How about a flavored "iceberg". And, guess what, there's ice cream inside!! Mmmm!

A fun casual place to drop in during warm summer days in Carlsbad Village. Easy access to sit and just watch while enjoying all the sweetness that you can get there. You just need to watch out for the bees who enjoy the sweets as much as you do! The staff is super friendly and sweet. Just like the products!

Aloha Ice is a fun little local spot for a refreshing sweet treat. The shaved ice is flavorful, refreshing, and perfect for a warm day in Carlsbad. The service was friendly and the casual atmosphere makes it an easy stop for a quick dessert. Definitely worth checking out when you're craving something cool and sweet!

A slice of tropical heaven in Carlsbad! I've been to my fair share of Hawaiian shaved ice spots on the mainland but nothing--and I mean nothing--comes close to the magic they serve up here. One word: DREAMSICLE. I don't know what kind of sorcery they're working with, but this flavor tastes like childhood joy and beachside sunsets blended into a cup. It's perfectly creamy, citrusy, nostalgic, and refreshing all at once. I am not in Carlsbad often, but I know that the next time I'm headed to San Diego I am going to stop by and try more of their creations. But what really makes Aloha Ice special isn't just the incredible flavors--it's the people. The staff here are absolute gems. I came with a group of 6, a few kids, and a few indecisive adults. The employees were so genuinely patient, kind, and enthusiastic through the whole thing. No eye rolls, no rush--just warm smiles and helpful suggestions. Everyone ended up ordering shaved ice that they loved! It's rare to find a place that nails both quality AND hospitality, but Aloha Ice does it effortlessly. Whether you're a local or just passing through Carlsbad, don't miss this spot. Pro tip: get the Dreamsicle. You can thank me later!

Who would have thought we would find super yummy shaved ice in Carlsbad?! As good as Hawaii! Not too sweet and some great flavors! Finely shaved ice and syrup that wasn't too sweet. The macadamia nut ice cream had lots of macadamias and they were nice and crunchy. The coconut whip was super good! They had color changing spoons too! So fun! Lots of great goodies to shop for too! Found some cool gifts and snacks. They even sell poke! Quaint little place with outdoor seating only . Liked the open windows. Service was great. Young man was patient and answered questions and gave suggestions.

Shave ice was good. Workers were rude and judgy. Acted as if I wasn't there. Not sure if it was because I am a person of color, but they were making conversation with customers that looked like them and giving a dismissive personality towards those that didn't. I would avoid coming here as a person of color.

Just like Hawaii!!! So good. I am upset we did try sooner. They also had spam masubi, which is a plus. Going to make this a regular spot we visit.

Aloha ice was very good! I love the icecream being included under the Italian ice, and was a nice sweet treat to have during our beach day. The employee working was very nice and accommodating.

The girls and I were in the area on a hot afternoon, so we were looking for something to cool us down. Aloha Ice has Hawaiian shaved ice, acai bowls, smoothies, ice cream and I'm sure other things as well. They have some small tables outside the shop for you to enjoy your treats. One thing they can improve on is their screens that displayed the menu, specifically the screen that was I interested in, kept losing connection. Also the tables could have been better maintained between customers. We all decided to get Hawaiian shaved ice which had a ice cream base topped with shaved ice. They have a lot of flavors to choose from. The girls all picked from their Aloha favorites that are their creations. I decided to make my own creation. I got the vanilla ice cream as a base because it was more complimentary to the strawberry and lychee flavor with sweet cream drizzle. Yummmmm! We were all loving our treats and had such a good time. My creation was about ~$6. Pretty standard in this economy. Definitely exactly what we needed for the afternoon, and I would come back when I am back in the area.

Stumbled upon this place for a post dinner dessert and it was pretty busy when we walked up. My boyfriend and I shared a small custom shaved iced, where we got 3 flavors and paid for an add on of the cream drizzle on top. There was a bit of a wait for the shaved ice but I know it takes some time to make each one. It was pretty good but nothing crazy. The flavors were not particularly strong, it wasn't easy to identify which was which but they were good and not overly sweet. They also forgot to put the cream drizzle on top so we had to go back and ask for it. Overall the shaved ice was good but not as smooth and fluffy as expected. Might come back if we're craving some shaved ice!

Family-Friendly Escape Near Legoland…read more While staying at the nearby Legoland Hotel, a few of us moms decided to sneak away from our husbands and kids for a quick break, and this place was a fantastic find! It features a variety of food stalls serving fresh, high-quality dishes, which was a very welcome break from the typical fried hotel food. With options ranging from pizza and fried chicken to a great selection of Asian cuisines like Thai and Chinese, it is an easy way to accommodate different tastes within a family or across multiple families. I especially loved the fresh, piping-hot dishes (we got the pad see ew) from the Thai food stall paired with a delicious cocktail from the central bar. Before heading back, we also grabbed some mini donuts to bring to the kids. The space is incredibly accommodating, with plenty of indoor seating options including bar tables, cozy booths, and standard tables. On top of that, they have several arcade games on-site, making this a highly viable and fun dining option for families with kids. Would recommend as a viable option if you're in the area.

Well, if you're hungry but can't exactly decide how to satisfy that hunger, just follow the windmill to the Windmill Food Hall. That's what we did and were soon face-to-face with fourteen different food vendors, ranging the ethnic gamut from Thai to Chinese to Sushi to Burgers to Lobster to Pizza to Mexican and pretty much anything your hungry little heart craves. Our party of three scattered into three directions and reunited at a table for our eclectic lunch. My wife went with meatballs from Cacio because Craft Pizza didn't sell slices, just a 12" pizza. My brother-in-law went with a Honey Walnut Shrimp plate from Secret Sauce Wok, and I went with sushi and miso soup from Rolled Up Sushi. I loved my lunch, starting with a nice flavorful Miso Soup ($5) that was served in a coffee cup! My eight Spicy Tuna Rolls ($14) were most definitely spicy. Now, since I love spicy food I was thrilled because 98% of the spicy tuna rolls I've had over the years are ho-hum on the old spiciness meter. Not these. The food hall was packed, and we saw many families having lunch there. Kids were all over, including some uniformed sports teams. The kids were also at the many video and arcade games on the premises, while bigger kids were entertaining themselves at Windmill's big bar. What a fun place for a fun food experience.

Upon entering, I immediately loved how homey the restaurant felt. The open windows made it light and bright inside, while still feeling warm, comfortable, and welcoming. We were greeted by a gentleman who was very kind and friendly from the start. We were hungry, so of course we ended up ordering quite a bit of food lol! We got the lumpia, fish ball appetizer, kamote fries, sizzling sisig, bistek Tagalog, vegetable coconut soup (ginataan), and of course we had to finish everything off with halo halo! As a Filipino, I was impressed with the food. I especially enjoyed the sizzling sisig, and the bistek Tagalog really reminded me of home. Everything else we tried was delicious as well, and I'm already looking forward to coming back because I definitely want to try the kare kare next time. Of course, we had to wash everything down with dessert, so we ordered the halo halo. Honestly, I've had better halo halo, but it was still refreshing and enjoyable. And really, what better way to end a yummy Filipino meal than with a classic Filipino dessert? The service was also excellent. The gentleman helping us was so kind and friendly, checked on us often, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Overall, I would definitely recommend Carin de Ria to anyone craving Filipino food in North County. Great food, a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and excellent service. I will definitely be back!

To my surprise Water Shack's burgers were delicious and satisfying that I find myself coming back here ever so often. Their burgers aren't the heavy, greasy/high fat patties you would get from other places. However, their 1/4 lb patties are their smallest patties and heft makes for that ideal bun to burger ratio. Did I need to order double patties on most of my burger orders? Probably not. Their patties are on the leaner side but they aren't dry; and the fixings from any burger you choose will satisfy that meaty burger fix you're looking for. The Chicken Patty Melt is also a very tasty item. Very cheesy, buttery and crispy toasted bread with chicken breast. Their fries and onion rings also come air-fried so this place focuses more on the healthier comfort food options that wont leave you feeling heavy and drowsy. This place is also doubled as a purified water dispensary and also serves baked goods and ice cream. Gabriel checked us in, seated us, took our order, served our food and waited on us for majority of our visit, I would give him 10 stars just on his impeccable service. The food though? The food was AMAZING!! Everything we ordered was the best we have ever had anywhere. The buns were very kawaii (and we ordered ever single one to try). The fillings were savory, but we also loved their seasonal panda bun with ube filling while the kids preferred the nutella bunny. Best chicken karaage we've had by far, the coating almost tasted like it was rolled in kinako powder. The ramen broth was "chef's kiss" with so much flavors, the crab rangoon were jumbo and the filling was delicious, but the chicken katsu was also the best we have had anywhere (including Hawaii). The breading was just top tier crunchy while the chicken was thick and juicy. There isn't one bad thing I could say about this place, from the service to the food, I would make the drive out here again. One of the ladies at the counter seemed like she didn't want us there or she was just done for the day. She definitely did not give friendly vibes at all. We had to ask for some at the counter, and even then, there were no apologies for forgetting or anything. Like we were really supposed to ask for it, but everyone else didn't. The lechon kawali was tough--it's supposed to be crunchy, but it was far from that. It was hard and dry more than anything. The pork sinigang was supposed to have pork belly as stated in their menu, but it did not seem like it was pork belly at all--more like remnants or trimmings from unwanted pork bits. Some pieces were chewy and didn't look very appetizing. Sinigang is also supposed to be sour from the tamarind, but the soup we got was extremely watered down that you only get the slightest hint of sourness from it. The lumpiang sariwa was okay--nothing to write home about. On top of all that, we came during a very hot day and were excited to have some halo-halo, only to find out that they have run out. In the span of time we were there eating, we have watched them tell maybe 4 or 5 groups of customers that they're all out of halo-halo. I get that their halo-halo is special and different than the usual ones you get elsewhere, but you'd think they'd be more prepared for this, seeing that this is not their first summer rodeo... I'm not sure if this is an every day thing for this place, but I'm really hoping it's not. I don't think we'll be coming back after the experience we just had.
