I would like to start off by saying how kind my stylist was. I really enjoyed chatting with her. She was very thorough. She asked me a lot of questions and took the time to look closely at my hair before she started. Everyone at the salon was extremely kind. The salon is clean and beautiful. It is very clear that everyone there is knowledgable and professional. That being said, I really anticipated giving this salon an excellent review. I brought a picture of the color I was hoping to achieve. Unfortunately, after nearly four hours, my hair was no where near what I was hoping it would be. When I saw a friend later that evening she said, "I thought you were going to get your hair done today?" I'm not necessarily unhappy with the color, but it looks VERY similar to what I came into the salon with. My visit was also a lot more expensive than I anticipated. According the salon's website, the full cost of a haircut is $50 and the full cost of a full foil is $110. However, when they rung me up the total came to $225. I asked for one inch to be trimmed off and received a balayage. I understand that a balayage is not the same as foil highlights, but I wish I had been advised that this service would be a different price. I was expecting the total to be around $160 and only brought enough cash to leave a tip for that amount. I didn't question the price when I was checking out because my stylist was near the front desk, and I did not want her to think that I wasn't appreciative of her time and effort. She really did spend a lot of time with me and was very thorough, but my hair doesn't look much different. I think the toner made the most difference. In February, I visited a five-star rated salon in Nashua, NH. I received the same services, a cut and balayage for $140. I decided to try out this salon because there were so many great reviews online, and I thought that the prices seemed very fair, so I was a bit blindsided by the final price. Lastly, some of the bleach must have gotten on the chair because the shirt I wore to the salon has several spots of bleach on it. I had bought the shirt the day before my appointment, so I was pretty bummed. Overall, I can see why people like this salon. I wish I had a better experience because I really liked it here. read more

My boyfriend had a project nearby and I needed an emergency hair fix from horrible highlights from a salon in NYC. Lisa looked through my hair and asked me what I didn't like about it, but then, like a pro, was able to take me through each point and articulated for me exactly why I hated it so much (ash highlights that dulled my natural hair color, a bad haircut that was too texturized so it looked damaged). She also took into account how much I ravel and the wear and tear of different water and climate. She saved my hair with a gorgeous, warm semi-permanent color that still showed the highlights, but took out the ash with a rich caramel and gave me a smart cut without taking off more than inch. I love my hair now. It was all very reasonably priced, as were the excellent Keritase products she recommended. Lisa is a pro with a great eye for detail and a fantastic communicator. I started coming to Rumors as a child in the mid nineties. As I got older, I started having my hair foiled here because I really like the work done by one of their stylists. I went in on 4/20/19 for a full foil. I have long(er) hair, and I usually end up paying an extra $20 as a result. This time, I was charged $40! That is 35% of the original price, and seems excessive. I also (stupidly) decided to get a trim. Why not? Im already in the chair. So she trims my hair, blow dries it, and sends me on my way. The blow dry was AWFUL. I could have done it better myself, and I dont think I have used a blowdryer in a decade. No round brush, no style at all. Now, I wouldnt mind this but I was charged $55 for the wash, cut, and blow-dry. If I am to pay Newbury St. prices, Id expect to look like I got my hair done there. I expressed my concern to Lisa, the owner. I wasnt sure why the prices were so high (they had not updated their website to reflect new prices), and why my hair looked so awful. She did not care. Her solution was to have a stylist wet it again so I could wear it home naturally. Many of my friends and family members have stopped going to Rumors as time has passed, and I now understand why. Lisa has no customer service skills, and nickel and dimes customers without warning. I tried contacting her privately to discuss this further but never heard back. I do not recommend this place to anyone new to the area looking for a salon. It is absolutely not worth your money, and Lisa Ledoux is not a good person. read more

Amazing salon! I went in for a cut, color, and eyebrow wax last week and have been feeling a pull to write a Yelp review ever since. It was my first time at Rumors, and I felt instantly comfortable as I walked in the front door. The ladies at the front desk were welcoming, and the whole salon is just so modern and cute. I knew I had picked a good place. Lisa, the long time stylist who did my color, was phenomenal. My hair has literally never looked better. My hair is long and usually takes a while to foil, but Lisa was efficient and masterful. She offered a trim, and when I told her to do her best, she gave me some really wonderful long layers. I honestly can't stop looking at my hair! The eyebrow wax was wonderful as well, and the girl who did it (I can't believe I forgot her name!) was so sweet that we talked through the whole wax. That means no worrying about when the strip is going to be pulled! It was a great experience. Overall, I would definitely recommend Rumors to anyone. They seem like they really know their stuff, and the salon is chic but with fair prices. I was really impressed by Lisa, my stylist, and can't wait to go back! read more

I have been visiting Laura at the salon since I moved to Marlborough in 2012. I have very straight hair that I basically only get trimmed and washed every couple of months. Everytime I go she is super nice, always dries my hair even though I tell her it's not necessary, and basically gives me attention even though I am not a customer that gets a ton of services. She does a great job, and gives me samples of product to try fairly often. She also recommended a great brush for detangling wet hair. Last week I had a clinical facial with Christine. I am 30, and have been obsessed with anti-aging for about 5 years. Within the past three months I began using retin-a to address potential problem areas. Although my skin is looking younger, my face was dry and red in areas. Christine noticed immediately. She did a facial, explaining all along what products she used, why, and asked about my skincare routine. She basically wrote me a prescription for fixing the damage I had done my overusing retin-A (I followed the dermatoligists directions, but had not follow up with her since). I learned a lot about my skin, and how to better take care of it. She even asked me to pop in to check on me in a few weeks to see how the new routine was going, and emailed me a follow up treatment plan. She was fantastic, and I already have my next facial scheduled! read more

I moved to Marlborough yesterday and wanted to find a salon to get my color done without travelling back to my old area (Stoneham is about an hour away now.) I read the reviews on Yelp for this place, one was good and one was bad. I took it with a grain of salt since not a lot of people had reviewed it, the bad review was pretty old and I was only getting a quick color and cut. I went in and was about 5 minutes late for my 8:30 appointment, (they open at 8 am which is awesome for early risers like myself) and I apologized to Heidi for being late and it seemed like she hadn't noticed and ensured me that I was fine. The salon was pretty full already with many people who seemed like they had been before - they should come on here and advocate for this salon - and staff that all looked pretty enthusiastic and wide-eyed for the time in the morning it was! Heidi did a consultation and matched the color perfectly within a few minutes, mixed my color, applied and was sent me over to the color table. The color table was my only negative part of my visit, I don't like the idea of sitting across from everyone else with color on the hair. . no one was talking to each other so it was a little uncomfortable for that reason. I was seated there for a little while and my stylist took another customer for a hair cut which she completed quickly but there was no place at the color table for me to put my purse so I had to put it on the floor in the salon (note to self, carry your cheapest purse if you are having color and not a Kate Spade.) She finished my hair and it looked great. The finishing could have been better but I have curly hair and feel like she might have been getting tired. My whole appointment for a color and cut lasted from 8:30 to 10:30 and I was happy with how it turned out. I'd absolutely go back again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a new salon in the area. This is absolutely the #1 choice for a salon in the Metrowest area. Professional, knowledgeable, long-time staff members create an upscale atmosphere for all. Always changing to keep up with current styles and trends for men, women and children alike. I never have to worry about a thing when I come in to get my hair, nails or skin pampered. If, Lisa, my regular pro is not available, I can certainly trust any member of that staff to take care of me and provide me exactly what I want every time. These ladies helped me look fabulous through all of my proms and every special event throughout my life. I've tried other places but they just cannot compare. I had recently moved to Marlborough and needed a place to get a formal hairstyle because I was in a wedding. I wasn't really picky about what I wanted, went in there and browsed through a magazine and picked out a nice easy hairstyle that I knew would work for my hair type because I've had something similar done before. What I wanted was a simple, smooth and sleek style pulled back into a small bunch of curls. What I ended up with was a big puffball on the top and sides with a large upside-down triangle of curls in the back. I was practically in tears and she could tell I was upset, and said that gravity would make it less puffy on top. This woman has supposedly be doing updos for 30 something years, so I don't know if I'd trust any of their other stylist either. I would have had her redo it if I had the time, but unfortunately I didn't. I was able to tame some of the puffiness with mousse before the wedding, and it looked OK but it was certainly not anything like what I wanted, nor worth the $70 I paid for it. read more

Have been going to Rumors for years. The front desk staff and all the stylists are all extremely friendly and professional. My stylist Lisa is great! I have also had stylists Karen and Tina cut and color my hair. I always leave there extremely happy, by far the best spot in the area for hair, nails and skin care. I highly recommend the salon they are always up to date on current style trends and techniques, the pricing is extremely reasonable and all the staff is great! read more
