I've been a member of this Planet Fitness for a while, and I honestly don't know where to start…read more The final straw was the move. The gym literally moved next door. Not across town. Not to another city. Next door. Somehow this required shutting down for an entire week, and even then they still couldn't get the opening date right. Members were told the gym would open on May 31. Their Instagram posted that they were "NOW OPEN." So I drove there expecting to work out, only to find the doors locked and signs saying they wouldn't actually open until June 4. How does that even happen? If you're going to close a gym and disrupt everyone's training schedule, at least communicate accurately. A lot of people take their fitness seriously. Some of us structure our entire week around training. Closing for a week is already frustrating enough. Posting that you're open when you're clearly not is just ridiculous. And honestly, the move wasn't exactly bringing us to some state-of-the-art facility either. This gym somehow manages to have more cardio equipment than an airport terminal while still lacking basic strength training equipment. There are treadmills everywhere. Ellipticals everywhere. Bikes everywhere. But if you actually want to lift heavy? Good luck. No power racks. No squat racks. No proper bench stations. Just Smith machines lined up like they're supposed to replace everything. The dumbbells only go up to 75 pounds, which might be fine for beginners, but anyone who has been lifting seriously for a while is going to hit that ceiling fast. The layout makes absolutely no sense. Machines are scattered around seemingly at random. It's like someone dumped all the equipment onto a floor plan and called it a day. You'll find yourself walking laps around the gym just trying to finish a workout because nothing is grouped together logically. Maintenance has also been an issue for what feels like forever. Broken machines stay broken. Cable machines feel rough and neglected. Some of the cables sound like they're fighting for their lives every time they're used. Equipment is frequently dirty. The water fountain has been closed for months at various points. Imagine paying a monthly membership to a gym and not being able to use a basic water fountain. Then there's the cleanliness. I've been in warehouses that smelled better. Some days the smell hits you the second you walk through the door. A gym doesn't need to smell like a luxury hotel, but it shouldn't smell like something died behind the treadmills either. The famous lunk alarm might be one of the most annoying ideas ever invented, but somehow this location found a way to make it worse. During the closing period it seemed like they were setting it off constantly. Nothing motivates you to work out quite like hearing a loud alarm randomly blasting through the building. What frustrates me most is that none of these issues are new. Members have been dealing with broken equipment, maintenance problems, limited free weights, and questionable organization for a long time. The week-long closure and false opening announcement just highlighted how poorly things seem to be managed. I understand moving a gym takes work. I understand delays happen. What I don't understand is why members were told one thing, social media said another, and reality was something completely different. A gym's entire purpose is to provide a place for people to train consistently. Instead, this place managed to interrupt everyone's routine, communicate poorly, and reopen with many of the same problems that existed before. At this point, it feels like Planet Fitness put more effort into finding space for cardio equipment than creating an actual strength-training environment. One star because at least the parking lot exists.

I've been training there for a year and a half together with my teenage son, and we both love it. We love authenticity of the place, love Master Chen and Sean and their style of teaching, love learning Forms and working with different weapons /staff, sword, broad sword, nunchucks, spear, even bull whip - we both love working with all of these, and I am a female/. To train with real Shaolin Master, captain of Shaolin Temple Performance Team side to side and to watch him going over the movements is unforgettable experience. Don't get me wrong, it's a hard work /that what kung fu means, hard work/, the warm up is like a bootcamp , cool down is another one , but you will definitely get in shape you've never been in and maybe loose few pounds. I also love flexible schedule, they have classes for every level almost every day, weekends too, you even have 2 options. I love parents train together with kids, we practice together with my son at home and test together, we have fun together. I also take Tai Chi class there and I highly recommend trying this one too. I can't speak of this place and quality of Master Chen's training highly enough. Thank you Illinois Shaolin Kung Fu Academy for this opportunity!

Every machine is computerized and is programmed to always be pushing you harder and harder. It never allows it to get easier. It's always pushing you to beat your last goal by increasing the difficulty. I stayed here for a yr. I really enjoyed the coaches. I loved the quiet workouts. -It was typically just me, one other client, and two coaches here. No gym BS at all. The reason it ultimately wasn't for me is because my goal is total body recomposition. Doing the same 6 exercises on the same machines is just not going to achieve that. I needed more. More moves. Longer workouts. I need variety. I started feeling so bored with my workouts. Always doing the same 6-8 things. So limiting. There's also only a couple of minutes of cardio. I aim for 10k steps a day and because this isn't a gym set up for cardio, I was forced to either walk in freezing temps or rainy weather or find a store to walk in. I needed a gym that had endless cardio options. This is not the gym for that. Would I recommend the exercise coach to most people? Absolutely, yes. Would I recommend to someone like me who wants total body recomposition? No, your 20 min a couple of times a week just isn't going to cut it. For the amount of money you're paying, you also aren't getting any bells and whistles. This isn't a cheap gym. It's pricey. And for that amount, I'd like showers, towel service, class options. I want a sauna and pools. A locker room would have been nice. Heck, even a bathroom. Here, you have to get a key and use the business complex's bathroom.

Paying for a…read moregym membership and trying to figure out what to do next or doing the same thing every time just was not working. We were tired of the yo-yo. We stumbled across EnShape Fitness through the Ro Sport Chiropractic office, which is right next door. There are many reasons why I love EnShape. The classes are small (max 8 people), which allows for semi-private training; they know everyone by name, you're not just another number in their system. They have a variety of training classes from metabolic cardio, strength training, recovery cardio, and circuits. Along with fitness, they also incorporate nutritional training, which is the key to successful weight loss and maintenance. They teach you that this is a life style change, not just another diet. The staff at EnShape is small, so they get to know your strengths and weaknesses and you get to know them on a personal level. You have accountability with weekly weigh-ins and a monthly meeting with your trainer. They care about you, your goals, and your success. Since the middle of August, I am down almost 30 lbs and 2 pant sizes. I can dead lift and bench press more than I ever thought possible. I can push the sled across the gym with weight without any help (the first time I could barely get it 25 ft without any help), and throw the battle ropes with ease. I have more stamina than I used to and feel myself getting stronger. I have definitely seen success in how I feel and how I am looking. I still have a ways to go, but I know that I'm on the right path with the right people. If you're looking for a small gym where the trainers genuinely care about you and where you can find success, check out EnShape. You won't be disappointed.

She has a background in being a life coach so she is attentive to your total wellness, not just physical, which is key for me. I work out with her exclusively via FaceTime and as a busy, working Mom, it couldn't be more perfect. She is on time and friendly, even at 6 am! If you are on the fence about contacting her, do it! You won't regret it. Scheduling times with her is easy and if I ever need to move times around she is very accommodating. Also, from the beginning she was upfront about her fees and wanted to make sure that we stayed within my budget. She never pushed me to do more than I was comfortable with. Kathryn utilized a phone app called Trainerize, which I love. She loads the work outs in the app after we have completed them so I am able to do them on my own on days of the week that I don't work out with her. It is very easy to follow along.
