This Aloft is a bit of a lifesaver if you come to town hoping to stay in an area where you can walk to things like coffee shops, smoothie shops and restaurants (even some clothing and gift shops). Reception staff is extremely welcoming, even when you come down in the morning to go about your day. It's kind of nice. They give you water and a box of snacks at check-in. If you've stayed at an Aloft before, you know the rooms are basic, but comfortable and no exceptions here. Great bed/linens, Dry Bar products (wish the soap dispensers weren't so high in the showers. Some of us are under 5'5") The gym is fine, albeit tiny with 2 treads, 1 elliptical and 1 stationery bike and 1 bench with a set of weights. Luckily no one was ever in it when I was working out. They also have an indoor pool, which is a nice touch. Next time I'll bring a bathing suit. One thing, the sign in the room notes it's a noon check out. I had an annoyed housekeeper knock on my door at 11:45 reminding me check out was 11 and that they told me this at check-in. No, they did not. Also, I am Bonvoy Gold and typically they offer me a later check-out. The hotel didn't seem especially full during my stay. I just don't love feeling like I was taking advantage of any situation. It's as simple as changing the sign in the room. The previous times I reserved hotels in Birmingham, I was in really not great areas where you couldn't even walk to get a cup of coffee. Homewood is the area in which to stay and I'll definitely stay here again. read more

Good location pretty central for most things. They have a pay parking garage available but also plenty of free parking on the street in front of the hotel. The staff is friendly. The rooms are spacious with very comfortable beds. The only complaint is the door to the bathroom is a very cumbersome & awkward to close/open pocket door. read more

I stayed at this hotel for two nights (April 21-22, 2025) and had one of the worst experiences I've ever had at any hotel--both in terms of room condition and customer service. Room 529 was in horrible condition. The shower ceiling was ripped and caving in, covered with mold and mildew. The wall panel near the bathroom sink was cracked. The sink was dirty, and there was hair on the towels, in the fridge, and in the shower. This level of filth is absolutely unacceptable, especially from a hotel under the Aloft brand. I reported all of this to a staff member named Elizabeth on the morning of Tuesday, April 22. Instead of offering help, she cut me off and said, "I remember you, you've been here before," then, "You always have a problem with the room," and finally, "Why do you stay here?" That level of rudeness and unprofessionalism was shocking. Elizabeth said I'd be moved to another room later that day. But when I returned that evening, the front desk said no message had been left, and no room was available. I had to stay in the same disgusting room, and my towels hadn't even been replenished. Later that night, I called the front desk and the woman who answered didn't even identify herself. She just said, "Who is this and where are you?" When I gave my name and room number, she hung up on me. Completely unacceptable. I also left a voicemail for the General Manager, Robert Giere, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, and followed up by calling again on Thursday, April 24. The front desk told me they would let him know I had called, but I received no response. Still nothing. This whole experience was disgraceful. From the filthy room to the appalling way I was treated, I'm honestly questioning why I've ever stayed at this property. I expect a serious follow-up and compensation for this mess. I travel to Birmingham frequently for work--but I will not be staying here again. read more

Great hotel, fantastic staff! Have stayed here twice now; first visit was about five years ago. The staff here is truly amazing; extremely friendly and they really go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The location is great, as it's within walking distance to the cool downtown Homewood shopping area as well as some great places to eat (Big Bad Breakfast -- literally right across the street -- is definitely worth checking out), and if that's not enough, you are only a short drive from everything else. All that said, this is definitely an older Aloft, and it's starting to show its age just a bit. Don't get me wrong, it seems pretty obvious that the crew here is doing a great job keeping this place as nice as they can, but there are some things here and there that could use a bit of sprucing up. Nothing major, however, and really nothing that took away from being comfortable or enjoying the stay. Honestly that's really the only thing keeping me from rating this place five stars, and I even feel a bit guilty doing that, as the staff alone here is worthy of a five star review. read more

The rooms seriously need upgrading/remodeling. The carpet is dirty, the sliding door to the bathroom does not slide properly, the walls had paint chipping, the air conditioning is noisy and the room felt very humid. Aloft hotels are one of those sweet spots in the chain of Marriott hotels where there is actually something fairly new and at the same time, the price is not exorbitant. From business travel days, Aloft was my go to when 4+ star hotels were unavailable or inconvenient. This particular property opened in 2009, making it one of the older Alofts in the bunch and it does not seem like it has changed much since. The televisions, with their insanely long times to switch a channel and lack of any streaming connectivity are a prime example. The first impression of the hotel was an absolutely filthy connected parking garage for Aloft guests, where trash was scattered everywhere. Even after informing the front desk about that, nothing got done. Upon an easy checkin, with no upgrade or breakfast provided with Titanium status, it is time for one of those extra slow Otis elevators. It is not a joke that in many high rises, an elevator can cover 30 floors in the time that this one makes it though five. Next, was the continuation of less than pleasant experiences. The paper coffee cup in the room was dirty and not replaced after the last guest. To put the cherry on top, I took it down to the front desk and showed them, highlighting that it's not just the parking garage that's dirty. They did apologize and were kind even though it wasn't those girls' fault, but did not offer anything in points or otherwise to compensate for the issue at hand. That cemented the level of customer service that this Aloft provides. Other aspects of the stay were fine and uneventful. The best thing about this Aloft is it's location, with plenty awesome restaurants close by within walking distance. read more

I stayed at Aloft Birmingham for 2 nights early May 2023 and it was an exceptional experience. There's a modern refreshing vibe throughout the lobby and rooms, both of which were were very clean and well appropriated. The area is also outstanding with great restaurants and small shops within walking distance. Most noteworthy though was the helpful staff and management who went out of their way to help me get to my event on time. You guys rock! read more

I had never heard of this place until searching online recently. It is geared towards the more modern, trendy hotel goer. King sized bed is a MUST. I do wish they'd let the AC go a little lower for those of us who love the cold! Showers have soap and shampoo dispensers, not the small bottles most hotels have. There is a small parking lot underneath, but you may not get parking there. The front desk staff we dealt with were friendly. We loved the room, but we had a bad experience with housekeeping which ruined part of our stay. Even though our checkout wasn't until 12, they decided to bang on our door early in the morning, waking us up. They kept knocking, even though I called out that to hold on a moment. I got up to answer the door, and then they tried to barge into the room, though the door lock prevented them from getting in. They quickly retreated when I made it to the door, and apologized profusely. We called the front desk and complained, and said they would speak with the cleaning crew. Other than this experience, the hotel stay here was nice. I'd give other Aloft hotels a chance. read more

The best thing about the Aloft is the very friendly, and accommodating staff. The lounge area is very nice. The AC is okay. The coffee pot had to be switched out for one that worked. Sluggish drain; the telephone did not work, so why was it even there. There is a small breakfast area with some food like eggs , cereal, fruit. Somethings are not free, but they are not labeled. One day the bagels and cereal were free. The next day we were told to stop at the desk to have it charged to our room. Not all of the floor lights in the hallway are functional. The bathroom sliding door is too heavy to pull closed. I won't stay here again. read more

We stayed for a few nights while doing some hiking in the area. We had our two dogs with us. The hotel was very welcoming of the dogs and made sure we were all comfortable during our stay. Everyone at the front desk was super friendly and helpful. There are lots of places within walking distance of the hotel - coffee shops, breakfast spots, mom & pop shops. It was a great neighborhood. Parking was easy. They did a great job with COVID protocols. I had no concerns. I would definitely stay here again if I were in the area. read more

Why 5 stars? Because I've never been to an Aloft that wasn't worthy of 5-stars. --- --- --- There isn't much of a difference in this Aloft, compared to any other that I've stayed in, and that's a good thing. If I could custom design a hotel, it would look just like an Aloft: modern, simple and affordable. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are lovely and they're always located in the center of the city. Seriously, what more could you ask for? I wouldn't change a thing. This particular location has free parking, as well. There are quite a few covered spots, and plenty of over-flow above that's not covered. The lobby follows the same modern and simple design of the rooms. While local Yelp celebrity, Will B, hates it when I'm late to things, he apparently didn't mind making me wait an inordinate amount of time to be picked up, which resulted in me getting to know this lobby quite well. There are certainly worse places to wait on a very un-punctual chauffeur. I usually like to stay at new hotels when I'm visiting a city, but it will be tough for me to stay elsewhere on my next trip to BHam! read more

The Aloft Front Office Manager, Ian Chwatuk, and the Chief Engineer, Quane Williams, really helped us out during our stay. Ian went above and beyond to help us reserve an additional night's stay when the hotel's reservation system indicated all rooms were sold out. He spent a good deal of time working on getting us a room even after I had given up and thought we would have to move to another hotel. Instead, Ian called our room later to say that we could stay the additional night and also that we wouldn't even have to move to another room. In addition to their super helpful staff, our room was extremely comfortable. Aloft is in a great area and convenient to everything. The best part is that it's dog friendly, so we brought our two dogs. I like that Aloft does not charge extra for dogs. Also there's delicious free coffee in the lobby! There's a great gym as well. We enjoyed drinks in the lobby bar. I highly recommend this hotel. read more

4.5 stars Decided to continue my streak of visiting Aloft Hotels across the country.......seriously though, you really can't go wrong with Aloft. They are always centrally located and are a good value for the money. On my cabride to the hotel from the airport (about 10-15 min), my cab driver even raved about the hotel and said it was in a really nice area (Homewood- suburb of Birmingham) . So I definitely had high hopes. For the most part, my friend and I were pretty pleased with our stay. I arrived at the hotel around noon or so on a Friday. Checkin is around 2pm but they had a room available so I could check in and unpack. I really loved that I didn't have to wait and store my luggage in some closet . One side of the hotel faces the Homewood Police Dept and down the street is the City Hall for Homewood. Not to mention the shops and restaurants in the area that are within walking distance. Our room had 2 double beds and lots of space to hang clothing and spread out our luggage. The bathroom seemed roomier compared to other Aloft hotels I have stayed at. There is a walk in shower and toilet with a sliding door separating from the mirror/sink area. Bliss beauty products are provided and I like that they have a self dispenser for shampoo and body wash instead of little bottles that will end up being tossed after each guest checks out. They also offer a $5 card(for use in their snack bar)/per night if you choose to opt out of having sheets and towels changed. I like that the hotel rewards you for being "green". The lobby was pretty busy throughout the entire long weekend we were staying. On one day, there was a company holiday party in the lobby and on another, it looked like a wedding reception. The only 2 annoyances of our visit were the fire alarm going off so loudly and not really getting an explanation until we asked the front desk (a grease fire occurred at the restaurant next door). Talk about ear curdling. Also, they offer free wireless but it was spotty at the beginning of our trip. It did work towards the end. But definitely a royal pain if you are coming here for business. For most of our visit, we dealt with Dion at the front desk. He was very friendly and pleasant. On our check out date, I asked if we could have a later checkout than the standard of 12noon since my flight was leaving late. He was able to extend it until 230pm and then offered to extend another 30 minutes if I needed. I hope you give him praise for his excellent customer service because he truly deserves it. As far as the Birmingham area, I would stay here again. There is lots to do within walking distance but if you want to venture out on occasion, I would recommend renting a car. I had to go to Birmingham for work for a few days and chose this hotel since it was fairly close to my clients office. The hotel is also in a good spot for getting to the downtown area of Birmingham easily. I don't think the advantages of the hotel warrants the cost of the rooms however. Pros: Location: it's a 5-10 minute Uber ride to the downtown spot for good restaurants and pretty relaxed bars. It was a 5 minute ride to my clients off which was the main attraction. Really nice staff. Everyone I interacted with was polite and friendly. The gym. There was a good amount of machine options (treadmill, ellipticals, several bikes and free weights) for you to choose from. It's smaller, but it gets the job done. Restaurant called Michael's right next door. The food was great. I got in late and ordered a steak salad to go and it was ready within 10 minutes. Staff was polite and friendly. The Pastry Art Bake Shop was a happy find as well which is right next door to the hotel too. Had great treats to grab for the client meetings making it very convenient. Cons: Not a lot of options within the hotel itself for food if you get there late and don't want to go out. There is a cafe that only makes quick breakfast items (no lunch or dinner options) and a small shop of snacks, but nothing extensive. There is no room service at all. This is for taller people: the counters in the rooms are LOW. To the point I was hunching over to brush my teeth. I'm 5'10 and it came to mid-thigh on me. The ironing board was the exact same and I was hunching over to iron too which was annoying to say the least. Beds aren't that comfortable. I got to pick from two beds since the room had two queen beds, but neither were super comfy. Very loud AC/heater that couldn't make up its mind if it wanted to be on or off. I was there during a week it was unusually cold and it got down to about 22-25 at night so I kicked on the heater just to take the chill out of the room. Set it at 68 and it would kick on...be on for 5 minutes and turn off. 5 minutes later...same routine. I ended up putting the room at 72 for half an hour and then turned it off entirely. The convenience of the location definitely made it the reason I stayed there (oh right...and because I'd never been to Birmingham before) and the food places around are good. But I'm sure I'll find another place to stay next time I go see my clients. read more

The W's little sister seems to be popping up all over the country. While Aloft is part of the W (or actually Starwood) don't expect the same posh atmosphere. This little sister is still in college....hence the hostel like vibe of this hotel. Overall, it's a fine place to stay. It's comfortable, the staff is super friendly and seems to remember every guest (nice Southern hospitality) and it's a great location where you can easily walk to a bunch of restaurants, retail shops, coffee, etc. And if you don't have time for a quick walk you can always fill up on snacks/drinks at the re-charge center in the lobby. They need to turn the air up. Whether I was in the lobby or in my room I was absolutely freezing, which was unexpected in May. I was also greeted by a guy with a bug extinguisher seconds after entering my room, which made me a bit paranoid that I was sleeping among insect friends. And I found the housekeeper on my floor to be a bit of a mess herself. Her cart was messier than most teenager's room, which made me worry about the cleanliness of my room. But I guess it's all part of the "college" experience here. If I was vacationing in Birmingham this wouldn't be my first choice, but certainly a convenient option if I were to go back for a quick work trip. read more

This hotel was not what I was expecting. First, they charge an "arm and a leg" for a room but do not be fooled. The swimming pool is "under construction". I deduct major points for this because I would have stayed at a cheaper hotel for access to a pool in the middle of summer time and extreme summer heat. This was a leisure trip for me and my partner and I couldn't even enjoy the pool but we had to pay full price for a mediocre room at best. I am highly disappointed with this hotel. I will never ever stay at another Aloft hotel. Ms. Donna in House Keeping was the only reason I ranked this property so high. Should be called Adump instead of aloft. On the plus side the beds are very comfortable and the people working here are very nice. My room and many others all smell like the inside of a 30 year camper that's been left outside uncovered in the elements it's entire life. If you aren't familiar with that smell I'll tell you. It's not good- think old mildew smell. Hotel has the bare minimum in amenities. Shower is gross with dispensers stuck on the wall with soap and shampoo. Neither of which dispensed anything. I cannot say thank you enough to the remarkable staff at this Aloft. We were part of the Florida evacuation last week and had a hard time finding a place with our 90 lb. golden retriever. They welcomed us with open arms and huge smiles. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and appreciated everything they did to go above and beyond to make us feel at home, including a spaghetti dinner for all Florida evacuees. The location is great, but the hotel needs some remodeling. We have stayed there several times because it the location in Homewood to be able to walk to restaurants and shopping is excellent. It is well lit. However, the last time we stayed the tv wouldn't turn off. At 10:00 I told the front desk. They said they had updated their cable and would need to call the cable company and have it reset. It would take 15 minutes after they called. I went back down a little before 11:00. The girl at the desk huffily said, " I just got off the phone with the cable company about five minutes ago and it will take about 25 minutes to reset!" I patiently went back to my room and waited for 30 minutes before going back down. At that time I asked for a free night. They told me they couldn't do that without a manager, but could give us some points! They then sent someone up to our room to unplug the tv. I eventually wound up finding the plug and unplugging it. (The guys hands were too big!). Our tv was never fixed during our weekend stay. For what you pay they could offer a little more, but it is a great location! read more

I am an Aloft customer for life! How else can I repay the staff of the Birmingham Aloft Hotel who showed such kindness and compassion to my family during a rough couple of days? We traveled to Birmingham for my surgery, and while I was under anesthesia my wife got sick. She arranged for us to stay at the Aloft hotel while we both recovered, and because of the situation the staff let us check in very early to the first room they had available. We asked for a crib to be brought up for our young daughter, but all of us ended up napping by the time it came up. When I awoke and went downstairs to pick up the crib, the staff apologized profusely and offered to buy me dinner (even though I explained it was my fault not there's). The next morning they gave us free breakfast as well and wished for our speedy recovery. The classiness and genuine hospitality the staff showed throughout our stay was downright beautiful. Policies exist for a reason but when someone is having a bad day, bending them for humanity's sake can make all the difference -- the people at Aloft get that. All that combined with the great atmosphere, comfortable and clean rooms, and contemporary decor makes this the best hotel in Birmingham. Overall I think this is a 3.5/5. My fiancée and I came to the aloft bar for a wedding after party. This review is based on the bar and reception area only. We did not stay at the hotel. The aloft is a nice hotel in Homewood area it has a contemporary vibe. There was ample seating both indoor and outdoor. Seating is comfortable and incites you to sit for a few hours. There was a small pint of food set up in an orderly fashion . I'm not sure if the food came from the hotel or outside catering but I thought it was very good. Went back for seconds. Staff were very friendly, professional and helpful. I thought the bar staff were one to few to keep up with the orders. I would have thought if they knew about the function they should have anticipated the crowd. I also thought the price point was too high and they should consider making discounts for large groups on maybe a couple I'm domestics and wines. read more

There's definitely something about this hotel that makes you feel like you're in a glorified, tech-forward hostel or a brand new college campus rec room/dorm. I don't say this all-together dismissively either, there's a lot of trendy leanings in this hotel and for a town that doesn't boast stays at the W or Ace, this one will surely do! The lobby area offers nearly everything you might seek as a traveler: bar with all the necessary trimmings (minus the happy hour), a recharge station where you can grab snacks of all sorts and even a lean cuisine should your late-night cram session go long (again, dorm-like). There's plenty of area to meet with others, so if you're heading into town for meetings and need a hotel amenable to professional rendezvous, this one's a winner. Nearby, there's a number of local retailers and eateries that you can very very easily walk to. Zoe's is a stone's throw, O'Henry's Coffee around the corner, Urban Cookhouse also nearby and a slew of other spots to spend some dough. As for the room, it was large, the bed was comfy, shower very chic and the TV very flat. Everything checked out except for the seemingly paper thin walls. I'd definitely stay here again and the neighborhood is quite safe and convenient for those without a car. read more

What a cool hotel. I'm not super familiar with Birmingham, and I was only in town one night, but I had the pleasure of staying at the sassy, modern Aloft Hotel. First, it's pretty darn easy to get to - especially from Atlanta. Take 20 West, and head straight on til morning, basically. When you get to Birmingham, you make like two turns off 20 and you're there. The absolute coolest thing about this place is that they allow pets. Not only are they pet friendly, but they don't charge you a thing for bringing your furry friend with you (if your pup is over 50lbs, I believe there is a waiver.. but still no charge. Mine is 35lbs so I didn't have to deal with the form). Wait, there's more.. they even offer a little bed and treats if you ask. I don't know many other, if any, hotels that are so nice.. I totally got lucky because I didn't even make these reservations for myself. After my local event (the reason I was in town, which was located conveniently on the same block at Pinches Tacos) we wanted to get another drink.. There's a small bar in the lobby of Aloft called Wxyz.. and I was able to bring my dog down into the lobby to hang out while we sipped our cocktails. You can't sit AT the bar with an animal, but like five feet away there are these really nice couches and coffee tables that work just fine :) Though the bartender even apologized that I couldn't sit at the bar, I was happier the way it worked out anyway! Another nice change from most of the hotels I've ever been in, is that Aloft provides a couple free bottles of water for you in your room. It's nothing fancy, but it's free bottled water - who does that?! I didn't try EVERYTHING this place had to offer.. so I don't have the full scoop. However, the layout of the room was interesting - I liked it. The bed was super comfy (though I tend to like hotel beds 99% of the time) and overall, it's a cool, boutiquey, friendly place.
