleaned (for the health and safety of his employees). I told him I was trying to get them cleaned but no dry cleaners would touch them. He examined the drapes and told me to throw them in the washing machine and use the gentle cycle, hang to dry. Worked like a charm! I took them back to Allied and met with Monica who carefully sized up the job, gave me an estimate and committed to a 2-week turnaround. They were done 3 days early and were beautiful! It wasn't inexpensive but the quality of the work was outstanding and far cheaper than buying new drapes. In fact, about a week after I paid the balance, they sent me a refund check for $155.00 because the amount turned out to be lower than the estimate. High quality work and honest, too!
