I have been going to Allure for 8 months now for a massage. They are great. The therapists are very nice, always asks if there are any specific spots I need worked on, the rooms are clean with relaxing music playing. I've been to several different massage spas trying to find someone who will work on the specific spots I'm having issues with and not just go over them for 2 minutes and move on. This is the only place I found where they listen and I leave feeling so much better. Highly recommend this spa for massages. read more

I received a Hot Stone Massage as a gift for the Hubby for my Birthday June 11. First let me start by saying the customer service I received was amazing. I wanted to get in that Friday early however they had no open appointments so I selected Thursday, 2 days after my birthday at 3pm. I get a call later that evening - Wednesday June 12 advising me there was a cancellation Thursday at 10am and they could fit me in for an early appointment. I TRULY appreciated them putting that call in as they knew I wanted an early appointment. I scheduled my appointment with Georgianna after all the wonderful reviews I read about her. Now let's talk about the appointment within itself. unfortunately, to no ones fault of my own, I missed judged how far away the facility was. I thought it was 10 mins away when it was actually 20mins away. Total disappointment for me as this made me 20 minutes late. I was TRULY apologetic to Georgianna because I understand she had other appointments and that there are actually people that make their appointments on time!!! HOWEVER....Georgianna, whom my was very understanding and said she would give me my full time. I was so appreciative of that jester as she did NOT have to do that. I was totally prepared for her to cut my time but she didn't! Now...lets get to the massage. AMAZING!!! I cant say enough about it. I'm having problems with my left rotator cuff and mentioned it to her. She totally took time and focused on giving me the massage I so needed!!! When I left I literally text my husband and told him best BDAY gift ever!!! She put pressure where it needed to be, The stones were amazing, she made me feel comfortable and relaxed, and overall gave me the best massage experience I've had in a long time! This was just an okay experience for me... i received this massage and facial as a gift for Christmas. Also it was a groupon deal. (60min Swedish massage, 60min facial and a $15 gift certificate) Lets start by saying i went online to make the reservation and they call you to confirm your requested dates. while the lady was making my appointment she made it very clear that i should not tip based on the amount of the groupon that i should tip based on the amount of the actual price (which she told me i could find online) however i think i should tip based on how well you did. Wednesday i arrived the staff was VERY nice. all three ladies i came in contact with were pleasant. the lobby seemed clean but a little outdated. i felt like i was entering a doctors office not a "spa". Nancy greeted me by name (assuming i was the only appointment haha) First up was my massage. now other spa's that i have been to i have gone into a locker room and was given a robe and a place to keep my belongings, NOT here. you carry your clothes from room to room. i had expressed some soreness in my upper back but the massage was not modified to accommodate my issues. i was given a cheap short walmart robe to wear to the next room. i collected my belongings and on to my facial. now the facial was fine my only complaint is while I'm trying to relax all i hear is this timer ticking... i understand that they need to keep track of the time since its a 60 min facial but the timer really? way to kill my vibe. side note - while in the rooms you can hear people outside them talking which will also kill a vibe. As i left i stopped at the front desk to leave a tip and to ask about said gift certificate that i did not receive with the groupon. the lady at the front desk acted like she had no idea what i was talking about til i repeated myself. she said id receive it in an email within a few hours... its 24 hrs later and nothing but who really cares i wouldn't use it. read more

Try again. I went in thinking I'm going to have a fabulous experience. I walked out begging my husband for a massage. The minute I walked in it felt like I was in a cardboard box. The place was empty and cheap looking. For being a spa in Barrington I expected more. They had a electric plug-in fireplace that didn't heat up the waiting area. The rooms were made of what felt like single layer plywood. I could hear everything in the rooms next door. And I was grossed out as I could see fingerprints on the door and walls from the lotion and oil. Gross. My masseuse looked like she was a biker chic recently released from prison. A bit intimidating but VERY nice. The massage table was heated which was nice but I asked for it to be turned off as it was a bit too much. The actual massage sucked. Got the coupon for $39 for 50 minutes and decided to try it out. either I am just spoiled with Asha salon at streets of Woodfield, or this place SUCKED. When I walked in I had to greet the receptionist, who was just busy texting away on her phone. She then proceeded to make a personalized call on her cell phone in the quiet lobby, and to make matters worse it was about her personal doctors appointment so to say it was uncomfortable is an understatement. My Masseuse greeted me while still eating her lunch; she smelled like cucumbers and onions the entire hour. I was not given an option as to what scent of oil I wanted, and the bed was not heated. It honestly felt like a piece of plank wood that was covered by a cheap sheet. The oil she used was very cold, and had no scent. It later made me break out everywhere which means it was probably cheap because I have no broken out after a massage before. The walls were very thin so you could hear every conversation going on around you. and to top it off, the music sounded like French Renaissance music. The whole place shook when the front door opens. I had a great massage for $39 so I wont complain. If I would have paid full price, I would not have been happy. Yikes! Don't do it! I bought a groupon for massage and facial. I was put off from the very beginning. When I called, they made sure to take your Groupon code and use it right then and there. They also tell you how much cash to bring for a tip based on the regular price of service. I've always been generous with gratuity but this was a little ridiculous. Telling someone how much cash to bring to cover their expected 20% tip before the service is even provided? I had a facial and a massage. Why. Why?! Would you have someone get a facial and then have them face down in a massage table? This shouldn't happen in any salon. I shouldn't have to even say it. They noted it wasn't ideal either. Starting with the facial, she tried shaming me for the breakouts I was having. I repeatedly told her that my face was acting up due to hormone changes. It's not usually like this, I'm happy with the products I use. She went on to say "If you were using a superior product, this wouldn't happen. Just for your information." She asked what I wanted worked on and when I said extractions, she said where?! I don't see them. Uhm... are you serious? This woman had no business giving facials or giving advice on skincare. Only upon leaving, did I see her Rodan & Fields case. Which spoke volumes as to why she was trying to push product on me. Also, that line sucks for my skin. Tried it. No thanks. Next up, massage. Right after a fresh facial. I think by this point, I was already so annoyed that I couldn't have enjoyed it. Face down on a massage table after the worst facial experience, I was ready to go home. I am really shocked by all of the bad reviews! I tried Allure about a year ago with a Groupon and have been a fan ever since, and my husband and teens have become clients, too. I grab up Groupons and Amazon Local deals for this place whenever I can, although I would pay regular price if I had to. I have tried probably half a dozen other local massage therapy spas and I have been the most consistently satisfied with Allure. I have had six massages at Allure so far, and this month I had a deep tissue massage with Bas. Best deep tissue massage ever! Some advice to the reviewers who didn't get what they want, you really have to speak up. If the massage therapist is using too much or too light pressure, you have to say so! If you were not happy with your massage--tell the management! They want their customers to be happy. read more

My husband got me a gift certificate for a pre-natal massage last year. I did not go because it was too late in the pregnancy and I didn't want to induce labor and also it was the height of Covid. The gift certificate that he paid for also included the tip. Well I had the baby and life got very busy. When I went to finally book, I saw that the certificate expired on 12.14.21 and I realized this was 4 months past the expiration. I called to find out if they can still honor this even though the date expired and they said no. They said it was because the gift certificate is no longer in their "system". I have the physical gift certificate with the certificate number on it and they still would not honor it. I did not appreciate their immediate "no" and no comprise - such as a percentage off since we already paid plus tip for no service. I was looking for a place to start getting regular massages near my house so really disappointed this did not work out for me to even try them. read more

I agree with the one star. My massage therapist is moving and I wanted to find a new therapist for my regular massage visits. (At least two per month) Save your time and money and venture elsewhere for a massage. I went on a whim after I saw a Living Social deal and will never return. My experience doesn't even deserve a star. The massage therapist was nice, but there is no way they have been professionally trained. I get massaged on a regular basis in multiple states and countries. I am certain that the sheets were not changed and I remained face down for the entire hour. That has NEVER ~ EVER happened before. The only reason that this deserves even one star is because the booking process and front desk staff was a delight. There are plenty of other spas just like this one with way better staff, facilities and prices. I strongly advise you to avoid this place. read more

Disappointing massage and I paid full price. Booked the 1-1/2 hour hot stone massage. Their spring special to was $88 but I was charged $105. Therapist asked what was bothering me and I stated my back and that I wanted the massage to focus there. Well my back was massaged for about 5 minutes total. When I left I told the girl that I really wanted my back done more and she said that my body was right so she didn't focus there. Ummm that's what I paid for. She wanted me to schedule another massage but I declined. Sadly I feel worse then when I walked in and need another massage. read more

WORST SPA EVER! I went in for a facial and massage.. I wanted to cry coming out. i was so pissed off from my experience here. the facial was 10 minutes of this girl extracting so hard that i started bleeding and 20 minutes of unnecessary massaging to my face. are you serious? then i got in for my "60" minutes massage which i timed to be 40 minutes and the woman ask me what areas she needs to focus on which she completely ended up ignoring and decided to it her way. i wanted a deep tissue and i could barely feel her pressure on me even though i asked her twice. she never once touched my back and had me lye on it the whole time.. i will NEVER go back to this place again and do not recommend it to anyone. save your money and gas. i hated my bf for even getting a gift certificate for me to this horrible place. read more

I've been a regular customer at Allure for about 6 - 8 months. I started because of a GroupOn offer. I will say that my first experience wasn't good; I didn't like the masseuse for various reasons. But I liked the convenience of the location and their prices. They also offer a 30 min. massage, so I decided to go back for the 30 minute with a different masseuse. It was so much better, and I am glad that I returned because now I have a masseuse who I like and who knows my problem spots and tailors each massage to my needs. I agree with other reviewers that the staff is friendly, and that this is a new business trying to make it. Their prices are really reasonable. Perhaps that's why the salon is more basic in its decor. I'm happy to pay for just the massage and not the fluffy robe, herbal teas, and other amenities that drive the price upward. If you're looking for the experience with robes, teas, etc., then this is probably not the place for you. But if you're looking for a good massage at a reasonable price, then this is a good place to go. read more

I had a great experience with Allure. The first time I came in for a massage using a gift card I had received for my birthday. I had Irina as my masseuse and she was wonderful. She found all the places that I had knots in my back and really worked to get them out. I was so happy with my massage and the place, that I bought a couples massage deal, and took my husband there for Valentine's Day. He had Masa (I think that's how you spell it) as his masseuse and I had Irina again. They were both very friendly and did a great job! I felt great afterwards. I was very disappointed after my massage. I showed up about 10 min before my appointment. (Apt. was at 3pm) The therapist didn't take me until 3:20 and ended the massage at 4pm. I paid full price for a 40 min massage!! And the massage was so light, I barely felt anything. One more thing, they used so much oil, it was gross. I was all slimy when I left. The massage therapist tried to sell me a package or future appointments DURING the massage - twice. She asked if I was interested in a package and I said no, as I was trying to focus on relaxing. Not at all a good place . Never go to the place. I went for a facial and the lady called Nancy who did my massage was not at all good. Firstly, she was old and did not have any energy in her hands to do the facial. Her fingers were very gentle like a small child's fingers. No energy at all. I did not have the feeling there was a facial going on . I just felt that she was applying cream on my face and wiping it with warm towel. Please do not go here. The front desk lady/receptionist was very rude . I had taken an appointment for a massage as well.I reached there 10 minutes late , so she asked the concerned person to do the 50 minute facial for 25 minutes and she charged me for the entire 50 minutes.When asked ..she began arguing with me. I was in this salon on March 31,2014; had a massage by Harrison (who was fantastic), and a facial by an older lady (claimed she taught estheticians in beauty school) and this was literally the worst facial I had ever had. For both services, they didn't have me sign ANY consent on skincare or ask if I had any type of allergic reactions to any products. This was a huge red flag for me, due to me being in the salon/spa industry myself for over 20 years. The facial irritated my skin and I kept saying something to the lady, with no reaction at all. She would also start moving around the room grabbing things in between steps (which was very distracting). I had to ask her multiple times to move the steamer away from my face because I couldn't breathe and it was too hot on my already irritated skin. The esthetician also did 'tweezing' on my brows when I specifically asked for a brow wax. Her response, "The wax isn't hot enough yet" Even after the service was over, she stated the same response. Due to me being in this industry as long as I have, I know it takes approximately 20 minutes to heat a pot of wax. Instead she 'tweezed' me and I couldn't tell she had done anything, but yet I was charged for this service. The best part was a week later. I looked at my bank account and this "spa" (and I use that word loosely) had charged me almost a hundred dollars for another service I never received. I called Allure and spoke with the owner, who was extremely rude and arrogant. She refused to do anything to accommodate this mistake. I never authorized them to retain my credit card number. However even though on a receipt, our cc #'s don't show up, somehow they still retained my cc number. I would assume she personally wrote it down to save for a future bill. The only piece of paper I ever signed, was my receipt for the services I actually received on 3/31/2014. I called the spa to question this charge, hoping it was a simple mistake and they would not hesitate in solving this issue. I would have returned for another massage, if this would have been the case. I will say, when making conversation with both service providers, they both stated how slow they had been. I can't imagine why. After reviewing the other posts on here, it appears this "spa" hasn't learned how important it is to keep the clients COMING BACK. I will not be back and I will pass the word on about how shady this place is. read more

Let me start off by saying that my experience at Allure was the first professional massage I have ever had. Ever. In my life. So, I had no idea what to expect during my first visit. I received a gift card to Allure as a Christmas gift. I decided to schedule a 60 minute Swedish massage. When I entered the facility I was a little surprised because it felt more like a doctor's office than a spa (not that I know what a spa is "supposed" to look like). It just wasn't what I expected. Even though I was 15 minutes early I only had to wait 2-3 minutes before I was called back by my massage therapist, Elizabeth. She was gracious, kind and made me feel at ease. I told her it was my first massage and she took the time to explain to me everything she was going to do. She also asked if there was any specific area I wanted her to focus on. I let her do her thing without giving any instruction and am pleased to say it was lovely. Her style was gentle, but she made sure to ask throughout the massage if what she was doing felt okay and if I needed more/less pressure. The music was soft and soothing. I really liked how the oil/lotion they use is unscented, so you don't leave smelling like bath & body works. I couldn't believe how quickly the hour had passed, and I left feeling happy and relaxed. On my way out, the front desk person tried to sell me packages and future appointments. I get it's their job but I hate that pressure. Overall it was a nice experience, but I won't be going back. Not because of anything they did, just because I don't think a massage anywhere is worth paying for. read more

I have been going to Allure once a month for about 8 months now. I have loved all of my massages! I haven't had any issues of "too light", or the "1100 pound gorilla" syndrome. After reading some of the lower rated reviews of this place I decided I really needed to stick up for them! I drive one hour from the SE suburbs just to go to Allure in Barrington for my massages. I have tried going to other private salons and places like Massage Envy but the quality/technique just does not compare. Everyone that works there is very professional and the place itself is clean and well decorated with calming music - creating a relaxing environment. The massage therapist that I go to is named Raisa and she really knows what she is doing! She told me she has been doing massages for over 14 years and you can definitely tell by her techniques. I always get the 90 minute swedish with reflexology and ask her to do deeper tissue on my shoulders (she does that last after the muscle is warmed from the warm neck pillow and she has worked on it for a bit so it doesn't hurt as badly as other places). She does an amazing scalp massage and light face massage (if you want one) which is exquisite - I didn't even realize that I held tension in my jaw until she massaged it out!! The massage itself is so relaxing, the table and linens are very comfortable and hot towels for the reflexology feel amazing. The massage lotion they use is professional quality and contrary to what other reviews stated I think it smells great, very natural and makes your skin SO soft and glowy afterward. Raisa is very kind and friendly which makes it comfortable and easy to relax and enjoy the massage. Also, she always goes the full time and does not ever end the massage early. Every time I leave Allure I feel like a glowing ball of jello, totally relaxed and pleased with the service so obviously I highly recommend this place. read more

I love Allure's availability and ease of appointments, and the massage therapists there have good, strong but gentle, fingers. Rasa is one of our favorites. It is a clean facility with an outstanding receptionist. The prices are beyond fair-- about a dollar a minute. Aromatherapy oils can be added if you wish. Hot stone massage is available, too.
