I'm convinced nothing compares to Allie's Donuts. The sprinkle donut is my go-to. Soft, fluffy, perfectly sweet frosting, and topped with a full rainbow of sprinkles. Just so good. I've tried several other flavors too, and they're all great, but the strawberry frosted is really chef's kiss. They're also the place for donut cakes, especially around the holidays, just be ready to call right when ordering opens because they go fast. A Rhode Island exclusive: Allie's Donut Cakes We order donut cakes to celebrate family vacationing together on our annual visit to Narragansett. Our five yr old granddaughter selected the Mermaid. It was beautiful. White frosting and lots of colorful Jimmies. Our four year old grandson selected a Garbage Truck. It had chocolate frosting and green jimmies. He squealed with delight when he saw it. We also got an American flag to celebrate July 4. In the past, we have enjoyed a Lobster, a Crab, a Beach Pail, and a Beach Umbrella plus wedding themed donut cakes for our daughter's wedding eight years ago. On a rainy day there was no line at about 0830. The staff were all super nice. It is CASH ONLY so don't forget your cash! The maple frosted had a nice flavor but could have been stronger. This is a very nice donut. We tried the boston creme, because they are delicious, and a plain, to dip in my coffee. The Boston creme has a nice texture to the yeast donut. The chocolate on top is a light, milk chocolate type frosting. The custard cream has a nice level of sweetness. Not too sweet. The plain has a crispy fried outside and a dense cake inside. It held up very well to being dipped into my coffee. That coffee/donut combination flavor and texture is just right. Enter at the door at the corner of the building and wait in line. If the line is to the door, wait outside with the door closed until there is room to move inside. Once at the head of the line, wait to be called to the counter. No public facilities. No eating-in. Yesterdays donuts are bagged up and put on shelves by the exit. Would make more sense to put them along side the waiting line so customers can pick out what they want before approaching the order counter. Maybe use those shelves to direct the waiting line instead of the rope currently in use. A good sized parking lot designates the area next to the building for customers to wait in line. Pretty easy in/out of the lot with several exits onto Quaker Lane. This is a "Cash Only" business. read more

Every donut I've had from here has been great. I'm particularly partial to the maple flavors (the old fashioned is lovely) but the Boston crème is excellent too. Allie's Donuts is a traditional RI staple! They have been around for a while. Aside from a variety of donuts they also have array of Donut Cakes and basic coffee. The donuts are light, soft, and fluffy There is always a line and it usually goes outside the door since the building is small. If going in colder weather definitely dress warm. I usually visit during the summer months so it's not a big deal waiting outside. The building can use a more modern remodel but it gets the job done in the meantime. At the time he was a dairy farmer who had been supplementing income to support his wife and seven children by working additional hours in a local donut shop. He envisioned a better way to make donuts, something his employer was not willing to support. His effort became a very successful family enterprise, and Allie's Donuts is currently owned by his eldest daughter, Anne, and her husband, Bud Drescher. LOCATION: The donut shop remains on the original road, a main thoroughfare (route 2) in North Kingston with ample parking. The shop's parking lot is often full, as customers quickly stop to pick up Allie's legendary donuts, or unique custom donut-based cakes. EXPERIENCE: While you you can always expect to buy donuts until the shop closes at 2 PM, part of the surprise and draw to quickly get in line is the ever-changing availability of different donut flavors and styles. The hand-cut raised donuts may be filled and covered with glaze, frosting, powdered sugar, and granulated sugar, but cake-like donuts are offered as well. Some favorites of mine include maple glazed raised and the raspberry-filled granulated sugar covered donut. Excellent donuts. I test out Boston Crèam donuts wherever I go and this stands as one of the best. It is off season but when I walked in, I was helped immediately and all the donuts I wanted were available. Things that kind of irritate me about this place are they're very finicky about order and how you enter the store. They want the door to be closed. They actually yell at people to close the door. I understand not wanting to have bugs come into your establishment but there has to be a nicer way of arranging it so that they can accommodate more people in the store. The whole place on the inside is very cumbersome there's nowhere to sit whatsoever regardless I just think that this is something that should be an easy fix by the management. Allie's Donuts are great place to get donuts if you are in North Kingstown or nearby. The best part of their place is that they have day old donuts if you come early enough. We didn't come early so we just got half dozen donuts. I think their donuts are good but I am not sure if it out of the ordinary. I was actually surprised because it seemed a bit pricier than some donut places in San Francisco. But everyone is nice and quick with your orders. When we first moved to RI a lifetime ago, ALLIES was one of the first place new neighbors took us. Following with that, when folks came to visit us from out of state, we took them to Allies for what my Uncle called "a little piece of heaven on earth". Fast forward 2024: Stopped at ALLIES for the first time in many ears... returning from chemo treatment at Dana Farber, my husband was wanting an Allies' fix, and with what this man endures, he can have whatever he wants (within our means!). Shock #1 - Rude.Rude.Rude. people at registers and filling orders. In my opinion there is nothing that one would do that would cause a staff member to laugh in someone's face, turn away and ignore someone and call them b--- because she or he didn't know something about a certain donut. And 3 out of 5 of the people working there fit this description. Shock #2 - Donuts are now $25.00 a dozen. We would gladly pay this, but not with the attitudes that come with the orders. And we know that YOU KNOW this exists - and persists. Shock #3 - People actually wait in line with expressions of terror not talking, etc, etc, fearful of reactions that might be received. We won't do that - and we will not honor people/businesses who do that to others. Especially to older people, needy people, etc. After all, we aren't all movie-star men and women waiting in line - let me tell you, at Allie's that gets you a smile and then some. Old time donuts, the way things used to be, before the Dunkin onslaught of mediocrity and before the hipster donut invasion of pretentiousness. I do love me a hipster donut and count Knead and a PVD among my favorites, but not every hipster joint has that kind of quality, so it's to those others that Allie's provides a refreshing counterpoint. Anyhoo, onto the breakdown: Glazed raised: A raised donut, for those not in the know, is the soft, light (not cakey) kind used for honey dipped, and this was as soft and light as any. Fresh at 7am Sunday. Clean, neutrally sweet glaze without the chemical aftertaste and no flaking. And good taste to the dough 'neath the glaze. Chocolate frosted raised: Same light and tasty base, with a light dried chocolate ring. And by light I mean light of both color (like coffee milk) and flavor (you might not recognize it as chocolate with your eyes closed). Maple frosted raised: Also light and still warm, but the big distinction here is that the ring of maple isn't a thin dried glaze but a thick, soft, creamy maple frosting, with maple flavor in spades. Better than any cupcake and possibly the highlight of the half dozen. Strawberry frosted raised: Another warm one and another with a thick application of soft, creamy frosting, bursting with strawberry flavor high in the sweet and without the chemical aftertaste. Boston cream: This raised shell donut (without a hole) needs no introduction, but it does need mentioning that the chocolate on top was the same light-colored, mild-tasting version as the chocolate frosted. Inside, vanilla pudding. The saving grace: soft and fresh donut base that at least made it a success texturally. But a mild disappointment. Raspberry powdered jelly: A gigantic rock of a donut, amply filled with raspberry jelly. A little crispier than the other donuts. Powdered sugar amply applied but not too messy. Jelly in every bite. Plain donut: Ordered in addition to the half dozen, in a separate bag, this was far and away the highlight of the visit: cake style donut, very fresh, crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, with subtle but delicious flavor to the dough, and just a hint of greasiness--enough to keep the donut moist but not enough to overpower. After some time of not coming to Allie's, I decided yesterday to give them a try again. The place was not busy like it used to be years ago. Service was fine but the donuts have really declined. They didn't taste fresh and were very very heavy, in comparison to how they used to be. I tried three different ones and all were equally not great. Not that I'm too concerned with the cost but for the price they are now, $24 a dozen, double of what they used to be, they just weren't worth the cost. Plenty of other better donut shops on the state. RI Guys is close by and far superior . Sad to see this Rhode Island staple decline so much over the years. These are the the best donuts in Rhode Island!! The sprinkle donuts are absolutely iconic. They are so light and fluffy. The frosting stops just short of being tooth-achingly sweet, and contrasts well with the raised donut that is not particularly sweet at all. I also love the maple frosted, vanilla frosted, and strawberry frosted. They have seasonal specials too. I will say that I don't love the old fashioned donuts and crullers as much as the classic raised donuts; I wouldn't waste the space.
