First time here. My family and I decided to visit as it was a warm day in San Diego and we missed Hawaiian shave ice. This place looked pretty similar to Ululani's shave ice in Maui. I was super excited for the macadamian nut ice cream too! For some reason, I thought they were operating out of a food truck, but they actually have a store. Street parking was pretty full as it was the weekend on Carlsbad Village Dr, but there are a couple larger lots across from the store or street parking next to a small church. The walk isn't too bad either, perhaps a 3-5min walk or so. There were some outdoor seating and 1 indoor counter seating by the front entrance. It can get pretty crowded though, especially around noon. We beat the lunch rush, so that was very fortunate. You can choose up to 3 syrups, and they have a good variety. I chose pineapple, guava, and passion fruit with macadamian nut ice cream for the base. It actually makes quite a difference if you get the ice cream base. They also have coconut and vanilla. The wait time was pretty standard. I ordered the small size, but it was a pretty large portion. I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed with the shave ice. I expected too much though. Ululani's shave ice in Maui has very smooth shave ice, that it literally just melts in your mouth, not your typical coarse shave ice. The shave ice here was definitely similar to other shave ice places, as the ice was coarse; not bad though. The syrups were good too. The macadamian nut ice cream was good but it consisted of large mac nut chunks, which was a bit too much for me. I prefer the smaller bite sizes with the creamier macadamian ice cream taste, similar to Ululani's. I think I was a bit overambitious to taste Ululani's shaved ice here in CA. BUT, overall, it was great! My taste buds and stomach were both pretty satisfied. read more

Delicious shave (not "shaved" ice) can be found here. The is itself is extremely soft and fluffy. They offer many flavors. I'm always partial to piña colada. The store was clean and they have a decent-sized front patio with tables and counter seating. Good stuff! read more

Disappointed ! I gave this place 2 stars for the store front look. Other wise it would be a 1 star for me. Not trying to be harsh but.... Driving up the coast I wanted to try some place new. yelped and came across Aloha Ice Co. It had high stars so we drove further than usual. Being from islands...just super disappointed with the quality of shave ice and ice cream that is supposed to represent Aloha. Macadamia nut ice cream is not supposed to be a scoop of vanilla and shaken with Mac nut after it's scooped. Presentation and taste was blah Shave Ice: was soup within 3 mins I asked the worker if this was their norm and he said yes. See pics Shave ice needs to be compacted to withstand the syrups and to avoid melting. Please don't call this place Ice Co. when they are not knowledgeable on the process of a proper shaved ice. Tried this place out for the first time. Prices were reasonable and the shaved ice was delicious. We tried the root beer shaved ice and it had condensed milk on top. I also got an iced coffee called the caramel dream which was perfectly made. Next time we will have to try their spam musubi and poke bowls! The girl at the register was very nice and patient with us since we took a minute to review the menu and decide on what to order. There wasn't a lot of indoor seating so we had to sit outside to enjoy our shaved ice. read more

I went to the new permanent location in the village and I'm impressed! I tried the you had me at aloha and overall I liked it. The macadamia nut ice cream is so good! My only complaint is that you really have to dig down to get to the ice cream. It would be better if it was Ice Ice cream Ice That way the ratio would be better that way. My other complaint is the patio is set up kind of awkwardly. You have to kind of scoot in and around tables/chairs to get in and out. But I'll be back to try more flavors for sure! read more

You can't compare to Hawaii but it's nice that this is down the road and I think the flavors are good enough to hold someone over til they visit the islands again! They also offer unflavored shave ice for your pup which is a plus. My only qualm is that they need to please change their cups and use the one with ridges- the amount of ice and syrup that falls off and makes a mess is just stressful. Pleaaaaaaase consider this! You'll be helping parents out and saving the trees/napkins. read more

Shaved ice is good. Place very well decorated. Worker is awesome. My one complaint is on the manager or whomever does their employees schedule. Visiting Carlsbad for new years. I visited this establishment a day or two before new years and there was only one worker during peak hours. There were at least 15 customers in the establishment vs. One worker. Will we have been twice now within a week. My 7 year is in love. They have a little bit of seating outside. Inside they shirts, hats, and coffee for sale besides shaved ice, ice cream, poke, and coffee. They have a wide selection of flavors for their shaved ice offering. My daughter got the blue razz, grape, and cotton candy. I tried the passion fruit, lemon, and cherry. They have frozen blocks of ice they shave on a machine so the ice is fluffy and soft. I use this place as incentive to get my kids to clean the house. Any time I need help picking up the kitchen, their rooms, etc... I say, "if you help clean, I'll take you to Aloha..." It works every time. We've had a bunch of different versions of their treats and they're all as delicious as the next one. Also, their spoons change colors...so that's cool. Walked by here on our way to get some coffee, saw that they had "aloha" in the name and coffee displayed on the storefront, so I figured they'd have some Kona coffee on hand. Sure did! They had a limited display of baked goods -- I chose the almond crème cake to pair with my 100% Kona coffee. Service was a bit on the slow side, but that's perfectly aligned with the aloha spirit. I also overheard that they had just opened 4 days ago, so there's understandably a learning curve as well (the previous reviews are for their food truck; this is their new brick and mortar location at the corner of Carlsbad Village and State). They also serve tea, ice cream, and the flagship Hawaiian ice. Coffee beans and merchandise available for purchase as well. I'm so glad that I found this little shop. We ordered two bagels with cream cheese. They were very generous with the cream cheese. I had an açaí bowl without granola. They have coconut whip cream which I was hesitant about, but they said I needed the whip. Get the coconut whip. They've got a few varieties of coffee and sell various breakfast and lunch items in addition to their Hawaiian Ices. Definitely, a nice place to stop on your beach day. read more

People, please be more understanding! It's not like you're leg is broken and you're waiting to see a doctor. You're getting ice cream with your family for goodness sake. You can wait. Right now small businesses like this one are struggling because of the pandemic. We need to continue supporting them, and we need to be a bit more patient knowing that everywhere there's a shortage of workers. So my experience? I went in for a bag of coffee, and the young lady behind the counter didn't seem familiar with the coffee. Do I care? No. It's just coffee; it's not like it's life-saving medication. When I bought the bag I wanted, she said I'd have to wait 10 minutes. No big deal. If I was in a rush, I know better than to stop to get a bag of coffee. She handed me the bag, but it was the wrong one. She looked overworked and overwhelmed. And then other people waiting got impatient and made some rude comments, and I really wanted to give them a piece of my mind. I did eventually get the right bag, and I only waited maybe 6 minutes over all. AND she gave me a free sample of the coffee that I bought just to make sure I liked it. She was friendly, apologetic, and I respect the hell out of her for having to deal with people who never learned patience and empathy. Also, this coffee is AMAZING! Get the coffee- you won't regret it! I don't normally drink coffee without creamer, but this coffee I can easily do just that. You'll also be supporting an American-made product. Good shave ice but very very poor point of sale (cashier) problems. They have 2 registers but only 1 working. Line is always out the door. Need to fix this especially during summer. Lines will be way too long. Also, another improvement would be to go with the cups with a ridge. The shave ice falls off each time especially with kids. I would go with cheap white spoons and go with the cool plastic ridged cups like in Hawaii. read more

Bomb shaved ice.. I got the Guava and Li Hung Mui flavors!! Outstanding.. Blue Coconut is my alternate choice. It was huge when served, but 4-5 brain freezes later( have a bottle of water to drink ready for them) but we'll worth it.. There's probably 20 different flavors.. and 1000 combinations.. wish they put a scoop of soft serve at the bottom like they do in Kauai.. maybe they do, but it wasn't offered to me. It was decent. Maybe I've had too much shaved ice in Hawaii but the syrup tasted like sugar free fakeness and just lacked that authentic flavor. Also the cups. Please get the cups with the ridges! I spilt like half of my ice because it just falls off the cups with nothing to catch it. They do have a lot of flavors so that's nice. Customer service also was not amazing. No greeting when we walked in and the girl who took our order seemed annoyed. I get it was busy but overall it just lacked in areas. The closest thing you can get to Hawaiian shave ice here in San Diego! They have a variety of syrup flavors and ice creams you can choose from. The ice is finely shaved and melts in your mouth, just the perfect consistency- it's not thick, chunky, and real icy like some shave ice places. Look... first off, this review is for the Westfield Mission Valley Mall location, which does not appear in Yelp. I've been to this location two times now, and both times the business is staffed by one person who seemingly has not received enough training to be left alone. The menu items definitely seem like they would be amazing, if prepared and served correctly. There are items with similar names and the staff does not ask for clarification (staff should be more familiar with menu than customer). Also, since the person behind the counter is alone and undertrained, there is a significant wait between items. If you're ordering for more than one person, the first person will be done with theirs when the last person receives theirs. Secondly, the Ice Cruiser coffee drink is either not good or again, the staff left alone is not trained to make it (my wife insists it was good the first time we went there and made incorrectly this visit). For context, this drink is over $8 and the staff should not mess this up. As for ambiance, this location is a kiosk at Westfield Mission Valley Mall. There are a couple tables with chairs. read more
