This is a pretty decent hotel! I had no problems at all! The food is on the expensive side ($2.50 for a candy bar) but there are plenty of places/gas stations around to fulfill your desires! If you can catch a deal on the room, you'll get your money's worth! The standard room was clean and spacious! Living space and bathroom areas were set nicely! The bed felt so good, it didn't want to let me go, so I stayed in all weekend for the most part. The only thing I didn't really like was the pillows, they were TOO soft for me. If you download the app, you can go keyless and just use your phone to get in and out! That was pretty cool. Downstairs there are pool tables, lounge (in/out side), pool, a bar and a few more things! They offer you free points or a few dollars off at the bar if you skip out on house keeping but they didn't grant me my points but I'm ok with it!!!! We used SPG points to stay here as we had something to do in the area. Upon checking in, the two working behind the desk, checking guests in were very friendly and helpful. We got checked in very quickly. The lobby area was really eclectic and "funky" looking - we liked it! A bar and pool table were in the lobby, something we didn't expect from a smaller hotel like this. They also make warm food there too, which was nice. The décor throughout was nice and ultra-modern. The room was clean and just OK. Beds weren't too comfy, pillows were foam and too hard and we could hear too much in the hallway, like a fight in the middle of the night which woke us up. So, we did get a very poor night's sleep, which is why we wanted to give a higher rating, but couldn't. Check-out was quick, easy and fast and the staff was pleasant. We did decide to hang out in the lobby during the evening, play pool and enjoy some wine and that was very nice. We were surprised to see many others doing the same thing in fact. Overall, we'll most definitely return to an Aloft when the option comes up again, based on where we need to go, etc. read more

Booking.com was totally an obstacle when the calendar loaded with a date in the future when I needed a room for today. After an hour trying and working with Booking.com the young lady at Aloft saw what I was going thru and adjusted the date for my stay so she could take care of me. I've stayed in plenty of hotels, good and bad. Aloft at first look appears awesome, chic, modern, and all that good happy stuff. Until you stay there. The amenities in the room are lacking. Let's start off around the room: TV loses signal constantly. When the channels do come in, they are usually fuzzy and the sound is off. Storage is lacking. There are no drawers to hold your clothes, and you are required to stack them on awkward shelves. There are very limited areas to hang your clothes. The wireless internet is not that reliable either. At random moments the internet connection would drop and then I would have to agree to the internet terms, losing any progress on homework or while watching a movie. It wasn't all negatives. As I said, the amenities were kind of cool to be around with the modern look, but that modern look created a lack of creature comforts (which you are usually paying for). Then there's the elevator. There probably has never been a more noisy or annoying elevator ever created. My room was across the hall from the elevator and the noise resonated through the walls constantly... all night... at all hours... and on... and on. I had originally asked to change my room, but was told that wouldn't be possible. read more

This is a Review for WXYZ Lounge in the Lobby. This is one swanky lookin joint! You really don't feel like you are in a hotel. It's got cushy couches, eccentric pillows, a hip bar, really nice! It's got a fireplace and nice tables to crowd around, great service. They also have a nice outdoor lounge for nice days. I got the Hangover - Sweet Tea Vodka and Lemonade. I've stayed here quite a bit in the last few years visiting friends and family in the area. It's in a good spot (close to restaurants, shopping and the beach) and it always has reasonable rates (even during the holidays). Like someone mentioned below, I too have noticed the inconsistent cleaning "service" but the staff has always been helpful and friendly. I've never hung out at the bar but it always seems lively. If you do stay here, and are looking for some place to have breakfast/brunch, try the Broken Egg Bistro. It's packed on the weekends but the food is great! read more

PLEASE ADD SOUNDPROOFING TO YOUR ROOMS! The problem is that I feel that my room is in the lounge downstairs with how loud the music is. I've never stayed in an SPG Hotel that was this bad. When the cleaning staff are making their rounds, their conversations are to stand in the hallway and yell. Ridiculous. Also, the shower door doesn't close the whole way and water gets everywhere. Nothing like leaving for the day and coming back to standing water on the bathroom tile. My overall experience has been beyond disappointing. Thank God I check out tomorrow. read more

Loved this place. The rooms are unique for certain. While traveling between the Eastern Shore and Chesapeake for business I stayed for two nights here. A shower stall (not a tub/shower) with HOT water and GOOD water pressure. One of the better bathroom experiences I've had. Really well done. The room is spacious and yet not large. The bed was very comfortable. The lighting was excellent and for sleeping was very dark. More only complaint is the TV selections were horrible (analog over the air stations - no HD). But I really didn't watch TV. I played billiards in the hotel. Seriously - a cool pool table. The whole ambiance of the hotel is relaxed, laid back and comfortable yet professionally maintained. A great place and the rate we received was very very good! Will definitely stay again. read more

Stay Away! Check in: couldn't hear staff over loud DJ 1st room 10:00 PM and the music from the courtyard was unbearably loud. Called front desk, they couldn't hear us on the phone (too loud for them to hear customers)...went to the desk and they said the DJ was playing 'till midnight. Switched to: 2nd room: 10:30 PM no AC. Pros: Hotel is pretty fancy compared to others in this area and the price is good. At least for me it was. The beds were comfy, rooms were very nice( but small), the gym was adequate, small indoor pool, decent little bar/ hangout area downstairs. The area it's in has a Mall , movie theater, restaurants, ext .. Cons: no jacuzzi. I think that is kind of silly having an indoor pool and no jacuzzi. No free breakfast, although there is apparently a breakfast you can pay for in the morning. Very happy with the hotel. Got it for a great price and the rooms were small but super nice. read more

As a graduation present I asked my boyfriend to go to Virginia Beach for the Dave Matthews concert. He booked this hotel on Priceline and got a great deal. He was a little worried, knowing I'm a hotel snob, but I was quite impressed. This hotel was really cool! It had modern decor, including the glass enclosed shower, with a shadow wall into the bedroom, and a mirrored door to the bathroom. The morning staff was young and a little too perky for me, but they were all extremely helpful. Not being a coffee drinker, my boyfriend tried out the machine in our room and said it was decent coffee. Housekeeping was nice enough to give him plenty to make every day. The hotel was also really close to malls, movies, tons of restaurants, and anything else you could need. What keeps it from being five stars in my book? There was a very drunk girl banging on our door at 1am one night, insisting it was her room and trying to get in. She then proceeded to fight loudly with her boyfriend in the hallway. When we complained to staff in the morning, she was quite confused and thought we were complaining about ourselves. The second thing, which was pretty big for us, they didn't use a fitted sheet on the bed. Now I know most hotels do this, but the sheet kept coming untucked and the weird poorly fitting mattress pad underneath kept shifting and bunching up. It was quite annoying. Plus there were two small pillows and some interesting round ones, which were not meant for sleeping on. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Norfolk/VA Beach area. read more

Would be hesitant to classify this as a hotel even...it's a hang out space with beds as extra. Incredibly loud nighttime atmosphere...musical performances, outside social areas, bar... "cool things" but I don't want them in my hotel. Only thing saving from a one star is the friendly staff. The centrally located patio area (corn hole included) makes for some exciting midnight raucous every hotel guest is subjected to. Coupled with the broken A/C others have mentioned, and you're sure to find this is not the place you're staying to get any sort of sleep. It's an attempt to modernize the hotel experience with cheap smoke and mirrors and a relatively high price tag but I'll take a quiet, climate controlled room any day. Easy fix seems to simply regulate patio access hours. Completely dumbfounded why this hasn't been instituted yet. read more

My cousin Kristy and I stay at the Aloft at least once sometimes twice a year to visit our family that lives in the area. I just can't say enough nice things about the staff there. We always are welcomed with open arms, first names and even hugs!!! The ladies (and even James) always remember us, ask us about our family, especially our Grams and make sure our stay is comfortable. This is the ONLY place we stay when we come to Virginia and it is truly our home away from home. The rooms are comfortable, the food is great, the drinks are strong, the outside area is wonderful and most of all the staff has come to be honorary family. I'm an SPG member and I make it a point to stay at their hotels. I stay at Aloft hotels quite often. It is not their high-end category hotel, so you don't get a luxurious room. You get an efficiently arranged space that is comfortable. Sheraton beds are the best. I am asleep within moments of hitting the pillows. Nice size flat screen TV, work space, free WiFi and wired internet access for your laptop, bottle of water, refrigerator, coffee maker with regular and decaf coffees and teas, and a safe for your valuables that you can program with your own code. How many places have you stayed with that provided your own in-room safe? I don't use hotel room coffee makers. Get a cup of coffee at the Refresh counter. I let them know that the coffee sucks in the room and that I want a real cup of coffee. They understand. I have never been charged for coffee. The only problem I had with this particular Aloft was that one of the windows was not fitted with a shade correctly. The shade didn't cover the window correctly and let in the outside light from the parking lot and the morning sun. I like it dark in the room until it is time to rise. Another problem that seems prevalent in all Aloft hotel rooms is the strip of plastic along the shower door that is supposed to create a seal to prevent water from escaping on to the floor outside the shower. The glue always fails to keep the strip in place and if you don't put it in place you will have a pool of water outside the shower door. All in all it was a good stay for the price and I would return. read more

This was the second Aloft we have stayed in and it was exactly like the other (in Atlanta). Very modern and chic with friendly staff and clean room. It's conveniently located near lots of restaurants, a mall, movie theater and a Target. I like that if you stay for more than one night and refuse the cleaning service they'll either give you a gift card ($5 I believe) to the XWYZ bar or 250 extra Starwood points. We only stayed one night so we did not take advantage, but it's a great idea. The room looked exactly like the pictures online. The lobby and outside seating were very clean and nice. Also in the lobby were iPads you could use to get online (not super fast but better than 3G) and print. We were able to order movie tickets online within a few minutes The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because we could not get on the free wifi. Once we accepted the terms and conditions the next page didn't load so we couldn't connect. Kind of a bummer but for one night it was fine. read more

We got a king bed for $43/night. There was also wifi in the rooms, free coffee and oatmeal at breakfast, and free bags of ice to fill our cooler. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Only negative thing was our first room smelled like cigarette smoke, even though the entire hotel is non-smoking. They moved us immediately, but the new room was not completely setup yet (no towels). Also, FYI, it's a 30 minute drive to VA beach. Overall, I would definitely recommend Aloft to friends and will look for them again when I travel. read more

Lets say 3.5... it was A-Ok and I would stay there again. If I had only stayed a night or two they may have had an even 4 or a 4.5 but I lived there for two weeks. Positives While on the edges of a industrial park area it is also at the edges of the Crossways mall area so lots of restaurants and such if thats what your looking for (and just past that is the Greenbrier mall). Right off the 64 by a couple blocks Fun modern decor. Fantastic self-serve food area by checkin with pre-made items (salads, breakfast sandwiches) and make your own waffles and cereal - so convenient as I was running out the door. Cool Bar area (I'm a sucker, the lights imbedded were really cool) that has a pool table and a nice separate sitting area - plus it serves ok food. Neat glass walk in shower - no bathtub but I rarely take baths and preferred having a really nice large shower (could fit two people). Handy soap and shampoo/conditioner dispensers in the shower, none of this having to grab the mini's repeatedly from the staff (two weeks there and I still had plenty of soap in the dispenser). Gym and pool onsite (warning pool is small and rather shallow LOL laps aren't really an option). Mini-fridge in the room. FREE WiFi - one of the major reasons I picked this place. Negatives Walls are just to thin: actually got to sleep in until 7:30 on a weekday but couldn't sleep any longer because of the banging doors for the rooms/doors around me (one being the stairwell, others being guest rooms and another being the cleaning crews storage room for the floor), just bang, bang, bang, bang on and on as the staff worked and then bang, bang, bang as two rooms let their kids run back and forth non-stop slamming doors. Hallway was a bit worn down, carpet was bunching up and it kinda smelled from the fact that they collect all the rooms trash in large bags they drag with them down the hall and since hallways aren't cooled the same as rooms and its humid means the smell STAYS around. All in all I would stay here again, a lot of things I noticed are things that would have been a lot less obvious to someone just staying a night or two. I could have stayed at a hotel much closer to my location but I was happy with this place and decided not to move, the 30min drive wasn't that bad each morning. read more

The service was poor. When we arrived at 5:00 p.m. our room was not ready. This hotel informed me that th3 check was at 3:00 p.m. We waited for over 1 hour for our room to be available. This means that from the time that customers checkout at 1200 until our room was available amounted to around 6 hours. This review is for the Chesapeake location. I do not recommend if you are used to the comforts of nicer hotels. No ice machines -you have to get a bag of ice from the lobby. No restaurant, no room service- you order at the bar from a very limited selection of burgers and bar food. One meal to choose from if you are vegetarian. The queen sized beds are tiny and if you are tall, your feet will hang over the end. No free continental breakfast... you have to pay and wait. All in all, uncomfortable and frustrating. read more

I got an $87 rate on Expedia last night for same-day booking. Hotel was clean and convenient to my meeting in Chesapeake-- not far from the loop that encircles the Hampton Roads area. It is on a street with about eight other like-priced hotels where all the chains are represented. My only complaint is that the gym did not have a bench press machine. It does have dumbbells, yoga mats and treadmills. read more

I traveled to Chesapeake for a week of onsite meetings with a new client. The Aloft is conveniently located close to the workplace. Staff is friendly and efficient, the place has a cool modern vibe and there is plenty of parking. The WXYZ lounge is very comfortable with great seating options (especially for groups), pool table, fireplace and friendly bartenders although a somewhat strange crowd on Wednesday nights. Check in was a breeze once it dawned on me the small circular counter next to the small snack area was actually the front desk. So why only three stars? The bed was basically a mattress on a shelf that juts out from the wall. It was too firm for me and I tossed and turned. Plus there are only three pillows, two on the bed and one stashed on a shelf - not enough for a king size bed! Thankfully I was so exhausted my second night there, I was able to sleep. The very small refrigerator hummed constantly. I heard water running all night off and on. I honestly thought one of my neighbors was constantly flushing their toilet until the next morning when I noticed it was the toilet in my room - why it had to run water every 20 minutes I don't know. I could have spoken to management and asked to be moved, but these were small inconveniences and I had already unpacked. Besides I don't think the bed in another room would have been any softer. There is free wi-fi, but it's slow and constantly disconnected during the night causing my Pandora to quit. The lighting in the room is quite dim. The elevators are very slow. I should also note the lounge closes promptly at 10 during the week. Our group was looking to unwind and chat a bit after a great dinner with the client at the beach. By the time we returned to Chesapeake, it was nearly closing time. If you prefer softer beds and are looking for a quiet place to stay, this is probably not your best choice. The hotel is located right next to the interstate. Although my room was further away from the interstate, there was still a good bit of road noise. Next time I visit, I would try another hotel as there are many to choose from in that locale. read more

Not a very nice experience here. It's the little things in hotels which make a difference. The lobby stinks of some sort of axe-like scent. This hotel has the slowest elevator I have ever ridden on, one which will also go whatever way it wants rather than where you want to go. There are also "hybrid only" parking spots rather than elite member spots. Way to make high end Marriott members feel rewarded for their loyalty. The shower door in the bathroom leaked all over the place. The "environmentally friendly" air conditioner in the room could not keep the temp where desired, meaning every watt-hour used was actually a waste rather than being eco friendly. Overall Aloft is a bad concept and the whole chain should be abolished. read more

My family had a great time at this hotel. Our room was clean. The pool was clean. Breakfast was much better than I expected. Every employee we encountered was so friendly and helpful. It's in a great location if you're traveling along the coast. We had a small hiccup with billing but the manager quickly resolved it with little effort on my part. I stayed here November 1st and 2nd of 2019. I encountered the most welcoming, kind spirited, professional young lady ever by the name of Jamecia. From the moment I walked in, I knew my stay would be great because of her welcoming demeanor and smile. While I'm sure she was trained in the ways of Aloft, Jamecia is a genuinely remarkable, poised and caring individual. I'm planning to come back in a few months and will be staying here again because of Jamecia :) I met Penny my 2nd day there, and she too was amazingly welcoming, kind and professional. Took a quick trip down to visit family in Norfolk, but all of the hotels were booked solid, so I selected nearby Chesapeake, a very short drive to my final destination the next morning. I arrived late at night to check in, but the process was very quick. There was plenty of parking in the well lit parking lot, so finding a space was easy. This hotel is located on a street filled with every hotel chain you can think of, which is a plus if you are looking to stay in the area and the Aloft is booked. But anyway, I took the elevator up to my room to get settled in and check out the room. The room was a very basic hotel room. I reserved a double for me and my girlfriend. The beds sit pretty low. The iron board in the room was not full sized, there wasn't a closet, it was more like a shelving unit with a curtain to conceal your clothes that you have to hang. There was an in-room safe and coffee maker. The shower and toilet area was very cramped and dark. The room itself was clean and there were plenty of fresh wash clothes and towels, and a hair dryer and basic toiletries, to include dispensers in the shower if needed. We decided to check out some of the other hotel amenities so we headed down to the lobby area. There was a security officer on duty in the lobby. There was 24 hour access to the gym, which was small, but gave the appearance of a larger area with the mirrors throughout. They gym was clean and orderly, with plenty of hand weights to work with. You will need your room key to access the gym and the adjacent pool area, which was nice and clean, plenty of towels available, and a cute cabana area. The lobby area had a pool table and plenty of lounge seating, music and a television for guests to chill and relax. There was also an outdoor lounge area in the center of the hotel which was nice. Near the check-in desk there was a snack/food area where guests can get free ice for their room, complimentary tea or coffee, and purchase snacks, drinks, sandwiches and fruit. The items for purchase were definitely over-priced so you would do better stopping at the store and picking up any snack items that you may need. Check out the next morning was very fast and simple. It was an average stay at a hotel, nothing grand. I would probably try one of the other hotels in the area if I come back to the area though. read more

If you like dark, this hotel is not for you, the blinds don't really block all the light in the morning. The elevators here are really slow. This was an oasis in a desert! After staying at a Fairfield Inn/Marriot the night before for a lot more money, this seemed like a bargain with all of the amenities. I like having a safe in the room so I don't have to worry about my laptop, I like the quiet air system that doesn't go on and off like a 747 taking off during the night. So, yes, it was clean, the staff friendly, conveniently located -- all of that basic stuff. Oh, and the breakfast is not free, but yesterday the "free" breakfast was weak coffee and scrambled eggs that were like ball bearings, they were so old and dry. I'd rather pay. Nice Pool, great workout room. Nice bar. We didn't want to leave. read more

Recently made a reservation for four nights to this "pet friendly" hotel. Carefully went over the reservation directly with Aloft's 800# reservation line, emphasizing that we would be leaving our 20 lb. pug in a crate in our room for 4-5 hours a day. Showed up to check in and was given the "pet policy" to sign. Halfway down the page it stated that "dog will always be attended in the hotel room." I was outraged: on what planet is this a "pet friendly" policy? I didn't make a four night reservation in order to spend it in the room with my dog. Left for the adjacent Marriott Residence Inn which had a true "pet policy". The check in person at the Aloft was totally uninterested in my reaction. He had to have had it many times before. What was especially outrageous was that their own reservations line people were totally clueless about their own hotel policy when being specifically asked. Too bad because my 20-something daughter, traveling with me, thought the hotel was modern and fun. read more
