One star: The one star review is for the pricing bait-and-switch, and for being blown off (after I left a voicemail message to speak with a manager/owner, and, later throughout the week, a number of follow-up messages I left with a human to speak with a manager/owner) in my attempt to have a conversation about my concern.  I had an upcoming hair/color appointment that I promptly cancelled after this experience. Backstory: I am local, and I have been a customer of this salon, on and off, for about 15 years.  Over the years, I have been a client of two very good stylists: Jackie and Heather (who were not involved with the interaction below). Issue: Bait-and-switch on kids haircuts--when scheduling I was quoted a max of $35; however, I was charged $60 plus (per haircut) at closeout for a number of kids haircuts.  Thick hair was the reasoning.  If the salon's website had a disclaimer that this was a policy, or a verbal beforehand about the pricing differentials, we'd have a non issue (that said, I would have gone elsewhere).  As I mentioned above, it's the last minute bait-and-switch, and then being completely ignored by the owners to discuss my displeasure with the experience.   Bottom line: If you are someone who makes an effort to support local businesses, I would think twice about this establishment.  I feel like I was treated like a disposable suburban customer--which clearly was the case. I'm giving a five star review because of archery, who gave me an amazing and relaxing facial. She was very kind. Upon checking out, I was charged $95 for the service. I questioned the gentleman at the desk and said that I thought it was an $85 service and he responded that it was not. When I got to my car I quickly checked online and saw that it was indeed an $85 service. I had booked this appointment within one month of going there. I went back inside and mentioned this and he looked at me like I was an annoyance. He also gave me an "oh well" look like he wasn't planning to credit me the $10. I said to him that they really should honor the pricing posted online. He finally did issue the credit and apologized. My suggestion would be that upon booking any service to confirm the actual pricing and not go by what is listed online. read more

I was a little desperate after several bad hair cuts in the area, so I figured maybe it was time for a real salon. I found New Leaf about a year ago and I'm never going anywhere else! Kathy does an amazing job whether I feel like going curly or straight. Yes, the prices are high... it's a salon. I pay $50 every 10 weeks, but $5 a week is worth it to me not to cry after a haircut. They could improve on their phone / front desk service... Thats the only thing keeping me from giving them 5 stars. read more

This is the worst hair salon I have ever been to--and I almost made the mistake of returning there. My husband and I are bicoastal and I had just moved to Massachusetts part of the time and was unfamiliar with any salons. On the advice of one of my husband's employees wives, she recommended New Leaf. She explained that she only did color so she couldn't see me (I was looking for cuts and blows outs only at that time). I found a good hairdresser that did nice work but after only 2 sessions with her, she had a medical emergency and I was told that she would be gone for at least 6 months. I found out by going to the salon for a scheduled appointment and they hadn't bothered to contact me to tell me that I wasn't going to be able to see anyone (I asked if someone else could do my hair and they said no). I then asked why no one had called me, and the owner (I think her name is Lori but I'm not positive) very snottily told me, "We tried calling, you didn't answer" (which was a lie--I have voicemail and caller ID; there were no messages and no one tried to call from their salon). This is the type of snotty small town place that makes you feel that you should be thanking them on your hands and knees for agreeing to see a peasant such as yourself. I'm not kidding. Even while I did like the hairdresser, she was a HUGE exception to the treatment that I received from virtually every other staff member. I had a facial there once and it was the least relaxing, most rushed facial I have ever had. I then found a San Francisco hairdresser whom I saw for many years but since we are now spending more time on the E. Coast, I decided I needed to find hairdresser in this area. I almost went back to the New Leaf but thankfully, I came here to read the reviews and was disappointed by them and was considering canceling my appointment but then thought--well, hey--it's been a while so maybe it's a new owner or the place has changed. They had to cancel the appointment and called me right as I was walking out the door, which means I had gotten up early, put on makeup, dressed up, etc already. Then I started thinking...and wondering because the receptionist's (or owner's) voice sounded so familiar. Then I turned back to trusty Yelp and looked at the reviews and someone had posted some pictures and I realized it was the same HORRID place that had once made me feel like a piece of dog poo. I called them back immediately and told them not to bother having the hairdresser whom I had requested to call me back not to do so. I wouldn't give that salon a nickel of my money after the rude and detestable way they treated me previously. I am so thankful I canceled because I now found the greatest hairdresser and in the town I live in! They are also close to me and treat customers as though they value them. There may be good stylists and other employees at this salon but the owner is truly horrible to her customers and doesn't know how to communicate well or make people feel as though they are appreciated. read more

I have been going to New Leaf since 2004 (I was 9 at the time). That being said, I'm pretty biased. New Leaf is really all I've ever known when it comes to salons, and I've known my stylist, Sue, forever. First off, it's a Northborough salon. So if you're looking for a place that won't charge you much do NOT go here. It's almost as if you're paying for the "spa" ambiance rather than the actual service. Their prices definitely match the affluence of the town residents. A haircut costs around $45, and it's extra if you want your hair blow dried afterwards. A few highlights (a "Partial") costs roughly $30--I think this is pricy considering the amount of hair they actually color! In terms of service: I hate to say it but I don't know if I'd recommend this salon. Sue is a gem. I have curly, frizzy, hard-to-manage hair, and this is why I stick with Sue; she knows my hair very well and always knows exactly what to do with it. But every once in a while I've had to switch to another stylist, either because Sue was busy or because she wasn't available, and I can't say I've ever been too satisfied. I get highlights there regularly and I recall walking out of the salon last October with ORANGE-tinged highlights in my blonde hair. I was NOT happy, and quite confused as to why anyone would think any auburn shade belonged on a blonde head of hair. Another time, a charismatic young girl with curly brown hair did an undo for my junior prom. Worst decision ever. My hair looked nothing like the picture I showed her or the description I gave her. It was like a sticky, messy low bun with no shine. I freaked out as soon as I looked in a mirror. I nearly cried pulling all the bobby pins out! It was almost as if she didn't want to put in the effort to make my curly, frizzy hair look sleek and shiny. This pissed me off because for the amount my mom paid her, I should have gotten exactly what I asked for. Now I'm always paranoid about stylists "using their own judgement" when it comes to my hair! Eyebrow waxes are overpriced ($18) but New Leaf uses a nice, gentle soy wax which I like. My mom recently paid a lot for a French manicure. 2 of the tips were uneven and it was chipping by day 4. Sorry, New Leaf. I'll keep going to you for a while (because I LOVE Sue), but your prices are just overboard considering the service you provide. read more

I took the opportunity to grab a Groupon for New Leaf to get a facial at a discounted price, ($35 for what is usually $80). #1 Pamela, my facialist, was superb. She was lovely, knowledgeable and talked just the right amount/ let me relax when need be. We did a quick eye brow wax before the facial, which was efficient and accurate. #2 The salon is very nice if not in a somewhat confusing location. It is on the second floor of a newer little mini mall of sorts. Now that I know where it is, it's simple, but if you've never been before, leave a couple minutes to figure it out. #3 This salon seems to be all encompassing. You can get massages, facials, pedicures, manicures, hair services, microdermabrasion, and I would guess varying degrees of those things. I am looking forward to exploring those options in the future. Being that I used a Groupon for my first trip there, I don't think I felt the full effect of the cost/experience so my judgement may have been slightly skewed. I really loved my facial but I booked an appt for another and we shall see how I feel when I pay the full price. For right now though, I am a happy customer. read more

I Had some horrible color expirences here brassy, gold , awful and the owner's attitude was basically go somewhere else! We don't care. So I did, and couldn't be happier! I'm not sure why the colorists there have such difficulty with multi tonal highlights. The are also very expensive and the few stylists I had were not that good especially for that price! I have been been a client to New Leaf Salon for over 6 years. In October I decided to get hair extensions and had a consultation to choose hair colors. I had a bunch of pictures to show to give ideas of color I wanted. $600 for the hair and over $400 to have them put in, I hated the color of the extensions. They were not close to the pictures I showed or the hair samples I was shown. 2 days later the extensions started to fall out. I went back to have them fixed and Donna, the owner, told me I was using the wrong products which caused them to fall out. She didn't ask me what products I used which if she did she would have found out I used the products I was given by the salon. Donna never apologized either. This happened at least 4 more times where I had to return to the salon to have them put back in. At this point I wanted them removed. I asked for my money back but they said they would not give it to me and that I paid for the hair. I thought they would at least stand behind the hair and do the right thing and refund my money. Derek, Donna's husband offered to give me half of the service cost back. I am not going to negotiate and told him I expected the full amount refunded. I continued to go here despite knowing that the owners clearly didn't care about me as a client or my experience. When the salon was closed down during covid-19 they offered root touch up kits to their clients. I called to say I wanted to purchase one and I had to call 5 times before someone even returned my call. When they reopened clients were told to stay in the car and the salon would call you once your stylist was ready. After waiting for 45 minutes in the car for an appointment, I left. I understand they need time to clean in between or my stylist could have been running later but no one called me to say that. When I got home I had an email saying I missed my appointment. I called the salon and told them I was there and the receptionist said they didn't know I was. Well if someone called me they would have known I was there. My next appointment I waited for 30 minutes in my car. The salon should be courteous to their clients and let them know when your stylist is running late. If I was that late for an appointment at the salon they would need to reschedule my appointment. I have given this salon so too many chances and I am done. Donna clearly doesn't care about her clients or the experience they have at her salon. Since I have been going there she has never even said hello to me. I am taking my business elsewhere to a salon who will appreciate my business and will be happy to have me as a client. read more

Kim did a great wash and blowout on my hair and Chelsea cut my husbands hair awesome after getting him to switch from a local barber that didn't do a very good job. I wish I could post pictures. So they just said , WE can't help you and have no idea why your hair color has changed so much after having the same Hair dresser Diane for 7 years. I had my hair colored here and was told that I had to order blow-dry option in addition to the hair color for them to dry my hair. It would cost extra $21. I've been coloring my hair for 10 years and never had a salon that asked me to pay extra for a blow-dry. I can't believe they let me leave the salon at 8pm with my hair dripping wet. A few weeks later, I went back to purchase a small bottle of Moroccan oil. It was over $5 more than what was posted online at the Moroccan oil official website. When I asked the cashier about the price difference, she said it has been this price as long as she can remember so she basically told me to deal with it. Worst customer service ever. I will not be returning to this salon. Save your money and go somewhere where people care about you as a customer and won't rip you off. read more

I have been going to New Leaf since it opened in its original location. The atmosphere is relaxing and friendly and the hair stylists are great. Dianne and Tammy are the stylists I see most often but Jackie, Kim and others have stepped in when I needed appointment changes and all have been wonderful and accommodating! In addition to hair services, they offer wonderful facials, waxing services and more. I have since moved to a town further away, but still make the trip to the salon - I love it! read more

Just came back from New Leaf Salon and was never treated so badly by a hairdresser in my life, name Hannah. I went in for a perm and a cut afterwards, but she insisted on cutting first and ended up cutting most of my hair off, horrible cut. She also did not want to perm my hair said it had enough curls in it. The bottom of my hair curly yes but the top and sides bone straight. She did not listen to what the customer wants and did her own thing, she was argumenative with me and down right mean. My hair cut was so bad I couldn't even have permed it if I wanted to no more hair left to perm. The salon owner Lori also was very rude and unprofessional, sticking up for the hair dresser, after the way I was treated in her salon. I would not recommend this salon to anyone... read more

Mani/Pedi: If anyone needs a treat or a reward for yourself (losing a few pounds, eating better, making it through the week)....go to New Leaf Salon for a mani/pedi with Roseanne Kozlowski. It is not like the typical nail salon atmosphere that you are in and out in an hour. It takes 2 hours. It has that spa morning feeling. Prices are a bit higher than you would pay at the strip mall type nail salons, (I had a groupon) but it was so relaxing as you are the only one in the room so you can really chill out and have down time to yourself. I followed my long-time hairdresser to the New Leaf Salon because I have always been pleased with the way she's done my hair--both color and cut. The salon is beautifully decorated, but the staff was rather standoffish. I had sticker shock when I was charged $200 for highlights, a cut and blow dry. (I have short hair and did not need many foils.) This was 35% more than I had paid at my hairdresser's former salon. These are the prices I paid when I lived in Fairfax, VA. Believe me, Northborough is NOT Fairfax. I can't justify paying 35% more for NO additional value. I have found a wonderful salon in Shrewsbury and am very happy with the service, the prices, and the friendliness of the staff. read more
