I love this place! Staff is very friendly. This is the second time I've visited. Keaton greeted us and helped us find what we were looking for. Their selection was great and it was fun checking out all the different varieties. If I could give Mike Vogel, owner of Menlo Growers, 0 stars I would. This is the second time he has delivered a large citrus tree to my home that is unhealthy and should never have been sold. The first 45 gallon Owari Shiranui Mandarin (Sumo Citrus) was diseased and he subsequently threw out all of his 25 and 45 gallon inventory. The second (25 gallon) Gold Nugget Mandarin was infested with mealybugs and had fruit from last season to make it look more attractive in pictures. The GN tree cannot stand on its own, appears to be plucked from a farm & rooted, is infested with mealybugs, and has dropped all leaves and fruit. Instead of taking responsibility and replacing or refunding, he blames me stating I'm not watering enough. Meanwhile, all of my fruit trees from other nurseries are thriving. Buyers beware of a horrible experience working with Mike Vogel. read more

I had to purchase a dwarf lemon tree for a client and I spoke with Mike. Mike is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The tree was very reasonably priced and he was also going to deliver it to our client who lives 5/6 hours away from me and the delivery charge was extremely reasonable too. However, I couldn't get the ball rolling so I had to pick the plant up myself and he immediately refunded me the delivery charge. I also had a pleasant conversation with Mike about food and restaurants and he was very pleasant. I had to message him a few times and he was always responsive. Menlo growers seems to be a very successful business and although I only bought one little plant from Mike, he was extremely professional and answered all my questions, sent me pictures of the plant I purchased. One of the best ever customer service experiences. Also, the client loved the tree, and it survived UPS ground shipping! read more

Highly recommend this establishment!!! Usually don't bother with reviews, because I either buy or don't, based on what I see with my own eyes. However, as I searched high and low for a pink grapefruit tree...shoot anywhere in America, at this point! None could be found, unless I was willing to pay WAY TOO much. As my search continued, I finally came across MENLO GROWERS...Lucky break!! First of all, their price was several hundred less than others had quoted me at...no joke! That's because this is the hub for California, as it turned...apparently Southern Cal has been on quarantine. And, if you've ever tried to purchase on line from other states, so many of the growers "won't ship to California..." So yeah, it was a battle...but like I said, got real lucky being persistent and finding MENLO GROWERS - Score!! Honestly was so impressed with this lovely place in Gilroy. Everything I saw was pretty pristine and obviously well cared for! I could have stayed all day, just combing over row after row and lovely vegetation...some younger trees, and some more mature trees with vibrant fruit- a garden lover's paradise!! I took the drive from SLO and so glad I did. I found both Mike and Kate to be very knowledgable and helpful, and professional. Kate is gregarious and hard working; she is the person I came in physical contact with...very "on it!" Furthermore, the tree I purchased is so beautiful and healthy!! I put her in the best spot in my garden and looking forward to watching her grow and to the time I can eat that first pink grapefruit :0) Want to thank both Mike and Kate for their efforts...Kate, thank you for picking out a perfectly adorable pink grapefruit tree for me...she's a beaut!! And, believe me, I have already talked this place up to everyone I know who is serious about their gardening!! LOVE THIS BUSINESS!! The owners & nursery manager are spectacular. Very good at communicating and helping with everything I needed. Their plants are top notch and the nursery is very well organized and clean. I thought it was quite strange that there were a couple reviews about how the manager was rude. I study body language and psychology and I notice that the manger matches the energy/attitude given towards her, therefore I can only imagine that the reviews about the manager being rude is only because they were being rude in the first place. They also mention the plastic covers in the door way, because of covid they put them up to block people from gathering in there as well as to keep distance for where their workers eat their lunch. Same as to we aren't allowed into break rooms of other businesses. All in all this is by far the best nursery I've been to, and the manager definitely knows her plants. She doesn't beat around the bush but gets straight to the point. It's a lovely nursery and they have great plants, you will need to walk around and pick the plants u want (if they are bigger they will have a buggy get them). Make sure you bring comfy shoes! read more

I had decided, after eating a ton of Clementines from the grocery store that I wanted to plant one of these trees. After calling many nursuries, I found that this type of tree must be very popular and only the smalles, 5 gal size was available. I contacted Menlo Growers and at first it also seemed like they didn't have the 15 gal. size that I wanted. But I was put in touch with Kate who was on site. She went to the W. Murcott trees and told me she was standing in front of five 15 gallon plants and she would hold one for me. I drove to Gilroy two days later and she pulled out a very nice tree with four large mandarines on it. She picked a half dozen ripe fruit from some of the other standard trees ( I got the dwarf). She was also very knowledgeable regarding advice on caring for the tree. Its a very interesting nursury with a very large variety of fruit trees, especially citrus. Many of the trees have ripe fruit on them so you likely could taste the fruit of the type of tree you are getting. It seems like they have enough that they could sell in a farmers market if they wanted to. I think it is a great place and would highly recommend it. Doug read more

One of our absolute favorite tree nurseries! We love to grow tropicals and this place is STOCKED with all kinds of varieties of citrus, avocado, mango, cass, and other exotics. Pixie, Clementine and Satsuma tangerines, Tangelos, Bearss Limes, Improved Meyer Lemon, WA Navel Oranges and Valencia Oranges all do well in this Gilroy/San Martin climate. Very high quality stock in a wide range of plant sizes. Delivery of large items is available at reasonable rate and, unless you have a truck and know what you're doing, very advisable to use this. I wanted to love this place, but the customer service here is lacking. They have a great variety of fruits, a lot of citrus in large containers (ie mature but expensive) but signage is lacking on variety and price. You can try to flag someone to ask what variety everything is and what price, but good luck finding someone. When it's time to checkout, you stand outside this curtained shed that you're not allowed to go into and though you can hear people inside chatting, no one will come out to help you. So not sure how you're supposed to buy anything. The pricing on their 5 gallon trees is the same as sloat so you're not getting a deal driving all the way out here. Great if you know exactly what you want and don't need any help, not worth it otherwise. read more

I called the nursery to inquire whether it had any purple passion fruit plants. The recording told me to call or text "Mike." I texted Mike and was told they had one small plant. I asked the price and he said he didn't know but probably under $50. Seemed like an odd answer. Couldn't he check? Anyway, I asked him to please leave it at the register for me and I would come pick it up. When I arrived, the woman behind the plastic curtain asked if I needed help and I told her that Mike had placed a passion fruit plant here for me and I gave my name. She looked at me very rudely and waved her hands gesturing that I needed to continue with my explanation. I looked at her confused and she said, "And what kind of plant is it!" I couldn't believe how rude she was. I told her I had just stated it was a passion fruit plant to which she remarked, "Oh, I didn't hear you. Here, print your name here" and handed me a clipboard. I had been here once before many months ago and I recall that this woman was rude, but I was willing to put up with it. This time, however, I couldn't. I told her "Nevermind, I'm going to pass." And she said shrugged and simply said ok as she walked away. (I got the sense this may not have been the first time she's had customers walk away from her rudeness). Although I live just down the street and believe in supporting small local businesses, I will never come here again. read more

One of my all time favorite nurseries. Huge property. Their selection is enormous and cannot be matched when it comes to fruit trees, especially citrus, but they have just about everything including stone fruit trees and even exotic tropical things like guava, Surinam cherry, dragon fruit, loquat and more. I just love this place. And the staff is super helpful and hard working. The hours are basically 'most of the time' even though their website shows limited hours. This is definitely a great place to go! I had a great experience in buying a lemon, orange, persimmons, avocado, Jujubi, apple, and etc. They have a lot to choose from. The people worked there were very friendly and helped me find those good looking and well grown trees which you can rarely find from other places. The 5 or 6-in-1 apple tree is so beautiful. My kids love it! We can't wait till the fruits come ripe. The owner Mike was extremely nice and gave me many tips of how to plant them in and how to take good care of them by watering properly and fertilizing correctly. I'm very thankful to Mike's help!!!
