I came out of a very bad…read moreexperience with Glendale Memorial Hospital, verging on patient dumping; and, because the insurance company did not want to continue paying for the hospital room, the diagnosis swiftly swerved to such that I was ready for a skilled care nursing facility - a "nursing home," as hospital staff mostly referred to it. With such a glaring and unprofessional lack of communication by Glendale Memorial Hospital staff, I had envisioned going into a situation where there were 10 beds to a room, 100+ rooms to a facility, and everyone maundering in their infirmities and lacking proper medical attention. Fast forward to my transfer to Glendale Healthcare Center, and it was a complete reversal. The staff, from LVNs, CNAs, social workers, nutritionists, chefs, occupational therapists, and resident services staff were beyond compassionate. They were attentive, personable, accommodating, and always empathetic to my condition. The motto here is to get the person well and re-integrated into community life. Physical therapy is 5 days a week, and you don't languish into immobility or atrophy in a bed. The food service is excellent, and always ready to accommodate you in any food you are allowed to eat, given your specific condition. The facility is 5-star rated, rooms are cleaned daily, and they are even willing to do your laundry for you. My only criticism is a weak link with certain of the CNAs regarding the maintenance of medicine supply and working with the resident doctors and pharmacy to always have required medications on site, most specifically on weekends, where a given medication is almost out, and it the re-ordering of it is not timely coordinated with a doctor who may not be on site on the weekend. Again, this is an issue with possibly 1 or 2 staff who administer medication, who should but do not proactively exercise due diligence to facilitate a consistent supply of medications for residents. I can't imagine a resident in need of pain medication, such as myself, being told they have to wait 2 days, next business day until a doctor is in the office to re-authorize. That is patently absurd, and a breach of the Hippocratic Oath. But it is an issue that, once resolved, will have the place running like the excellent machine it is. All and all, I would recommend Glendale Healthcare Center as highest on my list. Wonderful place for getting you back into health. Much love to them all*

From the CNA's all the way to the Director of Nursing (DON) Anytime there is a slight change in his medical condition, someone from the facility is quick to inform me. I meet at least once a week with Nurse Martinez and we discuss any questions or concerns I might have regarding my brother's medical care/condition. My concerns have always been promptly addressed and or corrected by the medical staff. My brother is very happy there. I have asked him several times if he wants to come home and he says NO. The kitchen staff does a excellent job creating tasty and nutritious meals. The administration staff walks the fine line of corporate needs and patient needs. it is necessary to advocate for yourself at times, but that is actually a healthy part of your rehabilitation process in my eyes. I was a patient here for over a month, during that time I met some amazing people on their staff! One thing to consider when you're coming from a hospital environment or a critical care unit, this isn't that. You won't get a 2 second response on the call light, and your needs may be met in order received. be patient be understanding, be courteous to the staff and it will return to you tenfold. be sure to ask questions, advocate for yourself.

Every staff member we've encountered has been helpful, patient, and genuinely caring. They don't just treat my mom like a patient--they treat her like a person. Over time, so many of the staff have become familiar faces and almost like friends to our family. What has touched us the most is seeing staff members come in, sometimes simply to talk with my mom, check on her, or spend a little time with her. Those moments may seem small, but they mean so much to our family. It shows that they genuinely care about her as a person and not just as another patient on their assignment. Everyone has been so willing to answer our questions, listen to our concerns, and make sure my mom is comfortable and receiving the care she needs. Whether it's the nurses, CNAs, therapists, or other staff, we have consistently felt supported and cared for. We are incredibly grateful for the compassion, patience, and kindness they have shown my mom and our entire family. They took a situation that began with a lot of worry and uncertainty and made us feel welcomed, supported, and reassured.
