They are despicable. I was two days late on my monthly payment b/c my father was in the hospital…read morefor a week, then he passed away, so I was a little busy at the time, so they charged me a 15% late fee. 15%!!!! When I called them to explain the situation & ask them to waive the fee they refused, what with them being subhuman beings. So I paid my premium for that month & that day I looked for another auto insurance carrier. When I discovered I could switch companies that day I immediately cancelled my policy with Direct Auto, meaning I should have gotten a full refund for the month I paid that very day. They refused to issue the refund, so I filed a dispute with my bank & was refunded the money. 4 months later I get a bill from them for $31, claiming it was the balance of the premium owed, when I owe them nothing. I'm fighting this & I will not pay it, having an 840 credit score I couldn't care less about the hit I might take for $30 Direct Auto is fraudulently billing me, basically trying to steal money. They're really sick people.

These are hard times for everybody and they take advantage of key dates in your insurance policy so that it lapses. Then they'll contact your state to have your registration(s) suspended without a single phone call. DO NOT get insurance with this organization. If you have a policy with this organization, go somewhere else. They're likely cheaper and more communicative.

One way or another, you'll be really sorry you ever signed up with this insurer. We needed to replace our roof damaged by tornado, but instead of replacement we got paid only for partial reshingling. Several contractors we invited for the estimate told us that reshingling reshingled roof is a band-aid solution since the roof was already reshingled in the past. It already had 2 layers of shingles of different age. Adding third layer of shingles would not be good. But nothing worked...
