I have so many childhood memories at this park! I use to come here all the time to feed the ducks, watch the fireworks during July 4th, bbqs, and my cross country team often trained here! Nowadays, I'm usually here to run! I always feel good whenever I come here! I like to people watch and it's always nice to see families having birthday parties or parents coming to cheer on their little ones for sports games. I really feel like I live in a tight knit community. THE GOODS: -great running trail. I think a complete figure eight, which goes around the pond and bball courts is a little over a mile. -happy kids, families, people from all sorts enjoying the great outdoors! -benches and tables for parties -the good 'ol pond -abundant parking GOOD/BAD: -crazy squirrels!!! I hate, hate squirrels and the ones that live here are like ninjas! They pop up from nowhere and I literally feel like I'm doing an obstacle course sometimes. -crazy ducks! If you sit on the grass near the pond, beware! I got "pecked" once and it hurt like hell. The animals here run around like nobody's business. -the man who bbq's on the days their are softball/baseball games. Sooooo difficult to run past him and smell the burgers and hotdogs... evil. I'm so glad that I live so close to here because Almansor Park is an awesome park! Ever since I signed up for my first 5K (The Color Run), I have been coming here almost every other day for training, thanks to the very nice running track that it has here. The big lap runs at 0.6 miles while the smaller lap runs at 0.4 miles. Besides running/walking, there are plenty of other activities that you can do here with its numerous facilities: -Lawn bowling (mostly played by the older folks) -Parcourse training (Over 12 stations to strech your body) -6 outdoor basketball courts -Indoor basketball court -Ping-pong -Picnic tables -Barbecues grill -Watching/feeding ducks (Although there is a sign that tells you not to feed the ducks, people do it anyway) -Soccer field -Baseball field -Tennis Courts This park also has an abundant amount of squirrels which they call home. WARNINGS: There's literally geese/duck droppings pretty much all over the grass area as well as the track so WATCH YOUR STEP because some are fresh... So...when running/walking on the track, look out for duck scat on the ground as well as swarms of gnats in the air :o(. Restrooms are filthy... but at least they're available! OKAY, but other than that.... this is a great park with various activities! -You can play basketball at the court with the swarm of people. -Hit a few balls at the tennis court -Play badminton,volleyball, or join the Zumba in the gym -Bring your kids to the playground available -Run/Walk around the track! -There's an expansive mostly level field as well where people bring their own equipment to play soccer, football, Frisbee, baseball, or simply sit around with family! There are only about 6 'workout/stretch stations', it's aiighttt. So far I've been coming almostt every weekday this summer and the track is pretty empty at 5-7 when the sun's out. I come here for two things. Run and driving range. The track is nicely paved and renewed every once in a while. A great place to train for those marathon and whatever K runs. Although this big park attracts a lot of visitors from surrounding areas, there is always enough room for me and group of 5+ to run together. This place keeps me fit and has proven to improve my overall run times and health. The vast amount of greenery gives off a health dose of oxygen for trainers. The driving range is where I usually go for fun after running. At night it's pretty packed, but you can usually find an open spot if you are patient enough. During summer nights there are annoying fleas everywhere though. Parking is great here, so many different areas to park around the area. read more

I have come to this place many times to play badminton and most of the time the people in charge of taking down the nets are never here. I am very upset that no one is here in charge of the courts and no one is answering the phone. Most of the people tell me that the people in charge of taking down the nets come around 8 and that's 1 hour before closing badminton. Almansor Park has many wonderful attributes. Lawn bowling, multiple diamonds for baseball, or softball, basketball courts, golf course and footpaths and so much more! It's amazing. However, if while you are enjoying the park you have the misfortune of having to urinate, you had better be prepared. I will provide the necessary information that is needed. 1. Waders or wellies must be fully rubber and at least ankle high 2. Lysol spray 3. Toilet paper 4. Hand sanitizer 5. Breathing mask 6. Matches It is that bad. The men's soap dispensers, next the baseball diamonds, are empty for the second Saturday in a row. There are preschedule events for every weekend at this park and Alhambra Parks and Recs has failed to fill them up before the weekend. I tried to email Parks and Recs, however, there is no generic to make them AWARE of this issue. There is also nobody working the phones on weekends. So I'm goin g to social media to make hem aware. I think this is one of the nicest parks around the Alhambra / Monterey Park area. Cleanest? Maybe not. But visually, it's one of the best. The track during weekdays is usually crowded with seniors walking. If you're trying to squeeze in a good run before class or work, I suggest coming either super early, or later. The older people tend to get in the way with their groups. They block the whole track and what's worse is when they bring their umbrellas! Also, watch out for the squirrels. They're kinda mean... and fat. Maybe it's cause everyone feeds them and they've gotten to know humans better than squirrels you may find at Whittier Narrows. It looks pretty nice, especially the gazebo area and near the pond, except for the ridiculous amount of poop on the ground. That area is nice for any photoshoots or whatnot. A lot of kids usually come and take their prom pictures by the rocks and the occasional wedding pictures. :) read more

Been a while since I've been around Almansor Park. When I was younger, I'd come here to run on the track, play basketball or head over to the Almansor Driving Range / Golf Course. That's the thing about this place - so much to do if you're into sports. They also have tennis courts, baseball field and a small pond area where ducks love to relax. Only thing if you're aren't able to play at the basketball gym, you're resorted to play outside and it's not your typical full basketball court. There are about 8 baskets all of which are smaller than your average sized half courts. Best you can do is play 2vs2 or 3vs3. Anything bigger and you're going to get in the way of another group playing. You can expect a good crowd on the track on days that are cool. People walking don't know how to move to the right so you'll end up running on both the track and the grass area. You'll just have to get used to the crowd. There are some fitness stops but definitely could be better as some are in locations that can be lost. If you're running at night, it's best you go with someone especially when the time comes that the bright white lights turn off. Even with the florescent light, it's still not bright enough in some areas of the track. Overall there are a lot of things to do here at the park. Seems like they do remodel it from time to time which is a good time. read more

Used to love this park back in high school .. maybe i'm taking it too much for granted here. There is a little water fall in the pond towards the middle near the gazebo with some nice rocks and ducks that get way too close to people! I guess they're just friendly duckies =) The walk/jog/running path is slowly getting more and more destroyed every day. I went back a couple days ago and some parts were ripped off, some had cracks in them, etc. THEY DID re-do the kids section. It looks nicer than it was before. As for parking, there is inside parking (near the kids play area), a parking lot on both sides of the tennis court, and some street parking. Great park for everyone of all ages. There are BBQ areas, basketball courts, playgrounds, tennis courts, baseball fields, a track, and a golf course (on the other side of the park). Best part of all, you get to see ducks, turtles, cranes, geese, and even pelicans! Just saw a pod of them the other day. Even though they tell you not to feed the animals, I see everyone doing it. Hint hint, these animals love bread and cereal. Watch where you're stepping! As with all places containing animals, there are a lot of doo doo, especially on the grass. Don't feel like spending money, but you really want to see fireworks? Well, this is the place to go. This park offers FREE fireworks. Parking can get hectic on this day, so please come early to get a good parking spot. read more

I swing just about every quarter when I go home and my brother drags me out to run the track they have there. For most of the track, it's padded so it's really nice. They have basketball courts, a baseball field, playgrounds, and tennis courts. I'm disappointed that they don't have a swimming pool, but I guess it can't have everything. :-) There are also so many fond memories I have of this park. I used to have Campus service club meetings here, my AP Bio class stuck our hands into the pond they had there to measure dissolved oxygen, and of course, the annual firework show they have there on July 4th. read more

Came here yesterday afternoon around 7:30pm for a jog. It's a nice park, although pretty crowded. There's a lot going on- baseball game, people playing frisbee, basketball, volleyball (indoors), walking, etc. There's a matted track to run around which was nice since I was tired of running on dirt. Although it was tough having to run around everyone else who was walking! Loop is pretty small though; about half a mile according to my run tracker. There's a golf course on the side, and a pond with ducks and seating as well. Lots of families and kids. For the area, I think Almansor is a pretty good park in providing different areas for sports (baseball, especially), yet being variable enough to have a few picnic areas, especially a shelter next to the pond/lake for parties. Parking can be a bit more difficult during weekends when everyone's trying to attend a sport game, but, for the most part, it's pretty manageable. If you do want to rent the shelter, you do have to call ahead of time to book it. Please don't feed the turtles or ducks! Please don't bring your unwanted turtles here; go to an actual animal shelter and dump them there if you're inept to take care of them. There is a huge overcrowding issue at Almansor with people just dumping their unwanted pet turtles. Not cool! Also, no dogs allowed! Makes me sad, as I have a pup that I wouldn't have minded bringing here. Of course, other people don't care and still bring their dogs. Guys, just read the rules and obey them! Located in the city of Alhambra, this park offers so much more than meets the eye when you initially drive by it. I've actually driven past this particular over many years, but only have recently started getting myself familiar with this area. From the exterior, it looks like any other random park that you're use to seeing. However, this park boasts many things that a lot of people wouldn't even know it houses if you haven't actually walked into it and explored. They have a driving golf range that boosts two levels of ball whacking fun. Since they close at midnight, it's usually a good place to just de-stress or just hit a couple of balls out into the open space with some friends for fun. In addition to that, there are tennis courts, tracks for running or just walking for younger and older folks, as well as some stretching areas located around the track for those that want to get a good stretching workout mid-way. With lots of greenery and lots of locals walking around at all hours of the day, the park can get pretty packed depending on which area you're at. For the track and field area, the overhead lights turn off around 10pm which gives you ample time to take a walk after dinner for those who want to find something to do. I have lived so close to this park for more than 10 years. You can do everything here. I usually come here to run with my cousin. 1 whole round i equivalent to a mile. It's pretty nice running at the park rather than on a treadmill. In the mornings, there are some people walking, but if you don't mind running around them, then you're good. It's clean here. A nice walk and talk with my sis around the track after brunch felt peaceful. The place is full of people, but not too crowded, yet the place is still clean and safe to be at. The track seems to be made with light-green spongy and synthetic material that makes it lighter and easier to walk with your shoes. We walked around 5 laps; I had my "Pokemon Go" on to help hatch some eggs, and seems like 3 laps is 2km. Yes, amazing park for Pokemon Go! I caught a lot just walking around and noticed a lot of players on their phones as well doing the same. And I like how I can recycle my items per lap with their Poke-Stop. Every time I have been here during the day-light, I have noticed the picnic areas are full of people (seems like b-day party). This park has it all without the bells and whistles. I've been coming here since I was a kid and I am very impressed with how the park has been improved along the years. Almansor Park lies next to a golfing range and has a huge track that loops around the premises in a figure eight- this gives you the option to run aroung the entire track or circle around one of the two mini-tracks. From a fellow runner to other fellow runners: one loop around the entire figure-eight track is about 1.1 miles. As you can guess, everyone and their mom in the 626 area comes to Almansor to power walk after their evening meal so you have to dodge elderly women if you're running. Just last night, an old lady almost slapped me in the face because she suddenly decided to do arm stretches as I was about to pass her on the left. Luckily, my speed training allowed me to quickly sidestep her attack and continue on my run. The track also has little mini calisthenic stations all along the route so you can stop every 0.2 miles and do pushups or pullups on the stations. It sounds silly but it helps break up the tedium if you're doing a long run. The park has quite a few baseball fields where seasonal leagues practice and play. There are even basketball courts (ouudoor and indoor), an indoor vollyball court, a lawn bowling field (rightt??!), and an awesome renovated kids playground. The bathroom facilities can be tidier, especially during baseball tournaments, but I always see the staff milling around the park so I think they're doing the best they can. There are plenty of picnic tables to host birthday parties, BBQs or hang out with friends.... or to do you box jumps like I do! Most importantly, the park feels incredibly safe! I work full time but train for marathons so I have to fit in long runs whenever I can- this means waking up at 4 AM to run on a weekday before work or embarking on a long run on Friday night so I can have Saturday night free to paint the town red. I always feel safe enough to run at all hours of the day here with headphones in. Lighting can be improved, especially in the back area by the indoor courts/pond, but lighting around the field side of the park is always sufficient. I noticed that the field lights turn off at different times but I haven't figured out the schedule- I wish the park posted a bulletin somewhere. Anyway, this is one of my favorite parks to run at because the 1 mile track makes it easy to motivate myself to run another mile. And the convenient bathrooms and water fountains along the running route are another bonus. read more

Me and my family had been to this park for more than 12 years, I practically raised my kid here, and in these 12 years we never had any issues regarding our dog until now, these so called "employees" are telling us to not bring dogs to the park for they can bite people and poop all over the place, our dog is fully house trained and isn't the type of dog that would SHIT everywhere like what they assume. they also say that the dogs aren't suppose to go to the play area EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE LEASHED. It has many resources that can appeal to all age groups, leaving behind a deluge of visiting locals on a regular basis. Let me do it like this ... since a park is something I usually don't review, I'm going to tell you why this is a good place to bring a first date: - If you do just about any of the actviities available around the park, there's a good chance that you'll get to see your date's bodily fluids. - Make sure you stress the importance of stretching before any physical activity, there are several stretching stations around the walking/running track. You can find out how flexible she is, it may come in handy. - If your date happens to play tennis, there are a good amount of courts. But if you don't get there early enough, you may have to wait. But patience is a virtue so if you're good ... you'll get a sneak preview of how sex might sound with all the grunts and moans as balls fly around her face. - Because the basketball courts are outdoors, there are no rules against hand-checking like in the NBA. Go ahead and accidentally hand-check her chest and say "sorry, I'm super-competitive, I didn't mean to grope your chest" - If the date goes well, you can introduce her to one of your family members, that is if your Asian because I'm almost positive that one of your relatives are there because you'll find a group everywhere on the weekend either doing line dancing or tai-chi. - The perfect ending to a good date .... find a good place to eat near by the park. You're in SGV so I'm sure you'll find some place. If those are not good enough reasons for you to come here with a date ... then it's OK to come by yourself or with some friends to get your exercise on. This is the largest park in the 626. They have a gym, a winding track, 3 tennis courts, a baseball field, a facility, a pond and soccer courts. There is lots to do here. I set up a volleyball net on weekends to play with friends. There is lots of parking around the park and street parking but when there are games going, it gets packed. The lighting here is good. I say its the one relationship that fucks up everything for ya in your future courting endeavours. It will make or break you!!! Anyway, this park is awesome. It is big with tennis courts, basketball courts, huge field for soccer players, a track surrounding it for the runners, a children's area with slides and swings, a baseball field, an indoor gym with a b-ball court that can be transformed for ping pong and badminton players and .. it's just huge! I remember when I was shootin' hoops in 8th grade here. My best friend and I were usually the only chicks. We'd team up with strange guys and kick their ass as they try to get to know us better. "Are you in high school?" - guy. "I'm 13, leave me alone," I tell them as I go for a lay up. You can meet a lot of interesting folks here. They have a lake that separates them from the Alhambra golf course. Ducks shit and pee there. You can chase the birds away til' your heart's content. Its a great place to BBQ, chill, spend time with family/friends. Parking could be a little hard to find though especially on weekends. Great workout alternative when I am not feeling the gym. Came here for a jog last night and found it extremely hard to complete my workout because there are so many people strolling on the track instead of running! 1.I almost ran into a couple of people because they would just stop in the middle of nowhere. 2.I also had to run on the grass for a while too because there were too many people on the track. Love the fact that I am actually breathing in fresh air when doing my workout, but annoyed about the fact that I didn't work out as hard as I wanted to. Almansor Park - you're such a nice place to relax and go for a run. But I can't seem to get that relaxation or enjoyment. Why? Because you have WAY too many people mobbing the place at all times. I usually go to Almansor to run their short track - one lap being .6 miles is good for both short and long distance training. Plus, the track that you run on is easy for the feet and is well defined for majority of the lap. The main problem? The run becomes somewhat of an obstacle course when you're trying to dodge little kids meandering around, or the annoying middle aged Asian folk (sorry if this offends anyone) that refuse to budge even when they see you coming up from behind them. One old man even persisted to get in my way. I tried going around him from the right and he actually stepped into my way. So I decide to go left, and sure enough, he shifts left. *sigh* What did I ever do to you?! All in all, the park is pretty darned safe. There's good lighting and there's always so many people there, you're bound to be in someone's sight at all times - little risk of danger during high tide. Now that I think of it, I actually don't know why I still frequent the park. For training purposes, the Rose Bowl is probably your best bet. 5km per lap - it's good! It holds great memories for me!! Almansor Park is definitely one of the nicer parks around the area. Its full of life throughout the day (and night). If you're into basketball, its a great place to meet up with other locals to have a pick up game. If you're into running, they have a huge field and a nice track to jog on. If your kid wants to play, they have a nice swing set (although a bit old) to play on. Almansor Park also has a huge duck pond, where many people come to feed the ducks. I used to come to this park all the time and ride my bike around it. Holy hell, what a great park centered around Alhambra. All around it is a good amount of suburban homes. So it meant that cars weren't going to plow you when you took your bike across the street. I've also spent a couple of 4th of July's here. It's a lot of legal firework shows so you don't have to piss away any money away on those blowing up thing. The park is actually very spacious for what you would expect it to be. There's basketball courts, tennis is also a fun activity to do here where you can actually get a court for yourself without too much of a wait. The amount of shade here isn't all that much. I guess it just depends on what part you are in it. But a the outer rim of it has more trees than the inside of the park. So coming for a picnic can be a bit of a issue on finding somewhere in the park to plant your butt. But over all, it can really be a nice sit down under the trees, even if they are close to the cars and just enjoy a book, some sodas or just people watching as they jog by. A great park all around.
