Still a great place for delicious brunch, and by far the best eggs benedict I've had in Brooklyn. However, I'm deducting one star for the service. The front-of-house girl not-so-nicely told us that the wait would be a half-hour for a two-seater, though some tables were empty -- so we decided to hang out at the bar for a bit. Well, the tables stayed empty, and our hanger pangs decided we were gonna eat at the bar, and the tables remained empty, and our bartender was very nice and entertaining, and the tables were still empty when we paid our bill and left. Went here for brunch today after my go to spot Rabbithole had 1.5hr wait. No wait when we got there and the place was great. The waitress we had was great. Coffee was delicious, as for the food I had the Salmon Benedict. It was very good only bummer is that it didn't come with home fries but cant knock it a star for that. My friend and I were walking down Bedford looking for a place to both eat and drink. It seemed like the kitchens were closing in every gastropub we could find when we found a beacon of light in the dark, Allswell. It was very busy at both the bar and the dining area, but we were seated right away. We both ordered cocktails and my friend ordered a burger, which looked amazing. I'm definitely going to stick with the whiskey cocktails next time I come because neither of us were crazy about our first drinks, but once we moved to the bar and were given the star treatment by the whole staff (seriously, these guys and gals are AWESOME, we stayed here until they locked the place up...by accident...) we never wanted last call to happen. Stopped in for brunch an a Sunday. The weather was warm and there was no relief to be had inside this place, so we asked for a table outside. Nice shaded area and di the job. The menu was decent and varied. I had the Eggs Benedict and have to say it was really good! Bloody Mary .......I'd give it a B+ Waitress was very nice, but here is my complaint. Service was S.L.O.W. Everything we asked for took 20 minutes to show up!! The food itself took at least a half hour. More drinks?? Another 20 mins, etc.............If you are in a hurry, then this may not be the place for you. Thankfully, we weren't and were able to enjoy our meal regardless. read more

Been here twice for brunch and I am a fan. The restaurant is small but because of that they are always changing the menu up. I've had the baked eggs with chorizo and kale which was delicious with just the right amount of heat. I've also tried to the crispy chicken sandwich. Woah. Delicious. The chicken is so crispy and they give you two decent size pieces for the sandwich! The fries that are served with the meals are HUGE and have the perfect texture. At my roommate's suggestion we went here for my birthday dinner. I got the "Hake Cake" which looked exactly like it sounds... a multiple layered cake of fish. Sounds weird but tasted delicious. My whole goal was to try something random and new and it turned out great. This restaurant is very cute - perfect for an intimate dinner with friends or a significant other. The menu is always based on fresh ingredients and is everchanging. I recommend it however even with a reservation they made us wait awhile which was a little annoying. read more

Great neighborhood spot with a rotating menu and lovely decor. The hosts are usually very accommodating and the atmosphere is dark and cozy (though don't expect to show up at 8pm on a Friday night with a group). My boyfriend vouches for their burgers, and I'll take his word for it. I haven't had a bad meal here. Came here during the opening week, and perhaps that was a mistake...but I was really excited about this place. I live nearby and hoped for winter nights spent in a cozy place, plus I'm a big fan of the Spotted Pig (the owner is an SP expat). But I'd rather go elsewhere. 2 entrees and 2 drinks for around $65, and a crappy experience, no thanks. Menu is okay, I guess they're going to change it up quite a bit. Usually I have a hard time trying to decide what to eat at a place because I want everything. But here I wasn't that excited. Really fancied the lamb breast, but don't like sprouts, so asked if I could substitute. Waitress said she didn't think so because everything is 'pre-portioned.' What on earth does that mean? She went away to ask the chef and came back with the same answer. So I opted for the pork faggot with lentils. Friend got the pappardelle with chicken ragu. Both were tasty but neither of us left feeling fully satisfied. Friend actually said he was still hungry, and I wasn't stuffed. Service was not good. Lots of staff but all walking round with their heads in the clouds. One thing that really weirded me out was the waitress, who cleared our plates but left our dirty cutlery. This was after our entree too! I already have a bugbear about not getting clean cutlery for each course...but this was just weird. We were supposed to eat dessert with them too? Maybe she just wasn't thinking, but she made quite an effort of placing them back on the table. Drinks service also lacked somewhat. Our glasses were empty but there was no offer of another round and at the point we were kind of done with the place. We also had to wait a little too long for our check. So many more great places to go in the area, I'd rather not waste my time here. read more

Love this place! Food is amazing and the vibe is super cute. I think maybe some of the long waits that people talk about have to do with the menu changing so much. That's a plus for me as I live around the block and eat here 2-3 times a week. If you're coming in for lunch definitely get the crispy chicken sandwhich or the burger. Also, the desserts are AMAZING! Came here for a week day lunch with a friend. It was pretty empty with nice service and reasonable prices. We got the artichoke sandwich which was delicious. Went there for brunch with friends on Sunday and the bar tender was a stuck up snobby hipster with a horrendous attitude. In all my adult life I've never wanted to punch someone in the face before. I've wanted to come here for brunch for a long time, but was often deterred by the swarms of people waiting for a table. Solution: Show up at 10:00 on a Sunday when they first open. (This may require a little restraint in your Saturday night activities!) It was a beautiful day, so we sat in the small area outside, which maybe was a mistake. The narrow walled-in space in close proximity to the traffic noises of Bedford doesn't compare favorably with the cozy dining room inside. The food was great, beautiful to look at and lovely to taste. I had a frittata with winter squash and ricotta- the eggs were cooked very nicely- not rubbery or over-done as frittatas sometimes are. My friend had the Eggs Benedict which she pronounced to be the finest in the land. And they looked fine indeed! Service was a little lackluster, but nothing to seriously complain about. All I have to say is GO TO THIS PLACE! The food was totally amazing. I ordered an egg sandwich (over easy) with sausage. And the bibb lettuce slice was a nice touch. What a perfect hangover cure! This place is charming with it's odd collaboration of mismatched wallpaper. My $11 mimosa was mostly champagne, so after two I was pretty buzzed. The pancake was delicious and they did cook my eggs the way I like them. But my one bone to pick was the bacon. The pieces were greasy, thin, and limp. Bacon needs to be thick and a little crispy. Eh. I went to Allswell last week for dinner with some friends last weekend out of curiosity and with every intention to like the place. Convenient location, constantly changing menu, and a nice selection of local beers and well-paired wines. So why was it so underwhelming? A few thoughts: 1. The ambience was way too "trying to be cool" than plain old "cool." Pitch dark by early evening, loud as hell even when the place had emptied out, and the classic Williamsburg seating arrangement of tables on top of tables. 2. The food sounded great on paper but was only middling in execution. My friend ordered the steak - can't mess that up - but reported it pretty mediocre. Steak shouldn't be like that! Another friend ordered the rabbit pot, which I guess must be trendy (it took the waiter about 2 mins to explain) but just seemed kind of...strange. My lamb belly special was good but kind of greasy and kind of lacking on the promised bread salad + assorted summer vegetables. We collectively ordered about 8 dishes, and not one of them was particularly memorable. Ouch. 3. Even the dishes that were good could be had at other neighborhood restaurants in better iterations - house made ricotta, beet salad, bruschetta....meh. One plus is that it wasn't nearly as pricy as I had anticipated. So if you have a date who's new to the neighborhood, or easily impressed, not a bad spot. But nothing really compelling me to get back there anytime soon. read more
