Almansor Park - you're such a nice place to relax and go for a run. But I can't seem to get that relaxation or enjoyment. Why? Because you have WAY too many people mobbing the place at all times. I usually go to Almansor to run their short track - one lap being .6 miles is good for both short and long distance training. Plus, the track that you run on is easy for the feet and is well defined for majority of the lap. The main problem? The run becomes somewhat of an obstacle course when you're trying to dodge little kids meandering around, or the annoying middle aged Asian folk (sorry if this offends anyone) that refuse to budge even when they see you coming up from behind them. One old man even persisted to get in my way. I tried going around him from the right and he actually stepped into my way. So I decide to go left, and sure enough, he shifts left. *sigh* What did I ever do to you?! All in all, the park is pretty darned safe. There's good lighting and there's always so many people there, you're bound to be in someone's sight at all times - little risk of danger during high tide. Now that I think of it, I actually don't know why I still frequent the park. For training purposes, the Rose Bowl is probably your best bet. 5km per lap - it's good! A little further, but I tend to like it a lot better. read more

I have to come clean and say that I am bias when it comes to this park! I have grown up in the this community my whole life and have been running at this park since I was one!! It holds great memories for me!! Here are reasons why I love this park and I will try not to be bias: 1) the people are nice 2) clean park 3) always a soccer/baseball game going on 4) great running track 5) cute ducks in the pond 6) 1 mean goose and 2 nice one- but highly entertaining!!! 7) there are people running or playing through out the day - one would feel really safe at this park 8) great place to watch fireworks on fourth of july 9) can BBQ at the park 10) has a basketball court near by 11) green grass - great to picnic or naps 12) spacious These are some of my reasons!! Almansor Park is definitely one of the nicer parks around the area. Its full of life throughout the day (and night). If you're into basketball, its a great place to meet up with other locals to have a pick up game. If you're into running, they have a huge field and a nice track to jog on. If your kid wants to play, they have a nice swing set (although a bit old) to play on. Almansor Park also has a huge duck pond, where many people come to feed the ducks. Overall its a great park, and has many amenities for everyone. read more

I used to come to this park all the time and ride my bike around it. Holy hell, what a great park centered around Alhambra. All around it is a good amount of suburban homes. So it meant that cars weren't going to plow you when you took your bike across the street. I've also spent a couple of 4th of July's here. It's a lot of legal firework shows so you don't have to piss away any money away on those blowing up thing. The park is actually very spacious for what you would expect it to be. There's basketball courts, tennis is also a fun activity to do here where you can actually get a court for yourself without too much of a wait. The amount of shade here isn't all that much. I guess it just depends on what part you are in it. But a the outer rim of it has more trees than the inside of the park. So coming for a picnic can be a bit of a issue on finding somewhere in the park to plant your butt. But over all, it can really be a nice sit down under the trees, even if they are close to the cars and just enjoy a book, some sodas or just people watching as they jog by. A great park all around. A def. spot to hit up if you're in Alhambra or you just got some Fosselman's icecream and want a cool spot to sit and enjoy it. read more

I can't run on treadmills anymore after my friends showed me this park. I used to love running at the gym; now I find it real boring and hard to run long distance on a treadmill. 2 laps around the park is a little over a mile. Parking can be tough during peak hours, but that shouldn't be an excuse to not get your in a run here. If you're into trees and squirrels, this is your park. I once tried to scare a squirrel out of my way. He actually gave ME the stare down and had me dart away! Always nice to see families walking the trail on summer evenings. Me and my family had been to this park for more than 12 years, I practically raised my kid here, and in these 12 years we never had any issues regarding our dog until now, these so called "employees" are telling us to not bring dogs to the park for they can bite people and poop all over the place, our dog is fully house trained and isn't the type of dog that would SHIT everywhere like what they assume. they also say that the dogs aren't suppose to go to the play area EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE LEASHED. So for anyone that owns a dog and are planning to go to this "park" know that these assholes are going to stop you and technically kick you out of there!! read more

I love it here for the same reasons everyone else loves it here - the padded jogging trail, the lakeside view w/fountain, and the endless mountain of grass making this easily one of the most popular parks within the San Gabriel Valley. It has many resources that can appeal to all age groups, leaving behind a deluge of visiting locals on a regular basis. Whether you're seeking pull-up bars for circuit training workouts or fancy watching a resting duck or two, you'll probably find it here. Imagine a park that has been affected by the zombie apocalypse, Almansor park perfectly fits that description. At night, this park is filled with walkers. It is nearly impossible to avoid a walker. The best way to get past a walker is to distract them with some noise and then run around them. Sometimes you'll encounter a large group of walkers along the path. In this case, you can use this opportunity to blend in and pretend to be a walker. During the day, Almansor park is a beautiful landscape consisting of grass, trees, a little lake, and nature's little minions that seem to attack you if you're holding food. The park is also an ideal place to have bbqs or picnics as they provide picnic tables and grills. If you're into sports, Almansor Park has basketball and tennis courts. Unlike other parks where they have dozens of spinning wheel stations, Almansor Park has a wide array of work out stations and none of it consisting of any rotating parts. And if you want to improve your mental and physical well being, then you can join the old Asian folks that are doing Tai Chi early in the mornings. This is definitely my go to park if i want to do anything cardio related. TIP: There are walkers every where...even in the parking lot read more

I love this park!!! Did most of my training for the LA Marathon here last year, Now that I moved out to Irvine, I don't come to Almansor as often =( Don't forget, follow the route..ONE entire around the park and the backway behind the basketball court equals one mile! Not just around the park on the lower level near the parking lot! This place is always clean. I love the little sections along the track where you can do crunches, stretches, squats, etc. It's usually pretty packed. Which is a good thing! I would say the only time it's pretty dead would be on Sundays during lunch time. Never really had any problems with other people. Except for one time back in April 2009...lol funny story... I accidently locked my keys in my trunk along w/ my cell phone and everything else! I had a guy offer to help out and his crazy girlfriend tried to fight me and ended up beating up her boyfriend pretty badly. Cops were called to the park =x So yeah, that was the only bad incident I had at Almansor park. I still love this park and I continue to run here on the weekends I come back home =) read more

I come here to get my (every other) daily jog / run in. Training for a 5k has to start somewhere right? I only run during the night times (around 8 or 9 PM), when the crowd has thinned out somewhat. Any earlier and you practically have to run right next to the track since there will be someone in front of you every 20 feet. There's pretty decent lighting around the 0.6 mile loop of the track, even up to 10 PM (the latest I've ran). A good amount of people are either running, jogging, or walking as well, you don't need to worry about safety. I find that whenever I see someone else jogging, I just HAVE TO catch up and pass them, I can't stop myself! It really tires me out haha. I do like the green turf they have around the track, it's pretty easy on the knees and other joints. I used to come here and play tennis every weekend when I was in high school, that was pretty fun. They have 3 courts, and the maintenance is pretty good even now. When I was a kid, I used to chase around the ducks quite a lot... heck, I was originally going to give this park 4 stars, but I'll give it 5 for nostalgic reasons now! read more

I only come here for jogging around their 8-loop, yet somehow, there's still so much going off in my head that needs to be said.. I'll try to only put down things people might find relevant. Not a morning person? They have lamps throughout the running trail that stay on late. I seriously can't remember until when or if I've ever been here late enough to see the lights go out. But at 9:30, you're still safe. According to one reviewer, it's AstroTurf, another reviewer says it's tartan, another says rubber; in any case, it's not too bouncy. It definitely beats running on concrete though. Good for your joints! :) Or if you want even softer cushioning, both sides of the running trail are grassy (sometimes muddy). Follow the trail and you won't get lost!! You can keep running circular loops, but if you want to do the 8-loop, you'll have to go off towards the lake and the basketball courts and the tai-chi masters. That side is less frequented by the old people taking strolls. Hold your breath!!!! as you approach the trash cans! People talk about the bathroom stinking, but unless I'm mistaking the bathrooms for huge trash bins, what you really need to beware is the trash. It comes right before the bathroom (if you're going clockwise), and really, you can't miss it. Even if you're blind, the stink will hit you pretty hard. Last, distance -- the large circular loop is just about 0.60 miles if you don't cheat and cut the trail. The full 8-loop is 0.95 miles according to my boyfriend's runkeeper. But I have my suspicions, and will correct this if it's actually inaccurate. Come see the rest for yourself! read more

EXCELLENT park for Pokemon Go! I came here yesterday not expecting much but the place was full of people playing Pokemon Go. Lots of people are into it in this area so there were lures going down constantly. Theres 1 gym I believe and lots of space to wander around and hatch your eggs. A snorlax appeared yesterday, not sure how many people caught it. read more

Recently a friend and I ran the track here on a Thursday evening. Was it packed like the last time I came? NOPE. Which means, NICE! I also liked that the loop has that track felt so it's easy on your joints. Also for those that like mini workout stations, you can find plenty of that around the park. This is the largest park in the 626. They have a gym, a winding track, 3 tennis courts, a baseball field, a facility, a pond and soccer courts. There is lots to do here. I set up a volleyball net on weekends to play with friends. There is lots of parking around the park and street parking but when there are games going, it gets packed. The lighting here is good. It is great to come here to watch fireworks on 4th of July. Parking gets hard. read more

Forgive me for being a non-Chinese descendant. When boyfriend and I just arrived at this location for a bbq, it felt like we were plopped in the middle of some kung-fu movie! Everywhere we looked, there were people jogging, stretching, feeding ducks, and doing some form of martial arts! Just like in the training centers from all my movies! These things DO exist! Enough of my ignorance to the world. This park is pretty neat. It's decently clean considering that there are a LOT of people who come here to get their work out on. I feel like the main attraction here (besides the food we had) was the pond. Lots and lots of turtles, geese, and guppies to be seen. Give your kid some bread and they'll have an experience they'll never forget. PS. watch your kids when they chase the geese. Those things are evil.... read more

Great park, but I'm making a review on the Independence Day Firework show last night that I found was one of the worse I've seen. I've been to several of Almansor's past firework shows which did not disappoint. However, for the past few Independence Days, I've been going to the bridge near the Pasadena Rose Bowl and have watched some of the best fireworks shows. Last night, we decided to save the trip and head for Almansor to watch the fireworks show there. We were disappointed. The show started well, but slowed and lingered to a bore and, ultimately, lead to an extremely short and lame finale. The half hour show should've been shortened to 15 minutes, which would've probably be more impressive. Instead, for at least half of the show the fireworks were being shot just about ONE at a time with a 5 to 10 second delay between. You could literally hear how unimpressed the crowd was with the lack of oohs and awes. I recall past Almansor shows people were much more awe-inspired. Even the Rose Bowl shows people were oohing and awing every few seconds. Another thing that did not help, the loud music playing that took away from the (lack of) booms and crackles of the exploding fireworks. Fireworks should be enjoyed in silence where you can hear the explosions. The playlist was also cheesy. I do like the songs, but all the tracks pretty much shoved lyrics about America in your ears. Which I have no problem, but felt uncomfortable when the park is filled with people from different ethnicities. The best part of every fireworks show has got to be the finales....right? They literally fire everything they got at the last few minutes with just an endless amount of explosions in short bursts for jaw-dropping moments. Not for this show. While the slow explosions, with the dreadful delays in between, leading to the end, I was psyched and in hopes for a great finale (thinking that it was what they were saving for). The moment came and there were 2-3 of those (somewhat) exciting bursts, then, a few more slow ones, and then....silence. And that was the finale. The show was in reverse. The beginning of the show was its best, then slowed to a crawl. As we were leaving the park, the disappointment deepened. In the distance, you could see the other firework shows nearby, and they looked much more exciting. Finale or not, they still had more explosions (even flashier looking) than what Almansor's finale was. I shouldn't be complaining for a free show, but I felt the need to express my disappointment in hopes that Almansor would bring back the much more exciting shows it used to have. If I would've known it was going to be such a dud, I'd be running for the Colorado bridge for the Rose Bowl show instead. It's not that far away and it's just sooo much more worth it. I don't think I'll be coming back to Almansor for the fireworks show for a while. However, I will continue coming back for its great park. read more

Not gonna lie, this park is pretty cool. There's always a lot of people here. They have a track, some random grass space, tables, jungle gym, swings, DUCKS! and I believe there is a country club there also for those golfers out there. Lot of parking, but if it's full I believe you can park on the street in front of those houses across the street. Very good place to bring a date, at night, where you can sit on a bench and just watch the giant fountain... LOVE this place ! Probably my favorite park right now. read more

Great place to run and train. Plenty of space to workout. Can run (pun indeed intended) into ride ppl. But what do you expect its a public park. Duck, goose, fowl, pigeon, human, dog crap (poo poo) can and will find its way onto the bottom of your shoes if you decide to run on grass. Runner run track is new, replaced again which is nice. 1.03miles if you run the figure 8 which is nice for training. Has several workout stops among the lap if you choose to partake. read more

Review for the golf driving range. I've been coming here lately only because my buddy likes to come here. Otherwise it's somewhat out of my way. The driving range has three decks. Top deck being irons only, they don't want you to drive the ball over the fences and possibly knocking some poor fool out. Anytime after 5pm, the range prices is supposedly lowered. It's about standard for a large bucket (about 100 balls) which is $9. That's about right. The machine accepts exact cash only or you can also use your debit card. I've dealt with both and the transaction were both smooth. There's a tiny shop which is about the size of a portal potty. The guy in there can give you change for the machine, change your grips on your clubs for about $8 a club, and handle any other inquiries. Like most places, you can rent/buy the plastic tees for $1. You should just buy one, the size you prefer and always carry it with you whenever you go to the range because these days they don't offer tees for free. Back in the hay days tees were all over the place, populating driving ranges like horny rabbits. These days, I guess ranges are economically drained and also people keep jacking these tees. There's a decent putting green with a nasty slope for practicing your putting. Also, I believe they have two chipping greens. Everything you need to perfect the most important part of golf, the short game. They have a golf course here too but I have yet to try it out. In general, it's a nice all around facility. So when your pretty lady wants to go for a jog but you rather work on your swing, you can go to Almansor and she can go be Forrest Gump while you pretend you're Mr. Woods. read more

I have to give this place 5 stars for the sheer nostalgia it gives me... Many years ago when I was but a child... I went to the school right next to this park... and we would run our miles here... I will never forget the day they goose chased me around the track and helped me run my fastest mile... As a little one we used to laugh at all the old(er) Asian people doing Tai Chi in the park... ha ha... funny Asian people... silly things they do... Now that I'm older and in my *cough* teens... This park is within walking distance from my apartment. I usually come in the mornings to get a basketball workout in. At night it can get really crowded so I prefer the mornings. People really need to respect the rules here such as no smoking, no dogs, and no feeding the wildlife. Especially if you are bringing your dog, how can you not pick up after them? That's like letting your kid make a mess in a store and leaving it there. Pet peeve of mine. Lately I've been seeing so much feces on the grass area that I stopped going to lay down in the shade under the big trees. I think most of it is from the ducks though, so please stop feeding them everybody! The city hires workers but there is nobody picking it up?!? The park is kind of gross to me now, I see smeared feces even on the track area. =( read more

I been going to Almansor Park since the 80s when I was a lower case G growing up in Alhambra. It hasnt changed too much since then. Now let me tell you the good, the bad and the ugly of Almansor Park. First the Good - The Track is great, its paved and its a mile and when you run it you get to past by the lake which has all these pretty cool duckies - canadian geese and such (though my friend Joanne thinks they are smelly, shes jealous i think). You also past by the Bball courts and the Ralph Kiner Statue. The Park is also spacious so you can picnic and play football, kickball etc... The Bad - The Basketball Courts at Almansor, whoever designed these monstrosities never played a game of basketball, there is no seperation between the 6 halfcourt courts, thus leading many times to interuptions in games and such and there is no definite out of bounds, the surface at times can also be slippery. I wish they would just create two full courts and get rid of the half courts. The tennis courts are always crowded and there seems to be classes taking care of them. The Ugly - Even today when I went to play Bball (thats slang for basketball), I saw a fight almost broke out with some wannabe gangbangers. It seems these courts attract the wrong crowd and with the small courts, tempers flare, Ive seen too many fights here. When you walk/run the track some of the peeps arent polite and wont get out of your way and will bump you without saying sorry, bad manners. The bathrooms as I recall are horendous and at night dont seem to be open :( read more

Almansor park is my all time favorite . Why? Because I lived locally for the past five years. It's great for runners. The trail is simply a circle 8 they call it. Two of these laps are about a mile more or less. Tonight was soooo refreshing running against the cool winds. Come during the day for a good tan. At prime time from 6-8pm and mornings 6am-8am, seems as if the whole world decided to take a walk all together. Parking will be packed. But it's motivating to run when there's more people:) There are also duck ponds and in the mornings all the gooses / giant birds walk around on the trails too. Super cute but not when they slow you down on your run hah. Overall, awesome park and kept clean. read more

My neighborhood park. Used to run here all the time. Got tired of the crowds and running around people. I like to be in my zen zone when logging in the miles. Cannot do that here with all the walkers. Now I just map out runs using small side streets. SO MUCH BETTER. Playground newly renovated 2013 but on the smaller side. Lake and ducks make it stand out from other parks but gets old fast as you realize you are stepping all over their poop. Ew. read more

The park is nice and for the most part neat, but not clean, the ducks pretty much took over the area where the benches are provided so there is crap everywhere. We headed for higher ground and we were at the upper deck area by the water fall eating, cigaret smoking was taking place and we had to ask a smoker to move. My recommendation is to have a park monitor or two walking the grounds making sure that everyone is following the rules. If you cannot afford this then charge $1 per hour parking and you can have a CSO or two patrolling on foot the grounds to ensure that everyone is following the rules, this will also ensure that you can rid the park of those guys who are just sitting in their parked cars for hours at a time staring at everyone as they walk by. This park can be nice again, just needs a little help! read more

Huge park! I came by here one day to explore the different parks in the area, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! I didn't expect this park to be so spacious! At first I thought the park was just the playground and the soccer field, but after 2 laps around the field, I realized there was a second part to it! There's a huge pond, and a gazebo, AND basketball courts!? Alhambra's doing it right haha. (Also - Anyone know what those weird birds are called? The black small yet also thic birds with the white beaks? I stared at one for a little too long trying to figure out what it was lol.) Anyways, the park was full of people doing their recreational things - kids on the playground, family playing badminton (or at least trying to), older generations doing tai chi, basketball court full of people, old couples that came to the park just to feed the wildlife (LOL), and young kids in love and sitting under a tree. This place felt so happy and welcoming, and nostalgic for me - it reminded me of the parks in my childhood when I lived in Northern California. The park (at least from what I saw) was clean and well kept. The grass was very lush and green, and the trees were big and tall! If you need a nature fix, I would suggest coming here! Not sure sure on the status of the bathrooms though since I haven't used them. The track was not too busy when I got there at around 3/3:30, but started to get packed at around 5 ish. At least I felt safe walking on the track even though it was dark out. This is definitely my go to park now. read more

Pretty awesome little place. You know, I thought the green track was going to be cheesy, but its really really useful. There is this paved, rubberized green track around the park that figures 8 and is approximately one mile. That's perfect because unless you had a nike+, its a great way to know your pace time, perfect if you're training for a race. Oh, and the rubberized surface is also heaven sent for your knees, as there is more cushion. There are also fitness spots around the track; you can do pull-ups, sit-ups, or leg lifts there. Otherwise, the atmosphere is always lively as it is indeed an active park; there could be soccer, softball, jungle gym playing, tennis, dancing, basketball, or duck chasing at any one time. Speaking of which, the giant lake and the accompanying wildlife could make for a cool spot to chill out. I'm lucky my training group runs here or otherwise I would never have gone this plucky little park. read more

Almansor Park. A very nostalgic place for me. One side of this park shared fences with our little Christian elementary private school. For Phys. Ed. (PE, boo!!) we ran our miles out at good ol' Almansor. A very dear friend of mine (whose initials are J.J.) was without a doubt the class clown of our group- from grade two all the way to grade six. So naturally, when someone dared him to chase a one of the geese at the pond, he did. And inevitably got bitten right on the butt. Almansor Park - Squirrels will eat off your hand!!! - Parks Near Me - Alhambra, California

It's the biggest park in Alhambra. I come to run on the track and during the summers, a little flag football action on the lush green grass. Lots of open space with some interesting wildlife as welll (mostly ducks and squirrels). Overall, it's one of the nicer parks in the SVG. What keeps it from a five-star rating are the basketball courts. They're neither full nor half. More like quarter courts. It's tight - there's no way to avoid spilling over to another court during a game. And there's always a large crowd. It's not perfect, but the other amenities do a decent job of filling the gap. read more

This is a more 'active' park. If you want to come here to do sports or take your kids to the playground, this is a great park. It has loads of fields to play sports. But if you're looking for a quiet place to take a stroll, then this park is too congested and crowded. My pick is Alhambra Park. read more

Run...run...run as fast as you can... This has to be one of the nicer parks in Alhambra area. Whats not to like? Got a small lake and animals roaming around freely. Kind of brings you at one with nature. I actually love coming here for a good run. Gives you a nice scenic route to take instead of the standard mundane feel that you would get running around a school track. Probably one of the best things is that it has a soft track so it'll be a lot easier on the knees than running on pure concrete which takes it toll on you after awhile. Also, one full lap around the track is 1 mile instead of the standard 4x around a regular track. Running 3 laps at the park vs 12x on regular track just mentally makes it seem more possible to complete. Yes, I play mind tricks on myself to help me exercise. =P Aside from the awesome track, the park offers a lot of other outdoor sports activities. They have a fitness circuit around the entire track, several half basketball courts, baseball field, and during summers they have open gym. Definitely a great park to go to for exercising and just being outdoors. Very peaceful. read more
