I'm sure I'll be back again for most of my golf needs.

I didn't see anything I liked and he suggested I take a look at the fukubukuro shopping bags that was on sale for $49, regular $125. We walked over there and I told him I already purchased one during the holidays and didn't want to take the chance of purchasing a bag with the same three shirts I already have. I asked if I could open one bag and if the shirts inside were different I would purchase it. Garett said he would call the store manager, to see if that was possible. She was very hesitant and later told Garret she won't approve it. He was willing to call Mike, owner of the store and I told him that's not necessary. I asked Garett if he was on commission and he said yes. I've been a retail manager for many years and this is the type of salespeople I always looked for: Garret wasn't just a salesclerk but one that worked hard at making a sale without being pushy, like a car salesman. If I was still a store manager I would steal Garret away in a heartbeat. He knows sitting around doing nothing won't make you money. If you want to make more than just minimum wage you need to get out there on the sales floor and do what it takes to increase your commission.

I ended up purchasing a set of golf clubs anyway and have been pretty happy with them but I wanted to get a professional's opinion on my shafts, gapping, and lofts. So, I scheduled a club fitting at GolfTec by Ala Moana and was assigned to Justin. Justin was super helpful and didn't make me feel like an idiot. He spoke plainly and at a level I could understand... And he genuinely seemed to love what he did as an instructor and club fitter. He had me hit a couple of 7 irons and looked at what was already in my bag. He said he thought what I had was good for where I'm at but built me an updated version of my 7 iron with a different shaft just to check it out. He must've had it ready because he came back into the room in less than five minutes. He talked me through a couple of things and then showed me some video of myself swinging next to a prerecorded pro. He gave me two tips and said he wouldn't charge me for the visit. I was super grateful. After leaving, I took his tips straight to Ala Wai Driving Range and immediately hit the ball better. It has an upscale feel without feeling stuffy. The atmosphere is relaxed, everything is extremely clean and well maintained, and there's so much more to do than I expected -- golf, karaoke, electronic darts, a crane game, food and drinks. The private golf rooms are huge and set up for different levels and types of golfers, and they also have karaoke in the rooms where you can simply pay per song. You could easily come here with golfers and non-golfers and everyone would have something to do. The food and happy hour are fantastic. I had the pork nachos, Maui onion salad and a dirty vodka martini, and my entire bill was under $40 during happy hour. For Honolulu, especially with this atmosphere and level of service, that is an incredible value. And the food was genuinely delicious. What impressed me most, though, was the staff. Koi was an absolute sweetheart. She paid attention to the little things and showed a level of care that you don't encounter everywhere. I was recording some content for social media, and everyone was incredibly accommodating. At one point I was getting warm in the corner where I was sitting, and Koi immediately offered to move me to the other side of the restaurant so I would be more comfortable. She was constantly attentive without hovering, and you could tell that she genuinely cared about my experience. Kino, the bartender, was also wonderful -- very professional, knowledgeable and accommodating. He took the time to show me around, explain the different golf rooms and answer my questions rather than just pointing me in a direction. That kind of service makes a huge difference. Between the cleanliness, food, prices, golf rooms, karaoke, electronic darts, location, games and especially the service, Aya has created a really unique experience. Come for happy hour even if you don't golf. I absolutely plan on coming back. Koi and Kino made an already great place even better.
