I stopped by today to try and learn and figure out what plants I'm allowed in my HOA. I was treated right away the staff was amazing. I can't remember the guys name but they taught me a lot on what type of plants I'm allowed to use. They introduced me to Angele and right away I can tell she loved what she does here. She walked me around to explain pros and cons of everything. I felt so bad cause it was drizzling on us and she didn't have a rain coat. Out of the few nursery's I'm gone to this place was by far the friendliest and most knowledgeable. read more

We visited this nursery last weekend as my daughter was interested in buying some California native plants and they had a nice selection. They have quite a variety and some unique plants I haven't seen any where else, however I would recommend inspecting the plants thoroughly before purchasing. We bought a beautiful strawberry plant but didn't realize it was infested with the largest mealy bugs I've ever seen. (I didn't know mealy bugs could run like that) read more

They don't have an indoor plant collection at all. Lowe's and Home Depot have far healthier plants than what I saw at this nursery. Many of the indoor plants here had lots of brown spots on the leaves and did not look good. Disappointing experience. read more

A month ago I came by and they sell nursery pots. Today, I came by and the young man at the counter said they no longer sell them. Like really? "They used to but they don't anymore unless you buy a plant." He didn't seem certain with his answer but didn't bother asking his colleagues anyway. It's the only nursery store in the world that doesn't sell single nursery pots to customers. Unbelievable! read more

Started going here looking for some Rose trees and eventually and boy they had a collection to choose from. Since then the Nursery has been my staple when it comes to finding some/anything for the garden and am never disappointed. Whether it be finding the herbs for the season, veggie planters, flowering plants , garden soil et al they got it all. Lot of options to choose from and they definitely back what they sell and commit to their words. I had an issues with one of the rose plants not blooming into the color that was advertised on the plant though they made up for it perfectly fine. Shout out to Mallory who is super helpful anytime you may have a question and if she happens to be around. Onto more future trips and purchases from the nursery. read more

Always love our trips to Almaden Nursery! My young kids love taking a nice stroll around in the wagons, and the well kept grounds and fountains make for a very peaceful atmosphere. The staff is friendly and helpful whenever I have questions to ask. I love supporting a smaller business, rather than Home Depot or some other big box store. Yes, you may pay a bit more, but it will help ensure that all of these nice, smaller stores can stick around. They always have a great selection of plants, and we have had very good luck with plants that we bring home (as long as we follow the care instructions). A lovely local Nursery! I was impressed by their selection of indoor plants. A few Varieties of Calatheas, Hoyas, and a surprising amount of string of plants. String of hearts, string of turtles, string of coins, string of dolphins, string of pearls just to list a few. Be on the lookout for their store cat lounging around. read more

Love this nursery just at my neighborhood. It's basically our families little retreat place: my kid will say hello to the cats, walking around like in a garden, and for me is a treasure hunt. I appreciate the fact that they have some varieties which are not easy to be found in local, such as roses from David Austin, Meilland, and Kordes. They have peonies. Both Itoh peonies and herbaceous peonies. It really sparked joy when I found Sarah Bernhardt (peony), Plum Perfect (rose from Kordes) and Eden (rose from Meilland) during some random trips there. In terms of customer service, I haven't experienced any unpleasant experience for the past 3 years. I haven't tried some advanced services, such as special orders (don't know if I can do that or not), but I'm satisfied with having a nursery/garden that we can frequently visit. read more

This is a wonderful nursery to visit. It is a mid-sized nursery, they have a lot of variety but most are plant that would do well in this area, so you don't have to worry about planting something and finding it dead a few days later. They are a little more expensive than your chain hardware store's nursery but the plants are in a lot better shape. The layout of this nursery is also beautiful and well organized. If you want something super unusual or harder to grow, they are really good about referring you to someone who would carry what you are looking for. Their gift shop has a lot of seasonal item and gifts that are great for moms. I heard great things about this nursery, and have always seen it driving by or on a walk around the lake. I was looking for something in particular, and I called to see if they carried watermelon radish seeds as OSH and Home Depot didn't. They did and I was on my way! When I walked in, I was so lost in where to find the seeds, and there were no workers around to help. I did find the seeds, but not the ones I was looking for so I asked a worker if she could help me. She gave me the most unwelcoming look and she couldn't find it either, which I thought was so odd since I had just called. She was not friendly at all, it was like I did something wrong to ask her to find something for me. I finally found it on my own. Poor customer service here, which I wouldn't expect from a mom and pop type shop that charges extra for their items. read more

I've shopped here for years, but I am disappointed with this last transaction. I checked the nursery a few times for three plants that I wanted, but they just didn't have the colors I was looking for. I decided to ask about special ordering. I watched as she took down my information, and I made sure it was all correct. The young woman assured me that they could get the plants but...COVID...it could take 2-4 weeks. That was fine...I'd love them sooner, but I totally get it. I checked in with then at 2 weeks (told them that they could order larger ones if that made things easier for them...rather than restricting to only 1-gallon plants), so they looked at my paperwork then (hopefully). I also checked at 3 weeks, to ask if they would call me if they couldn't get the plants because I didn't want to wait a few more weeks if they couldn't get them to order somewhere else. I hadn't heard from them.This time they didn't look up my order specifically but assured me that they would call if they couldn't get them...they were just having trouble getting a lot of things right now. Okay, cool...not ideal, but there's nothing anyone can do about that! I hadn't heard anything at all and it had been 5 weeks, so I called them to find out what the status was. The woman who answered said she'd have to check with the manager who handles the special orders and call me back (no problem). I did get a prompt reply, but it was very strange. "We don't see the order here and that means it must have been filed, and the manager told me that the only way that happens is when they've called and left several messages." I explained that that couldn't be the case here. I had been waiting for the plants and had answered all calls, checked all voice mails, and had no texts or e-mails. Why would I be calling now if they had reached out to me. She reiterated that the ONLY way this happens is when they've called me SEVERAL times. I (VERY) politely pointed out that the order also COULD have been misplaced. It is, after all, just a slip of paper (about half a sheet of standard paper) that is filled out by hand. There is (of course) more than one reason for paperwork to not be there other than being filed! Lots of papers get misplaced. She was VERY insistent AGAIN that there was no other possibility than them having tried to contact me several times, and when they got no response, they filed the paper. I remained kind the whole conversation despite essentially being told I was wrong...I did something wrong...and they were right. Never was it brought up that they could try to order them again...or that they were sorry for the mix up. There was no mix up. It was obviously me missing "several" attempts to contact me. She said I could come and get the colors they had in stock...I didn't bother to bring up that if I'd have wanted those colors, I could have purchased those nearly 6 weeks before. I'm a push over...I'm a sucker. I'm always nice with mistakes, but blaming me isn't going to work for me. Sorry! read more

Awful service, prices and attitude. I brought in a little cactus that I needed some advice, food and help with. The girl behind the desk could barely lift her head to point me to the cactus food, then I asked her to help me with replanting it to a larger pot. She said they don't do that, and don't have the time to give me advice. I could not believe it, and could not believe that someone would hire, and keep someone so incompetent. I will never come back, and on nextdoor.com, someone posted about their awful experience there too and in one hour, the post was filled with people who, like me, got the same terrible service. Such a great place. Plants were beautiful, very nice layout and thoroughly thought out. Boyfriend and I enjoyed walking around and seeing the variety of plants. Everything so detailed on plants so I know if it's something I could keep alive and thriving! Customer service was ok but the kids around cleaning and watering weren't ones you should have out by customers, no hello, no smiles, no attempt to converse and ask if we were looking for anything in particular. Probably not a good place to go for indoor plants. The 4" golden pothos they sold me for 15 bucks was just a pile of barely rooted cuttings. No new leaf growth for a month, losing its variegation even in perfect light and humidity conditions. One of my pothos stalks was a wet stick that turns out... didn't have roots at all. The lack of care for these plants astounds me. You'd think it'd be easy to check if your wet sticks have rooted but I guess not. Totally regret this purchase considering I could get a lush trailing 8" pothos at Home Depot, OSH, or Summerwinds for less. It was my first plant so I really wanted to love it but as my collection grows and I become more educated about gardening I realize this place has sold me the worst, unhealthiest, ugliest plants at the highest prices. Normally I'd always choose to support local businesses over big box stores but frankly I don't want to support this either. Bad customer service too. Cashier barely acknowledged my existence. read more

I have been buying my roses, shrubs & trees here for YEARS. They have the best selection of roses I have ever seen. All the plants purchased there are still alive--8years now. I made the mistake of buying roses from Home Depot and they didn't last long. (I have a serious green thumb too!) and a lot of the times those places have the plant labeled wrong. I had the worse experience in nursery ever at your place. It would be nice if you kindly update your FB page that you do not let anyone go in after 3:30pm. I arrived at 3:35pm, I was told I cannot go in, which is fine, I politely explained to your staff that I couldn't come from 10-3:30pm but I need to buy 2 tree roses, asked if there is any other way he can help since I was there already, he said come on another day. I explained couple times that I couldn't due to kids learning restrictions, I asked if you guys carry tree roses, he said yes, come check it out another day. I asked him which types, I wish to get combination color types and he said yes, you guys carries it but he doesn't know which type. I asked if he could get me a list, he said come another day to find out. I asked couple times if I could find information somewhere else, and he said FB. I check immediately but couldn't find it and he said he can't help, he don't know where to find it. I asked if he can't ask someone that knows the answer, he said he can't. Since I just keep asking him questions, finally he asked someone, then he came back and said check FB, there is a list. I checked and found that it has a Bush rose list, I asked him if tree rose is different? That is a list for Bush rose, and he said he can't help. Under pandemic situation, with all the changes, I understand it is not easy for everyone, he said he have to make sure people come out on time and so he cannot ask anyone to help me. That's helpful, I asked him if he have told the person he asked that I am looking for tree rose and that list for Bush rose may or may not apply to what I need, and he said I yelled at him. Well to start the review, we have been going to this nursery for the last 6 years and always liked their selection of plants (indoor and outdoor). This review is all about customer service and the way the Nick (manager)handled our situation. Our family have been buying Christmas trees from them for the last 5 years and we do that so we can support local businesses, not because they are outstanding or because of their pricing. They are very expensive but we still go there. Our family and several family members were always hesitant to buy there because of their prices but we insisted on giving the local nursery the support. We always buy our trees the day after Thanksgiving and seemed to never have any problems until this year. Well, we bought our tree like we always do, but this tree lasted 3 weeks. (DEAD). Very disappointed. So I decided to go talk to them about getting some type of compensation for the inconvenience. By this point , we had payed 200 dollars for a tree and wanted to feel good about the nursery standing behind their trees but no way with Nick. He basically blamed us for probably not taking care of it and it was our fault. We do the same thing every year to the trees. We buy and put them in the same place every year. I was told by an employee that they bought their trees from another farm and Nick denied that fact. Well, I walked out with no sorry, no let's compensate you for your inconvenience, nothing. Last time I will shop there or my family members. Very sad that they do not know how to value their customers. read more

I shopped here 3 times, first time bought 3 Provence lavender $10/ each, everything was fine. 2nd time, bought 4 all dies after 2 weeks. And 3rd time, my wife brought 4 more home, the leaves had kind of thin white powder on them, then they all dies again short after they arrived. This place won't accept dead plants back like big stores so be careful when choosing your plant. So it was a big lesson for wasting my $80 read more

Almaden Valley Nursery has been one of my favorite places to buy trees,plants, soil, gardening items, seeds, native CA plants, much more. Fabulous gift shop, too. Great customer service and friendly and knowledgeable employees. Plants are healthy and seem to do far better than if purchased elsewhere. Now with the shelter in place, fresh produce can be hard to find, crowding in stores etc.... decided to plan a garden... Called AVN, gave an order, paid over the phone, pulled up it was all loaded for me No contact great service!! This place is a gem! read more
