Excellent! Great hotel in a great location. The building is well done and appointed (although the gym could use some more lifting equipment). The staff was pretty friendly. It's easy in and easy out to the parking lot. The room was comfortable and quiet. I'd choose this hotel again if in the Birmingham area.

Shower with ceiling damage and mold.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights (April 21-22, 2025) and had one of the worst experiences I've ever had at any hotel--both in terms of room condition and customer service. Room 529 was in horrible condition. The shower ceiling was ripped and caving in, covered with mold and mildew. The wall panel near the bathroom sink was cracked. The sink was dirty, and there was hair on the towels, in the fridge, and in the shower. This level of filth is absolutely unacceptable, especially from a hotel under the Aloft brand. I reported all of this to a staff member named Elizabeth on the morning of Tuesday, April 22. Instead of offering help, she cut me off and said, "I remember you, you've been here before," then, "You always have a problem with the room," and finally, "Why do you stay here?" That level of rudeness and unprofessionalism was shocking. Elizabeth said I'd be moved to another room later that day. But when I returned that evening, the front desk said no message had been left, and no room was available. I had to stay in the same disgusting room, and my towels hadn't even been replenished. Later that night, I called the front desk and the woman who answered didn't even identify herself. She just said, "Who is this and where are you?" When I gave my name and room number, she hung up on me. Completely unacceptable. I also left a voicemail for the General Manager, Robert Giere, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, and followed up by calling again on Thursday, April 24. The front desk told me they would let him know I had called, but I received no response. Still nothing. This whole experience was disgraceful. From the filthy room to the appalling way I was treated, I'm honestly questioning why I've ever stayed at this property. I expect a serious follow-up and compensation for this mess. I travel to Birmingham frequently for work--but I will not be staying here again.

Great hotel, fantastic staff! Have stayed here twice now; first visit was about five years ago. The staff here is truly amazing; extremely friendly and they really go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The location is great, as it's within walking distance to the cool downtown Homewood shopping area as well as some great places to eat (Big Bad Breakfast -- literally right across the street -- is definitely worth checking out), and if that's not enough, you are only a short drive from everything else. All that said, this is definitely an older Aloft, and it's starting to show its age just a bit. Don't get me wrong, it seems pretty obvious that the crew here is doing a great job keeping this place as nice as they can, but there are some things here and there that could use a bit of sprucing up. Nothing major, however, and really nothing that took away from being comfortable or enjoying the stay. Honestly that's really the only thing keeping me from rating this place five stars, and I even feel a bit guilty doing that, as the staff alone here is worthy of a five star review.

I stayed at Aloft Birmingham for 2 nights early May 2023 and it was an exceptional experience. There's a modern refreshing vibe throughout the lobby and rooms, both of which were were very clean and well appropriated. The area is also outstanding with great restaurants and small shops within walking distance. Most noteworthy though was the helpful staff and management who went out of their way to help me get to my event on time. You guys rock!

I had never heard of this place until searching online recently. It is geared towards the more modern, trendy hotel goer. King sized bed is a MUST. I do wish they'd let the AC go a little lower for those of us who love the cold! Showers have soap and shampoo dispensers, not the small bottles most hotels have. There is a small parking lot underneath, but you may not get parking there. The front desk staff we dealt with were friendly. We loved the room, but we had a bad experience with housekeeping which ruined part of our stay. Even though our checkout wasn't until 12, they decided to bang on our door early in the morning, waking us up. They kept knocking, even though I called out that to hold on a moment. I got up to answer the door, and then they tried to barge into the room, though the door lock prevented them from getting in. They quickly retreated when I made it to the door, and apologized profusely. We called the front desk and complained, and said they would speak with the cleaning crew. Other than this experience, the hotel stay here was nice. I'd give other Aloft hotels a chance.

The breakfast items were plentiful which are served from 7-10am. The beds were a little uncomfortable as if someone has been sitting and weighing down on one side. I had a medical procedure scheduled at UAB. My husband didn't want me driving home by myself the next day so he came down to Birmingham with me. We were a little early so went straight to the hotel to get him checked in. Besides a little language barrier with the front desk clerk, check in was uneventful. We proceeded to his room. Even before we crossed the threshold, the smell of what we thought was bleach hit us square in the face. We thought maybe housekeeping spilled bleach while cleaning the bathroom. Upon further inspection, we realized that the smell was coming from the bedroom area. It was absolutely overwhelming. Almost immediately I developed a headache and my asthma started to act up. I had to leave the room. We went to the front desk and spoke with a different employee, my husband telling her that he couldn't stay in that room - the smell made the room uninhabitable. She said that the hotel was full and there was nothing she could do. She did come down to the room with us to see (smell) what the problem was. Upon entering the room, she immediately knew what it was - the room was recarpeted the day before and it was the off-gassing of the carpet and glue that was causing the odor. We all went back to the front desk where she reiterated that there were no other rooms available and there was nothing she could do. There must have been something going on in BHM this weekend - I had a hard time even finding a room at all. My husband had no option but to stay in this room. We moved his bag in then proceeded to the hospital. I got checked in and got settled in my room all the while with my head feeling like it was about to split in two. I asked the doctor for some Tylenol and told her why I had a headache. She immediately said that my husband absolutely should not stay in that room - the gasses being given off by the glue were hazardous to his health. We told her that there were no rooms available in BHM for the evening. Dr P always goes above and beyond, that's why I like her so much. Once again, she just blew me away with her kindness when she offered my husband a recliner so he could spend the night in my room. Because there was a little delay in getting my test started, my husband took the opportunity to go back to the hotel to check out. Upon telling the front desk clerk that he was checking out, he was told that he wasn't able to until morning. He emphasized that the room was uninhabitable but that fell on deaf ears - she repeated that she was full and couldn't (wouldn't) accommodate him. He asked for the manager and was told that they wouldn't be in until Monday. There was no one at the hotel who could even make a higher level decision. He knew he couldn't and wouldn't stay in that room so he grabbed his bag and left. The clerk wouldn't even give him a receipt. She said he could get it in the morning. We lost $225 on a room that was dangerous for him to stay in. Let me expound on the danger. The "new carpet" odor is the 4-PC off-gassing, which can cause headaches, nausea and eye and respiratory tract irritation. It may also affect the central nervous system. The adhesive used to affix the carpet to the floor typically contains benzene and toluene, some of the most harmful VOCs. These compounds are toxic and known carcinogens. It was reckless of the hotel to sell a room in this condition. Furthermore, refusing to allow my husband to check out and have the room refunded was unconscionable. We stay at Holiday Inn Express often. We have stayed in this particular hotel before without issue. Sure, the room is probably safe to stay in today but the complete lack of concern towards the occupant's health was dangerous and irresponsible. This time is was volatile chemicals - who knows what hazard will be ignored tomorrow. The next time we come to Birmingham, even if this hotel has the last room available in the city, I will stay in my car rather than here. I will be contacting IHG about this incident.

My showers was a hybrid bath. The faucet kept running during my shower while water was also coming out of the shower head. The door to the space with the shower and toilet touches the sink and countertop. That design was interesting. The bed showed signs of age and LOOKS like it needs to be replaced. When I got into the bed, I could hear and feel each and every spring in the mattress. The seating area had a velour sofa. It was spacious; just dated. There is not enough space in the parking lot for everyone if the hotel is full. When I got back at night to sleep, I had to drive around the building three times to find a spot. When I finally did locate a spot it was in the opposite side of the building from where my room was located. The elevator is sloooooow and some of the common areas had trash in the floors. I didn't do research in this hotel prior to booking, so I take responsibility for that. I did go to breakfast the next morning and it was okay; waffles, cereal, pastries, eggs, and yogurt. They don't charge incidentals but do take your card information to keep in file during your stay.

I almost knocked them down to 3 stars because of the staff but the rest was too good to no give a 4. Let's start with the average at best - the staff. I encountered 3 different front desk folks during my stay. None of them really seemed to want to be there. Just not pleasant at all. When I checked in, the agent was just so impersonal. She never acknowledged my Diamond status, never thanked me for being a HHONORS member. I asked for cold waters as my Diamond "welcome" and she said they would be in the room. I got up to the room and no waters. Came back down and again asked for COLD waters. The only cold they had were the Smart Waters. She said she could not do that. Amazing, especially after I had to come all the way back down from 5 to collect them. The other 2 agents I encountered were no better - albeit much briefer interactions. The great - Lobby was very clean and up to date. The room was the hit. Dark and quiet for sleep. All mechanical worked well except the bathroom sink stopper but that was not a huge deal. The bed was extremely comfortable The real hit - the technology in the room. I am amazed at how many hotel rooms today have poor technology - no USB's, no microwave, non-working lights, and terrible TV's. Not this place. Plenty of USB's, great lighting, all receptacles worked and the TV... wow, the TV!! Excellent. Even had free Showtime on Demand. I am currently re-watching Dexter from start to finish so this was a HOMERUN. If the management can get employee morale up, this place is a real 5 star place!

The stay was less than desirable. The hotel has no complementary food nor snacks. Nor was there breakfast available onsite. Early that morning long before checkout hour, as I was dressing for the day, I heard rooms down the hall being knocked on. More of banged on. Then the knocking became closer up the hall to my room. It was clear someone going room to room knocking had and loud on the doors saying " Housekeeping" in a loud screeching voice. I really thought l was hearing a clip from an "old time" movie, definitely not a luxury brand hotel!!!! The knocking shouting "housekeeping" finally made it to my door. I immediately responded "The guest is still in here!!!" I was truly appalled! I'm a Hilton Honors gold member (AmEx Platinum) with a late check out option. It wasn't even 10 AM CDT. That approach was far reached from being professional yet, alone not business professional either. When I left that housekeeper was near my door and immediately asked "are you checking out now?" My loyalty toward Hilton was tarnished with that stay!
