The sales clerk would not give my a merchandise credit even it was clearly a SOHA Living item marked $35.80 with NO red line! She said since I did not have a gift receipt or know my daughters girlfriends name so they could look it up, there was Nothing she could do!!! Really? I asked for the supervisor/manager! That's when Rita came to the counter, again asking me all those same questions that I didn't know! Why should it matter?? I have your merchandise, not marked down!! Plus, I showed her a 1/2 page advertisement that was in the newspaper stating "After Christmas SALE up to 70% off". I had come in on 12/26 and there were only signs of 50% off! When I asked, what was 70% off, the girl at counter said it was online! But she couldn't find anything online that was 70% off! So very misleading! FALSE ADVERTISING!! So when Rita said she had to call her manager, I told her to ask about the ad! Well, Rita returns and finally gives me a gift card for $35.80. No tax? I'm sure all my credits have included the tax!! Also, she didn't talk to anyone and just decided to do " the right thing" But claimed she did not give me a hard time! I really like this store and appreciate 2 sisters who went to Punahou started this business and SoHa Keiki but will have to think twice on patronizing them because of the bad customer service! I called her back as soon as I psyched myself up. Mom had a nervous laugh in her voice, so I braced myself even more... She explained that she and her classmates wanted to do something for the 88 graduates of their high school, Sacred Hearts Academy. They didn't want to give a perishable flower lei, so they thought that a yarn lei would be appropriate. What does that have to do with me? I attended Maryknoll School. Hah! Mom knows that I know how to make a yarn lei - and quite efficiently. I had made 100 lei for my nephew's graduation, so, what's 88 more? Mom also knows that I know where to get supplies at a reasonable price. She suggested that I call Max Imports and see if they're open. It's not easy saying "no" to mom. Thinking about all the sacrifices she made for me over the decades... well... you know... So, of course, mom was right. Max Imports was open. The phone was answered right away and the nice lady on the phone helped me so much. I told her that I needed to make 88 lei. She asked what school and figured out the colors: Yellow grosgrain ribbon - 3 spools White long eyelash yarn - 9 packages Yellow short eyelash yarn - 9 packages Total = $485.34, including tax I told the kind lady that I could be there in about an hour after getting cash from the bank - no problem. That was enough time for her to pull the items from the shelves. When I got to Max Imports in Kalihi, there was metered street parking and a free parking lot next to the warehouse. I went up to the table like she described and rang the "Apple Bell". She appeared quickly and I gave her the cash. She went back inside to get a receipt for me. I found out that her name was Alice. I had seen her before at the Douglas Trade Shows at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center. I had bought yarn and ribbon from them several times in the past. I had even come to this shop to get supplies. Alice was so knowledgeable and pleasant. She even helped me carry a box to my car! As we walked, I thanked her because I know that the prices at Walmart and Longs are higher. She added that those retailers wouldn't have the quantity I needed. She's right! So - if you need to make many lei, come to Max Imports for the best prices and service! Good luck!

We were drawn in by all of the colors, varieties of merchandise, and quality of goods. SoHa Living has several locations. This store is known for home decor, home furnishings, and souvenirs. Besides tote bags, we looked at earrings, hats, magnets, zippered pouches, pillows, shell necklaces, note cards, dishes, and more! Recently, Donna O. wrote a review and reminded me that I wanted to take a look... Yes...Donna was the motivator! Itadakimasu (in Japanese language) means "Let's eat" or "I gratefully receive this food". That's where the ceramic bowls and tea cups come in. There's a wide variety of sizes, styles, and patterns at this cozy shop. There's also women's jackets, baby clothing, and t-shirts. The rechargeable, portable fans, key covers, lucky red envelopes, figurines, tote bags, and luggage tags caught my eye. Everything was so cute! I had to leave quickly before I bought everything! You've passed the shop if you are at the gas station or the McDonald's on the right. If you're into Pokemon, Tokoro, Hello Kitty, Rilakkuma. and all those cute Japanese characters this store is for you. They have a lot Japanese dish-ware, houseware, pretty foldable reusable bags, plushy, mugs, kitchen ware, products made in Japan or from Japan. After finding out their store location, it took several attempts to finally go on the day they are open. One time they were on a buying trip & another time I went on a closed day Monday! Finally I got it right and made a quick stop to see what else they may have. I found a cute light weight canvas Rilakkuma tote bag with shoulder strap which I'm still debating if I should give it as a gift or keep it myself. Ha ha. They seem to have new and unique products at every trade show. Sticking with the theme the best in my opinion with adorable wooden boxes in the shapes of the kagami mochi stacks, wooden zodiac animal charms and what really really caught my eye was their fortune cookie coin purse which was so thoughtfully crafted to include a fortune in each one is so cool. The unique items they have is what I love and it was nice to meet the crafters behind it along with seeing all the items they carry on hand versus online is more my thing but now know some of their items since I've seen them will give their site a visit for more unique finds and to support this cute local small biz.
