This is the best shave ice on the island people. I am a loyal customer and fan of their shave ice with ice cream and sno-cap topping. They have so many delicious flavors to choose from and they are all so yummy. The prices and size options are great. I usually order a kid size for myself and it fills me right up. It's $2.50 without ice cream- but get the ice cream!! It changes everything and it's Dave's Hawaiian ice cream so it's yummy! The store is packed full of knickknacks and local commodities. You can get local lotions and soaps, local peanut butter and treats, tourist novelties, etc. I enjoy poking around and shopping there. The employees are usually very friendly. Once or twice I've been treated like a random haole- not really badly, just like a nuisance (just saying) but 9 times out of 10, the employees went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. I recommend the shave ice here over Matsumoto's, or any other place I have been. I haven't tried the shave ice out in Waialua at the sugar mill yet but I'm confident Aloha General Store will still be the best. read more

This is HANDS-DOWN the best shave ice on island, and believe me, I've tried plenty of them. Forgo Matsumotos down the street with their packed ice, this ice is so soft it melts in your mouth. There is plenty of parking, although during peak times you might find yourself eating shave ice standing up (Walk around the shopping center, it's nice and shady!) The people working that are super friendly. They have the hawaiian names for the shave ice flavor combinations and then below it explains what the flavors are in plain English. I asked them once why they have Hawaiian names and they said it was to help Tourists practice their Hawaiian. ;) Try the ice cream and sno cap (condensed milk) on top AT LEAST ONCE. It's truly an indulgence but totally worth it. Also, I have a toddler. Be prepared that they will try to eat your whole shave ice if you are not careful. I would suggest ordering an additional one if you have a couple of kiddos. Bring cash, or they have an ATM in the store. I drive up from Kapolei (a 45 minute drive) every few weeks with some friends just for my shave ice fix. :) read more

We had a shaved ice at the store on a nice sunny day after the beach. It was voted the best in the area. They make their own ice and keep it at a certain temperature which I guess helps when they shave it. It does not melt as fast like a snowball does that we have where we live. Usually when you have finished the snowball it is all flavor and no ice. This was in a little plastic cone and I had three flavors on it. It was very colorful and delicous. The next day was a little rainy and I went back and had a Coconut Macademia Ice cream cone. It was delicous. They said it is homemade ice cream on the island. The coconut in the ice cream is what made it so good. Both my trips to this little store were great. The service is a little slow but it takes time to make the shaved ice. This is the real deal of all shaved ice specials! There was a line, but went by pretty quickly. Wanted to try their shaved ice since they also serve Daves famous hawaiian ice cream. Ordered " Da works" flavors chosen for my shaved ice were mango/ guava/ green melon. Included 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream and topped off with sweet conndensed milk for $4! Totally got a brain freeze for eating this treat so quickly but oh so worth it! I am craving one right now, must try. read more

This is the best shave ice I've had so far. Granted, I haven't been to a lot of places, but I don't want to after going here! The shave ice is so fluffy and not too syrupy, and I looove their Pineapple Bowl. Vanilla or pineapple ice cream in the middle (locally made, I believe), with pineapple shave ice, sweet cream, whipped cream, crushed pineapple, and a cherry on top. I go back here weekend after weekend for this bowl. If I'm in the mood for something different I might get a regular shave ice or Da Works or something. The shave ice portion of the store is cash only, though, but they have an ATM right there. I really cannot get enough of this place. read more

It's true, this IS the best Shave Ice in Haleiwa! We are first time vacationers to Hawaii and decided to challenge this statement made by a resident and compared it to another local establishment that has customers waiting a 1/2 hour in line. Surely so many people couldn't be wrong and so willing to stand in a long line in the heat if it wasn't the best Shave Ice, we thought. Yes, they are missing the mark because Aloha General Store does indeed have the best Shave Ice and consider the creation of this special treat to be an art form. Their ice is very fine versus being coarse (like a Sno-Cone) and the choice of toppings are very tasty (versus no taste detectable in the toppings whatsoever). If you are in the area, go ahead and take the challenge too or save yourself a long wait in line and just go enjoy the best Shave Ice at Aloha General Store. It is helpful to know that they only accept cash. This store is, of course, also a general store where many different types of items can be found; from the needed items to the tourist-type items. read more

Vanilla Ice Cream covered with Pinapple flavored shaved ice with Splash ( Sweetened Condensed milk) all on top of that. Ohhh booy. :) Its orgasmic i tell you! I'm glad we went to Matsumoto's, as it's a local institution and we wanted to see what it's all about. They let me browse for as long as I need to and even offer to hold my "finds" behind the counter when my shopping basket gets full. Their prices are reasonable, and their selection vast!
